"Elijah, Jehu and the War Against Jezebel"

There is a war, a very ancient war, between the spirit of Elijah and the spirit of Jezebel. In this age-old battle, Elijah represents the interests of Heaven: the call to repentance and the return to God. Jezebel, on the other hand, represents that unique principality whose purpose is to hinder the deep work of God in the Church.

To the Victor Goes the Nation

To understand the conflict between the Elijah spirit and the spirit of Jezebel, we must understand these two adversaries as they are seen in the Scriptures. Each is the spiritual counterpart of the other. Is Elijah bold? Jezebel is brazen. Is Elijah ruthless toward evil? Jezebel is vicious toward righteousness. Does Elijah speak of the ways and words of God? Jezebel is full of systems of witchcraft and words of deceit. The war between Elijah and Jezebel continues today. The chief warriors on either side are the prophets of both foes; to the victor goes the soul of our nation.

In the tradition of Samuel, Elijah was the head of the school of prophets. Under him were the "sons of the prophets" – literally hundreds of prophetic minstrels – who proclaimed the Word of the Lord in song. In this war, however, Jezebel had viciously and systematically murdered nearly all of God's servants until it appeared only Elijah remained (see 1 Kings 18:22). Elijah, as the last of the prophets, then challenged the 450 prophets of Baal and the 400 prophets of the Asherah to a demonstration of power: their gods against the power of the Lord.

These 850 men were the false prophets, the satanic priests "at Jezebel's table" (1 Kings 18:19). They were the most powerful, demonized individuals that the hosts of darkness could produce. King Ahab, Jezebel's husband, sent a message out to "all the sons of Israel" (v. 20), and the nation came to witness the battle between the God of Elijah and the demons of Jezebel.

The terms of the challenge were simple: each was to place an ox upon an altar. Elijah then said, "You call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the Lord, and the God who answers by fire, He is God" (v. 24). Six hours later the cult priests still could produce no fire; twelve hours passed and Elijah began to mock them: "Call out [to Baal] with a loud voice...perhaps he is asleep and needs to be awakened" (v. 27). Then, just before evening, Elijah prayed over his sacrifice and "the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt offering" (v. 38). The Bible says that "when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces and said, 'The Lord, He is God; the Lord, He is God'" (v. 39). We would suppose that, at this point, Elijah would have asked God to finish off Jezebel, but he did not. In fact – and this may surprise you – Elijah came under spiritual warfare. When Jezebel heard what had happened to her servants, she released a flood of demonic power against Elijah, and he fled in fear.

You may ask, "How could such a mighty prophet turn and run?" The answer is not simple. In fact, the situation worsened. We next see Elijah sitting under a juniper tree, bewailing that he is no better than his fathers – actually praying that he might die! (See 1 Kings 19:4.) What pressure overwhelmed this great man of God that he would fall prey to fear and discouragement? He succumbed to the witchcraft of Jezebel.

And now, let the reader understand: when you stand against the spirit of Jezebel, even though you resist her lusts and witchcrafts, you must guard against the power-demons of fear and discouragement, for these she will send against you to keep you from your victory!

The Drama Continues...

It is a mystery, but the Bible tells us that under certain circumstances the Holy Spirit will transfer the anointing of one to function through another. We read that a double portion of the spirit of Elijah ministered through his successor, Elisha (see 2 Kings 2:9-11). When John the Baptist came forth, he came "as a forerunner before [the Lord] in the spirit and power of Elijah" (Luke 1:17). Jesus said of the Baptist, "John himself is Elijah who was to come"(Matt. 11:14, see also 17:11-13).

The spiritual influence of Elijah had returned to the world in the ministry of John the Baptist. Like Elijah, John proclaimed the need for repentance. One such area was in the adulterous lives of King Herod and his wife Herodias. When John confronted them, Herodias had him imprisoned (Mark 6:17-18).

