The "Prophetic Identity" Into Which You Are Called to Grow

And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power. I Corinthians 2:4

The Words that I speak for the Lord must be anointed and contain spiritual substance and purpose, which is beyond mere intellectual comprehension or ability. These words should have the "ring" of spiritual quality and convey life, healing, and deliverance.

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God...neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. I Corinthians 2:14

The Lord seeks those who are willing to exchange their reliance on intellectual ability for a complete dependence on the operation of the Holy Spirit through them.

But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom... I Corinthians 2:7

For us to speak this "hidden wisdom," or the "creative word," we must become "prophetic."

The key to the ministry of Jesus was His prophetic anointing, as expressed in Isaiah 50:4.

Notice the progression

The Lord God hath given Me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: He wakeneth morning by morning, He wakeneth Mine ear to hear as the learned. Isaiah 50:4 (Photo via Pixabay)

This ability to speak with "the tongue of the learned" is a "prophetic" gifting – "The Lord God has given...." We will then have the ability to speak the right word (that I should know how), at the right time (a word in season), to the right person (to him that is weary).

The preparation for this prophetic enabling requires that we spend quality time "waiting on the Lord," in His presence.

Each morning, we should set apart time (He wakens morning by morning) in which to "cultivate" this prophetic quality in our lives, and then, throughout the day, "maintain" our sensitivity to hear, and our willingness to turn aside, should the Lord desire to speak to us.

For us to be spiritually "awakened" means that we are being "lifted" above the limitations of our natural sense perception and understanding into the realm of the supernatural, as we are quickened by the Lord. When we seem to come short of this, or are distracted, we must not become discouraged, but continue to hold our "spirit" before the Lord in expectancy, that we might become more sensitive and available to Him.

The Lord greatly desires a prophetic people. When we also greatly desire, and ask Him for this abiding prophetic anointing, He will respond and bring us into an increasing degree of prophetic sensitivity and ability.

No matter how sensitive and available we are, we can become more spiritually sensitive and available.
Moses said: "...Would God that all the Lord's people were prophets, and that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them" (Numbers).

In Amos 2:12-13, the Lord also expresses this desire: "But ye gave the Nazarites wine to drink; and commanded the prophets, saying, 'Prophesy not.' Behold, I am pressed under you, as a cart is pressed that is full of sheaves."

Because the prophetic word was restricted, the Lord expressed Himself as being a "voice" that desired to speak, but was suppressed. This pictures the intense desire of the Lord to speak to His people.

John the Baptist said, "I am the voice of one crying..." (John). He did not merely speak a prophetic word: He also gave expression to the feelings of the Lord in relation to the word spoken. John did more than prophesy; he "became" prophetic.

There is a place of "prophetic identity" into which we are called to grow.

That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings...Philippians 3:10
The "fellowship of His sufferings" speaks of our coming into a "prophetic identity" with the heart intent and feelings of Jesus, in which we become vessels through whom the Lord might express Himself, as He desires. This involves our knowing the Lord beyond the realm of knowledge, ministry, and gifts.

We are to come into a personal, experiential identity with Him, that His thoughts and desires might find expression through us (the voice of one crying).

There Are Five Levels of Prophetic Development In Our Spiritual Life and Walk

I. Inner Revelation

My soul cleaveth unto the dust: quicken Thou me according to Thy Word. Psalm 119:25
We were formed from dust. As "dust," there is no structure or order within us to enable us to function in spiritual things. We must be "quickened," or lifted above the earthly ("quicken me according to Your Word"). This word, "quicken," means "life empowering" (including our emotions). To be "quickened" is the first level of inner revelation, which comes through the lifting power of the Holy Spirit. He "wakens" our spirit, morning by morning, and lifts us into this dimension of prophetic vision.

II. Our Testimony

If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth... I Peter (Photo via Freeimages)

An "oracle" is a divine communication. This means that the Word we speak in behalf of the Lord must be a "quickened" word, not our own word or thought. It is not through the "letter" of the Word, but rather, through the "anointing" of the Holy Spirit that life is conveyed. Words are understood by the "image" they convey. A true prophetic word goes beyond this mental image and imparts "spirit and life."

