Prayer Is NOT a Worthless Response: What Greg Laurie, Jack Graham, and Franklin Graham Say About the Shootings - CBN News Steve Warren

Prayer Is NOT a Worthless Response: What Greg Laurie, Jack Graham, and Franklin Graham Say About the Shootings
08-05-2019
CBN News Steve Warren
Prominent Pastors Greg Laurie and Dr. Jack Graham say the mass shootings in America are clearly the result of a spiritual crisis in the nation.
In a five-minute Instagram video posted Sunday, Laurie and Graham discuss the shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio and what Christians need to do in response to the senseless violence and hatred.
Laurie, the senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, California, said there are two issues. First, there's evil in the world and man is basically sinful. Second, Jesus makes it clear that Satan is the one who "comes to steal, kill and destroy."
Laurie said that Bible verse proves that anytime someone kills someone else, it's inspired by the devil. "This is an act of pure evil motivated by Satan himself," he said of the shootings.
"It really seems to me," he said, "that we really need to be praying in our nation for a spiritual awakening because we're seeing more and more of these acts of violence and so many other problems in our country as well."
Graham, the pastor of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas, explains, "All of us are involved in some kind of a spiritual battle -- a warfare that's going on increasing. A battle that is getting hotter and hotter right now and predictably so. In fact, the Bible tells us in the final hours of human history that perilous times will come. Difficult, dangerous times will come."
Graham also addressed those who mock the power of prayer, who say government action is the only solution to these shootings.
"People even want to minimize prayer. 'Well, all you want to do is pray.' The most important thing we can do for people right now is to pray," he said. "Pray that God will comfort them. Pray for our community. Pray for churches. Pray for spiritual awakening. Pray for revival. Because, if this is a war against evil against Satan himself, then God has promised us a victory. And that victory is in Christ and Christ alone."
Both pastors know what it's like to experience violent tragedies in their families. Laurie's son was killed in an auto accident, and Graham's father was murdered.
"I've heard it said, 'Oh you know these Christians, 'thoughts and prayers,' that's worthless.' Well, you know what? It's not worthless," Laurie explained. "You talked about your own father that was murdered and our son tragically died in an automobile accident. And I know that people were praying for me. And I didn't say, 'Oh, I don't want your thoughts and prayers.' I welcomed them. And we need to be praying now for the families of those who were killed in these tragedies in Texas and Ohio."
Laurie asked Graham what he would say to someone who's lost a loved one right now.
"I would say turn to God. Trust in God completely," Graham responded. "I know these things are inexplicable, unexplainable, mysterious. When you are a victim of something you can't explain, you often want to quit. You want to give up.  But I would say turn to Christ, he will comfort you. The Holy Spirit is our comforter. To every family member and friend, I know we have been comforted by God's love, by God's grace in tragic times. And God will fulfill his promises in every person's life who will call upon him."
The pastor of the Prestonwood Baptist Church also reminded viewers that this is the perfect time to be preaching the gospel.
"There's never been a better time to preach the gospel than right now," Graham said. "Against the backdrop of all of this violence, all of this hate, all of this evil that we see rising, the political divisions, social unrest that we have. And that's why Greg I'm so grateful for you and the Harvest Crusade, and the churches that are able to be light in the darkness."
Laurie also reminded viewers to be praying for all the families enduring these tragedies in Texas and Ohio and to be praying for a spiritual awakening in America.
Meanwhile, evangelist Franklin Graham is also weighing in, posting on Facebook Saturday, "Our hearts break for the residents of El Paso, Texas…. I join with Governor Greg Abbott who said, 'We ask God to bind up the wounds of all who've been harmed.' We have sent rapid response chaplains from the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association to the area to help."
In another message posted Monday, Graham wrote: "The Word of God tells us to 'mourn with those who mourn,' and that is what our nation is doing. We grieve the tragic and devastating loss of life in El Paso and Dayton this weekend. The number of victims of the mass shootings is much higher than the headlines reveal, because each mother, each father, each sister and brother, each wife and husband, is also a victim—a victim of the heinous and senseless evil unleashed by two murderous gunmen. Their loved ones have been stolen from them."
"As we mourn with these families and communities, let's continue to sincerely lift them up in prayer before the Lord," Graham reminded his followers. "He is the only one who can comfort and wholly heal their broken hearts."