Who was this manipulating and working through the dark, psychic side of Herodias? As Elijah's spirit ministered through John, so Jezebel had resurfaced through the rebellion of the seductress, Herodias. Remember, through Jezebel's many witchcrafts (2 Kings 9:22), she attacked Elijah, causing fear and discouragement, which led to Elijah's time of self-doubt and confusion. Now Herodias had come forcibly against John the Baptist. This is the prophet who had visibly seen the Spirit descend upon Christ; he heard the Father's audible voice announcing His beloved Son; he gazed with awe upon the purity of Israel's Messiah. Now fear and discouragement are weighing upon the prophet's shoulders. Doubt floods his soul about Christ: "Are You the Expected One, or shall we look for someone else?" (Matt. 11:3).

"A strategic day came when Herod...gave a banquet" (Mark 6:21). "Strategic" is the perfect word to describe the timing of this event. For Herodias had her daughter dance before Herod, enticing out of him a promise to give whatever she asked. At her mother's request – more truly, at Jezebel's request – she demanded and received the head of the Baptist. And temporarily, the confrontation between the spirits of these enemies subsided.

Elijah is Coming!

Two thousand years ago, Jesus stated that the ministry of Elijah was not over. He promised, "Elijah is coming and will restore all things" (Matt. 17:11). Also, Malachi the prophet wrote, "Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord. He will restore..." (Mal. 4:5-6). Elijah is coming to war and restore. He came before the great day, and he is returning before the terrible day of the Lord.

Let it also be known that if Elijah is coming before Jesus returns, so we shall also see the manifestation of Jezebel in the world. Do you not discern her in our land in the abundance of witchcraft and harlotries? Do you not hear her brazen voice rejecting God's authority? Have you not, with shame, beheld her working as she caused God's "bond-servants" to "commit acts of immorality" (Rev. 2:20)? Seeing Jezebel so blatantly manifest herself only confirms that the spirit of Elijah is also here bringing repentance and raising up warring prophets throughout our land.

Not a Time of Peace

In the Old Testament we see how God destroyed Jezebel. Jehu, the newly crowned king of Israel, was sent by the word of the Lord through Elijah's successor, Elisha, to fulfill God's promise. As Jehu and his men furiously drove their chariots toward Jezreel, the kings of Israel and Judah came out to meet him. They asked, "'Is it peace, Jehu?' And he answered, 'What peace, so long as the harlotries of your mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?'" (2 Kings 9:22). And Jehu slew the two kings. The Word tells us that when she saw him, "she put paint on her eyes and adorned her head..." and looking out an upper window, she called to him, "'...Is it peace, Zimri, murderer of your master?' And he looked up at the window and said, 'Who is on my side? Who?' So two or three eunuchs looked out at him. Then he said, 'Throw her down.' So they threw her down, and some of her blood splattered on the wall and on the horses; and he trampled her underfoot" (2 Kings 9:30-33 NKJV).

There was something in Jehu's spirit that we must possess today. While we must be compassionate toward those captured by her wiles (see Rev. 2:21), we must show no mercy to the Jezebel spirit itself. Jehu offered Jezebel no compromise whatsoever. So we must offer this demon no opportunity to probe our soul and unlock vulnerabilities to her "many witchcrafts." She must be cast down from her high place of influence in our minds, that we may truly follow Christ (see Luke 10:19; Rom. 16:20).

There can be no peace, no relaxing under our "fig tree" until the spirit of Jezebel is overcome and as long as her harlotries and witchcrafts are so many in our land. We must refuse to settle for a false peace based on compromise and fear, for the Spirit of God is calling for war!

It is significant that the eunuchs cast her down. Some who are reading this have become slaves to this evil spirit. Today God is giving you the privilege of participating in His judgment against Jezebel. You cast her down from your imagination! Side with God and let the deliverance of God come forth!

Let's pray: Heavenly Father, I submit my heart to You. In the name of Jesus Christ, I resist the spirit of Jezebel. As a servant of Jesus Christ, I release those who have been Jezebel's captives, even those who have become open to immorality through the internet or illicit relationships. I speak to Jezebel's slaves: If you are truly on the Lord's side, then cast down your sympathetic thoughts toward this cruel master! Renounce her evil imaginations from your mind! In the power of Jesus' name, I release you from her psychic grip upon your soul. In the authority of the living Christ! Amen.

