Joel C. Rosenberg: 69 bomb threats to Jewish Community Centers since January 1. Jewish cemeteries vandalized. Anti-Semitic attacks spiking.

New post on Joel C. Rosenberg's Blog

69 bomb threats to Jewish Community Centers since January 1. Jewish cemeteries vandalized. Anti-Semitic attacks spiking. President and top leaders speak out, call for action to protect Jewish people.

by joelcrosenberg
A vicious wave of anti-Semitism is hitting the United States
  • Just since the first of the year, nearly 70 Jewish Community Centers (JCCs) have received bomb threats.
  • Jewish cemeteries have been vandalized around the country -- in St. Louis alone in recent days, more than 100 headstones in a Jewish cemetery were destroyed.
  • Anti-Semitic attacks on American college campuses have nearly doubled, according to ADL.
Jewish, Christian and Muslim leaders are speaking out, as they should. So are the President, senior administration officials and Members of Congress, denouncing these attacks and calling for action to protect the Jewish people.
Over the weekend, in a show of solidarity with the suffering of the Jewish people, Vice President Mike Pence -- a devout Evangelical Christian -- took his family and advisors to the Dachau concentration camp in Germany.
"Today, 11 Jewish community centers received phoned-in bomb threats," reported the JCC Association of North America.
"This comes in the aftermath of three waves of bomb threats in January (Jan. 9Jan. 18, and Jan. 31), resulting in, through today, 69 incidents at 54 JCCs in 27 states and one Canadian province in total," the JCCANA reported.
"All bomb threats in both January and today have proven to be hoaxes, and all JCCs impacted have returned to regular operations." Thank God.
President Trump -- whose son-in-law, Jared Kushner, is Jewish, and whose daughter, Ivanka, converted to Judaism to marry him -- has been criticized for not speaking out faster or more forcefully.
But today he responded strongly, calling anti-Semitism is "horrible" and "painful" and said "we have to fight bigotry, intolerance and hatred in all its very ugly forms."
“The anti-Semitic threats targeting our Jewish community and community centers are horrible, and are painful, and a very sad reminder of the work that still must be done to root out hate and prejudice and evil,” the President said, according to the New York Times.
Such hate-driven attacks against Jewish people (or Muslims, or Christians, or atheists or anyone else) are so ugly and despicable. Let's be faithful in praying for them to stop, but let's also look for ways to take a stand against such hatred, and stand with -- and care for -- those who are suffering right now.
[I'll provide updates in the days and weeks ahead.]

Michael Youssef Warns of Impending Terrorism in the US: The Barbarians Are Here

PETER WOODING/ASSIST NEWS  CHARISMA NEWS
Join us on our podcast each weekday for an interesting story, well told, from Charisma News. Listen at charismapodcastnetwork.com.

While the debate continues over recent US immigration policy, Dr. Michael Youssef's latest book, The Barbarians Are Here, highlights the urgency for Christians to respond to the current crisis of radical Islamic terrorist attacks in the West.
"For decades, Westerners were vaguely aware that Islamist barbarians were in the deserts of the Middle East, executing infidels and raiding villages with unrecognizable names. Then came the terrorist attacks of 9/11, followed by attacks at the Boston Marathon, San Bernardino and more. Now terrorists seem to be emerging everywhere, unleashing senseless death and destruction on our nation. They are here, and their goal is nothing less than global conquest," said Dr. Youssef. "There is hope to overcome the threat Islam poses to the free world—but we must act now before it is too late."
He added: "This book is not an assault on Muslim people. I love Muslims and have all my life. This is why, with God's help, I founded a ministry which is now actively proclaiming the gospel, discipling the lost and helping the persecuted throughout the Muslim world. However, I am not afraid to call Islamic terrorists what they are."
Of the more than 40 books he has written, Dr. Youssef believes that The Barbarians Are Here is the most important book he has ever written: "This book is the culmination of my 42 years in the ordained ministry. It is the apex of my passion to reach the lost for Christ and proclaim the gospel of the truth of Jesus Christ. I say this not out of pride or because of something that I have done, but because its message is a burden that God has placed on my heart."
Even before its official March 7 release, the book has already seen an overwhelming response, with hundreds of thousands tuning in to a TV special and ordering the book, already making it a top seller in its genre.
Lieutenant Colonel Allen B. West, Executive Director at the National Center for Policy Analysis, has commended the book for its bold insights, saying: "The world has witnessed a policy of delusion, appeasement and denial when it comes to engaging the global Islamic jihad movement. Dr. Michael Youssef sounds the clarion call on this clear and present danger, providing a critical exegesis of what we must do."
R. Albert Mohler, Jr, President of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, has also provided a strong endorsement of The Barbarians Are Here, and said: "This book is an illuminating discussion of the times and of the challenges Islam poses to the advance of the gospel. Let this book shape how you think, pray and take the gospel to the ends of the earth."
Dr. Youssef concluded: "We are not doomed to destruction, even though the barbarians are already here. But we haven't a moment to lose. I want to urge you with every ounce of my being—read this book."

Virtually Everyone Agrees That Current Stock Market Valuations Are Not Sustainable And That A Great Crash Is Coming - Michael Snyder THE ECONOMIC COLLAPSE BLOG

Stock Market Collapse Toilet Paper - Public Domain

Posted: 21 Feb   Michael Snyder  THE ECONOMIC COLLAPSE BLOG

Current stock market valuations are not sustainable.  If there is one thing that I want you to remember from this article, it is that cold, hard fact.  In 1929, 2000 and 2008, stock prices soared to absolutely absurd levels just before horrible stock market crashes.  What goes up must eventually come down, and the stock market bubble of today will be no exception.  In fact, virtually everyone in the financial community acknowledges that stock prices are irrationally high right now.  Some are suggesting that there is still time to jump in and make money before the crash comes, while others are recommending a much more cautious approach.  But what almost everyone agrees on is the fact that stocks cannot go up like this forever.

