Denzel Washington may now be one of Hollywood's most hallowed names, but it's not fame and fortune that drives him.
It's God. And a prophetic vision He gave a woman more than 42 years ago.
Washington, whose new film Fences is racking up accolades, shared the details in a new interview with Access Hollywood.
"It was March 27, 1975, and I started acting four months later, and she said, 'You know, young man, you are gonna travel the world and speak or preach to millions of people,'" Washington recalls. "She said that and then she wrote 'prophecy'; she couldn't even spell it well. And then, my mother wrote, 'preacher.' And then I wrote my name. It was on a blue envelope; I still have it."

Denzel Washington Talks About The Time He Met God On A Film Set - Hello Christian

Denzel Washington Talks About The Time He Met God On A Film Set
Hello Christian Jan. 5, 2017

Denzel Washington is one of the most highly regarded actors of the last few decades. Starring in numerous blockbuster movies, he has produced award-winning performances time and time again. What you might not know is that Denzel is a committed Christian and the son of a minister. He recently sat down with pastor T.D. Jakes to his faith and his motivation in life.

Washington cleared up some stuff about the culture of celebrity, saying that fame and fortune were not for him. I "don't want anything to do with celebrity. I am an actor," he told Jakes. "I don't need any watches and all of that. So I'm here to serve God, here to serve my family."
Denzel also recently spoke of an incredible experience he had whilst filming "Fences" in a Pittsburgh neighborhood. Washington was amazed when two women offered him solace through prayer.
"A woman on the corner, she was watching me. She made her house a quiet place of prayer for me, and I'd go in there when things were getting overwhelming and just take a breath," Washington said during a conference call with The Christian Post. "Sometimes I'd just have a prayer with her."
Washington then shared the story of his encounter with another woman in the same neighborhood who said she and her family had been praying for him for more than 30 years.
"There was one woman in particular. Even before we started shooting I met her and I came and said, 'Oh thank you for coming out.' She said, 'We've been watching you for a long time.' I said 'Well, pray for me.' [And then] she said, 'Denzel, I've been praying for you for 35 years, my family and I," he said. "We've been watching, we know how hard it is."
A committed follower of Jesus himself, Denzel has talked at length about his Christian faith. A couple years back, he spoke to GQ magazine about being filled with the Holy Spirit.
"[It] was thirty years ago, at the church I still attend. The minister was preaching: "Just let it go". I said, "I'm going to go with it." And I had this tremendous physical and spiritual experience. It did frighten me. I was slobbering, crying, sweating. My cheeks blew up. I was purging. It was too intense. It almost drove me away. I called my mother, and she said I was being filled with the Holy Spirit. I was like, 'Does that mean I can never have wine again?'"
Denzel has also spoken about the necessity of daily prayer and spending time with God. He shared how he stays devoted to Christ every morning. "Put your slippers way under your bed so when you get up in the morning, you have to get on your knees to find them. And while you're down there, start your day with prayer. Ask for wisdom. Ask for understanding."
"Don't aspire to make a living, aspire to make a difference."

Did you know that Hollywood actor Denzel Washington considered becoming a Christian pastor?
According to Faithwire, the A-list actor whose father was a Pentecostal minister thought about preaching despite hating church as a child. Today, Washington has no qualms about his Christian faith. He has been a member of the West Angeles Church of God in Christ for over 30 years and professed that he prays and reads the Bible every day
Washington recalled from his childhood, "Because we had to go to church, I hated it. ... I rejected it in my early teen years, when you're working stuff out." Additionally, due to his father's pastoral role, Washington was barred from watching most Western films. Thus the only movies from his childhood he remembers are Bible epics such as King of Kings and The Ten Commandments.
Despite his sheltered childhood, Washington has held roles in a dynamic collection of films including American GangsterThe Equalizer and Training Day.
And of course, he no longer shies away from Christianity, and instead is quick to identify the impact it has had on his life. At a Christian charity event in St. Louis, Missouri, Washington attested, "There's never been a time (when) God didn't direct, protect and correct me."
Washington's career aspirations ranged from studying pre-med, to political science and pre-law, to journalism, before he finally settled on acting. A Christianity Today article reported that Washington "chooses roles that he can bend in the direction of a positive message or a reflection of his deep personal faith."
"Give thanks for blessings every day. Everyday. Embrace gratitude. Encourage others. It is impossible to be grateful and hateful at the same time," Washington remarked at a charity event.
What a refreshing message from a man who lives out his Christian faith despite the secular influence of Hollywood.

