Netflix Picks Up Chronicles of Narnia in Major Deal

JESSILYN JUSTICE  CHARISMA NEWS
Avid readers of C.S. Lewis' beloved Chronicles of Narnia series received exciting news Wednesday as Netflix announced its plans to adapt the Christian franchise for streaming.
"C.S. Lewis' beloved Chronicles of Narnia stories have resonated with generations of readers around the world," Ted Sarandos, Netflix's chief content officer, says. "Families have fallen in love with characters like Aslan and the entire world of Narnia, and we're thrilled to be their home for years to come."
According to a release posted to the official series page on Facebook, Mark Gordon of Entertainment One (eOne), Douglas Gresham and Vincent Sieber will as executive producers for series and as producers for features. Gresham is Lewis' stepson.
It appears the deal includes both series and films.

"It is wonderful to know that folks from all over are looking forward to seeing more of Narnia, and that the advances in production and distribution technology have made it possible for us to make Narnian adventures come to life all over the world," Gresham says. "Netflix seems to be the very best medium with which to achieve this aim, and I am looking forward to working with them towards this goal."
Several films have been made from the franchise, including cartoon, BBC and Disney adaptations.
Some readers were concerned the streaming giant would remove the spiritual significance of the tales.
"I do not trust Netflix to do justice for the series! They will be trying to take God out of it like other companies have Christian movies," one person commented on the announcement.
Another wrote: "They better do it justice! Make it something CS. Lewis himself would be proud of! Make it what HE intended it to be and do not leave out God!"
Someone else said, "Please make it with the Godly intonations. Netflix should want a profitable product and to miss the mark against this beloved storyline would be a shame. Excited to view the product."

Rising Christian Artist Leaves His Life 'Wide Open' for the Holy Spirit - JESSILYN JUSTICE CHARISMA NEWS

Rising Christian Artist Leaves His Life 'Wide Open' for the Holy Spirit

JESSILYN JUSTICE  CHARISMA NEWS
Maybe you saw him on Rising Star or The Voice. Maybe you've heard his latest single, "Freedom Hymn," on your favorite Christian radio station.
Austin French's debut album, "Wide Open," hits the street this week, but there is more to the young worship leader than catchy tunes that show his heart.
The 24-year-old has two children, one biological and one adopted, with his wife, whom he served with at The Avenue Church.
The Avenue Church is in Delray, Florida, which is called the recovery capital of the world. French says his church was about 80 percent recovering addicts.
"The recovery community doesn't need fake hope," French tells Charisma News. "They need real hope. That comes from Jesus, and the people that find that become passionate about telling others. The church grew because the gospel is tangible and real. They found that Jesus breaks chains of addiction, and when your life depends on getting clean, you stick with it."
His work with his congregation is evident in his album.
"My music is a reflection of the community I was surrounded by. It's real and honest. They are songs of where confession meets the healing power of God," French says.
"I've never been addicted to drugs or alcohol, but I struggle with sin every day. I learned that just like trying to get sober from addiction the more you talk about it the easier it gets to love life apart from that addiction. I relate because the more I talk about what I struggle with and bring it in the light, the enemy loses control over my life," French says.
And as he wrote, he tuned his ear to what the Lord was saying.
"The Holy Spirit taught me so much through the writing process of this record," French says. "He taught me that songs are like testimonies. They have the power to heal, the power to encourage and the power to challenge. Through this process, I wrote songs about my life and where I was with God and the moments that filled up the past four years. Looking back and listening to this record, I hear prayers answered, and I see moments my life changed because of the Holy Spirit working in my life."
Another life change? Doubling the size of his family.
While he and his wife, Jocelyn, pursued adoption for her mother's foster child, Coleman, the young couple discovered they were expecting.
"My wife getting pregnant was something we had hoped would happen for the benefit of our little boy we were adopting," French says. "We want our little boy to grow up with a brother or sister really close in age to just enjoy the bond of a sibling. When we found out we were going to naturally have a baby we honestly just smiled because God knew the desires of our heart for children. And God is always sovereign."
The constant state of flux inspired the title track, "Wide Open."
"That is the state of life that we are in even currently. The beautiful thing we've discovered is that our capacity or at least we think we can handle is limiting. That when we lift our hands wide open our hearts wide open and live our lives wide open to God, He does immeasurably more than we could ever hope and dream. It has affected part of my music journey and will continue to do so forever."