Franklin Graham Takes Aim at Madonna's Claim that Jesus Christ Approves of Abortion - CBN News Andrea Morris

Franklin Graham Takes Aim at Madonna's Claim that Jesus Christ Approves of Abortion
06-25-2019
CBN News Andrea Morris
Evangelist Franklin Graham is confronting the so-called 'Queen of Pop' Madonna for saying that Jesus would approve of abortions.
Madonna, who grew up Catholic, wants to meet with Pope Francis to convince him that Jesus would support abortion rights for women.
But Franklin Graham says that's absurd.
"Madonna says that the Author of Life, Jesus Christ, would approve of the destruction of life through abortion. That's absurd! I'm sorry that Madonna and others who believe the way she does are so misled," he said.
"They must not understand that one day God will hold them accountable. To stand before a Holy God with the blood of the unborn on your hands is a frightening thought," Graham said.
The 60-year-old Madonna, who is famous for her risqué behavior and her progressive beliefs, made her comments in an interview with Australian talk show host Andrew Denton to promote her new album.
The discussion turned toward abortion and a woman's reproductive rights. Madonna said she would like to sit down with the Pope and expand on Jesus' "point of view about women."
"Don't you think Jesus would agree that a woman has the right to choose what to do with her body," she said.
The Media Research Center's Newsbuster's site provides a video link to her comments:
Madonna has a history of outraging the Christian community with sacrilegious comments and behavior, such as her 1980's video 'Like a Prayer' which the Vatican viewed as a mockery of the faith.
Songs from her previous "Rebel Heart Tour" were forbidden in some places from being performed for being "religiously insensitive".
Madonna also used the interview to promote women's rights, but raised more eyebrows by encouraging prostitution.
"You could be a head of state and you could be a prostitute and both of them have something to admire," she said.
"There's an art to all of those things and one job isn't better than another and all women that do all of these things should be applauded and respected and admired and if that's what they choose to do," she concluded.
But Franklin Graham says Madonna's morality won't cut it with God. "Our only hope is to repent of our sins and put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ, our Creator and the giver of life."

Turning to God in a Godless Era - Franklin Graham

The Desk of Franklin Graham
Franklin Graham

Christianity Is Defined by God’s Word—Not Man’s

Dear Friend,

I just completed preaching the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ on the seven-city Decision America Northeast Tour.

We live in a culture that makes light of sin—we continue to see and hear this from many entertainers, athletes, and politicians. It is truly a battle for the soul of our nation, and believers need to pray for our country. The hope for America doesn’t lie in politics, but in God. Rather than turn our back on Him, we need to look to Him for answers to the problems our nation faces.

Christianity is defined by God’s Word—not man’s. For 2,000 years the church has taken its instructions from the Bible. The Bible doesn’t contain God’s Word—the Bible isGod’s Word.

We live in days where truth is rejected by many people. With the time God leaves me here, I am passionately committed to speaking God’s Word and showing the love of Christ every opportunity I have. Will you join with me in sharing God’s truth with people everywhere God opens the door?

Franklin Graham Asks All Christians to Pray President Trump Today: 'Because We Need God's Help' - CBN News Jenna Browder