"In this Season of Unprecedented, Expect the Unexpected"

"Game, Set and Match!"

I recently had a vision of a tennis match being played. For those of you who know the rules and terms of tennis, the game had been played for 5 sets; it was a very long game. The game was up to match point and it had been going between deuce and advantage for the longest time.

(Match point is when the player who is winning will win the match if they get the next point. Deuce is when the score is tied at 40-40 or higher and either player simply needs to win by two to conclude the game. Advantage scoring refers to the side which wins the next point after deuce – it is said to have the advantage. "Game, set and match" is declared when the match has a winner.)

Prophetically, this picture was speaking of the threshold place where we stand before a breakthrough, when it seems like we are about to breakthrough, only to experience yet another delay or back step. Sometimes this can go on for years.

Many have been back and forth from "deuce" to "advantage" like in the tennis match; they have felt frustrated and weary because the game has just been so long. But the Lord, by the wind of His Spirit and by His strong arm of victory, has come in and is saying that this is the last play, and it's pushing you over from advantage into VICTORY! I hear the decree of Heaven resounding like a trumpet, "GAME, SET AND MATCH!"

Uprooting Impenetrable Strongholds

The Lord often uses everyday examples in my life as a metaphorical, prophetic allegory to prophesy what He is doing with His people in certain seasons. So a few days ago, I was sitting on my back porch, having my morning coffee, and time with the Lord in prayer, and my attention was fixed on my back garden. I heard the Lord say, "It's time to weed this garden." (When I hear Him like this I know I am in for a prophetic lesson.) (Photo via Unsplash)

The next day my daughter Anastasia came to me and said, "Mum, I want to spend some time with you." I said, "OK, so what do you want to do?" thinking she would suggest coloring, or something to that effect. But to my surprise she blurted out, "I want to do some weeding!" Shocked, I looked at her and said, "Sure, let's do this!" I knew God was all over this. The Lord often uses her in my life to align with decrees of Heaven in seasons, and this time was no different.

So we began to clean up the garden. Now there is something you must understand about my garden. We have lived in this particular house for just over 8 years. The entire time we had lived here, and up until this point, there was a certain vine weed that we had never been able to get rid of. Its roots were very deep and very strong, too strong to pull out by hand. It was a nightmare with strangling other plants in the garden and grew so fast and spread roots to other areas of the garden. We hadn't sprayed this weed because we did not want to kill off all our other beautiful plants, so we just maintained it by cutting it back, etc. (I'm not a green thumb or expert gardener by the way, so this just seemed to be the only thing to do at the time.)

This time was different. I actually heard the Lord say, "Anita, pull it up from its roots. This time it will come out."Now, we had an unusual amount of rain this last winter, and the rain had moistened the ground. So away I went. I had to search and discover the roots of these particular weed because the vine just grew everywhere – I had to trace it to the root. I started with with a little bit of elbow grease, and with some effort, it came out by the root!

I was elated! For 8 years this had not been possible. The Lord began to say to me, "Anita, now is the season where I am raining My presence on My people's lives, saturating their hearts, softening hard ground where strongholds have laid for long periods and, in some cases, for generations. But now is the time that those strongholds are coming up by the root; those things My people have not been able to get victory over or have had in their lives as a hindrance, trying to choke off their destiny and calling and intimacy with Me – I am causing them to come out by the roots!"

A Season of Manifesting the "Unprecedented"

For a few weeks now I've been hearing the word "UNPRECEDENTED." The Lord has been showing me we are now entering the season of achieving and going beyond things which have not yet been accomplished or discovered.

This season marks a new beginning (8 being the number of new beginnings); a new era of unprecedented breakthrough, unprecedented victory, unprecedented miracles, unprecedented favor. Whatever you have been believing Him for, put "unprecedented" before it and see Him take you exceedingly above and beyond all you could imagine, ask or think!