How This Spirit-Filled Director Continues His Family's Famous Spiritual Legacy From Behind a Camera - JESSILYN JUSTICE CHARISMA NEWS

How This Spirit-Filled Director Continues His Family's Famous Spiritual Legacy From Behind a Camera

JESSILYN JUSTICE  CHARISMA NEWS
David Cunningham comes from seven generations of missionaries and ministry workers. If his last name rings a bell, it could be because his parents, Loren and Darlene, founded Youth With a Mission in 1960. It's this incredible spiritual legacy that impacts Cunningham's role in Hollywood as a director. His latest film, Running for Grace, stars Jim Caviezel and Matt Dillon in a powerful story about family, adoption, identity, racism and hope. Cunningham recently spoke with Charisma News about his faith, the industry and how the two work together. The film opens Aug. 17 in limited theaters, but will be available on demand on Aug. 20.
Walk me through the story behind your latest film:
I am a father of three kids. We all love movies and hanging out with each other but always have the same challenge of finding a movie we all actually want to see. What ends up happening a lot is everyone goes to their own devices and watches their own show separately. The whole joy of watching together is replaced by binge watching in the dark on your own with some small backlit device. Besides being avid film watchers, we have the privilege of living in Hawaii, where all three of my kids were born and are being raised. We like to do adventures around the island: expeditions to waterfalls, trails and remote beaches. In addition to the diversity of the landscape on Hawaii Island (11 of the 13 climate zones exist on one island), we have some of the most diverse ethnicities in the U.S. I actually grew up in Hawaii as a minority (I am haole, aka Caucasian) where most of my friends were Hawaiian or of mixed race. It was a real gift to grow up that way and has shaped the way I see the world and the kinds of movies I make.
I made Running for Grace to bring my family (and hopefully yours) together to experience an uplifting movie with themes of challenges and victories that we can all relate to on a daily basis. I think audiences will be entertained as they are swept away to another time and place and hopefully the importance of identity and the power of adoption will resonate. It is mind-blowing to think that in the 1920s, it was illegal by federal law to be able to adopt a child of mixed race. It was called "racial integrity." The segregated society in Hawaii was meant for control like so many places in the world at that time (and sadly still the case in some places today). Running for Grace is about a boy of mixed race who defies all the odds to fight for what is most important to him and changes the whole community around him.
I think one of my favorite days on set was when we were filming a romantic scene high up the mountain on a sunny, clear day. The weather suddenly changed, and a bank of thick fog rolled in. With just a few minutes' notice, we had to switch into an entirely new scene that was scheduled for another day and that was going to require a lot of fog machines and Computer Visual FX. Matt Dillon, Jim Caviezel, Ryan Potter and Nick Boraine shifted gears. The crew raced into action and within minutes we were filming a scene where the volcano had erupted and the "vog" was pouring over the island. The scene turned out epic with no manmade effects needed. That's how magic is captured in movies. You gotta love making movies with those kinds of folks.
We had a blast making this movie with such a talented and fun cast and crew. It was truly a family venture. My wife was the department head for makeup and hair, my kids were extras and stand-ins, and we even filmed part of the movie on our property. After spending many years making movies around the world (often in many cold and dark places) I feel so blessed to be able to make a movie I care about with my family and friends literally in my own back yard! What? Who gets to do that?
How is your personal faith journey displayed in your work?
Every movie is a major leap of faith (this is my eighth movie to direct) and is very tough. It keeps me on my knees a lot. I am constantly asking for inspiration. Filmmaking is a medium that must be inspired in some regards to connect with audiences. I look to the ultimate inspiration for that touch.
How does your spiritual legacy affect your work?
I have seven generations of ministers and missionaries on one side of the family and four on the other. My great-grandfather started 13 churches out of a covered wagon in the Territory of Oklahoma. My great uncle was a prisoner of war in World War II in China at the hands of the Japanese as he refused to leave his congregation there. My grandmother was the first woman ordained minister in her denomination and my parents started the interdenominational organization of YWAM or Youth With A Mission. I believe I am continuing the family legacy but that my pulpit looks a bit different. My family legacy represents folks who sacrificed much for others. I try to remember that when things get tough.
What do your parents think of working in Hollywood?
They are super supportive and understand that my calling is to influence popular culture for Him.
Many Christians think Hollywood should be boycotted at all costs. What is your response to this?
My father tells the story that in the 1950s, when Bible-based movies were doing very well at the box office, a studio executive reached out to Bible schools and ask them to send graduates to help write Bible-based movies. One Bible school president wrote back, "I would rather send our graduates to hell than to Hollywood". There was a total rejection of popular culture by much of the faith community. In doing so, we lost influence and authority in one of the most influential spheres in the world. It has taken decades to see changes in that area. I firmly believe we need to engage and create, not sit on the sidelines and judge.
Jim Caviezel has openly talked about persecuted Christians and getting more involved in assisting them. How has he impacted you to consider this?
It was an honor to direct Jim. His role in The Passion was polarizing for him in the industry. It cost him much. I admire his courage and conviction.
What sort of prophetic words have guided your career?
There are too many to list. I seek the Lord in what I do on a daily basis and find that "strength will rise when you wait upon the Lord."
Anything else you'd like to add?
I am grateful for your interest and support. I hope the themes in Running for Grace of the power of adoption will resonate with your readers. We have been doing benefit red-carpet screenings with our movie, celebrating parents who have adopted and we are carrying that theme into the digital release. We have a way for folks to bless families that have adopted by gifting them an HD download of our movie. Please go to runningforgracemovie.com to see where we are playing in theaters and how you can receive and give a digital copy. Mahalo!

