When I began writing on my Enliven Blog ten years ago, I was spiritually dry and recovering from burnout. Yet now, as I write this on my blog's tenth anniversary, I look back in amazement at what can only be a move of the Holy Spirit.
So, if you can relate to feeling weary; if you sometimes wonder how you can complete the work God has called you to, be encouraged. Your Father wants you to know that He is unfailing. There is never any moment you where cannot draw life from Him! And if you have experienced spiritual dryness, you can be refilled.
Below is the story of how I overcame spiritual dryness, as well as some helpful keys to overcoming this in your own life.
1. Realize Your Weakness Is Not an Obstacle to God
Contemplating this milestone of a decade has been both wonderful and humbling for me; it is a miracle of God's grace that has made this possible, with the generous help of others. But to be honest, at the time, the thought of doing it again, even for one more week, was daunting! That is until I paused in prayer, and suddenly found myself in a vision.
In the vision, I was by a bubbling brook, surrounded by greenery. There was an indescribable peace in that place. The brook's water was flowing endlessly through a large rock. Then I noticed something. The water was pouring forth from the mouth of a clay jar. I suddenly knew that clay jar was cracked and broken, but it was completely encompassed by the rock. Within the rock, the jar was tilted in such as way that the water poured forth endlessly; only its mouth was visible.
"But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us."(2 Cor. 4:7 NIV) (Photo via Flickr)
Do you feel weak, or even cracked and broken in some way? Your weakness is not an obstacle to Him. Hear your Father say, "My grace towards you is such that My glory will shine through you and My power be seen upon you!" (2 Cor 12:9).
2. Be Dependent Upon Jesus
The clay jar I saw in the vision had capacity to pour because it was held and encased in the rock. You can have complete security in Jesus when He is your Rock, your source of life.
"[A]nd all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ." (1 Cor. 10:4 NKJV)
A cure for spiritual dryness is to be continually dependent upon Him. This is a position you can hold by faith.
Jesus explained it this way: "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing" (John 15:5 NKJV).
Your longevity in ministry doesn't rest on your ability or diligence, as important as these things are. It rests on your dependence upon Christ. Jesus uses the image of the vine and the branches to illustrate what He means by "abiding in Him." The branches are a part of the vine—an extension of it. They are not merely joined, they are one.
You can have the revelation of being one with Christ, and then live rested in that position of union with Him.
Can't You Talk Louder, God?
3. Live and Work Out of the Father's Delight
At the start of 2009, around eight months before I started my blog, I released most of my ministry roles. Everything I thought God had lined up for me, in order to fulfill His call on my life, had fallen over. I was now well into my forties. I had worked so hard but seemed to have lost it all, and had nothing left to give. Yet the Lord was at work. He allowed my spiritual dryness, for it led to my healing.
In my crisis of faith, I asked over and over, "Are You the God I am afraid that You are—a task-master whose approval I can never win? Or the Father I have longed for—a God of grace and joy?"
I had known theoretically that God was my Father, but I didn't know Him as my loving Father.
After a life-changing encounter with God as my Abba Father, I finally knew I didn't need to work for His approval. I was already "good enough"! I knew I was, always had been, and always would be His beloved child. And on this new foundation, I began to write.
Your Father is delighted in you; not because of anything you can do for Him. He loves you, He loves you, He loves you.
4. Be Continuously Filled with the Spirit
As 2010 began, my husband Malcolm and I both had a glorious infilling with the Holy Spirit. So much so, Malcolm had to carry me out of a meeting! (Photo via Pexels)
Finally, I had moved from spiritual dryness into overflow, but it started more than 6 months earlier as I learned to have regular encounters with God that replenished me, little by little.
We need to know where our life flow comes from. When we are releasing life to others out of our intimate relationship with God, we can continue to serve. Jesus said, "'Whoever believes in Me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.' By this He meant the Spirit..." (John 7:38-39 NIV). The source of this river is His Spirit, flowing from within us.
You are the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:19), and God's design for you is to never run dry. Today, I pray His life is released powerfully from within you. May you be filled and overflow with His immeasurable joy.
Your Work Matters to God
God created us to be in close relationship with Him. This doesn't mean that work is not important to God!
Yes, we need to take special time out for rest and prayer to prevent spiritual dryness, but there is no place where relationship ends and work begins. We do not work for God, we work with God, and our Father doesn't grade different types of work. Remember, in the beginning He put Adam to work tending the garden. All work can be done to the glory of God (Col. 3:17).
Today, I pray that you will know what it means to be filled to overflowing, and that any spiritual dryness will be swept away by an encounter with the grace of God.
He is waiting for you with open arms. (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