Franklin Graham Asks All Christians to Pray for President Trump Today: 'Because We Need God's Help'
05-31-2019
CBN News Jenna Browder
WASHINGTON – Franklin Graham is calling on Christians nationwide to pray for President Trump today.  The evangelist told CBN’s Faith Nation it’s not a political endorsement, but simply an opportunity to heed the Bible’s instruction and pray for the nation’s elected leader.
“This is not a political endorsement,” Graham said. “It’s just simply praying for the President. The Bible instructs us to pray for those who are in authority.”
Graham also dismissed critics who accuse him of weaponizing prayer, saying “prayer is a weapon.”
“We can go straight to the throne of grace,” he explained. “God hears prayer and answers prayer.”
Graham said "no president has been attacked" more than Trump and that "the only hope for him, and this nation is God."
"He's our President and if he succeeds we all benefit but if his enemies are allowed to destroy him and pull down the presidency it will hurt our entire nation," the evangelist said.
Graham's Prayer
In a short four-minute video posted to his Facebook page today, Graham thanked his followers for joining him to pray for President Donald J. Trump. He also explained how the Lord laid the idea on his heart and quoted the scripture from Psalm 9:9-10 which reads: “The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; for You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You."
"This isn't politics. This isn't an endorsement. It's praying for our commander-in-chief," Graham explains in the video. "He is the President of the United States and he needs our prayers. And God instructs us to do that."
The evangelist then invites the user to pray with him and then pray their own prayer "because we need God's help."
"Our Heavenly Father, You tell us in your word, the scripture, the Bible that we're to pray for those in authority. And that's why we're coming to you today," Graham prayed. "We ask for your favor on the President of the United States Donald J. Trump."
"Father, we would ask that you lead and guide the President as he makes decisions that affect not only all Americans but freedom loving people around the world," he continued. "Father, we just ask that you give him wisdom. Wisdom from you. Wisdom to deal with the problems we have at the border.  Wisdom to deal with the trading issues, trading partners, other nations. Wisdom as he meets with world leaders."
"This weekend he goes to London to meet with Her Majesty the Queen, Theresa May, their prime minister and the leadership of that nation, our closest ally," Graham said. "We ask that you guide each and every step that he takes."
"Father, we would also ask that you protect him from his enemies. Give him health and give him strength," he implored. "Today, I pray for the President's family, especially his wife Melania and his son Baron."
"Father, we're all flawed human beings. We're guilty of sin. We've all failed. We thank you that you sent your son Jesus Christ from heaven to this earth to take our sins upon the cross," Graham continued. "That he died and shed his blood for each and every one of us and that you raised him to life. And Father, we know that you will come into each and every heart who's willing to turn from their sins and put their faith and trust in your son Jesus Christ.  So we thank you for that."
"And Father, we pray for our nation. And Father, we ask that you would heal the heart of this country and that people would look to you for guidance and direction each and every day," he prayed. "And Father, we pray this in the name of your son Jesus Christ. May your will be done. Amen."
After concluding his prayer, Graham thanks the user for joining him and reminds everyone to continue to pray for the President and for those in authority -- all of them.
"They need our prayers. Only God can change the human heart," Graham said. "You can pass all the legislation. You can pass all the laws that you want, but only God can change the human heart. Our hearts need God in this country. And my prayer for the President today is that God would guide him and direct him -- but may he direct our country and may his will be done."
Kevin Jessip, chairman of the grassroots movement "Save The Persecuted Christians," is one of the 250 leaders who signed the proclamation asking all Christians to pray.
"I was really obliged & thankful for Franklin's stepping out on this issue so we joined," he told CBN News
"I believe that the Word of God will be lifted up in this nation and that's what we need," he added. "We need the national dialogue to include the word of God."
250 Christian leaders have signed the statement of faith for June 2, which reads:
"We the undersigned are calling for June 2 to be a special Day of Prayer for the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, that God would protect, strengthen, embolden, and direct him.
"We believe our nation is at a crossroads, at a dangerous precipice. The only one who can fix our country's problems is God Himself, and we pray that God will bless our president and our nation for His glory."

Franklin Graham Asks Christians Nationwide to Pray for President Trump June 2 - CBN News Steve Warren

Franklin Graham Asks Christians Nationwide to Pray for President Trump June 2
05-26-2019
CBN News Steve Warren
Evangelist Franklin Graham sent an email and posted a Facebook message to his social media followers over the weekend, asking them to pray for President Donald Trump on June 2.
In his Facebook post, Graham wrote:  "Along with 250+ Christian leaders, I am asking followers of Christ across our nation to set aside next Sunday, June 2, as a special day of prayer for the President, Donald J. Trump. President Trump's enemies continue to try everything to destroy him, his family, and the presidency. In the history of our country, no president has been attacked as he has. I believe the only hope for him, and this nation, is God.
This is a critical time for America. We're on the edge of a precipice," Graham continued. "Time is short. We need to pray for God to intervene. We need to ask God to protect, strengthen, encourage, and guide the President. We know that God hears and answers prayer. He can soften hearts and change minds. He is all-powerful, and He rules over the affairs of nations. The Bible instructs us to pray for those in authority, 'that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior' (1 Timothy 2:2–3)."
Graham, the president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, is asking all Christians across the nation to set aside Sunday, June 2 as a special day of prayer.
"On June 2, we ask that pastors would lead their congregations in praying for the President, that Sunday schools and other groups would join together and pray, and that individuals and families across the country would have a special focus on praying for the President that day," he wrote.

Graham also asked his followers to indicate their commitment to pray.
"Would you let me know in the comments below if you commit to pray with us? And will you share this on your social media platforms so that we can have as many people as possible praying?" the evangelist wrote.
Graham ended his Facebook post and email with a quote from the Apostle Paul:
"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places." (Ephesians 6:12).