Christians Launch Prayerful Counterattack Against Satanic Idol Display

JESSILYN JUSTICE  CHARISMA NEWS
Join us on our podcast each weekday for an interesting story, well told, from Charisma News. Listen at charismapodcastnetwork.com.

The Satanic Temple plans next week to unveil the demonic Baphomet statue during a rally at the Arkansas State Capitol to counter the Ten Commandments monument.
The rally, planned for Aug. 16, "is intended to bring together religious leaders of different faiths to discuss the importance of the First Amendment and its protection for religious pluralism," the group said in a news release.
The Baphomet statue has the head of the goat with a five-point star on the body of a human. The statue has wings and hooves for feet. Ultra Culture identifies the idol as a "profoundly influential occult icon."
However, Christian groups have planned a prayerful counterprotest during the satanic demonstration.
"For the first time in American history, with this brazen display of this Baphomet statue, Aug. 16 will be a day of public acceptance of the devil on American soil," says Jack Burnham of the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property (TFP) and friends and supporters of its America Needs Fatima campaign. "Satanism is not a religion. They worship no god, only hating the one, true God, His creation and the wise Commandments He gave for peaceful and harmonic human societies. This procession, with its Baphomet idol of Satan in tow, will attract real devils as it makes its way from out of state to the Arkansas Capitol grounds. That is how the devil works."
Spirit-filled Arkansas Sen. Jason Rapert, founder and president of americanhistoryandheritage.org, which raised all of the private funds to build and install the Arkansas Ten Commandments Monument, says that though the Satanic Temple has the right to free speech, most of his constituents disagree with his organization's message.
"The majority of the people living in Arkansas support the display of the Ten Commandments Monument on our state Capitol grounds to honor the historical and moral foundation of law that the Mosaic Code represents," Rapert tells Charisma News.
"The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2005 in Van Orden v. Perry that the state of Texas had a legitimate right and purpose to display the Ten Commandments on their capitol grounds. I have also personally visited the Ten Commandments monuments on the grounds surrounding the state capitols of Arizona and Colorado, and just recently visited the U.S. Supreme Court building in Washington, D.C. where the Ten Commandments [are] engraved into the doors leading into the court chamber itself," Rapert continues.
"The so-called Satanic Temple is a radical atheist group using the trappings of satanism to mock the history and heritage of our nation. They have a right to speak out just like any other group in our nation in accordance with the law, but the vast majority of people in our state and across the country reject their extremism and their ideas, and that is our right. Their brief visit and demonstration [are] offensive to the values of the people of Arkansas, but we will be here, and the Ten Commandments Monument will still be standing on our Capitol grounds when they are gone," Rapert says.
The Satanic Temple spent three years lobbying for the Baphomet display.
The appearance of the 7½ foot bronze statue on Capitol grounds has been a long time coming. In August 2015, Arkansas Legislature passed a bill introduced by State Senator Stanley "Jason" Rapert to install a Ten Commandments statue on State Capitol grounds. By rejecting The Satanic Temple's subsequent offer to donate its statue of Baphomet on Capitol grounds, Arkansas violated the establishment clause of the First Amendment by endorsing one religion over others.
The Satanic Temple's application was blocked by an emergency-session bill that requires all monuments have legislative sponsorship. While the bill prevented the Baphomet statue from being considered, ironically it only magnifies the degree to which the State legislators are endorsing one religion over others and thereby deliberately rejecting the U.S. Constitution.
In April, the Ten Commandments monument was installed in Little Rock and in July, The Satanic Temple filed a motion to intervene in a federal lawsuit opposing the Ten Commandments monument. The Satanic Temple is now seeking a court order to require the state to install the statue of Baphomet on the Capitol grounds.
Greaves explains, "This isn't a rally of secularists versus people of faith, Satanists versus Christians, or outsiders versus Arkansas. This is a rally for all people who hold sacred the founding Constitutional principles of Religious Freedom and Free Expression that have fallen under assault by irresponsible politicians like Senator Rapert. We welcome people of all backgrounds and religious beliefs to stand with us."

