4 Reasons You Should Watch 'The Case for Christ' Movie

August 15 marked the DVD release of The Case for Christ, a faith film that released in over 1,100 theaters nationwide on April 7.

If you haven't already heard of the book The Case for Christ, it tells the story of Lee Strobel, who was an award-winning, legal editor at the Chicago Tribune in the 1980's. Lee was an avowed atheist, but one day his wife came home to tell him she had decided to believe in Jesus. This was difficult news for him, and set him on a journey to investigate the claims of Christianity in order to prove it false, and save his wife from what he considered to be a cult.

After nearly two years of meeting with experts, and weighing the evidence, Lee concluded, as an atheist, that there was an avalanche of evidence pointing to the truth of Jesus Christ, and Lee chose to put his faith in Christ.

In 1998, he shared the story of his journey in the book The Case for Christ, which has gone on along with follow up books, to be read by more than 14 million people worldwide.

He has spoken at several of our conferences and has become a friend over the past few years. We've been thrilled to partner as a ministry on the impact of this Pure Flix film by sharing it with as many people as we can.

It is my great hope that you will see the film, and watch it with your friends and family. Consider a church viewing as well, and share your excitement about the film with everyone you know.

HERE ARE 4 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH THE CASE FOR CHRIST MOVIE:

1. LEE'S STORY IS ICONIC AND UNFORGETTABLE

There are just some stories in the Christian world that you can't get out of your mind. Lee's story is one of those.

Several years ago, we spent time with Elizabeth Sherrill, who was the ghost writer of The Cross and the Switchblade for David Wilkerson, My Hiding Place for Corrie Ten Boom, God's Smuggler for Brother Andrew, and others. It amazes me that she played such a role in telling stories that lived on in the Church.

Lee's story reminds me of these iconic and unforgettable stories—his story is such a God-story that needs to be told to more people.

2. LEE'S STORY HELPS US SEE THE LOGIC BEHIND OUR FAITH

Not many of us are as qualified as Lee to investigate the claims of Christianity with the keen mind of a journalist. Lee was trained by the best, and was an award winning journalist. He took these investigative skills and applied them to Christianity in a way few could do.

Lee believes Christianity is an investigable faith, in the way journalists investigate their stories and weigh the evidence.

He started out as a hardened atheist who thought faith was ridiculous and a crutch for the weak, and gradually realized "it would take more faith for him to maintain his atheism than to to put his truth in Christ."

The Case for Christ movie gives some of this rock-solid evidence in an entertaining story format.

3. LEE'S STORY GIVES US A LONG VIEW OF WHAT GOD CAN DO IN A PERSON'S LIFE

From spiritual skeptic, to dedicated believer, Lee's life shows us with crystal clarity that Jesus changes everything.

We all know that Christians are not perfect. Christians are nowhere near perfect, but yet Jesus changes everything. Jesus changes the trajectory of our lives.

And with Lee, we see such a dramatic difference that Christ can make. People in our culture need to see the impact that Christ can make on a person's life.

America Is Not Great Anymore Because She Is Not Good

French historian Alexis de Tocqueville traveled to America in 1831 and wrote a book called Democracy In America. In 1835, he said this: "America is great because America is good."

America was such a young nation and became great so quickly. How did it happen?

Tocqueville stated: "What made America great is what was being preached in the pulpits of America." Back in the 1700s and 1800s, the pulpits were ablaze with fiery preaching. It was revivals that made America good, and in being good, she became great.

Listen to the wisdom of this man. When America ceases to be good, she will cease to be great. God will always have a remnant, but overall, this nation is no longer good.

Not since the Civil War have we had such division in our nation, which puts us at risk of another civil war. We are so divided between good and evil, and the good is no longer so good. It's diluted, because our brand of Christianity is diluted.

The American brand of Christianity is either bland and boring or superficial, weird and mystical. It's either dead formalism or almost heretical in doctrine and practice. We make large boasts of nothing. We speak loudly and carry a little stick. As a result, evil has made great advances.

Personally, I've never seen the likes of the evil we now have in our nation. I've never seen such unreasonable and wicked men continually plotting evil. From riots and protests on the streets to images of our president being beheaded or shot, never have I seen such anger, hate, defiance, disrespect and blatant dishonor for the highest office in the land and for all that is moral, decent and good.

While the good has been diluted, the evil in our nation had been heightened to new levels. Our society has become a sewer of sexual perversion from homosexuality, to pedophilia, to transgenderism and other such deviant behaviors.

