Why the Cane Ridge Revival Holds Prophetic Hope for America's Third Great Awakening - DANIEL K. NORRIS CHARISMA MAGAZINE

It had been a long journey through the forest and hills of Kentucky just to make it to the log cabin church in Cane Ridge yet tens of thousands found the outcome to be well worth the effort. Barton Stone, the pastor at the Presbyterian Church there, had sent word far and wide inviting everyone to come "camp on the grounds" during their first annual communion service. He promised it would be, "one of the greatest meetings of its kind ever known." It didn't disappoint.
By Saturday afternoon it was estimated that more than 25,000 people had descended upon the fields surrounding the church. Stone had expected thousands, but this was more than he could have imagined. It was immediately apparent that the covered platform he had constructed outside the church would not suffice for so many. So Stone dispatched seven separate ministers into the fields to contend for a harvest among the people. Stumps, carriages, and fallen trees became platforms for preachers as they ministered to different sections of the multitude simultaneously.
In the crowd that afternoon was a mother with her two teenage daughters standing at her side. They were listening to a Baptist minister who stood before them on a stump. He preached with powerful words about the deadly consequences of sin. As they listened, the two daughters were suddenly seized with conviction. They cried out from the depths of their souls and then fell to the ground like two dead women. This was a new and strange sight for everyone in the crowd.
The mother, a devout woman who loved the Lord, became very concerned. She bent over the two girls, fanning their faces in a frantic attempt to wake them up, but to no avail. It was an hour later when one of her daughters finally stirred just long enough to cry out with a piercing scream, "Mercy, Lord! Mercy!" She then fell back into her trance-like state.
Both girls laid there motionless for hours upon the ground with the most awful look of terror upon their faces. From time to time they would awaken, let out a blood curdling cry for mercy and then return to their agonizing slumber. The wretched despair they carried on their countenance lasted for a few hours before it finally broke. It was suddenly replaced with the most beautiful, heavenly smile. "Precious Jesus!" one shouted as she rose to her feet. The whole of her being had been transformed. The encounter was forever life altering.
The young woman was filled with such fire and zeal that containing it was impossible. She opened her mouth and immediately began to preach the gospel to all those who surrounded her. Her voice belted across the crowd as if it were amplified with a supernatural force. It caused a stir, and a new crowd began to gather around her.  As she spoke, dozens of men and women were struck down to the ground like men slain in battle, each experiencing a similar encounter as she had just had. This wasn't an isolated incident. Similar scenes were breaking out all through the fields that day. That weekend, countless souls were won to the Lord in the most incredible fashion (Trail of Fire, page 39).
Oh, that God would do it again in our nation and do it like Cane Ridge!
The story of the Cane Ridge revival is one that stirs something deep within the spirit. I found myself moved in a remarkable way as I studied and wrote about this extraordinary move of God in Trail of Fire. I know I am not alone. Every year thousands make the trek to Cane Ridge, Kentucky, to visit that old log cabin meeting house. They go to learn about and to remember this remarkable move of God. Some go in hopes of capturing a burning ember of that ancient fire. All leave with the same prayer resounding in their hearts, "Lord, do it again, like Cane Ridge!"
It is very much like what the psalmist Asaph invites us to do. He writes, "I will remember the works of the Lord; surely I will remember Your wonders of old. I will meditate also on all Your work and ponder on Your mighty deeds" (Ps. 77:11–12, MEV).
There is great benefit in looking back at the stories of the past to be encouraged by all God has done.
Consider the work of Cane Ridge for a moment. This was 1801. The United States was barely 25 years old, and Kentucky had just joined the Union less than 10 years earlier. The new nation was quickly growing as more and more people continued to venture West. The days of Jonathan Edwards and the Great Awakening had already begun to fade as the U.S. expanded. Once again the moral foundations America once knew were slowly eroding. Churches were few and far in this vast land. As people moved farther and farther away from their churches, they began to forsake the Lord. This was the wild frontier, where the only rule of law was a gun or a rope. It was a time when wickedness abounded and very few people professed real faith. It was a spiritually dark time for America.
Yet in dark times, the light of the gospel shines brightest. The fire that fell in Cane Ridge sparked a movement. Revival spread across the American frontier like wild fire driven by a stiff wind through the dry brush. In the years following, there was an exponential explosion of church planting. Similar camp meetings were organized in several states. Though none ever matched the attendance of the original meeting at Cane Ridge, the effect was undeniable. America was once again awakened!
I'm certain there are many who wonder if it is possible for God to move again in such a powerful way. They have concluded that America is too far gone to experience another great awakening. Cane Ridge shows otherwise. This revival that took place 215 years ago offers us great hope today. Look back at what God did and let it bring you to the revelation that He can and will do it again!
My friends, revival will always be God's remedy for an ailing land. Revival is the moment that the Lord Almighty invades a community, the slumbering saints are awakened and sinners are reborn. True revival offers total reformation for individuals, communities and even nations.
Yes, America is experiencing a spiritually dark time once again. The founding principles that brought us great freedom and prosperity have been forgotten. America is lost. But don't lose hope! Consider the works of the Lord. In times of great darkness or spiritual drought, these stories remind us that we've been here before, and when we finally turn back to God, He always revives. Look back at the times He has moved across our land. Remember and meditate on the times you've personally experienced the power of His presence. Let those stories fan the embers in your life back to flame.
We need God to do it again, and do it like Cane Ridge!