An image of an angel-shaped cloud is going viral, inspiring faith across the internet—and a few trolls.
Danny Ferraro posted the picture to his Facebook page with the caption: "TEXAS ANGEL This was the sunset as we were driving down Hwy 105. How awesome is that!"
The photo garnered hundreds of comments/reactions and thousands of shares.
While some internet trolls compared the cloud to a praying mantis in a dress or Julie Andrews in the Sound of Music, others saw it as a sign from above.
"Things like this make me so thankful for God's beautiful blessings. I recently lost my mom and seeing this just made my day!" commented one person.
Another said: "I take this as a Blessing from God ! Thank You Jesus for this beautiful sign of You God for watching over us all."
Someone else wrote: "Oh my gosh!!! God is at work, Beautiful!!!"
Another posted: "Our Lord Jesus Christ is sending a message to all of us through the Angel above."

Cast, Crew Walk Off the Set of the True Story About Roe v. Wade - JESSILYN JUSTICE AND SHAWN AKERS CHARISMA NEWS

Join us on our podcast each weekday for an interesting story, well told, from Charisma News. Listen at charismapodcastnetwork.com.

Some of the cast and crew walked off the set of a pro-life movie aimed to tell the truth about the infamous Roe v. Wade Supreme court decision.
Nick Loeb, the producer of the project, says a woman walked up to him last week during filming outside New Orleans.
Loeb says the woman asked if he was the director of the film.
"When I told her I was, she told me to [obscenity]," Loeb tells The Hollywood Reporter. "Then she threw her headset on the ground and walked off. I found out later she was our electrician."
He continued: "We had to replace three local actors, including one who was to play Norma McCorvey, even after she begged for the role."
Apparently the cast and crew didn't realize the film had a strong pro-life bent.
For Troy Duhon, the man behind the God's Not Dead brand, the walk-out is not coincidental. Though the movie has been in production for a few months, the mainstream media just now caught wind of the story thanks to Anthony Kennedy announcing his retirement from the Supreme Court.
"God's timing is always perfect," Duhon tells Charisma News. "You think about what [President Donald] Trump's about to announce on Monday, what is the first major case that's about to come up? You can't deny it, it's going to be the undoing of Roe v. Wade."
Trump is expected to announce his replacement for Kennedy next week.
Along with pro-life champion Dr. Alveda King, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Loeb has taken on the role of executive producer of Roe v. Wade: The Movie. It is a film he says could radically transform opinions on the controversial issue of abortion and impact millions of lives.
Previous films like VoicelessMeant to Be and Juno contained storylines centered around abortion. A made-for-television movie starring Holly Hunter, Roe vs. Wade, hit the small screen in 1989.
But Loeb, who has starred in Hollywood films like ExtractionSwing State and Precious Cargo and produced the documentaries The Smokers and The Living Century, says Roe v. Wade: The Movie will uncover hidden facts and expose the lies and manipulations surrounding the Supreme Court's decision to legalize abortion in 1973.
"No one has ever made a theatrical movie about the most famous court case in history, and certainly no one has ever done a true version of it," Loeb says. "It's an issue that most Americans, if they read the news at all, are familiar with.
"This movie is the real untold story of how people lied, how the media lied and how the courts were manipulated to pass a law that has since killed over 60 million babies."
Loeb says that "80 percent of the dialogue by characters in Roe v. Wade: The Movie is documented in speeches, interviews and publications" and that "everything we put in the movie is 100 percent fact checkable." Planned Parenthood, perhaps the most powerful driving force behind the pro-abortion movement, is a major theme throughout the film.
The film reveals how Planned Parenthood and abortion advocacy organization NARAL were behind efforts to find a young girl named Norma McCorvey—who eventually became the Roe in Roe v. Wade—about whom "they could manufacture a case to bring before the Supreme Court."
McCorvey eventually became a pro-life advocate.
Roe v. Wade: The Movie also focuses on Dr. Bernard Nathanson, founder of the National Abortion Rights Action League. It explains how Nathanson, too, reversed his views on the issue and became a pro-life activist, including narrating an anti-abortion documentary in 1984 titled The Silent Scream.
Film co-producer Cathy Beckerman (Alien AbductionIsolationThe Experiment) says Roe v. Wade: The Movie is a film that bigwigs in Hollywood would prefer kept from the general public.
"Hollywood certainly does not want the truth to be told, and this movie is the truth," Beckerman said. "They have reduced abortion as an everyday procedure, comparative to going to the dentist. The women's movement really influenced it, and Hollywood has done everything they can to carry on that agenda."
Hollywood has countered Roe v. Wade: The Movie with three pro-abortion movies currently in production. Call Jane stars Elisabeth Moss, who recently won two Emmys for her role in Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale. The other two, which The Hollywood Reporter says has received a financial boost from Planned Parenthood, are titled Ask for Jane and This is Jane, based on the same illegal abortion network featured in Call Jane.
"We're hoping to find an angel out there that will help us because we know no one in Hollywood wants to fund this movie," Loeb says. "We're confident we will get the funding."
Loeb says the movie contains no bad language or nudity, but it features two "extremely violent" scenes, one including police walking out of an abortion clinic with "buckets of dead fetuses." Loeb says two friends of his, both of whom were pro-choice previously, changed their views after reading the film's script.
Academy Award-winning actor Jon Voight stars in the film as a Supreme Court justice. Stephen Baldwin has also signed on to star in the movie and as an executive producer. King makes a cameo appearance in the film.