Faith Themes Play Major Role in 'Magnificent Seven' Remake - CBN News Efrem Graham

Faith Themes Play Major Role in 'Magnificent Seven' Remake
09-23-2016
CBN News Efrem Graham

TORONTO -- There is no shortage of sharp shooting -- or horse tricks -- in "The Magnificent Seven,"  a remake of the 1960s classic western film.

"A lot of action. A lot of cool stunts," actor Martin Sensmeier said. "I had a great stunt man. I did a few of my own, but he did an amazing job. He's a world champion bull rider. Jumping off buildings, the guy can ride like the wind, fearless."
Were there things Sensmeier didn't want to do?
"Yeah," he told CBN News. "Some of them I wanted to do, but they just wouldn't let me."
Famed director Antoine Fuqua guides this story of seven gun-toting cowboys uniting to rescue poor residents of Rose Creek. It's a fierce fight against savage thieves, who've taken over their town.
Actor Peter Sarsgaard is the evil Bartholomew Bogue.
"Oh, I think my character is, like, slowly dying through the course of the film. I'm looking like I am melting on screen," Sarsgaard said when asked about the transformation in his character over the course of the film. "It's like if you think of Dante's Inferno, he just going down, down to a pit of hell. I think mine is a journey down."
There are also several faith themes in this new story starring Hollywood heavyweights Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt. Both actors are also outspoken Christians.

Washington, a two-time Academy Award winner, leads the heroes, in the role of Sam Chisholm. Fuqua says he knew he wanted Washington for the role.
"Still, I kept feeling like it needs to be an event for me to get excited," he said. "And I said, 'Denzel Washington on a horse is the way to go. That's the event.'"
The event is a new take on on the 1954 film "Seven Samurai," and the 1960 classic western. Washington chose not to see the original film before coming to this role.

"I like to respond to what I read and try to interpret that. I didn't see the value for me in going back," he said.
This cast of Hollywood heavyweights includes Pratt, Ethan Hawke and Vincent  D'Onofrio.
"If somebody else was doing the remake of 'Magnificent Seven,' maybe I wouldn't have found it appealing," Hawke said. "But I knew Antoine would make it his own and make it fresh. The American western is such a symbol and to see Denzel take the helm is powerful to me, and I wanted to be a part of that."
Actor Vincent D'Onofrio added, "You get asked to do an Antoine Fuqua and it's got Denzel Washington, Ethan and Chris, you don't think those guys are going to try and remake, exactly the way. Everybody had the same feeling where we would just go in and create something cool and new and original."
The cool, new and original twist is a western story, with faith at the heart. Pratt is open about his faith off screen. We asked him what themes of faith play out in this film.
"Themes of redemption I think, forgiveness," Pratt said. "Those are major themes in my faith and in this movie as well. There are people who have done bad things, but are seeking righteousness or seeking an opportunity to make amends."
Washington also weighed in on the faith journey of his character, Sam Chisholm.
"I think he's struggling with his faith," Washington said. "He wants revenge, really."
Actress Haley Bennett plays Emma, the lone woman with the courage to ask for help to save her town. It's an act of courage that may seem out of character for a woman of that period, but Bennett says that's a misconception.
"The truth is - and I learned this in my research - women were just as involved as the men," Bennett said. "I mean, a lot of times the men were absent. The men were out hunting. The men were out trading."
For Bennett, this film was a chance to set the record straight.
"The Magnificent Seven" opens in theaters Sept. 23.

Famous Actor Denzel Washington Said THIS About the Bible… (MUST READ)

Famous Actor Denzel Washington Said THIS About the Bible… (MUST READ)

By TPIWriter | 516,051 views

There are plenty of reasons to think famous actor Denzel Washington would be a liberal. He’s a talented black actor who has been a success in Hollywood (two Academy Awards!). Statistics would make him highly likely to be an Obama-supporting secular liberal.

