We have just begun the Hebrew month of Tevet. The name tevet shares the root with the Hebrew word tov which means 'good'. Tevet begins with the last few days of Hanukkah on which we celebrate the triumph of good over evil. As we move away from Hanukkah and into the month of Tevet, we must remember to reveal the good that is hidden within our lives and the world around us despite difficult circumstances. There has been no more difficult time for the Jewish people in the modern area than the Holocaust.Despite the atrocities of this period, many European Jews survived the Holocaust and immigrated to Israel where they were able to rebuild their lives. Miraculously, and with the help of God, these heroic survivors were able to find and focus on the good in their lives and the world around them. As they age, these heroic survivors are in dire need of emotional and financial assistance to ensure their health, safety, and longevity.