Today's Israel Inspiration

The Bible tells us that a certain bird called a chassidah (a stork) is not kosher, and our Sages explain the reason: it is cruel to birds of other species. Yet if we look more closely, the bird's name "chassidah" comes from the Hebrew word "chessed" which means kindness! This bird does indeed display kindness toward its own species by sharing food. The Bible teaches us, however, that the kosher form of chessed is to bestow kindness on all people, regardless of our differences. Colel Chabad, Israel's oldest continuous charity, has been extending its helping hand to Israel's neediest citizens since 1788. This summer, Colel Chabad is bringing camp to hospitalized sick children throughout Israel, and needs our help to purchase arts and crafts, toys, puzzles and more!

‘Currency Crash’ Drives British Pound To A 31 Year Low As Deutsche Bank Sinks To The Lowest Level Ever - Michael Snyder THE ECONOMIC COLLAPSE BLOG

British Pound Brexit - Public Domain

Posted: 06 Jul 2016  Michael Snyder  THE ECONOMIC COLLAPSE BLOG

The fallout from the Brexit vote continues to rock the European financial system.  On Wednesday, the British pound dropped to a fresh 31 year low as confidence in the currency continues to plummet.  At one point it had fallen as low as $1.2796 before rebounding a bit.  As I write this, it is still sitting at just $1.293.  Meanwhile, the problems for the biggest banks in Europe just continue to mount.

At one point on Wednesday Credit Suisse hit an all-time record low, and German banking giant Deutsche Bank closed the day at an all-time record closing low of 12.93.  Overall, Europe’s Stoxx 600 Bank Index closed at the lowest level in almost five years.  What we are watching is a full-blown financial meltdown in Europe, but because it is not personally affecting them yet, most Americans are not paying any attention to it.

The collapse of the British pound that we have seen since the Brexit vote has been nothing short of breathtaking.  In fact, CNN says that this “is what a currency crash looks like”…
This is what a currency crash looks like. The pound has slumped to $1.28, its lowest level in more than three decades.
Investors are dumping the pound following Britain’s vote to leave the European Union on June 23. The pound has dropped roughly 15% since the referendum day, when it reached $1.50.
After appearing to stabilize, the pound resumed its decline this week after three big asset management firms halted withdrawals from real estate investment funds.
Of course this is likely only just the beginning.  There are some analysts that are suggesting that the British pound could eventually hit parity with the U.S. dollar at some point.  We are seeing seismic shifts on the foreign exchange market right now, and this is going to affect trillions of dollars worth of currency-related derivatives.  It will be exceedingly interesting to see how all of this plays out.

Meanwhile, Deutsche Bank continues to get absolutely hammered.

If the biggest and most important bank in Germany is not completely imploding, then why does the stock price continue to crash time after time?

Since the start of 2016, the value of Deutsche Bank has fallen by half, and many have pointed out that the trajectory that it is on is very, very similar to Lehman Brothers in 2008.

My regular readers are probably sick and tired of hearing me warn about Deutsche Bank, so today I will let someone else do it.  According to an article that was just published by the BBC, Deutsche Bank is now “the most dangerous bank in the world”…
Deutsche Bank shares hit a new record low today. It’s value has halved since the beginning of the year.
So is it now the most dangerous bank in the world?
According to the International Monetary Fund – yes.
Last week, the IMF said that, of the banks big enough to bring the financial system crashing down, Deutsche Bank was the riskiest. Not only that, Deutsche Bank’s US unit was one of only two of 33 big banks to fail tests of financial strength set by the US central bank earlier this year.
At this point Deutsche Bank is scrambling to raise cash to stave off an imminent implosion.  Just today, I came across a report about how they plan to sell at least a billion dollars worth of shipping loans in order to bring in some much needed funds.  Many of the steps that they are taking are reminiscent of what Lehman Brothers tried to do just prior to their collapse, and that alone should tell you something.