But that’s wrong! And Denzel’s comments about the Bible and his relationship with the Holy Scripture are extraordinary. He is a patriot, and is unafraid to reject the radical atheists on the Left Coast.

As he said in an interview, Denzel Washington is a proud Christian:

“I read from the Bible every day, and I read my Daily Word,” he told a reporter, adding that it was not difficult for him to grow up as the son of a preacher.

“He wasn’t a taskmaster, but there were certain things you couldn’t do,” Washington said. “He had his own church, and it was a long Sunday, because you had to be there all day.”

“Everyone I grew up with didn’t have a father,” he continued. “I had a father. My father was a decent man. He was a very spiritual man and a gentleman.”

He didn’t like going to Church when he was younger. But then he had a truly personal experience with Jesus Christ. And the rest is history!

“The minister was preaching, ‘Just let it go,’” Washington recalled. “I said, ‘I’m going to go with it.’ And I had this tremendous physical and spiritual experience.”

“It did frighten me,” he said. “I was slobbering, crying, sweating. My cheeks blew up. I was purging. It was too intense.”

He had plenty of questions – like any good Christian does – and he continues to pray on a daily basis to guide him through his career:

“It almost drove me away. I called my mother, and she said I was being filled with the Holy Spirit,” he recounted. “I was like, ‘Does that mean I can never have wine again?’”

Ever since that day, Washington has been a proud Christian, even going so far as to consider becoming a preacher.

“A part of me still says, ‘Maybe, Denzel, you’re supposed to preach. Maybe you’re still compromising,’” he said during a 1999 interview.

In the end, Washington decided to stick to playing preachers in the movies. He did, however, offer some creative advice for staying close to God every day.

“Put your slippers way under your bed so when you get up in the morning, you have to get on your knees to find them. And while you’re down there, start your day with prayer. Ask for wisdom. Ask for understanding,” he said. “Don’t aspire to make a living, aspire to make a difference.”

What a role model! He looks to a higher power, and is humbled by his God-given talents. By showing others how he lives his life, he is a great example for young people who might try to make it in Hollywood. No matter what, prayer and a personal relationship to God are essential to live a good life.

A Prayerful Denzel Washington Tells Young Actors, 'Get on Your Knees in the Morning' - CHARISMA NEWS

A Prayerful Denzel Washington Tells Young Actors, 'Get on Your Knees in the Morning'

Denzel Washington recently told a group of young actors that a good way to make sure you pray every morning is to put your shoes "way under the bed at night" so you "gotta get on your knees in the morning."
The Academy Award-winning actor was seen speaking to the young people in a video R&B singer and actor Tyrese Gibson posted on Facebook Sunday. He encouraged the group of seemingly aspiring actors to use their talent for good and always remember to pray.
"I pray that you all put your shoes way under the bed at night so that you gotta get on your knees in the morning to find them. And while you're down there, thank God for grace and mercy and understanding. We all fall short of the glory. We all got plenty," he said.
"If you just start thinking of all the things you've got to say thank you for, that's a day. That's easily a day," he added.
The actor, who is currently starring in a Broadway adaption of Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun, told the young actors that before every show he and the cast gather for prayer led by a young boy, Bryce Clyde Jenkins, an actor in the show.
"We have a little boy in our show—we're doing Raisin in the Sun—and we have a circle. We pray every day," Washington noted. "And his prayer—this boy is prayed up. He just prays that we go out and touch someone tonight. He says, 'God, somebody out there needs us tonight.'"
Washington also encouraged the group to realize that while it is good to have money, they should not abuse their gifts for material gain.
"And we all have that unique gift to go out and touch people to affect people. Understand that gift, protect that gift, appreciate that gift, utilize that gift. Don't abuse that gift," he told the actors.
"You'll never see a U-Haul behind a hearse. ... Now, I've been blessed to make hundreds of millions of dollars in my life. I can't take it with me, and neither can you. It's not how much you have but what you do with what you have," Washington said.
