A Fresh Word for God's Women in This Hour

JAMES W. GOLL  CHARISMA NEWS
"When the leaders in Israel lead, when the people freely volunteer, bless the Lord!" (Judg. 5:2).
Yes, it is a rather intense story found right in the middle of the pages of Bible concerning Deborah the Deliverer (read Judg. 4-5). But as a male spiritual leader, I have something to say to you mighty women of God! We cannot afford for you to be fearful "little women" in your own eyes. It is time for you to arise! We need you!
Instead, you must arise like Deborah of old and pick up your warrior's mantle for such a time as this. Today, across the globe and right in our own back yards, there are enemies on the rampage tearing apart society at every corner. My late wife, Michal Ann Goll, and I founded the Women on the Frontlines conference movement. In her inaugural book, Women on the Frontlines – A Call to Courage, she issued a clarion call that still needs to be answered today.
We live in an age that is sorely lacking in heroes. Think about it. Who can we look at today and regard as a hero? Certainly there are some, but they sure are hard to find!

Isaiah the prophet said that when a people comes under judgment, God takes away wise leadership from the land—the hero, warrior, judge, prophet, elders and others (see Isaiah 3:1-4 NIV). During a time of restoration, the Lord restores the land. We are now entering a time of restoration, and the Lord is calling us to be heroes.
He is preparing us for a time soon to come when the world will cry out for leaders who are in touch with the heart and the mind of God. [Michal Ann Goll, Women on the Frontlines, (Shippensburg, PA: Destiny Image Publishers Inc., 1999) 145.]
It's time to arise and carry Deborah's heart and anointing! But to do so, you must hold close to your heart the teachings of Zechariah 7:9-10, which says, "Thus says the Lord of Hosts: Execute true justice, show mercy and compassion, every man to his brother. Do not oppress the widow, orphan, sojourner, or poor. And let none of you contemplate evil deeds in your hearts against his brother."
Who was Deborah anyway? She was a prophetess, a judge, a wife, a warrior and a worshipper of her God and ultimate King. Deborah brought healing, deliverance and restoration to her land. She changed the justice system and she brought trade and commerce back to her people. She and Barak joined together in the infamous battle against Sisera, and won!
It's time for men and women to join together and provide real leadership and justice like Deborah and Barak! As a male spiritual leader in the global prayer and prophetic movement, I say to you, "arise!" Come on now! We can do the same today! Change society. Shift the courts. Bring revival and restoration to the land. Cause, always remember, together, in Jesus, we make a great team!

When Jews Were Christians - David Lazarus Israel Today

When Jews Were Christians

Monday, February 11, 2019 |  David Lazarus  Israel Today
How did what clearly started out as a part of Judaism become what we know today as Christianity? When did Christianity as we now know it begin?
A leading scholar on Christianity in its earliest form, Paula Fredriksen, has written much about the Jewish context of Jesus’ original disciples and about early Christian attitudes toward the Jews. In her recent book, When Jews Were Christians (Yale Univ. Press, Oct. 2018), she presents a history and analysis of Christianity when it was still a part of Judaism.
Fredriksen emphasizes the Jewishness of that first generation of Jesus-followers. She reminds readers that Jerusalem was at the heart of their Messianic faith. The disciples of Jesus left Galilee to live in Jerusalem and wait for the risen Jesus to return. Fredriksen argues that the early Jewish believers expected, as the Hebrew scriptures teach, that salvation for the world would go forth from Jerusalem and out of Zion, God’s “holy mountain.”
She contends that the disciples had a positive attitude toward the Temple in Jerusalem and challenges the idea that it was Jesus’ disturbances in the Temple that led to his arrest. “Jesus did not so much condemn the Temple as he did prophecy a new one,” Fredriksen writes.
The disciples’ faith and hopes in Jesus as the promised Messiah were rooted in their unwavering commitment to the Jewish faith. Initially, what we now consider Christianity was really just a form of Judaism, and was not Gentile-inclusive until later.
Even Paul’s avid refusal to require circumcision of Gentiles under pressure from the Jerusalem-based Judaizers was based on Old Testament prophecies that in the last days the Gentile nations would come to the God of Israel (e.g., Zechariah 8:20-23).
How did a group Jewish disciples end up inaugurating a movement that would grow into the Gentile Church? The gathering of Gentiles into the early ecclesia was “unintended”, Fredriksen suggests. It simply came about as Paul and others spread the message to the Jewish people throughout the diaspora. In synagogues throughout Asia Minor at the time, there were Gentiles know as “God-fearers” who were attracted to the God of Israel and Jewish culture, such as Sabbath observance. The early Jesus-followers required these Gentiles to cease from worshipping their ancestral deities. So the Gentiles who accepted Jesus could no longer be considered pagan Gentiles, nor were they any longer God-fearers, nor proselytes to Judaism. Instead, they were understood to be the fulfillment of scripture and the “Coming up of all nations to the Mountain of the Lord.”
The central understanding of what became the Gentile “Christian” identity was the belief that the end of the age and the Kingdom of God were at hand. Here we have a theological position that embraces both the unity and distinctiveness of Jew and Gentile. “In their own eyes, the early disciples were history’s last generation," notes Fredriksen. "It is only in history’s eyes that they would become the first generation of the church.”
Prof. Paula Fredriksen is currently serving as Distinguished Visiting Professor of Comparative Religion at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem.

Love For His People Annual Board Meeting Feb.09, 2019

Feb. 10, 2019

Love For His People had our annual board meeting on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019, in the home of founders Steve and Laurie Martin in the Charlotte, NC area. Fifteen of the 17 board members, from as far away as Charleston, SC.  were able to attend.

The makeup of the board's personnel includes members of seven different North and South Carolina area churches, Jews and Gentiles, young and "old", male and female, married and single. Several who have been on the board for 5 of the first 8 years of the ministry's existence were given a special gift as a blessing with thanks - a very nice coffee mug with the Star of David in "gold" on the front. (Another way to bless Israel - buy gifts from Holy Land Gifts out of Tel Aviv and support Israeli businesses through Lev Olam, delivered straight to your door!)

We had a good time of worship, blessing the Lord Jesus (Yeshua HaMashiach), shared an "Israeli style" meal together, and spoke of the Lord's work being done through Love For His People, as we primarily support our Messianic Jewish friends, humanitarian and news organizations in the land of Israel. The meeting lasted three hours.

Here is the report I shared with the director members (also public knowledge) in our gathering: Love For His People Annual Ministry and Financial Report.

We give thanks that the Lord has made these connections with our friends, both here and there, and how He is strengthening and increasing our love for His people in the Land.

Ahava and shalom,

Steve and Laurie Martin
Founders
Love For His People

P.S. And two of the board couples had their "lot" drawn and received beautiful blankets purchased from our wholesaler who lives in Tel Aviv, Israel, as gifts. It amazes me how the Lord blessed them. Each had spoken earlier of how they would use the blanket if so blessed - one in their new home and the other on how the verse on one blanket was their favorite. And they each got the one they desired!)