Helen Calder: "The Wounded Are Rising and Leading Revival" - The Elijah List

The Elijah List

Nov 18, 2018

Steve Shultz
From the desk of Steve Shultz:
I know many of you will be able to relate to this recent article from Helen Calder in which she shares about the wounds YOU have dealt with now bringing a great revival.
Just read this by Helen:
As our prophetic journey unfolds, the enemy will attack us in the very area of our identity and destiny. And sometimes, the very ones who should have been our protectors are the ones who have inflicted great pain. If you can identify with that, Jesus wants you to know that your greatest encounter with Him is just ahead. You are right on time for a heavenly appointment. You will fulfill your calling and you will lead many into a first-love encounter with Jesus (Rev. 2:4). You will be known for revival.
I pray this recent word by Helen brings great healing to your wounds and that revival would be your portion in this season! (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

Helen Calder: "The Wounded Are Rising and Leading Revival"

The Elijah List Nov 18, 2018

As our prophetic journey unfolds, the enemy will attack us in the very area of our identity and destiny. And sometimes, the very ones who should have been our protectors are the ones who have inflicted great pain. If you can identify with that, Jesus wants you to know that your greatest encounter with Him is just ahead. You are right on time for a heavenly appointment. You will fulfill your calling and you will lead many into a first-love encounter with Jesus (Rev. 2:4). You will be known for revival.
Wounded in the Pursuit of Love
In Song of Songs chapter 5, we find the Shulamite in pursuit of her beloved. Searching for him has taken her away from her bed, and out into the streets at night. She is seeking the one who sought her first. The Shulamite comes across a group of watchmen, the night police and keepers of the city walls. Their role is to look out for the residents of the city and their safety. They are employed as guardians and yet are perpetrators of the very evil they are supposed to be protecting her from.
"The watchmen found me as they made their rounds in the city. They beat me, they bruised me; they took away my cloak, those watchmen of the walls!" (Song of Songs 5:7 NIV)
Those Who've Held a Position of Trust
The Shulamite's encounter with the abusive watchmen is a picture of those who are meant to be our protectors, and yet, one or more of them has hurt us along the way. It may have been a parent or loved one; an overseer, a financial or medical advisor, a spiritual leader or boss. It may have been someone in our own employ, ministry or church. They held a position of trust. But instead of shielding us, they stripped away our covering, leaving us hurt and wounded. (Photo via Unsplash)
If you can relate to this, the Holy Spirit is ministering healing to you through God's Word. Jesus is wooing the wounded. You didn't expect the attack from that direction and it rocked you. But it couldn't rob you of your resolve to pursue God's presence, and you kept going.
Now you are emerging stronger and brighter. You are assured of your value, unwavering in your pursuit. The residue of pain and shame is falling away as you realize you are loved and desired by God! The King of the universe knows and calls you by name. Hear Him say, "You are My beloved."
Can't You Talk Louder, God?
Your Testimony is Being Revealed
"Nevertheless, make me this promise, you brides-to-be: if you find my beloved one, please tell him I endured all travails for him. I've been pierced through by love, and I will not be turned aside!" (Song of Songs 5:8 TPT)
This Scripture does not make light of the Shulamite's wounds. The account is raw and honest. Yet still she continues to seek the one she loves, and adjures her friends to seek him too. This is the very point at which those looking express utter amazement at how greatly she adores her beloved! "How is your beloved better than others, most beautiful of women? How is your beloved better than others, that you so charge us" (Song of Songs 5:9 NIV)?
Neither broken trust, nor the abuse of others, can hinder you from your life's greatest calling: your love relationship with Jesus. Your most powerful testimony is being revealed. The attention of many is going to be arrested by your tenacity and your love for God. Now, the Song of Songs is about to reach its crescendo. The Shulamite will know her beloved as never before.
Once Burned, but Now Emerging Glorious
This is not the first contemplation of the Shulamite's trials. As the Song of Songs begins, she tells us that her brothers, who should have been her caretakers, treated her harshly. They made her work without relief. (Photo via Unsplash)
"Do not stare at me because I am dark, because I am darkened by the sun. My mother's sons were angry with me and made me take care of the vineyards; my own vineyard I had to neglect." (Song of Songs 1:6 NIV)
She feels the stares of those looking at her with a critical eye. We read honesty, authenticity and courage. The past has left its mark, but her history will not keep her from her destiny. She has been emotionally bruised. Her self-esteem has been dented by those in her own family, and so, she withdraws. But the call of the beloved reaches her: "Come out from your place of hiding! Let me hear your voice! How I long for you to be fully mine. The shadows of the past are falling away as you come into the brightness of my new day"(see Song of Songs chapter 2).
Your Love is a Testimony
Are you recovering from weariness or burnout? You are about to receive a greater revelation of God's love for you, and your value to Him, than you have ever experienced before. Just as the Shulamite found the gardens of her beloved, you are discovering the intimate place of God's presence.
The pursuit is worth it. You are emerging stronger, brighter, wiser. Your story will stand forever, evidenced in the many others who have been won by your example of love. (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

Helen Calder: "Prophetic Insight: He is Coming to You as Fire!" - The Elijah List

Helen Calder: "Prophetic Insight: He is Coming to You as Fire!"