III. The Gift of Prophecy

For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. I Corinthians14:3
1
The "gift" of prophecy is available to all, but is limited in its purpose and use ("For we know in part, and we prophesy in part," I Corinthians 13:9). It is given for "edification, and exhortation, and comfort" (I Corinthians 14:3). The gifts should operate through a life of holiness, that Jesus, not the vessel being used, will be seen, and should edify the Body of Christ in an attitude of sacrificial love.

...desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. I Corinthians 14:1

The word "gifts" is in italics, which means it was not in the original text, and should read, "desire spirituals." Or, "desire the prophetic realm," in which we are enabled to both see and speak prophetically. To do this, we must first edify ourselves by "waiting on the Lord," and by our "speaking in tongues," as we are quickened by the Holy Spirit.

IV. The Office of the Prophet

And God hath set some in the Church, first apostles, secondarily prophets... I Corinthians 12:28
The Lord needs prophets in our day. A "prophet" is one who speaks a specific word, in a specific place, at a specific time. He speaks for God, as His mouthpiece. The prophetic office is a limited ministry (Are all prophets? See I Corinthians), and is distinctly different from the gift of prophecy. This is a very costly ministry, as those called to this ministry must submit themselves to a life of discipline and guidance.

V. The Spirit of Prophecy

...for the testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of prophecy. Revelation 19:10 (Photo by Linda Harris-Iorio "Keeper of the Flame" via elijahshopper.com)

This is the highest realm of the prophetic, and it functions through "relationship," rather than as a "gift." The "gift" of prophecy requires only our being yielded to the Holy Spirit in order to function, but is not necessarily an indication of right living, as is the "Spirit of prophecy." As we mature spiritually, our lives reflect a greater quality of spirit with its resultant expression transcending the gift realm of ministry.

The Spirit of Prophecy expresses a life that has become a "witness of" the Lord, not merely a "witness for" Him. It goes beyond words, as our life becomes the expression of His thoughts and feelings, as if we were Him.
But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. II Corinthians 3:1
8
As we become one in union with Him, our lives will become as a "mirror" that reflects the person and the presence of the Lord Jesus. Now, "the testimony of Jesus, which is the Spirit of prophecy," will be both seen and heard, as we "mirror" Him.

The Lord desires to bring "overcomers" into this level of relationship, in which the "Spirit of prophecy" will become a creative force that will greatly affect the world in the outworking of the end-time purposes of the Lord.

The Lord Really Wants To Make Himself Known - To Me? by Wade E. Taylor, The Elijah List

Wade E. Taylor:
The Elijah List

Wade E. Taylor
"I Am Come Down To Deliver You"

And the Lord said, "I have surely seen the affliction of My people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; and I am come down to deliver them..." Exodus 3:7-8

Each of us has a personal need in some area of our life experience, or are burdened for another. For this "word" to become personally meaningful, place your name, or the name of someone you pray for, in place of "My people," and then prayerfully re-read this "word" from the Lord – "I am come down to deliver (you) them."

Concerning the area in which you desire intervention, Jesus is saying, "I know your sorrows, therefore, I am come down to deliver you." The Lord is always "down," as He is omnipresent, but this "down" is more than Jesus visiting a particular person and location, as it speaks of the direct intervention of the Lord concerning a specific need.

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.Matthew 6:6
"Your Father shall reward you openly." This speaks of the approbation of, or the personalized, favor of God through His localized presence – "I am come down."

When we pray, we are to believe that the Lord is not only present, but also that He is paying special attention to our prayer – "your Father which sees in secret..." This is beyond our ability to understand, but we can experience and enjoy the fruit of this experience.

(Photo via Freeimages)

But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6
To those who are earnestly and diligently seeking His presence, the Lord will reveal or manifest Himself.

Does The Lord Really Desire To Make Himself Known To Me?

He that hath My commandments, and keeps them, he it is that loveth Me: and he that loveth Me shall be loved of My Father, and I will love him, and will manifest Myself to him. John 14:21

The word "manifest" means that the Lord will make Himself personally known to us through one, or a combination of, our five physical senses.