The Lord is equipping His people with power to inherit and possess all that He has promised them in unprecedented fashions.

Expect the Unexpected!

The Lord says, "In this season of 'UNPRECEDENTED,' expect the unexpected. Expect the unexpected, unprecedented strategy to take the land. Expect the unexpected, unprecedented solution to the problem. Expect the unexpected, unprecedented direction to possess and inherit. Expect the unexpected people to come along side you and be key in partnering with you in your breakthrough. Expect the unexpected locations of birthing. Expect the unexpected, unprecedented miracles to manifest right before your eyes."

In order to expect the unexpected according to Isaiah 43:18-19 you must forget the "old way" and you must have "new eyes to see."

The Lord is birthing your breakthrough in a "new way" just as, in the same way, He told the children of Israel to leave space between the ark of the covenant and themselves when they were crossing over, because they had "never gone this way before" (see Joshua 3:4).

We must understand that in order to inherit and go into the land to possess it, this can not be done with old strategies. It must be done with new ones. And we must have fresh eyes to recognize and perceive the new thing, otherwise, we will stay and perish in the old.

Today the Lord says, "Open your eyes and open your ears to the new and unexpected, and watch Me move on your behalf in unprecedented proportions and measures of My Spirit." (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

"Get Ready for the Remarkable Roaring 20s!"

As we prepare to finish well throughout the rest of 2019, Holy Spirit has been speaking to me about the age to come. Since the number 9 is the largest single digit in our numerical system and is identified as a number of completed cycles or fullness, we can't help but anticipate more full-circle moments at the threshold of our leap over into the 2020s.

Our experience-based navigation process, moving us beyond our current paradigms to enter into the reality of greater revelatory capacity for what lies ahead, has positionally prepared us to understand, perceive, and discern a more precise and accurate prophetic blueprint through the year 2020 and beyond.

Transition and full-circle moments oftentimes go hand-in-hand when God repositions His Church to fulfill her intended destiny. What God accomplished through His Spirit in the Upper Room, on the day of Pentecost, is just a glimpse of how we'll taste and see that the Lord is good as we transition into this new era, with hearts ready and yielded to what God has in store (Psalm 34:8)!

The year 2020 will prove to be a year of apprehending the perfections of the Holy Spirit through the 7 spirits of God for the Body of Christ, and for the world to see beyond our current measure of understanding (Luke 11:2-3, Revelation 5:6; 4:5).

Not only will our vision improve with breadth of view as the seer anointing polishes our eyes afresh with new eye salve, but our sight and sounds will merge together to form a move of God to awaken the planet in the most unusual of ways.

The Rainbow of God's Promise is Stretching Beyond Our Imaginations

A revolutionary move for the 7 Mountains of influence holds the keys for impacting society with the heart of God as marketplace ministry explodes around the globe. What's been accomplished in previous years for the Kingdom through targeted spheres of influence, will double in its capacity with a cause and effect outcome.

An Isaiah 55:5 promise from the Spirit of God will anoint an Esther generation with multiplied influence and radical favor for drawing the most "colorful" prospects into the Kingdom. The rainbow of God's promise is stretching beyond our own imaginations and will touch an unexpected people group with His love and power in the coming ages. (Photo via Unsplash)

The year 2020 might roar through like a lion releasing its identifiable roar, but this new and remarkable era will certainly hold the earmarks of a contemporary "Nazarite Company" who seeks, prays, and consecrates themselves to our Creator God (Numbers 6:8, Acts 18:18, Numbers 6:1-21).

Set Up for Success

God is in the business of being faithful to complete what He started according to His times and seasons in the earth realm. When Joshua passed over the threshold of transition after the death of Moses in Joshua chapter 1, God promised Joshua that dominion was his wherever the soles of his feet found a place to occupy or step upon (Joshua 1:1-3). God had equipped Joshua for his journey and for his assignment long before Joshua pioneered the Promised Land, with the Israelites following behind him.