A Michigan man says his security cameras picked up footage of an angel with a sword recently.
"I said, 'That's an angel!' And I was just blown away, I couldn't wait to send it to my wife and send it to [Pastor] Deneille [Moes]. And I said, 'I got an angel, and my camera took a picture of an angel,'" Glen Thorman tells WNDU.
"It was really clear to me the minute I looked at the photo, I just kind of freaked out a bit," Moes, the pastor of Jordan Rivers Church, says. "I went like 'Whoa! That's an angel!' And I texted him back, 'That's an angel.' There wasn't any doubt in my mind that we were looking at something supernatural."
The photos were posted to Jordan Rivers' Facebook page along with several other miraculous reports.

How to Serve God When You're Not Called to 'Real' Ministry

JESSILYN JUSTICE  CHARISMA NEWS
Join us on our podcast each weekday for an interesting story, well told, from Charisma News. Listen at charismapodcastnetwork.com.

Life.Church recently launched an initiative so people could use their talents can serve the body of Christ.
Open Digitari is an open-source network that will empower designers, developers and engineers to collaborate, develop and improve technologies that will revolutionize the church and change the world.
"We are constantly thinking about what more we can do and what else we can give away for free to help advance the kingdom," says Terry Storch, Life.Church director of Digerati. "Open Digerati comes from that same spirit of generosity and builds on that foundation. This isn't just an opportunity, it's a responsibility. We believe we're called to steward the gifts, talents and influence we have to bring people together as God does something truly special."
Open Digitari officially launched earlier this year with partners like Compassion International, YouVersion and Rock RMS, who are distributing various tools.
The Compassion project, for example, is a tool that allows users to import various data (via .csv, json, api, xml and so on) and cleanse the data to a common structure and field formatting that could be used with Tableau or other BI tools. In plain English, that means the tool will make it easier for churches and companies alike to create visual representations of data analytics to help in decision making.
Other projects offer a host of developer tools including website design, maintenance, app development and server administration.
The people behind the code are not stereotypical ministers, but they are just as called to serve.
"So often, people think that 'real ministry' means going into full-time ministry or traveling abroad," Storch says. "While some are called to do those things, I want people to understand they can do ministry from wherever God has placed them. He has given each of us gifts and talents that we can and should use for His kingdom. So my biggest hope for this initiative is that we can help people connect the dots and see that they can make an impact just by doing what they do every day, for the kingdom. There's a reason God puts people in the positions they're in and gives them the talents He gives them. And together, each of us playing the role we're meant to play can help change the world for the better."
The platform fuels the Great Commission in new and innovative ways.
"There are more people alive today than at any other point in history," Storch says. "We're in the midst of a population spike, and the curve keeps increasing. What's interesting is that access to technology is increasing at the same time. More than ever before, we are able to connect billions of people around the world through technology. What a unique opportunity we've been given at this point in time. Individually, we can build all kinds of things for the good of the kingdom. But imagine what we could do if experts in their field, who are passionate about advancing the kingdom of God, came together as the body of Christ. What might we build together for God's glory? I believe we were born now for such a time as this."
Where centuries past saw missionaries hopping on boats to spread the Good News, these modern-day missionaries have adapted the gospel message to beam around the globe. By bringing these tech-based workers together, Open Digitari has created a new mission field.
"We're able to go and make disciples in ways that weren't possible in the past," Storch says. "And God is working through these efforts more powerfully than we even dreamed was possible. It's amazing and humbling to think about how God is working through the church with the use of technology to make it easier for people to come to know Him."