That is, we will perceive through our physical senses not only the fact of the presence of the Lord but the feeling of His person and thoughts.

The Lord desires to make Himself known to us. Moses provides an excellent example of this experience: "Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb"(Exodus 3:1).

Moses had been reared in the palace of Pharaoh, yet he knew that the "call of God" rested upon his life. Therefore, when he saw an Israelite being afflicted by an Egyptian, he delivered him, "for he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them." However, we are told that "they understood not" (see Acts 7:22-25).

As a result, Moses fled into the wilderness where he kept the flock of Jethro, the priest of Midian. He was not functioning in his calling, yet he was not discouraged or bitter, as he was still leading "sheep" toward the mountain of God.

And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, "I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt." And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, "Moses, Moses." And he said, "Here am I." Exodus 3:2-4

This "flame of fire in a bush that was not consumed" speaks of the "manifest" presence of the Lord that is yet available to us.

The Key To The Lord's Presence: The Need To Turn Aside

If we understand and practice the following, we will be brought into a rich, spiritual life experience in communion and fellowship with Jesus. Notice that the Lord did not speak to Moses until after he had turned aside.

The Lord had been waiting for Moses to notice and respond to His manifested presence in this burning bush.

At the time of this experience, Moses had been in the wilderness for forty years. This burning bush may have been there for years, but Moses was so intent on moving toward the mountain of God (religious activity) that it remained without being seen. Finally his self-ability became so depleted that he noticed and was willing to turn aside.

This bush burned – but it was not consumed. This tells us that this bush is still burning at this present time. This speaks of the Lord's presence being manifested in intervention.

Today, many Christians have the idea that the presence of the Lord can be found only in the things they are doing for the Lord, but the Lord has much more to offer us. He desires to bring us into an active cooperative relationship with Him, in which we work together.

Therefore, the Lord requires us to come to the end of our own strength and acknowledge Him. Only then will He respond.
The statement, "I will now turn aside," is the key to the Lord's presence becoming manifested to us.

We usually say that we are waiting for the Lord. However, the Lord is waiting for us. It is very important that we recognize and respond to His approach toward us. If we do not respond to the seeking presence of the Lord now, then, during the time of His return, we will not respond either. It is very important that we recognize and turn aside into His presence now, in whatever measure He may desire to appear or come to us.

What Happens When You Turn Aside

The response of the Lord was, "I am come down." He is always down (omnipresence), but He is speaking of a manifestation, or of an unfolding revelation of His (manifest) presence. When Moses turned, the Lord said, "Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground" (Exodus 3:5).

Previously, Moses had taken the initiative. Now, because he stopped and turned aside, the Lord is taking the initiative. Many, who sincerely love and serve Jesus, have also taken the initiative in seeking His will and presence. May we also set all these pressures of religious activity aside, and turn aside to wait in His presence. Only then can the Lord also ask us to take off our shoes (our working for the Lord).

This requires our knowing the voice of the Lord, and also our being willingly obedient in response to what is heard. There is a progression in our Christian experience, which if followed, will lead us to the place in which we will become both willing and anxious to turn aside, so the Lord will be able to reveal His manifest presence to us.
All too few recognize the value of an open Heaven, where the "Son" can indeed "shine" upon His people. An open Heaven does not just happen. It must be diligently sought after and cultivated.

How You Are Changed From Glory To Glory

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. 2 Corinthians 3:18

It is the manifested glory of the Lord that changes us (changed from glory to glory). Have you ever felt the anointing on a certain Gospel song or message, as you listened? How did this anointing get on the CD? The machine is not sensitive to the anointing, but there is an explanation. The anointing has an electrical characteristic which is picked up by the microphone and recorded on the CD. Thus, if a person is anointed, that anointing is being broadcast.

There is an electrical characteristic within our physical being. All of us have experienced an electrical shock after we walked across a dry carpet. We picked up an electrical charge, which was released when we touched something that was grounded. So also, when we are in the presence of the anointing, we become "charged." This charge then affects our entire being. When we touch another, it is imparted to them.