As with us, the Spirit of God has positioned His people and His Church to herald a move of His presence, ready and waiting to unfold as we transition into a new era that promises not to disappoint. When we make room for Holy Spirit to shock and captivate us with His presence, nothing is impossible for him who believes!

"And now I'm doing it to you: You'll summon nations you've never heard of, and nations who've never heard of you will come running to you Because of Me, your God, because The Holy of Israel has honored you." (Isaiah 55:5)

Our crossover from the days of transition is inevitable as our yearning for a fresh move of God postures us for the open doors before us. The things we learned and experienced in our previous seasons were shaping and refining mechanisms preparing our hearts and the Church for her finest hour.

The Spirit of the Lord has set us up for success! As we move through our assigned spheres of influence as salt and light upon the earth for all to see, the greatest show on Earth is ready to unfold as God demonstrates His majesty and power. The systems of Baal might confess to have the upper hand in all spheres of society, however, the fire of God is separating the precious from the vile for a showdown certain to quicken the heart of every eye witnessing the scene.

Prepare your heart for more "shock and awe" moments throughout the roaring 20s! God is in the midst of us as an ever-present help in times of need (Psalm 46:5).

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."(Jeremiah 29:11)

A Year of Turning Points and Fresh Starts

Recently I heard Holy Spirit say that the year 2020 would be "a year of turning points and fresh starts."According to Strong's dictionary, the Greek word for the number 2020 is "epiphosko," which means "to let shine, to dawn, or to grow light." Epiphosko is linked Scripturally to Matthew 28:1, where Mary Magdalene and the "other Mary" visited the tomb of Jesus after His resurrection.

"Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb."(Matthew 28:1)

The word "new" in Matthew 28:1 means a promised turning point or fresh start! A turning point can be described as a critical juncture, a point in which decisive change takes place, or a turn of affairs occurring for better or worse, according to the plans and purposes of God (Isaiah 55:8-9).

A turning point most often transpires when the decision-making process comes to its highest peak for advocating change. God used turning points in the lives of His people to shift them spiritually, positionally, and governmentally so as to demonstrate His heart for the advancing of destines, nations and kingdoms. The greatest turning point in Scripture was the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the grave for the saving of a generation in a lost and darkened world (Matthew 28:6).

The year 2020 will be alive with turning points orchestrated by the hand of the Lord! Resurrection power will continue to rattle dry bones back to life as an Ezekiel army awakens the Bride of Christ with the wind of God in their sails. While the watchman anointing heralds its sound on behalf of the coming King, the earth will continue to shake with the anticipated expectation of the Millennial sons and daughters of God to appear. (Photo via Pixabay)

An hour of greater power is upon us! Fresh starts are in queue for the Body of Christ after having contended through seasons of the stripping away of the flesh. The horizon is filled with promise! The Sights and Sounds of the 20s

I've had several dreams recently about the sounds ready to emerge from the 20s. Without a doubt we can anticipate a stark shift in our social and political atmospheres as an Esther generation pioneers a fresh sound for defeating the spirit of Haman (Esther 7). God has not only chosen men and women with greater authority and power to give voice to what our culture requires we hear, but He has chosen a remnant for wielding the scepter of His favor into spaces and places resistant to the voice of God in their midst.

Not only will the Church arise in the throws of what Scripture calls the darkened days before the coming of the great and glorious Day of the Lord (Acts 2:20), but the saints of God, carrying a holy and audible groan for a genuine move of the Spirit, will break open the wells of long-awaited revival with a sound responsive to Heaven's ears (Acts 7:34).

This sound is no ordinary sound in the spirit. It's a sound quickening the heart of the Father in this hour, labeled as an emergence of prophetic and prolific voices for a harmonious move of His Spirit! The fruit from this new emergence of sound is beginning to erupt at the seams through a convergence of intercessors and psalmist who hear the heartbeat of God through uninfected streams. A pure flow from a rare breed is being activated at this hour. Watch for the arising of harpists, violinists, and "spirit to breath" instrumentalists to forge a new trail in praise and worship streams across the land (2 Kings 3:15, 1 Samuel 10:5).