At the same time all of this is going on, things in Italy just continue to get even worse.  As of this moment, approximately 17 percent of all bank loans held by Italian banks are considered to be “non-performing”.  In other words, they are absolutely swamped by bad debts.  At the height of the 2008 crisis, only about 5 percent of the loans held by U.S. banks were bad.  So what we are watching unfold in Italy right now could definitely be described as “cataclysmic”.

Since the Brexit vote, Italian banks have been hit harder than anyone else.  The following comes from CNN
Shares in Italy’s Banca Monte Dei Paschi Di Siena have crashed 45% in 10 days, forcing regulators to temporarily ban short-selling in the stock. The bank has been given until Friday to come up with a plan to reduce its bad loans by 40% by 2018.
It’s not alone. Other Italian bank stocks have fallen by about 30% since June 23, when the U.K. voted to leave the European Union. Italian officials are trying to find ways to shore up the country’s financial system.
Italian banks have been choking on bad debt for years, but the U.K. vote has thrown their problems into sharp relief.
Personally, I have been amazed that the European financial system has been able to hold it together for this long.  A total collapse was inevitable, but I really thought that it would have started before now.  Up until this time we have seen small crisis after small crisis, but in 2016 the full-blown meltdown has finally arrived.

And this growing crisis in Europe is going to have a dramatic impact on the entire planet.  Everywhere you look the economic fundamentals are getting worse, and if you won’t believe me, perhaps you will believe this editorial by Tim Quast on CNBC
The bottom line is that the fundamentals of the economy and market don’t look good: Whoever you’re listening to — the Federal Reserve, to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, to the International Monetary Fund — hoary heads of the dismal science see deepening malaise worsened by the Brexit, creaky European banks, possible copycat flight from the euro zone — even a slowdown for the U.S.
Can a market characterized by declining money flows, weakening fundamentals and arbitrage that has posted no material gain in over 18 months gather steam? Anything is possible. But it’s not a sound conclusion.
Whenever I post an article about Europe, it tends to get significantly less response than many of my other articles do.

But I hope that my fellow Americans will start paying attention to this growing crisis, because it is going to deeply affect all of us.

What is happening to the European financial system right now is truly history in the making, and I believe that it is going to be one of the biggest news stories of the second half of 2016.

God Still Uses Dreams to Speak to You, but There's a Catch - JANE HAMON CHARISMA MAGAZINE

Is your heart and spirit tuned to the Holy Spirit to receive the message He has for you?

Join us on our new podcast each weekday for an interesting story, well told, from Charisma News. Listen at charismapodcastnetwork.com.