When we sit under an anointed ministry, far more takes place than our mentally understanding the message. There is a realignment of our spirit that changes us, so we become spiritually sensitive and hungry. The anointing creates within us a capacity for His presence, which changes us into His image.

In our secular life experience, we move in a world that is "without form." It is only as God intervenes and speaks that the earth takes on form and becomes productive. Thus, as we come under the influence of His anointing, or the manifestation of His presence, we take on spiritual "substance" and become productive.

After Moses turned aside, he was able to return to Egypt and deliver Israel because He had stood in the presence of the "burning bush."

As we turn aside to spend time in the Lord's presence, there is a resultant readjustment of our being, and we come into alignment with that which is spiritual. Thus, it is very important that we sit under an anointed ministry.
One church may have outstanding teaching of the Word, but no manifest presence of the Lord. Another church may be lacking in this area, but has the abiding presence of the Lord. The wise, spiritually hungry person should choose to sit under the anointing, as this is more important; but if both can be found together, Heaven has come to earth.

When we come into His revealed presence, the molecular structure of our being changes, and we take on a sensitivity to His voice and presence, and in this presence, the Lord changes us into His likeness.

It is here, when we turn aside into His presence and open our spirit to receive, that we will be "made ready" to fulfill our part in bringing about the deliverance that the Lord's people so desperately need.

The Elijah List - Wade E. Taylor: Understanding the Will of God - Stand in the Presence

Wade E. Taylor:

Understanding the Will of God
- Stand in the Presence

Wade E. TaylorAnd we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.Romans 8:28

This does not say that all things are good, but that even terrible things (all things – without qualification) can work together to produce "good." This good (God) is not these "things" in themselves, but rather, that the "image" of our Lord Jesus Christ is being wrought into our being, and these "all things" have become a tool to accomplish this.

Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. Ephesians 4:13

We are to grow into the "measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ." We begin our spiritual journey as a "spiritual baby" at the time of our salvation, and then grow toward spiritual maturity. On the Cross, Jesus said, "It is finished." He lived a perfect life and fully accomplished the will of His Father. Thus, Jesus came to full spiritual maturity
.
We also are to grow into this level of maturity in which our life "measures" up to His life. At the Judgment Seat of Christ, our life will be measured against His life. To prepare us for this, the Lord works within the daily circumstances of our life experience. Our part is to submit ourselves unconditionally to allow Him to do this, and then cooperate with Him in whatever He may do.

God has made us what we are, creating us in Christ Jesus for the good deeds which are prepared beforehand by God as our sphere of action. Ephesians 2:10 Moffatt Bible

Conformed to His imageThe will of the Lord for us then is not "where" we are to be, or "what" we are to do, but rather, that we will live and function in the place where there is a set of circumstances that will best enable the Lord to accomplish His purpose within us (our being conformed to His image through our yielding to the outworking of His will and purpose for us).

If we rightly understand this, then it can be said that it is possible for us to be "in" the will of God, while seemingly, being "out" of the will of God. This can only happen if our heart is unconditionally set toward the Lord.

Then the Lord is released to use these "all things," whatever they may be, to bring us into spiritual maturity, and also, to prepare us to be brought into the place where He can accomplish a higher purpose through us. But, first we have to be "made ready."

Made Ready

This principle can be seen in the life of Moses.

Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian... Exodus 3:1

Moses knew that he was called to deliver his people, Israel, but in an attempt to fulfill this calling, He failed and fled.

And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds. And when he was full forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren the children of Israel. And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the Egyptian: For he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not... Then fled Moses at this saying... Acts 7:22-25, 29

Called to the sheepAs a result of being rejected, Moses is "ministering" in the wrong place to the wrong people – Jethro's sheep. Today, there are those who are in a similar situation, feeling that although they have missed the best, they are doing the best they are able to do; or there are some who have listened to the enemy telling them that they missed, and have given up.

No matter how "out of place" we may feel, if we will desire "something more" and push forward, the Lord will bring us into the level of spiritual maturity so He can use us in the outworking of His purposes. Thus, these are "in the will of God" while being "out of the will of God."