The Elijah List  July 1, 2018

Steve ShultzFrom the desk of Steve Shultz:
We've posted several words lately about the "fire of God" coming to do many things.
Here is another awesome word from Helen Calder of Australia, about the fire of God coming. His fire accomplishes much as Helen shares:
As we respond, He purges, He fills, He replenishes. The fire that cleanses the impurities now causes the vessel—you—to glow with a heavenly brightness. The same fire that removes what has bound you, now burns in you. It is a fire of His holiness. What once hurt and defiled you, has been removed. And in its place, you contain the fire of His bright, glorious presence. You know the touch of the Master.
Now that's a great word we all need to hear...and it can very well be a part of His preparation for us in the days ahead.
Be encouraged as His fire comes to make you into a mighty vessel! (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

Have you ever prayed, "Lord, show Me Your glory?" Or have you asked for more of God's fire?
There are times when God comes softly, and there are times He comes as Fire. And I believe now is one of those times, for many of us who have been hungering for Him, this is a time when He says:
"Beloved, this is what you asked for, when you earnestly desired Me and craved My glory and brightness. You called for My fire."
And you see Jesus as you have never seen Him before. The Apostle John was stunned, as he encountered Him like this:
"The hair on His head was white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes were like blazing fire. His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace...His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance." (Rev. 1:14, 16, NIV)
What Does Love Look Like?
Because God loves you and because He values you as a priceless treasure—more than gold, silver or precious jewels—there are times when He will draw near to you with His fire. God's fire speaks of His presence and His glory...His love, His holiness. Fire speaks of Who He is. "Our God is a consuming fire" (Heb. 12:29). (Photo via Pixabay)
The Prophet Malachi wrote: "But who will be able to endure it when He comes? Who will be able to stand and face Him when He appears? For He will be like a blazing fire that refines metal, or like a strong soap that bleaches clothes. He will sit like a refiner of silver, burning away the dross. He will purify the Levites, refining them like gold and silver, so that they may once again offer acceptable sacrifices to the Lord." (Mal. 3:2-3, NLT)
To love God is to honor and welcome Him as the One Who is many things to us. He is Saviour, Healer, Shepherd, King, Prince of Peace, and He is also Consuming Fire. In this moment of revelation, we have a choice. Will we give Him the desire of His heart, or draw back? Will we yield to the temptation to keep something from His holiness?
Because His fire scorches that which is unholy. The fire of His holiness consumes sin and self-will, but offers in its place, wealth beyond imagining as you have intimacy with the Beloved! Oh, how He wants you!
"Place me like a seal over Your heart, like a seal on Your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame." (Song of Songs 8:6 NIV)
Can't You Talk Louder, God?
The Invitation
There is a choice...one Jesus will not make on our behalf. It is a decision only we can make.
"In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. Those who cleanse themselves...will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work." (2 Tim. 2:20-21, NIV)
For "those who cleanse themselves" this is an opportunity to make an offering of your all to Him—to present yourself to His fire, which yields unlimited possibilities.
It is time for consecration:
• To dedicate your heart, mind, body and whole life to Him.
• To allow the Holy Spirit to put His finger on whatever aspect of your life and your will He pleases and to bring adjustment.
• Gently, and yet relentlessly, your Father reveals the work that needs to be done.
• It is His offer of supreme grace.
In that place of raw honesty, where nothing hides, you yield the soul attitudes that have dampened your joy and the pain and that history to Him. In His love, He pulls you into His fire and His purging flame burns up what is not of Him. Mercy prevails, removing all shame. You discover a greater intimacy with Him than you have known before. (Photo via Pixabay)
The Fire Burns in You
Jesus speaks to His lukewarm Church, echoing the Words of the Prophet Malachi, "For He will be like a refiner's fire or a launderer's soap." (see Mal. 3:2-3). He will say,
"I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see" (Revelation 3:18, NIV).
My PrayerFather, I know Your call is going out. And I ask for those whose hearts resonate, who say 'Yes!' to You—who have asked for You to come with fire and who have perhaps, up until now, not known what they have asked for. And they are catching a glimpse. Come, by Your Spirit and make them brave. (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)