I dreamed of four angels who presented themselves to me as "The Four Horsemen of Awakening." Each angel identified the move of God's Spirit he represented, and their arms were linked together indicating they were a solid, unified force to be reckoned with—the necessary team to bring nations into revival and awakening.
Strangely, we were on a golf course and they hit a ball down the fairway. The ball landed about 10 feet away from a large crocodile, which prevented them from continuing to play. I could see that at the end of the course a large party was waiting for them to finish. But instead they were waiting for something. Then in the dream I realized they were waiting for the church to pray so they could deal with the crocodile and finish the course.
I had this dream during my first night of ministry in Australia and New Zealand. I was there to speak at some conferences in which I was to help them understand what God was saying to their nations, to the church and to each one individually. I was there to release God's prophetic voice.
Was this a dream from the Lord? Or was it the pizza I ate the night before? Or was it merely a story line produced from my overactive imagination? Could it be that God was giving me a message to share with those I would be speaking to at the conferences? I got up and wrote this dream down and began to pray God would bring the clarity and wisdom needed to understand what He was saying.
God has always desired to communicate with His people. Yet for centuries God was thought of as a silent, distant, almost indifferent Creator who ruled the affairs of the universe and, though omnipotent, took little interest in the day-to-day lives of His children.
The church has become increasingly aware not only that God wants to speak to His people, but also that He is, in fact, concerned with even the smallest details of our lives: "Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Therefore do not fear. You are more valuable than many sparrows" (Luke 12:6–7).
Throughout Scripture we see a God who cares and who communicates His concerns, His direction, His judgments and His blessings to the people of this world. At times He spoke directly to His servants; other times His mouthpieces, the prophets, delivered His messages. Judges, kings, priests and even musicians carried God's instructions to the people. And in numerous instances in Scripture, God directed, corrected and instructed individuals through dreams and visions.
Dreams and visions are perhaps some of the most common ways God has communicated with humankind. The Bible contains more than 50 references to dreams and visions in which God delivered messages. Abraham learned of his promised lineage through dreams and visions. Jacob's life was drastically changed through a series of dreams in which he received God's promises regarding his heritage. God revealed Joseph's destiny through his dreams. Daniel, Obadiah, Nahum and Zechariah were among the prophets often visited with revelations from God through visions and dreams.
Great protection was given to the Christ child as God's messengers spoke to Joseph and the Magi in dreams. The apostles Peter, Paul and John were later visited by the Spirit of God in visions.
Webster's dictionary defines a dream as "a succession of images or ideas present in the mind during sleep." Dreams are formed in the subconscious mind based on images and symbols that are unique to the individual, depending on his or her background, experience and current life circumstances. Dreams can communicate truth about ourselves—or others—that our conscious minds might have failed to acknowledge. One word for dream in the Greek language is enupnion, which is defined as "something seen in sleep or a vision in a dream." Dreams can originate strictly within the natural mind or can be given as messages from God's Spirit and received within the mind. They are not always easy to understand, but dreams are one means by which God might choose to speak to us.
Webster's dictionary defines a vision as "the act or power of perceiving abstract or invisible subjects as clearly as if they were visible objects." A vision is also defined as "foresight." One Hebrew word for vision is chizzayown, which literally means "a revelation." A Greek word translated as "vision" in the New Testament, horasis, means "the act of gazing at something or an inspired appearance."
Dreams and visions are basically the same except that a dream occurs during periods of sleep, while a vision generally refers to images or revelations received in picture form while awake. I have often heard people say that they had a dream just before getting out of bed in the morning, but they were not sure if it was a dream or a vision since they thought they were awake at the time. Whether these were dreams or visions is immaterial. More important is the message of the revelation.
Joshua 1:8 tells us to meditate upon God's Word both day and night. Meditating on God's Word before bed often results in revelation through a dream. At times this might be a divine revelation—God speaking to you through the dream. Or it might be a personal revelation—your subconscious mind revealing your deepest, innermost thoughts. Psalm 16:7 confirms this: "I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel; my affections also instruct me in the night seasons."
How We Receive Dreams
Dreams are messages sent either from God's Spirit or from our own souls, which comprise the mind, will and emotions. The subconscious mind within our souls provides the background or screen for these messages to be displayed on. Spiritual dreams are inspired by God, then communicated to our subconscious minds. These must then be received and discerned by our conscious minds through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Just as television and radio waves are broadcast through the air and must be tuned in to, so dreams are constantly being broadcast to the subconscious mind, both by God's Spirit and by our own souls. We must learn to turn on our receivers and tune in to the messages being sent.
The prophet Micah said that he "saw" the Word of the Lord (Micah 1:1). How did he see this word? The New International Version of the Bible calls this a vision. Micah likely saw images or pictures projected on the screen of his mind, which communicated God's word to him.
If we compare the communication of the Spirit of the Lord through dreams to other methods of divine communication mentioned in Scripture—prophecy, a word of knowledge, etc.—the primary difference is that dreams are given first to the subconscious mind before being perceived by the conscious mind.
Interpretation of the Four Horseman Dream
The dream at the beginning of this chapter was a prophetic word, not only to those nations where I was ministering but also to the Body of Christ. The four angels, or "Four Horsemen of Awakening," are being sent to earth to assist the Church in bringing a last days revival and harvest. Unlike the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse described in the book of Revelation, which bring death, war, famine and conquest, these angels are being sent for breakthrough, revival and miracles. They were on a golf course, for Paul speaks of finishing the course. The crocodile was a symbol of leviathan (Job 41), which represents a spiritual force of darkness that tries to threaten, intimidate and delay God's purposes from moving forward.
The key to the dream was that the angels were waiting for something in order to confront the opposition and be able to advance. What were they waiting for? They were waiting for the church to arise and pray, to engage in the battle with them so the final celebration could take place.
God still speaks today through dreams and visions, but only those who have their hearts and spirits tuned to His Spirit will hear and receive all that God has for them.