Moses clearly fits in this second group. He was not feeling sorry for himself, nor was he sitting and doing nothing. The original vision was still alive within him, and he was doing the best he could with all that was available to him.

Moses was called to the "sheep" of Israel, but instead, he was faithfully leading the "sheep" of the priest of Midian toward the mountain of God. This moved the heart of the Lord, who made an arrangement (a burning bush) wherein He could meet with Moses. Thus, all this was "working together" for good.

Seemingly, being "out" of the will of God, Moses was "in" the will of God, as he was being brought to the end of his own ability, which prepared him for his meeting the Lord at a "burning bush."

Willing To "Turn Aside"

Burning bushThe Lord revealed Himself to Moses in a flame of fire. Thus the bush burned, but was not consumed. It can be said that it is yet burning and available to us – if our attitude is as Moses' was, and we become willing to turn aside into the Lord's manifested presence.

It would have been easier for Moses to remain in the wilderness with these sheep than to go back and face his past failure. There was no one in the wilderness to whom he could complain so they would feel sorry for him, nor to criticize what he was doing. Jethro's "sheep" were obviously much more cooperative and appreciative than the "flock" of Israel had been.

However, the intention of the Lord is always to prepare us, not only for us to succeed where we had failed, but also for us to go "further." Therefore, the Lord told Moses that he was to go back and face Pharaoh, to bring deliverance to the very people from whom he had fled.

Because the Lord did not expect Moses to accomplish this in his own strength, as he had before attempted, he was instructed by the Lord to "take off his shoes."

Moses had walked as far as he could go in his own strength and ability. Now, he would walk in the strength (shoes) of the Lord.

This "intervention" did not take place until Moses had come to the full end of his ability, and was willing to turn aside, as an acknowledgement of his need.

And Moses said, "I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt." Exodus 3:3

Moses turned asideAccording to most modern teaching, the burning bush is seen as being in front of us. They say that all we need is more faith, or some new methodology. Rather, the burning bush was off to the side of Moses' progression toward the mountain of God and required a simple action on his part.

He had to "notice," and then "turn" from what he was doing, and submit himself to the Lord.

The fact that this "bush" burned, but was not consumed, means that it had been there for a long time, unnoticed by Moses as he pushed toward the mountain of God. Finally, Moses became aware that his ability or methodology was not getting him to the goal he desired, and noticed this bush, as it burned.

This concept of "turning aside" is very close to the heart of the Lord, who greatly desires that we both notice and respond to His presence.

My Beloved is like a roe or a young hart: behold, He standeth behind our wall, He looketh forth at the windows, shewing Himself through the lattice. Song of Solomon 2:9
"He standeth behind our wall."

The Lord waits in the shadows, to see if we will notice Him, that He might come into our circumstances to bring us into the higher level of His purposes for us. This ability to perceive, and the discipline to respond to His presence, does not come quickly, or easily.

It requires a "coming to the end" of our ways, and spending quality time in His presence in order to further develop our sensitivity to the spiritual realm, and to the manifested presence of our Lord.

If need be, the Lord has a "Jethro" and some special "sheep" who will help accomplish this in our lives, if we will acknowledge that we have come to the end of our abilities and ways, and cry out to the Lord that we need "something more" beyond that which we presently possess.

Blessed Are the Poor In Spirit

Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. Matthew 5:3

This means that we have become absolutely destitute concerning any ability that we may have and, in desperation, have become willing to turn aside. Only then can we partake of the provision of the Kingdom.
"Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted." Matthew 5:4

We receive the enabling grace of God's abilityWhen we seemingly become stranded in the wilderness, where none of our "giftings" are able to function, we will mourn. We cannot help it, but the Lord understands and will comfort us. This "comfort" will result from the impartation that we receive from the "burning bush" of His presence, by which we receive the enabling grace of His ability, in exchange for the loss of our abilities.

"Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth." Matthew 5:5

Only now can we face and overcome the "Pharaohs" in our lives – all those things that actively hinder us from fulfilling the call of God.

If we will turn aside and stand in the presence of this "bush" that yet burns, and receive the impartation that is available to us, this world will yet be turned to the Lord.
