Matt and Laurie Crouch: TBN's Brand-New Show Encourages Women in a Way 'The View' Won't

Victoria Osteen, Laurie Crouch and Christine Caine film a segment for TBN's "Better Together." (Facebook/Better Together TV)
Matt and Laurie Crouch are making some huge changes at TBN—the largest Christian television network in the world—since they took over from Matt's late parents several years ago. Next week TBN launches the first daily TV program made by women for women. I invited the Crouches onto my "Strang Report" podcast to talk about their new endeavor called Better Together that will launch April 22 at 10:30 a.m. PT. From what they told me, this show offers Christian women a type of encouragement and ministry they won't find on any other women's TV programs. (You can listen to the interview here or scroll to the end of the article.)

I've known Matt and Laurie since around the time they got married in 1985. We've traveled the world together and supported each other in ministry for years. So I was excited to interview them about their new, much-needed program.

"We started thinking about how, quite frankly, underserved the female audience is on Christian television," Matt tells me. "We have dynamic people like Joyce Meyer, Beth Moore and others, but as far as having regular programming on our network, Trinity Broadcasting, we wanted to change that. So about a year ago, we started dealing with set people—decorators, producers, all sorts of different people it takes to make a TV program."

Their goal is to create an atmosphere where women can have an authentic conversation about life and faith. Matt and Laurie have noticed throughout the years that whenever they attend a large dinner party, the women invariably congregate toward one end of the table and the men then go to the other end. Matt says that by the time the men sit down, the women are usually deep in conversation, fully engaged with each other. That's the dynamic the Crouches want for their new show.

"We [want to] basically create an atmosphere where women could sit facing each other—in our case that's a circle—and they could have genuine dialog," Matt says.

To do so, the Crouches hide small, high-quality, remote-controlled cameras around the set. They then roll the doors to the set closed so all the women are facing each other without the interruption of cameramen and cue cards. With women like Christine Caine, Victoria Osteen, Lisa Harper, Lisa Bevere, Holly Wagner, DeeDee Freeman, Jen Johnson and others, the conversation is ... read more

Jim Bakker Shares New Details of Time in Prison: 'Great Hands Picked Me Up in My Cell' - Steve Strang

Jim Bakker Shares New Details of Time in Prison: 'Great Hands Picked Me Up in My Cell'

I interviewed Jim Bakker about his time in prison and eventual restoration.
Last week, I wrote about part 1 of my in-depth interview with Jim Bakker, where he shared fascinating stories about his early work in revival preaching and Christian television. Today I want to share with you part 2, in which Bakker shares new details about his downfall and time in prison as well as his eventual restoration. (Click here or scroll to the end of this article to listen to part 2 of our interview in its entirety.)

Bakker told me he never does these kinds of interviews because the leftist media repeatedly misrepresents him. But since we've been friends for so long, Bakker knew he could trust me with his personal stories. He tells me that his days in prison were some of the hardest moments of his life, and he remembers one wintry night in particular when his depression overwhelmed him.

"I thought I couldn't go on," Bakker says. "And all of the sudden, it was like hands—great hands—had picked me up, and I was floating in my bunk bed in that prison cell. And I said, 'God, what's happening?' ... He said, 'This is the prayers of the people.' And I know I would have never made it through prison without the prayers of the people."

Many of you may remember the scandal surrounding Bakker's arrest in 1988 for wire fraud. Later, news came out about an affair Bakker had with a church secretary. As a result, he lost Praise the Lord (PTL) Ministries and his resort, Heritage USA.

I remember when PTL and Heritage USA closed. I was heartbroken because not only had I benefited from those ministries, but I knew many others who had been as well.

"I never dealt with that—the pain of losing [those ministries] and what happened to me and what happened to it," Bakker told me during our interview. "I still don't know why [all that happened.] I do know it all worked together for good because I studied in the prison. I studied Revelation one word ... read more

'Charisma' Celebrates 500 Issues of Igniting Readers for Spirit-Led Living - Steve Strang, Charisma

'Charisma' Celebrates 500 Issues of Igniting Readers for Spirit-Led Living

"Charisma" issue No. 1 and issue No. 500
Would you believe it if I told you Charisma published 500 issues? I was shocked when I realized that the March issue of Charisma was our 500th. To celebrate, our publisher and vice president of the Charisma Media Group, Dr. Steve Greene, interviewed me on my "Strang Report" podcast. We discussed Charisma's beginnings and how God grew it from a small publication to the leading charismatic magazine it is today. You can listen to our entire conversation by clicking here or clicking the podcast at the end of this article.

Some of you may have heard Charisma's genesis story before. I've shared many times how as a Pentecostal journalist, I had a desire to publish a magazine that reported on what the Holy Spirit was doing in our nation and around the world. I had the chance to write a story on healing evangelist Kathryn Kuhlman for the Orlando Sentinel, a newspaper in central Florida. But I wanted to do more.

So in 1975, I founded a small charismatic magazine at a Florida megachurch. This was at the height of the Jesus Movement, when revivals were sweeping the U.S. and even traditional denominations were experiencing the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Our first issue was 32 pages, and I wrote the cover story on Thurlow Spurr, a Spirit-filled musician whose songs touched many. Two months later, our second issue featured Kathryn Kuhlman and the incredible healing miracles that characterized her ministry. That issue came out shortly before she died.

