Are Messianic Jews different to Christians? - ONE FOR ISRAEL

SHALOM!
Perhaps you've wondered why Messianic Jews don't call themselves Christians, and reasonably so. After all, don't we believe the same thing, and aren't we are part of the same family? Why the distinction?

If you find yourself puzzled, just imagine how confusing it is for Jewish people who come to realize that Jesus was the Jewish Messiah all along! What does that make them? Are they no longer Jewish? Or are Christians the new Israel in some meaning of the word? The way we understand our identity as believers is crucial to the way we live out our lives, and liberates us to become united as One New Man in Messiah.

Messianic Jewish Identity
It's not always easy explaining to those that do not understand or perhaps do not want to that there is nothing more Jewish than believing in Jesus the Jewish Messiah.

For 2000 years we've been a bit of an oddity. On the one hand, Jewish tradition has rejected and excluded Jews who believe in Jesus. On the other hand, Christians also misunderstand us and our struggle with our Jewish identity.

Before we deal with what it means to be a believer and in particular a Jewish believer we must first answer the question: What does it mean to be Jewish?
Why Don't Many Jewish People Accept Jesus as Messiah?

It can be bewildering considering that Yeshua the Messiah was an Israeli-born Jew, grew up in a Jewish community, practiced Jewish laws and customs, worshiped God at the Jewish Temple, his original followers were Jewish, and that all of his teaching was based upon and rooted in the Jewish Scripture that so many Jewish people find him incompatible with Judaism… So why do we often hear today that “Jews don’t believe in Jesus”?
"The spiral of devastation got the best of me. Losing my identity in worldly treasures is ultimately what helped me find my identity in God!"
I was lost to a spiral of devastation. I found a new identity in my messiah!

Just like the Bible said would happen - ONE FOR ISRAEL

SHALOM!
Anti-Semitism is increasing around the world, just as we are told to expect in the Scriptures. As this age draws to a close, we are told that the nations will turn against Israel, and that Jerusalem will become a stumbling block to the peoples.

Instead of being afraid or hostile towards those who rage against Israel, it's important for us to know how to explain the truth about God's heart and plans for his people and his land.

Why did God choose Israel?
The very idea that God could choose the people of Israel over all the others offends sensibilities and can be hard to swallow. Both Jew and Gentile alike have been known to puzzle at this apparent favouritism. How are to we believe that God is just and loves everyone, but at the same time “sets his affection” on one people group in particular? And how are we supposed align ourselves with this way of thinking?
Did God Replace Israel? Prof. Mishkin Debunks "Replacement Theology"!
Grafted In

If anyone has been converted from one thing to another, it is Gentiles who have been converted to the Jewish faith in the God of Israel. They have adopted the Jewish holy Scriptures, the Jewish understanding of God and his ways, and have been accepted and saved by the Jewish Messiah. It is Gentiles who have left paganism with false ideas of God (or gods) into the truth about the One Living God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob who made heaven and earth, as revealed in the Jewish Scriptures.

The book of Romans likens this Gentile “conversion” to the agricultural grafting process:

“And you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root of the olive tree… remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you.” (11:17-18)

It makes no sense to talk of a Jewish person being converted. It has been their faith all along, if you believe that Yeshua is the Messiah spoken of in the Hebrew Scriptures. The faith is rooted in Judaism. When a Jewish person accepts Yeshua they have a fuller understanding of their own faith, not somebody else’s. And that is what we in ONE FOR ISRAEL are seeking to see.
Jesus a Palestinian?!

Palestinian activist, Linda Sarsour, might have made big waves by saying that Jesus was a Palestinian, but the claim isn’t new.

The assertion is made as a way of trying to separate Jesus from the people of Israel and his Jewish identity. It tries to recast Jesus as a political freedom fighter who would stand against the nation of Israel, rather than the Messiah of Israel who came to take away the sin of the world.