The sound of deliverance is in the air. What God intended for His Church will relent no longer. The war of the "worlds" has sounded. The hosts of Heaven along with the army of God are positioned front and center. What's been delayed has been shot out as an arrow being released from her quiver! Get ready, year 2020, for TURNING POINTS and FRESH STARTS from the Lord! The Church has heard her call for repentance from the Spirit of Revival.

"Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; but the Lord will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you. The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. Lift up your eyes all around, and see: they all gather together, they come to you; your sons shall come from afar, and your daughters shall be nursed at your side. It is NOT rare for our in-boxes to be filled with prophetic warnings about what the enemy is planning against the USA and frankly, the world.

Most of these do not get published on the Elijah List, simply because we are NOT like the secular news media with the philosophy of, "If it bleeds, it leads," as we often see the media publishing almost-exclusively bad news.

Having said that, when a well-known, high-level, mature prophet, who has made him or herself accountable to the Body of Christ, comes up with that kind of warning, it's time to REALLY LISTEN.

Such is the case with Cindy Jacobs today.

Today I am publishing an urgent call to prayer from Cindy Jacobs, titled: "Shields Up!" I won't be a spoiler and tell you what's in it, but on this day, you need to both read it and forward it to all your friends and pastors for a serious call to pray!

Cindy also mentions the ACPE or Apostolic Council of Prophetic Elders. I am a member of this group as well, and was very encouraged to see Cindy double and triple check this word, among the many prophets, before she went public with it.

With that, you CAN still be encouraged as you read this.

P.S. Many newer or emerging prophets DO get it right when they call for emergency prayer. But it's important that when we publish a warning to the whole Body of Christ, they should know and understand that it's a credible prophet who is issuing this warning. Dear praying friends,

In a recent time of intercession, I heard some chilling words, "We're going to finish what we started." I had a sense that these were plans that terrorists were making against America.

I also heard the Holy Spirit say that a spirit of violence has been loosed in the earth. This has been confirmed in a number of ways. I mentioned this to members of the Apostolic Council of Prophetic Elders (ACPE), which Mike and I convene. To a person, they agreed that they had heard something similar. Also, news reports are telling us of increased violence in some major cities in America, as well as in other countries.

Prayer Points:

• Washington DC: The Lord has specifically mentioned to me that we need to be praying against terrorist attacks in and around Washington, DC.

• Major US Cities: We will also want to cover other iconic targets in some of our major US cities.

• Iran: Holy Spirit highlighted Iran to me and the situation there, as well. I think the enemy would want to take advantage of the current conflict with Iran and escalate it.

This warning from the Lord is not to cause us fear! God is so good to warn us, so we have time to intercede and turn back the enemy's plans. He wants us to pray so things cannot escalate, but so that the violence will never happen.

"The Lord is Handing Out Scrolls for America"

While in Branson, MO, praying with the amazing community at Morningside Church as they dedicated their new Prayer Mountain Chapel, the Lord gave me a vision. I believe this vision has everything to do with an assignment He is extending to prophets, intercessors and, well, everyone—on how to effectively pray for the United States of America. (Note: I love all nations, so I'm convinced that within this message is a strategy to pray for other nations too.)

Ask for the Lord's Translation

In the vision, I simply saw the hand of the Lord reaching out to prophets and intercessors, giving them rolled-up scrolls on behalf of their cities and states. Anytime we have supernatural experiences, visions or dreams, we cannot be content with simply indulging the supernatural imagery without contending for an explanation.

The high benchmark of the prophetic ministry is not, and I repeat, NOT how supernatural or spiritual our prophetic words, visions, dreams, and experiences sound. When we receive messages from Heaven they will always come in a slightly "coded" manner. There will be this veil around them, not because God is making things difficult for us, but rather He's inviting you and me into dynamic communication with Him as friends and intimates. He wants you and me to ask Him for the translation—and He is faithful to provide it!

