Steph Curry Explains Moment He Truly Became a Christian and ‘Gave My Life to Christ’ - CBN News Lindsay Elizabeth

Steph Curry Explains Moment He Truly Became a Christian and ‘Gave My Life to Christ’
06-09-2019
In-between leading his team to the NBA finals, and being a dad to three kids under seven, Steph Curry released episode five of his Facebook series, “Stephen vs. The Game,” to which he dedicated to his faith.
The episode, titled “Faith,” details the impact Curry’s relationship with Jesus Christ has had on his basketball career, his family, and how he deals with every obstacle that comes his way.
“Faith” begins with Curry explaining how at the end of the day, his faith resides in his creator because he knows he can only control so much, and that there is a much bigger power controlling the universe.
“My faith is tested on the court as much as it is in life,” Curry said on the show.
“It’s the part that always keeps me focused on what I need to do when it comes to my family, when it comes to my job, when it comes to how I treat other people, my appreciation for life and all the good things that happen and how to deal with the bad things that happen.”
The 3X NBA Champion point guard for the Golden State Warriors believes fully that his strengths, abilities, and talents come from God. This pushes him put his faith first in all aspects of life, whether that is family, or on the court.
“I put believer first, because that is supposed to be the roots of everything that I do as a believer, as a husband, as a father, and on down from there.”
“Faith to me is believing in the unseen, and having a conviction that there is a higher power that has given me a purpose to what I am doing on this earth,” he added. “For me, that is the foundation to how I live my life and how I want to see the world through that lens.”
How Family and Faith Has Shaped His Life
The NBA superstar grew up going to church. Every Wednesday, he would attend the youth service at church, and then on Sundays, his family would all attend the morning service.
Curry’s father, Dell Curry, also shared in the episode how foundational faith had been to both him and Steph’s mother and how they made sure to instill the same values in their children.
Both his parents, Dell and Sonya, shared how their faith is their foundation to all things in life. Whether they have challenges, questions, times of prosperity: God is at the center for all things.
“My faith to me is my strength,” Sonya Curry shared. “When I have questions, challenges, I read the Word, and it’s my beacon of light, my lighthouse.”
Part of the reason that Curry has stayed so firm in his faith, could be due to the fact that his family made it a priority growing up. His mother shared that she would wake the kids up before school to do devotionals as a family, “to emphasis putting God first.”
Until he was in eighth grade, Curry more so saw Christianity as his parent’s faith.
“[Christianity] was more something that was important to my parents but I never really understood it,” Curry said. “It was a decision I needed to make for myself. I was kinda just going with the flow.”
He recalled an experience in eighth grade where one of his pastors, Pastor Jason, explained the importance of having your own faith, and not just living off of your parent’s faith, which hit Curry hard.
“I felt a calling, went down to the altar, and gave my life to Christ,” Curry shared. “That became the beginning of my own personal journey.”
“My faith is about the personal relationship, more so than following a certain religious tradition or practice. Challenges you to make sure that you are feeding your spirit with the right things versus what the world is throwing at us. It’s a constant battle, if I say I have it down, I’d be lying.”
Sharing His Faith On and Off The Court
Curry explained that although he takes every opportunity to talk to someone about God, and his faith, he puts a larger emphasis on letting his actions speak for him.
“I strive to be myself, live out my faith, continue to learn, and not be afraid of that higher calling. I feel there’s a responsibility to that, and I own it,” Curry explained.
He also added how he began writing “I can do all things…” on his shoes after his mother challenged him to find a life verse to give him strength.
“My mom challenged me to find a verse that I could rely on to give me strength, give me a sense of purpose and to remember who I was playing for every time I lace up my sneakers,” he shared.
“It reminds me why I am blessed with these talents, where I get my strength from, and who I am playing for,” Curry added.
The episode wraps up with Curry driving his two daughters Riley and Ryan to school, saying a prayer along the way.
“Dear God,” Curry says out loud, “We thank you for this day. I thank you for my pretty girls, Riley and Ryan. I ask that you keep them safe at school today and that they have fun, and let them be on their best behavior. I pray that they learn something, and have fun with their friends. And we thank you for all your many blessings, and in Jesus name, we pray.”
“Amen,” the three say.
While they drive, Christian singer Lauren Daigle’s song “You Say” plays in the background, with the girls singing along.
The Facebook series is season two of “Versus On Watch,” where Facebook goes behind the scenes with some of the greatest athletes, letting viewers see a glimpse into their day-to-day. Last fall, Tom Brady became the first athlete to appear on “Versus On Watch,” filming six episodes for the show.

Here Are the Countries Where the World’s Most Committed Christians Live - CBN News Lindsay Elizabeth

Here Are the Countries Where the World’s Most Committed
Christians Live
09-02-2018
CBN News Lindsay Elizabeth

Pew Research recently conducted a study on what being a Christian looks like in different countries
around the world. The study found that the most committed Christians in the world live in Africa,
Latin America, and the United States.

5 Reasons Some Christians Believe the Biblical End Times Are Upon Us

The United States came as an outlier, compared to other wealthy nations that exhibited minimal
practice and commitment.

The study showed that Christians in Africa and Latin America pray more frequently, attend religious
services routinely and hold religion in high esteem, all compared to other countries around the world.

Higher Level of Commitment

The study also discovered that Christians in the United States have a higher level of commitment to
their religion, compared to other Western countries.

Pew looked at a total of 84 countries that have the largest Christian populations, and then asked a
series of questions to individuals who self-identified as Christians.