For the first year, I kept working at the Orlando Sentinel and published Charisma on the side. During that time, we printed 10,000 copies for about 420 subscribers. But I knew I had to commit my full attention to Charisma if I wanted to see it grow as I envisioned. So after that first year, I quit my job. The truth is that I didn't have a desire to succeed as much as I had a desire not to fail.

And yet sometimes you can succeed by just not giving up. Because Charisma started in the midst of a charismatic revival, there were plenty of other Christian magazines around. I remember one gentleman who approached me to ask why I founded Charisma when there were already several magazines like it. Though rude, his comment stuck in my mind because all three of the Christian publications he mentioned by name are no longer active. Charismais the only magazine of its kind that has stood the test of time. In fact, Charisma absorbed one of those Christian magazines, Christian Life, in 1986. Robert Walker founded that magazine back in 1939, and I admired him greatly. In fact, I have an entire room in our headquarters dedicated to his honor.

When I founded Charisma, my goal was merely to write articles about what the Lord was doing, and a church magazine seemed like a good way to do it. But now, our vision has grown in scope and specificity. As a multimedia company, we aim to inspire people to radically change their world through the Spirit's power. And as technology has advanced over the last 40-plus years, ... read more

Sid Roth: End-Times Outpouring of Glory Will Change Face of Christianity in My Lifetime - Steve Strang

Sid Roth: End-Times Outpouring of Glory Will Change Face of Christianity in My Lifetime

(Facebook/Sid Roth's It's Supernatural)
Imagine the glory of God so strong in Israel that thousands will come to Jesus just by proclaiming the simple gospel. Imagine scores of unbelievers receiving supernatural healing and seeing the manifest presence of God. This same thing will happen in America, according to Sid Roth of Sid Roth's It's Supernatural. And when that happens, it will be in direct fulfillment of Smith Wigglesworth's prophecy that the final outpouring of glory would be 1,000 times greater than anything he had ever seen. The power of this final outpouring will surpass even Pentecost.

In an exclusive interview, I asked Sid about this move of glory, what it will look like, when it will come and how it will affect Christianity as we know it. (Be sure to listen to the entire interview by clicking on my "Strang Report" podcast at the end of this article.)

"There have been many prophecies by great men and women of God about the last great move of God's Spirit, and their descriptions are the manifest glory of God," Sid tells me. "One that comes to mind is Smith Wigglesworth. ... He said he saw the end-times move of God's Spirit. ... This man, Smith Wigglesworth, saw every miracle Jesus did multiple times. He said the glory he saw was 1,000 times stronger than anything he had ever witnessed in his life."

This glory will change the face of Christianity, Sid says. He cites the prophecies the late prophet Paul Cain often gave to crowds of people in stadiums. He says Cain often described this end-times glory.

"[Cain] said he saw dead people coming to life in these great gatherings, and that's coming soon—very soon," Sid says. "The glory of God will change the face of Christianity. The glory of God will cause the average Christian—who by the way is hungry for and is seeking God and knows the glory of God will be the great divider. It's going to be that either you're going to go with God or against God. And it's going to be very dangerous for the Christian who is in sin."

But this glory won't just fall on Christians, Sid tells me. Israel will experience a great revival on account of this end-times outpouring. He says Christians who have been reaching out to Jews for years with little success will ... read more

What a glorious time it will be. Israelites will get saved by the thousands. Hosts of supernatural healings will project evidence of the manifest presence of God.
"It's Supernatural" host Sid Roth says this is will happen in America, too, in direct fulfillment of Smith Wigglesworth's prophecy of the final outpouring of God's glory. And, it will be 1,000 times greater than anything the world has ever seen.

How the Church Is Final Force Resisting Rise of Antichrist, One-World Government - Steve Strang

How the Church Is Final Force Resisting Rise of Antichrist, One-World Government

It's no secret the United States is steadily losing its biblical base. Just look at how many Americans rejoiced in New York's recent ungodly law legalizing abortion up until the day of birth. The more our nation loses its God-honoring element, the closer it draws to spiritual death—and the only force resisting this downward spiral is the church, says preacher Dr. Rodney Howard-Browne.

But this isn't a recent trend. Howard-Browne says the demise of America started in 1877 with a man named Cecil John Rhodes, a lifetime member of the Masonic Order. Rhodes wanted to form a secret society with one goal: to bring the whole world under the control of the British empire, establishing a one-world government. Since then, a strong and single-focused institution has infiltrated American society, and it has everything to do with money.

As a Pentecostal, Howard-Browne is convinced this new world order plays a crucial role in the end-times events prophesied in the Bible. Like many other Bible-believing Christians, Howard-Browne sees this desired globalist system as a prime setup for the Antichrist to arise.

"But I do believe Jesus said, 'When I come back, will I find faith on the earth?'" Howard-Browne says. "And He said, 'Occupy till I come,' so I believe the only restraining order or force in the earth today is the church. We are the ones who stand up, and light overcomes the darkness."

In his latest book, The Killing of Uncle Sam: The Demise of the United States, Howard-Browne dissects the corruption in America's private central banks, which have long gone unchecked. This book is not simply another essay about why globalization is wrong. On the contrary, I was impressed with the writing quality of Howard-Browne's book—which almost reads like a novel—and his more than 1,000 footnotes that allow readers to investigate the issues for themselves.

"The reason we put this book together was so we could educate people as to what ... read more