The veil of mystery surrounding prophetic messages from Heaven cannot motivate us to immediately indulge our "push button" society, where we jump out and simply share the word as is, in its uninterpreted, strongly-symbolic or allegorical format. Certainly not. Instead, when we believe that we receive a prophetic message from Heaven, we need to first present it back to the Lord and ask Him for clarity on what it means.

When I asked the Lord what those scrolls were, He told me they were the scrolls for cities and states in the USA. Reactive Prayers: Cleaning up Messes Made by the Devil

We cannot pray reactively, we must pray responsively. Reactive prayers sound like we are constantly trying to clean up messes made by the devil. By nature, we are reacting to the very real and present darkness around us. I refuse to pretend away the darkness in our land in favor of a pie-in-the-sky, end-times scenario.

Isaiah 60 gives us a stunning parallel of what to expect in this hour: gross and deep darkness colliding with a people upon whom God arises and shines with superior glory. And that glory is not meant to be contained, but rather have a measurable impact on a society gripped by darkness. Jesus did say we are the salt of the earth and light of the world, which means our presence in the earth should transform things around us.

Responsive Prayers: Responding to What's Written in God's Scrolls

Responsive prayers are not born on Earth; they were birthed in Heaven. They are not motivated by what we "scroll" through on our news-feeds everyday, but rather, they are driven by what's written in God's scrolls for our cities, states and nations.

The ultimate question should not be what is the devil doing? The question is what is God saying? The truth is, we will pray prayers that are driven by one or the other. We can pray based on what the enemy is doing in our nation—with such prayers sounding frantic, hopeless and full of despair—OR, we can be very alert and in tune with the darkness, while praying superior prayers not driven by what darkness is doing, but are rather influenced by the word and purposes of the Lord.

How to Pray Responsively

Here are some very practical "next steps" on how to pray responsively to what the Lord is doing right now:

1. Refuse to allow darkness and the devil to influence your prayer life. Practically speaking, this means you watch the news but don't pray it. You track world events but don't pray the problems. You don't agree with the darkness. Be very aware of what's going on in the earth, but refuse to partner with the enemy's agenda.

2. Ask the Lord, "What do YOU SAY about my city, state and nation?" The news often tells us what the enemy is saying concerning our nations. This is why the scroll imagery, I think, is so important, especially considering the day and age we live in. We're constantly scrolling through news stories and headlines, being influenced by what we are reading. No doubt many prayers have been crafted based on what our eyes have come across while reading the most recent, horrific news headline. Let's shift things. Let's be very aware of what's going on in the earth, but perhaps more aware of what the Lord wants to do in our cities, states and nations.

3. Specifically ask the Lord for the scroll of your city and state. This is not some mystical thing; it's a matter of the Lord unveiling to you what He wants to do in the place where you live. More than what we see in the news, we want to see what's written in Heaven come to pass in the places where we live. (Photo via Unsplash)

4. Research the prophetic history of your city/state.Often, the unfinished work of the Lord can be discovered by acquainting ourselves with the prophetic history of our cities and states.

Recently, I was overwhelmed by the Lord's presence as He told me things like, "I remember Frank Bartleman. I remember William Seymour. I remember John Wimber. I remember Aimee Semple McPherson." This was all in respect to California, which many tend to write off as perhaps the darkest state in the USA. And yet, there are powerful, spiritual seeds still in the ground. The Lord remembers these seeds and I believe His work is yet unfinished in California. Likewise, it's unfinished in your city and state!

5. Practically ask: "How can I get involved in what God is doing?" Yes, we pray, but oftentimes in prayer, the Lord wants to share prophetic solutions and strategies that demand our engagement. He will tell us to do something so that His will can be released into the earth through you. Of course He is the sovereign God and can do things Himself, but He is looking for agents in the earth realm who He can commission and deploy into every sphere that's been influenced by darkness.