In 35 of the 84 countries, “at least two-thirds of all Christians say religion is very important in their
lives.” Out of the 35 countries, 32 are from Africa or Latin America. The other three countries —
the United States, the Philippines and Malaysia — also said that “religion is very important in their
lives.”

A summary of the survey states that the findings demonstrate the “broader pattern of Christianity’s
‘march southward’ from wealthy countries to developing ones.”

Ethiopia was ranked number one for having the world’s most committed Christians, with 98 percent
of self-identified Christians stating their faith is very important in their daily lives. A close second
was the self-identified Christians in the Philippines with 91 percent saying their faith was important
in their lives.

In the United States, 68 percent of self-identified Christians stated that their faith was important to
their lives. This statistic is particularly significant when viewed against the response of Christians
in other Western countries: 58 percent in Greece, 30 percent in Spain, 23 percent in Italy, 12 percent
in France, 12 percent in Germany and only 11 percent in the United Kingdom said that their Christian
faith was important to their lives.

Christians and Their Daily Prayer Life

Pew also asked those surveyed about their daily prayer life.

“Christians in Africa and Latin America also tend to pray and attend church at higher rates than
Christians in most of the rest of the world. For instance, at least four out of five Christians in Nigeria,
Liberia, Senegal, Cameroon and Chad pray every day,” the report notes.

They found that prayer life in most European countries was dramatically low. It was found that less
than 10 percent of self-identified Christians in Austria, Germany, Switzerland and the UK pray daily.

Given those statistics, it shouldn’t be surprising that only less than 10 percent of Christians in nine
European counties attend church each week.

These numbers point to a declining trend in committed Christianity in wealthy Western countries,
while poorer countries around the world are seeing an increase.

5 Must-See Christian Movies Coming Out This Fall - CBN News Lindsay Elizabeth

5 Must-See Christian Movies Coming Out This Fall
08-25-2018

CBN News Lindsay Elizabeth

Faith-based films have seen wide success over the past couple of years, and the entertainment industry
is taking note, with many new faith-based films set to release this fall. The focus seems to be on
spiritual life abroad, with stories of missionary families, military life, and a well-known global
evangelist.

In March the Christian film “I Can Only Imagine” shocked many when it brought in $17.1 million
during its opening weekend, and then another $83 million in total. Another Christian film, “Paul,
Apostle of Christ,”featuring Jim Caviezel, also came out in March, placing among the top 10 films
during its opening weekend.

Netflix Says It's Working on a 'Robust Slate' of Faith-Based, Family Films

WATCH: Actor Russell Crowe Sings Classic Christian Hymn

Here is a list of five faith-based films to look out for this fall:
“GOD BLESS THE BROKEN ROAD”

This film tells the story of a young widow who struggles to keep her relationship with God after her
husband is killed in combat in Afganistan. The film was directed by “God’s Not Dead” filmmaker
Harold Cronk, and is expected to have similar success as his other films.

The movie hits theaters Sept. 7 and features stars Lindsay Pulsipher (from “True Blood), Andrew W.
Walker (from “Date With Love”), Jordin Sparks (from “Sparkle”), LaDainian “LT” Tomlinson
(an NFL Football Hall of Famer), Makenzie Moss (from “Steve Jobs”), Kim Delaney (from “Army
Wives”), and Robin Givens (from “Riverdale”).
“UNBROKEN: PATH TO REDEMPTION”

This film picks up where the last “Unbroken” movie ended. The film is based on the book written by
Laura Hillenbrand, and follows the life of Olympic gold medalist Louis “Louie” Zamperini, who
fought in World War II, and ultimately was captured as a Japanese prisoner of war.

“Unbroken: Path to Redemption,” tells the story of Zamperini’s return home and the battles he faces
after being released as a prisoner of war. The movie shows the uphill battle many service members
face when experiencing freedom at home following the perils of war.

In the movie, Zamperini goes head-to-head with his faith struggles when he attends a Billy Graham
tent revival that proves life-changing.

“PALAU: THE MOVIE”

This autobiographical film follows the life of famed evangelist Luis Palau, who lost his father at a
young age. After years of helping keep his family afloat, Palau hears one of Billy Graham’s sermons
on the radio and decides to dedicate his life to Jesus.

The film also shows various trials Palau faced as a street preacher, and what he did to overcome them.

The movie will be released in October.

“INDIVISIBLE”

This faith-based movie tells the true story of Army chaplain Darren Turner, and depicts the strain
military life can have on a family. “Indivisible” shows the importance of holding tight to your faith,
and your marriage, even when the trials seem impossible.

The cast of “Indivisible” includes “Grey’s Anatomy” stars, Sarah Drew (Chaplain Turner’s wife,
Heather Turner), Justin Bruening (Darren Turner) and Jason George (an American soldier). Sarah
Drew is not only starring in the film, but she is also an executive producer.

The movie hits theaters October 26.

“STAINES”

“Staines” is a film based off of the true story of Graham Staines, a missionary who was martyred for
his faith in Jesus Christ. The film depicts the lives of the Australian missionary and his two young
sons, who were killed in India after ministering to a Leper community in 1999.

Stephen Baldwin (“God’s Plan”) and Shari Rigby (“October Baby”) star in the movie. In an interview
with the Christian Post earlier this year, Baldwin shared that he was prompted by God to do the film.

“I know God called me to the ‘Staines’ movie,” he said, calling the movie an answer to prayer that
was “empowered by the Holy Spirit.”

No official date has been announced, but the film will premiere sometime this fall.
