Tears - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Tears

“Jesus wept.” (John 11:35, NKJV)

Most of us can declare where the shortest verse is found in the Bible. We may even have had the opportunity during one of those times when you lifted your hand in Sunday School (for those who remember, while feeling a bit sorry for us former Catholics who didn’t have that training) and loudly proclaimed, “I know it! John 11:35! Jesus wept!” when asked during the Bible Sword drill. Baptists knew of those childhood times. Others may have too.

There is another verse not so easily recalled, when Jesus had also shed tears in public, actually weeping in fact.

“When Yeshua had come closer and could see the city, he wept over it (emphasis mine), saying, “If you only knew today what is needed for shalom! But for now, it is hidden from your sight. For the days are coming upon you when your enemies will set up a barricade around you, encircle you, hem you in on every side, and dash you to the ground, you and your children within your walls, leaving not one stone standing on another — and all because you did not recognize your opportunity when God offered it!” (Luke 19:41-44, Complete Jewish Bible)

The Scriptures record at least these two instances quoted above when Yeshua HaMashiach, the world’s Messiah, cried. One occurred, as John wrote, at His best friend Lazarus’ grave cave, who had just died and buried within the past three days.

The other time when He approached the city of Jerusalem, within a short period before fulfilling prophecy about His certain forthcoming death. He knew the prophecies He Himself would proclaim (Matthew 24 and others) that this city of God, Yerushalayim, would not only soon be destroyed by the Romans, but even before then this same people within would momentarily proclaim Him as King, and then within days following crucify Him as a liar, rejecting Him as the promised Messiah for which He was, and still is.

There have been a few times when I wept. In public even. Once was in 1988 when I first stood at the Western Wall, the Kotel, (formerly called the Wailing Wall) in Jerusalem, where myriads of Jews had already done so since June 6, 1967, when they recaptured their rightful capital city. I too had put my hands on that natural, earthly wall, and then the supernatural love of the Lord Yeshua overcame me, interceding through me for these I stood among, His chosen people, and all the peoples of the nations He has created.

But being a guy, and an American at that, we typically are not supposed to cry, but rather are expected to uphold the false standard so common among us, to be the macho type and not be expressive in that manner, especially in public. People might think we are weak, fragile, and even have a caring heart about people, someone other than ourselves, our family, and our things. Imagine that.

But this should not be so. Jesus wept. The King of the Universe Himself wept. With real tears at that. It is true.

As I consider and think about these verses of God-in-the-flesh weeping, I ask myself, “Do I care enough about cities, and the people within, to weep over their lives, as they go on rejecting the Living God, the One Who alone can save them? Do I give any effort in prayer and supplication, to intercede on their behalf, as they turn their backs on the Giver of Life, and continue in their wicked ways, blindly doing so?”

Many times, I don’t, as I just focus on my family, my things, my life.

In the coming days and years ahead, as the world around us plunges deeper into destruction, sin, and certain death, will I, will you, give ourselves in intercession, crying out with utter grief as we witness the ongoing national wars (both with guns and mouths), baby killing at birth, drug overdoses following the desire to escape life, and both children and young adults being given over to sexual predators for their horrific, satanic pleasure?

Jesus shed tears over the people of the Golden City. But His grief was not to be for nothing. He knew that He had come down to earth, from His place alongside God the Father in heaven, to fulfill all the promises concerning the promised Messiah. And because He knew that His life here was meant to be lived among us, followed by terrible torture and later hung on a tree to die, in order to fulfill the requirement that innocent blood must be shed for our redemption from sin, He willing did it.

We are thus to “Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we're in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed — that exhilarating finish in and with God — he could put up with anything along the way: cross, shame, whatever. And now he's there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!” (Hebrews 12:2-3, THE MESSAGE)

Jesus (Yeshua) shed tears over the lost and hurting people, over the very city that would turn against Him. And yet, because He knew the plans and purposes of His Father, our God, He endured it all for our sake. This should give us the hope, the determination and the desire to also give of ourselves, following in His footsteps, for the sake of others, for those not yet knowing what salvation is, and how to obtain it through Him.

May our hearts be so filled with His love, compassion, and yearning to see the nations come to know Him, that we shed tears, even weep, as we intercede on their behalf too.

Fill our hearts, O Lord Jesus. Your love must become ours.

Shalom and ahava (peace and love in Hebrew).

Ketterer and his wife Ivy, are the parents of six children, five of which were adopted through foster care. Cowell choked back tears when telling Ketterer what an inspiration he is to everyone on the show.

"Michael, as a dad I can't imagine what you've done. And the fact that you're on this show and you
really need this — I don't know, you're a really special guy. I don't know, there's something about you,"
Cowell said.

The other judges agreed with Cowell.

