How can we respond to those who hate Israel? - ONE FOR ISRAEL

SHALOM!
Chances are, if you are receiving our newsletters, that there is a place in your heart for Israel. Perhaps, like us, you may grieve at some of the troubling things in our society and the lostness of our people - but not without a heart of love and compassion. However, hatred of the Jewish state is a constant feature of our media landscape. What does God see when he looks at Israel? And how can we respond to all this?

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem—
“May those who love you be at peace!
May there be shalom within your walls—
quietness within your palaces.” (Psalm 122:6-7)

Seeking God About the Boycott of Israel

Here are some pointers for Christians who want understand why some people are boycotting Israel, and also for those who long to do something to help in this bitter and complicated conflict. Some believe that a boycott would be an effective way to exert pressure on Israel and bring an end to this limbo for the Palestinians, but the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement is not all it may seem on the surface.

Even though we long for freedom, peace and dignity for the Palestinian people, we believe that boycotting Israel is not only ineffective, but also the wrong thing to do.
The Multi-Layered Meaning of "Shalom"

Jerusalem, as Yehuda Amichai once put it, is a “port city on the shore of eternity”. It is like a portal to that which is beyond this material world, up into the heavenlies. Why? Is Jerusalem a super-spiritual city? Not in and of itself, no. God was willing to destroy it, along with his own temple more than once. But it is holy because God chose it. Like his own chosen people. God chose Jerusalem to be the geographical location from which he would redeem the world; it is the location of the death and resurrection of the Messiah. That event happened in a specific time and a specific place, but the results flow into eternity. It is also the place he is coming back to! So Jerusalem is God’s chosen city in real time and space, but the significance and effect is eternal.

"Nothing I did before repelled people... except coming to Jesus!" - ONE FOR ISRAEL

SHALOM!
There are a few shortcuts to becoming very unpopular. Choosing to follow Jesus is, in many places around the world, one of them. Even now in some Western countries, following Jesus is becoming more and more costly. But we know that our Messiah is worth everything.

"Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few." (Matthew 7:13-14)

Do All Religions Lead To God?

Isn’t it prideful of us to claim that there is only one way to God?
Don’t all paths lead to Him?

While we acknowledge the fact that there are ancient traditions and valuable studies regarding morality and integrity in every religion around the world, we believe that only through the Messiah who is promised to us in the biblical prophecies – that same Messiah whose life is described in the New Testament – can we truly know God.
It stands to reason that, if there is one God who has created one creation, He, Himself, will be the one to tell humanity what is that one way through which we can know and serve Him.
The Perfect Antidote To Bitterness

Like a gas leak, bitterness can be barely discernible at first – perhaps there’s the slight whiff of something not quite right – but if you’re not wide awake and alert, it can be fatal. It is dangerous, and a spiritually deadly trap to fall into.

Bitterness can creep up on us (or in us) like a cancer that grows undetected… but mercifully, God has given us a surefire method to deal with it.

"Suddenly, Jesus appeared on a cross..." - ONE FOR ISRAEL

SHALOM!
We have just passed through a significant time in the Jewish calendar, known as "between the straits", or times of distress. It culminated on the 9th day of the Jewish month of Av, which fell on Saturday. You can read about this remarkable day and its meaning below, but the theme of hope in hard times is one we can all relate to.

God is faithful even when we are in the depths of despair, times of distress, or the valley of death. He is our ever-present help in trouble and has appeared to people when they most needed Him. It may get dark, but we know the end of the story.

Tisha B’Av, The Jewish Day Of Mourning

Tisha B’Av means the 9th day of the Jewish month of Av, and on this day in history, the temple in Jerusalem was destroyed by the Romans. The ground was levelled, sown with salt, and rendered desolate. The pain is still strong, and Tisha B’Av is a solemn time of mourning among the Jewish people to this day. But what is weird is that the first temple was also destroyed on the 9th day of Av, and many other tragedies happened to the Jewish people on the same date. Is there anything we can understand from this unhappy coincidence? And is there anything Christians can do to bring comfort?
Archaeologists Uncover Evidence Of The Babylonian Destruction Of Jerusalem

We have well preserved evidence of the destruction that the Romans caused when they sacked Jerusalem in 70 AD, but thanks to a particular pottery design that can be identified to only a short window of time in history, we are now building a clearer picture of what happened when the Babylonians came to town.