Our schools, universities and institutions of learning have been infiltrated with a plethora of globalist, anti-Christian and left-wing agendas. We glorify Islam and justify Muslims' right to migrate to America, despite their connection to terrorism and belief in Sharia. We defend and celebrate sexual perversion and every sort of evil, but we single out the Bible, symbols of the cross and Christian prayer, removing them from our schools and public institutions. Smart sinners can read between the lines and discern that there's something wrong here. Why is it that only the Bible, Jesus and Christianity are under attack while other religions are left alone? The only religion that's picked on, hated and discriminated against is Christianity. The only name that is blasphemed is that of Jesus Christ.

Why is there such opposition to Christianity in America at this time? What is behind such hatred and hostility toward our president? And what is the purpose of such agendas? In one word: globalism.

Christianity and an anti-establishment president like Donald Trump are big roadblocks to the globalists who are pushing for a new world order. Satan desires to take down America because she stands in the way of the spread of globalism, big government and political control of people's lives. Globalism's agenda is clearly an anti-family, anti-morality, anti-liberty and anti-Christianity agenda. Many people, especially the young, are being duped into accepting this agenda.

Our rising national debt is also benefiting the globalist agenda. Debt means wealth to the globalist. Your debt is somebody else's wealth. National sovereignty is a roadblock to the New World Order, enslaving humanity to the Western banking system. When the government spends money it doesn't have, it is charging its collective federal credit card and enslaving the nation. People are being duped and deceived into accepting this. Millennials think it's cool and don't realize they are being set up to be slaves of a NWO agenda and bureaucratic control of their lives. Wake up!

Christian revivals are perhaps the biggest enemy of globalism. Globalists hate nations who are experiencing any form of revival. Their plan is to be like God in your life and make you totally dependent on big government to take care of you. America stands in the way of their takeover agenda. Why do you think both Democratic and Republican elitists hate our president?

Donald Trump's slogan, "Make America Great Again," makes sense. It's a rally cry for national sovereignty. Many people believe God won't judge America, but when we see the forces of the leftist anti-God agenda increasing, we realize she is already under judgment. America is hanging in the balance because many have turned their backs on what made her great. She is reaping what she has sown.

You can't have a great nation without good people. I know many will disagree with me, but the election of Donald Trump was an extension of the mercy of God in response to the prayers of His people. We need a pushback right now from the church. We need a national awakening of prayer and repentance that is more than just show. We're in a fight. It's do or die right now, as our nation has reached the point of no return. We've been given a window of opportunity to turn things around. Let's understand what's at stake and seize the opportunity.

As the Summer Heat Rises, Chinese Officials Crank up Pressure to Close Vacation Bible Schools

China is turning up the heat on churches and parents to keep the nation's youth from learning about Christianity. 

Children in Zhejiang province won't be allowed to attend vacation Bible school (VBS), and other religious events this summer.

Officials have issued orders closing down Christian events and gatherings for children according to human rights group China Aid.

It's not the first time children have been the targets of religious oppression in China. The government took similar measures earlier this summer. 

In July, two state run groups - Henan Provincial China Christian Council and Henan Provincial Three-Self Patriotic Movement Committee -  halted summer camps hosted by churches in the Henan province.

"The temperature is very high during the summer," the groups stated in a document. "To conform to the country's related legal policies on youth health, no summer camps that involve youth and students shall be organized by any church." 

And in late June, officials from the Guizhou province told parents who attend house churches that if their children keep going to church, they will be banned from college and the military, according to China Aid. 

"This notice was sent to all of the schools in Huaqiu," said Mou, who runs Huaqui Church. "They (public security) intend to cleanse us and ask us to join the Three-Self Church."

The Three-Self Church is the state-sanctioned Protestant church body in China. 

China Aid also reports that parents from Huaqiu Church were pushed into signing a document pledging not to bring those under 18 to church. If they broke their agreement, not only would their children be barred from college and the armed forces, but their church would be sued. 

The new measures are putting parents in increasingly difficult situations.

"During (Chinese Presidents) Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao's time, the government was tolerant toward preaching and missionary work," said a Christian known as Zhang. "After Xi Jinping came into power, the government's grip on religion has strengthened."

But despite the opposition, education still stands as a door through which many Chinese are exposed to the gospel. Last year, CBN News interviewed headmaster of Veritas Christian Academy of Virginia, Sean Elgut, and his wife Maria. 

Sean says many Chinese parents are atheists or Buddhists, but are open to Christianity. 

What's more, they encourage their children to learn about it. 

"Chinese parents start to realize Christian education is beyond text books. The parents want their kids to live with faith," he said. "They are begging us to teach them about Jesus."

He says the time teachers get to do so is extremely valuable.

"Time is important. We want to spend more time with them, just like Jesus with His disciples," said Sean. "He had time for them and taught them."