7 Types of Christians God Can't Use - J. LEE GRADY CHARISMA NEWS

God can't use armchair Christians.

7 Types of Christians God Can't Use

God can't use armchair Christians. (iStock photo )
About 17 years ago I prayed a very dangerous prayer while lying on the floor of my church near Orlando. I repeated these words from Isaiah 6:8 : "Here am I. Send me." Then I cringed. I knew God would mess me up good in order to use me to touch others for Christ.
I wanted God to use me, but I was painfully aware that we don't just go out and start a ministry on our own terms. God bends and breaks those who speak for Him. He requires full surrender. I had to let go of fears, adjust attitudes and change priorities.
It has become popular today to suggest that God can use anybody. It's true that He does not show favoritism based on race, age, gender, marital history, past failures or income status. Yet His standards have never been lowered; He only uses humble, obedient, consecrated followers.
Many Christians will never be useful in the kingdom because of mindsets or behaviors that limit the flow of the Holy Spirit or, as the apostle Paul said in Galatians 2:21 (KJV), "frustrate the grace of God." I don't ever want to frustrate His grace! If you want God to use you, make sure you don't fall into any of these categories:
1. Driver's seat Christians. Jesus is not just our Savior; He is our Lord, and He wants to guide our decisions, direct our steps and overrule our selfish choices. There are many believers who enjoy the benefits of salvation yet they never yield control to God. If you want Him to use you, then you must slide over into the passenger seat and let Jesus drive. If you have a problem with willfulness, learn to pray: "Not my will, but Yours be done" (Luke 22:42, MEV).
2. Armchair critics. There are some people who roll up their sleeves and serve the Lord; there are others who make it their business to analyze and pick apart everyone who is doing God's work. The devil is the accuser, so if you are accusing others, you are operating in the spirit of Lucifer. The Holy Spirit does not work through people who are bitter, angry or judgmental.
3. Glass-half-empty pessimists. Many Christians today are worried about what sinners are doing, and some spend hours trying to predict when the Antichrist will arise or when the world will end. Meanwhile there are other Christians who focus on winning lost people to Jesus and showing His compassion to a broken world. Who do you think will bear more spiritual fruit—the doomsday pessimist or the hopeful evangelist?
4. Carnally minded Christians. It has become fashionable today for believers to lower the standard of moral behavior to the point that anything goes. Unmarried Christians are living together, some pastors are experimenting with adultery and some denominations have voted to sanction homosexual relationships. Don't be fooled. Just because more and more people are jumping on this trendy bandwagon does not mean God has rewritten His eternal Word.
People who live in blatant sin cannot be instruments of the Holy Spirit. 2 Timothy 2:21 says clearly: "One who cleanses himself from these things will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, fit for the Master's use, and prepared for every good work." Our usefulness to God is based on whether we have submitted to the process of sanctification. Holiness is not an option.
5. Church dropouts. I won't win a popularity contest by saying this, but it's true: God does not use people who have turned away from the church. Today it is fashionable to bash the church; some people have even established "ministries" to lure Christians away from church and into an isolated spiritual wilderness. Most of these church-bashers are bitter because they had a bad experience with a pastor.
I have only compassion for any victim of spiritual abuse. But no one has the right to tear down the work of God just because a spiritual leader hurt him. The church is God's Plan A, and He does not have an alternative. If we are going to be used by God, we must get connected to the church and learn to flow with its God-ordained leadership.
6. Timid cowards. When Paul sent Timothy to Ephesus to pioneer the church there, he exhorted him to break free from fear. He wrote: "Do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord" (2 Tim. 1:8). Fear has the power to paralyze. All those who surrender to the call of God must bravely open their mouths, defend the faith, risk their reputation and suffer rejection—and possible persecution. If you are afraid to share the gospel, repent of your fear and ask God for holy boldness.
7. Lazy spectators. Many Christians today think following God means clocking in for a 90-minute service before driving to the lake. We read quick devotions on our smart phones and breathe short prayers during our morning commutes. But somewhere in all this 21st century stress, we lost the meaning of discipleship.
If you want God to use you, you must take His call seriously and become a focused student of His Word and a passionate prayer warrior. The apostles of the first century declared: "But we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word" (Acts 6:4). Halfhearted people never changed the world. You must be devoted, committed and passionate if you want to make maximum spiritual impact.