"We just need more men like you," said judge Heidi Klum.

The following day, after his performance, the couple released a video to Youtube titled "I Am Second,"
sharing the Ketterers story of how they came to adopt five children.

In the film produced by White Chair Productions, Ketterer also explains how extremely special it was
to get to perform a song to his children in front of the world – and he how he got to tell them how
much he loved them.

Ketterer also admits that he wasn't ready to be a father as he was extremely immature.

Ketterer, along with Melody Noel, Whitney Medina and Matt Gilman (also three musical artists from
the Influence Church's ministry) are members of the Christian group Influence Music, a record label
and artist collective under the church's oversight.

The group released its debut album, Touching Heaven, in May, according to the church's website
Their debut album is a compilation of songs written last year during a writing camp in which worship
artists and LA-based pop writers participated.

2015: A Year To Spread Your Broken Wings - Bill Yount

Bill Yount

Posted: 30 Dec 2014

"If your heart is broken, you'll find God right there; if you're kicked in the gut, he'll help you catch your breath." Psalm 34:18 The Message

Broken: having been fractured or damaged and no longer in one piece or in working order. (of a person) having given up all hope; despairing.

It seems no matter who we are and how much we love Jesus, there's still a broken area in our lives that God is still working on. I said to my wife recently, "Do you know anyone in the Body of Christ including us who's not broken in some area of their lives? Do you know anyone who is normal?" She said, "Bill, normal is the setting on the dryer downstairs."

 I'm In Your Brokenness

I sense an urgent cry from God's heart. "Wait no longer. I'm in your brokenness. When things didn't go the way you planned and I didn't answer the way you thought I would. So broken, you felt like a bird with out wings. But I'm still here and you are under My wings.. Would you do Me a favor? Spread your broken wings one more time. Give me one more chance. See what I can do for I am breathing on your brokenness. Can you feel My breath? I've waited for you to cry to Me. Only Me. Let Me be your dream now and I will take you to My dream that I have for you. Try it. One more time. Spread your broken wings and see where they will take you. I will be the wind that carries you above the storms, pain and sorrow. It's your time to defy gravity. At first it may hurt again but it will not harm you now. You will laugh again, dance again and love again. Spread your broken wings and make history."

Did Our Brokenness Come To Define Us?

Nothing is wasted in the hands of our Redeemer. All things work together for our good to those who love the Lord. Even our pain, disappointments and things that don't make sense. Could it be that we've tasted brokenness in order to relate to a broken world and to have our heart break for it?

Can you feel them? Broken hearts, broken dreams, broken hopes, and broken bones. Maybe we should take a year and weep with those that weep. There must be an ocean of tears somewhere bottled by God's hand ready to be redeemed. Lord, let this be the year. And let us find you. Where our dream that's coming true is You. So we can get over ourselves and heal a broken, dying world. Begin with me. Weep through me over Jerusalem .Weep though me for the lost. I wonder when we stand before You if we will regret that we didn't weep more on earth. Not for ourselves or for the things that didn't work out. But for those who didn't make it there with us. For we will have all eternity to rejoice and be glad. "Lord, is that tear in my eye mine or yours?"

A Year To Hear Tears Falling

"I'm opening the ears of My people to hear tears falling this year. You will hear tears splashing, hitting the ground so hard that they will erode mountains and make rivers out of deserts. If you run from them they will pursue you until you can hear nothing else. As the prophet Elijah told the widow to go borrow many vessels, I hear the Father saying, "Go borrow many bottles for there will be more tears than there are bottles on the earth. Tears from orphans pounding against gross darkness screaming, "Can anyone hear me?" You will hear widows plead in the night for their cruse of oil not to fail. Children imprisoned in sex trafficking with no more tears left to cry, staring into outer space. A tearless generation robbed of their emotions. Older people in rest homes weeping for the younger generations, that they might learn from their long life of taking the road less traveled by. "Is not wisdom found among the aged? Does not long life bring understanding?" Job 12:12 You may need to visit them to hear their heart cry."

Perhaps when we weep with those who weep our brokenness begins to heal and our broken wings want to fly again to those whose weeping is greater than our own. Our broken wings must fly not for our own sake but for God's sake. I saw a little bird recently flying high in the sky with strong winds blowing against it. I said to the Lord, "How can that small bird fly against those fierce winds?" The Lord said, "They were born that way. They were created to fly in winds of adversity. And so are you."

Have the violent winds of life knocked you down? Have you forgotten that you were born to fly in spite of them? They were blowing hard against you to go higher in God. Are you wondering where your wings are? They are beginning to grow now. By faith begin to stretch them. You can do it. Hear the tears of others falling. They need you now. Go ahead. Stretch your broken wings and change history.

Blessings,

Bill Yount