Christians Fear Mass Murder, Jihadist Crusade After Unprovoked Attack

JESSILYN JUSTICE  CHARISMA NEWS
Join us on our podcast each weekday for an interesting story, well told, from Charisma News. Listen at charismapodcastnetwork.com.

Islamist nomadic herdsmen may be about to launch another "jihadist crusade" involving "mass murder," according to a local church leader, after two young Catholic fathers became the latest fatalities in unprovoked attacks on Christian communities in northern Nigeria.
According to a press release written by Murcadha O Flaherty and John Pontifex of Aid to the Church in Need (acnuk.org,,also known as ACN, father of three Yohanna Stephen and Dakare Martins, who has one child, were shot dead in Asso village, Kaduna state, with militant Fulani accused of carrying out the murders.
ACN referred to the killing of the two married men, both in their mid-20s, which took place last Thursday (April 5), a week after the murder of four men and two women in another part of Kaduna state, an attack which was also blamed on the Fulani extremists.
In an interview with ACN, the Catholic charity which works for persecuted and other suffering Christians, Asso parish priest Father Alexander Yeyock stated: "The sad implication of [these attacks] is mass murder for Christians in the northern part of Nigeria, especially the northeast and middle-belt regions."
ACN quoted Father Yeyock as saying that extremists in Nigeria were pushing for "an Islamic state and Shari'a rule".
"The attack has two dimensions. The first is to Islamize the Christian community. It is a jihadist crusade in a subtle manner." Father Yeyock told ACN.
"The second dimension is that the Fulani herdsmen want to confiscate our arable land for grazing purposes." [Fulani militants] are a masqueraded Boko Haram [Islamist terror group] in disguise."
The charity said that Father Yeyock stated Asso villagers' safety concerns increased after soldiers defending the majority-Christian community were arrested after firing on the attackers and were replaced with troops, a number of whom are feared to be Fulani militants.
It went on to quote the Catholic priest as saying: "...With the awareness of what happened to the previous soldiers, the high concentrated number of [new soldiers] have increased the tension in Asso community, which is predominantly a Christian community."
ACN said Father Yeyock, while stressing how the Asso attack had sparked widespread fear in the local Christian community, said that the community's inhabitants find it difficult to go to their farms, and farming is the main occupation of the people.
"Once it is 6 p.m., everyone begins to get jittery for fear of the unknown." ACN quoted Father Yeyock as saying.
The attack in Asso last Thursday took place amid concerns that militant Fulanis could travel to the region and wreak havoc after new laws in a state south of Kaduna dealt a severe blow to their cattle-grazing livelihood.
ACN said that speaking at the funeral of victims of the violence, Benue state governor Sam Ortom described how Fulani extremists "went on the rampage wielding machetes" in an attack where 72 Christian farmers were killed on New Year's Day 2018.
About a week later, 55 people in Taraba state's Lau district were killed and again militant Fulani were implicated in the attack, said ACN's release.
ACN said that Father Yeyock, in his interview with the charity, accused local government of fueling the attacks by not prosecuting offenders.
The charity said Garba Sarkin-Noma, Kaduna state federal representative for Jema and Sanga, referred to the violence in Asso in his talk to the local media.
Garba Sarkin-Noma told the local media: "That these attacks are being perpetrated in the absence of any provocation despite the presence of security personnel within the vicinity is an affirmation that a silent war has been declared on our communities by agents of darkness."
He [Garba Sarkin-Noma] called for an effective response from the government as well as the military to "expose and punish the perpetrators of these heinous crimes," said ACN.
In an ACN interview in February, Archbishop Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso of Kaduna stated that the Fulani militants were now armed with modern weapons and that they had become radicalized, adding that "powerful forces with connections to terrorist organizations such as Daesh (ISIS) and Al-Qaeda are behind groups such as these".
International reports have noted that the umbrella body for Nigerian Muslims dissociates itself from Boko Haram, condemning their attacks as "barbaric," said ACN.
