A Sure Way to Gain Access to God's Ear

Waiting isn't a curse. It's a blessing. Patience is a gift from God. Your life would be so much more joyful if you learned how to wait with patience. King David said in Psalm 40:1-4:

I waited patiently for the Lord, and He turned to me, and heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet on a rock, and established my steps. He has put a new song in my mouth, even praise to our God; many will see it, and fear, and will trust in the Lord. Blessed is the man who places trust in the Lord.

Earlier he said: "Wait on the Lord; be strong, and may your heart be stout; wait on the Lord" (Ps. 27:14).

When you wait patiently on the Lord, you gain access to His ear. God hears the prayers of those who wait patiently for Him. When you wait on the Lord, He will come to your rescue. He will deliver you to safety. When you wait patiently on the Lord, your worship will go to a whole new level. When you wait patiently on the Lord, people will see what He has done for you. Your time of waiting will turn into a testimony, and all who witness your deliverance will come to fear and trust in the Lord. When you wait patiently on the Lord, you will be blessed, and your heart will be strengthened. Your patient waiting shows God that you trust Him with your whole life, and He rewards faith like that in big ways. Listen, you can't tell me that waiting on God isn't worth it.

Prepare your heart to begin to wait knowing that God is going to take care of you. Get ready to understand what it really means to trust God with your when.

As I have said before, we are all in the same boat when it comes to waiting. We all need something. We can also be in the same boat of victory, if we learn that waiting is always worth it. read more

What This Woman's Encounter With an Angel Can Teach Us About Trusting God

She stood there alone, in awe, scared enough to run but unable to flee his presence. He had called himself a messenger from God and greeted her by saying, "Favored woman, God is with you." But it was all so confusing. "God is with me?" she asked herself. "What does that mean?"

She was still trying to comprehend the angel's words when he spoke again: "Don't be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God!" (see Luke 1:30). Now she was both confused and disturbed. How did he know her name? Did he know her family too? Did he know she was engaged to Joseph? What could he possibly want?

As if he could hear the anxious thoughts racing through Mary's mind, the angel Gabriel began to explain the reason for his visit (see Luke 1:31-33).

She would have a son who would receive the throne of David and reign forever? It didn't make sense. "But how can this happen?" she asked. "I am a virgin" (see v. 34). The angel's reply is found in Luke 1:35-37.

After that we hear no more objections from Mary. No more questions. She believed every word the angel spoke. Her greatest desire was to be part of God's divine plan, and she believed God was giving her that chance. So with a calm confidence she told the angel, "I am the Lord's servant. May everything you have said about me come true" (see Luke 1:38). I Like the way her statement reads in the New King James Version: "Let it be to me according to your word."

It was unthinkable that Mary would respond with such trust. Nothing had changed in her situation. She was still a virgin. She was still unmarried. But instead of telling the angel all the reasons what he was saying was impossible, she chose to say yes to the unknown. read more

The Key to Making It Through Your Hard Season of Waiting

(Unsplash/Vidar Nordli-Mathisen)
Waiting is so hard! But in one way or another, we are all waiting. Whether we seem to have it all or have the weight of the world on our shoulders, we're all waiting for something—waiting for change, waiting for answers, waiting for healing, waiting for things to get better. No matter how good life gets, every human being—rich or poor—will always need something.

I believe one of the reasons so many people give up and lose hope while waiting on God is because they feel that where they are right now is going to be forever. Don't fall into that trap. This waiting season is only temporary. As you are standing between your prayer and the receipt of your answer, remember this: your blessing is worth the wait. Instead of quitting, you should take on the attitude of a winner and keep believing. Hope against hope as Abraham did when God promised him he would be the father of many nations (Rom. 4:18-22). It took 25 years for his promised child to arrive, but God brought the blessing into Abraham's life in His perfect timing.

What if you are just one step away from your promised miracle? I saw a photo some time ago that showed a man digging through a cave. The image revealed that just on the other side of the rocky wall he was digging through was a big pot of gold. The man took one last swing and then gave up, but if he had taken just one more swing, he would have reached his treasure.

This image teaches us a lesson. Sometimes when we feel as if we have been waiting forever, we quit, and we miss out on our treasure. Don't miss your blessing because you choose to give up. Be the one who is able to testify that you waited on God's perfect timing, and the Lord brought forth your blessing right on time. read more

How to Know When It's Time to Move Past Your Grief

(Unsplash/Matthew Henry)
When I was 14 years old, my friends were going on a ski trip, but I was unable to join them. The upcoming trip was the main topic of conversation for weeks before they departed. I was terribly sad when they left, knowing they were making memories I'd never be a part of. There was that sick feeling in my stomach that happens to me when I am missing out on something. Oh, how I wanted that feeling to fly away as quickly as possible. When my friends returned, the same thing happened as before they left. They reminisced about all the fun times—and reminisced and reminisced.

An idea came: I picked a date and circled it on a calendar hanging next to my bed. Until that date arrived, I'd allow myself to feel the sadness and pain. Once the circled date came, I would move pass those feelings. There was no science or method to choosing the particular date. I prayed and then selected a date on the calendar that felt right. Instead of masking the pain, I gave myself the freedom to fully feel the sadness during that time. Like many people, I often try to suppress the sadness I feel. We try to make the hurt go away by rushing through the healing process. Shoving the emotions down so they won't surface is common among the best of people.

The experience of missing "a trip of a lifetime" with my friends was simply learning ground, a preparation for significantly more difficult experiences facing me later in my life. I might have lost the fun of skiing and fellowship, but I gained much more than I lost. Ahead were to come:
  • Three painful miscarriages
  • Heavy empathetic emotions watching my beloved Terry go through emotional and physical pain during a battle with cancer at age 21.
  • The loss of my dad (my best friend) to pancreatic cancer right after I got married.