On Tuesday, the Dow, the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq all set brand new record highs once again.  Overall, U.S. stocks are now up more than 10 percent since the election, and this is probably the greatest post-election stock market rally in our entire history.

But stocks were already tremendously overvalued before the election, and at this point stock prices have reached a level of ridiculousness only matched a couple of times before in the past 100 years.

Only the most extreme optimists will try to tell you that stock prices can stay this disconnected from economic reality indefinitely.  We are in the midst of one of the most outrageous stock market bubbles of all time, and as MarketWatch has noted, all stock market bubbles eventually burst…
The U.S. stock market at this level reflects a combination of great demand, great complacency, and great greed. Stocks are clearly in a bubble, and like all bubbles, this one is about to burst.
If corporations were making tremendous amounts of money, rapidly rising stock prices would make logical sense.

But that is not the case at all.  Corporate earnings for the fourth quarter of 2016 were actually quite dismal, and this disconnect between Wall Street and economic reality is starting to really bug financial analysts such as Brian Sozzi
The S&P 500 has gone 89 straight sessions without a 1% decline. Considering that Corporate America didn’t exactly light up on the top and bottom lines during the fourth quarter, such a streak is rather troublesome. Granted, the stock market is a forward-looking mechanism that appears to be trading on hopes that Trump’s unannounced stimulus and tax plans will be lifting economic growth in 2018. Even so, the inability of investors to at least acknowledge persistent struggles among companies and ongoing chaos in Washington is starting to become disturbing.
It is a basic fact of economics that stock prices should accurately reflect current and future earnings.

So if corporate earnings are at the same level they were at in 2011, why has the S&P 500 risen by 87 percent since then?  The following comes from Wolf Richter
The S&P 500 stock index edged up to an all-time high of 2,351 on Friday. Total market capitalization of the companies in the index exceeds $20 trillion. That’s 106% of US GDP, for just 500 companies! At the end of 2011, the S&P 500 index was at 1,257. Over the five-plus years since then, it has ballooned by 87%!
These are superlative numbers, and you’d expect superlative earnings performance from these companies. Turns out, reality is not that cooperative. Instead, net income of the S&P 500 companies is now back where it first had been at the end of 2011.
The cyclically adjusted price-to-earnings ratio was originally created by author Robert Shiller, and it is widely regarded as one of the best measures of the true value of stocks in existence.  According to the Guardian, there have only been two times in our entire history when this ratio has been higher.  One was just before the stock market crash of 1929, and the other was just before the bursting of the dotcom bubble…
Traditionally, one of the best yardsticks for whether shares are over-valued or under-valued has been the cyclically adjusted price earnings ratio constructed by the economist Robert Shiller. This ratio is currently at about 29 and has only twice been higher: in 1929 ahead of the Wall Street Crash, and in the last frantic months of the dotcom bubble of the late 1990s.
We can definitely wish for the current euphoria on Wall Street to last for as long as possible, but let there be absolutely no doubt that it is going to end at some point.

It would take a market decline of 40 or 50 percent to get the cyclically adjusted price-to-earnings ratio back to a level that makes economic sense.  Let us hope that the market does not make such a violent move very rapidly, because that would likely be absolutely crippling for our financial system.

Markets tend to go down a lot faster than they go up, and every other major stock market bubble in U.S. history has ended very badly.

And this bubble is definitely overdue to burst.  The bull market that led up to the great crash of 1929 lasted for 2002 days, and this week the current bull market will finally exceed that record.

Trying to pick a specific date for a market crash is typically a fruitless exercise, but market watchers are becoming very concerned about some of the signs that we are now seeing.  For example, the “CCT indicator” is currently showing “the lowest bullish energy ever”
The first factor is the CCT indicator. This indicator is a proprietary internal measurement of the general volume of the New York Stock Exchange. The measurements take into account the institutional participation as a ratio of the overall volume. Also measured is the duration of heavy block buying in rallies.
The sum total of all the measurements now shows the lowest bullish energy ever — even lower than in 2008, just before the market crash.
In other words, this current bull market appears to be completely and utterly exhausted.
The laws of economics cannot be defied forever.  Traditionally, commodity prices and stock prices have tended to move in unison.  And this makes perfect sense, because commodity prices tend to rise when economic conditions are good, and in such an environment stock prices are typically going to move up.

But now we are in a time when commodity prices and stock prices have become completely disconnected.  In order to bring this ratio back into line, the S&P 500 would need to fall by about 1000 points, and such a decline would cause a level of financial chaos that would be absolutely unprecedented.

This current stock market bubble has lasted much longer than many of the experts originally anticipated, but that just means that the eventual crash will likely be that much more devastating.

In the end, you don’t need to know all of the technical details in this article.

But what you do need to know is that current stock market valuations are not sustainable and that a great crash is coming.

It may not happen next week or next month, but it is going to happen.  And when it does happen, it is likely to make what happened in 2008 look like a Sunday picnic.

Archaeologists to Excavate Ancient City Where Ark of the Covenant May Have Rested

JENNY ROSE CURTIS  CHARISMA NEWS
Standing With Israel
Researchers are preparing to excavate Kiryat Ye'arim, an ancient biblical site believed to be where the Philistines kept the ark for a time after capturing it in battle (1 Sam. 5).
Kiryat Ye'arim, translated Kiriath Jearim, is known in the Bible as a Judean town near Jerusalem during the time of Israel's ancient judges, according to reports.
The archaeological project in Kiryat Ye'arim, led by Tel Aviv University and College de France, will last Aug. 7-Sept. 1, reports say.
Israel Finkelstein, one of the project's overseers, hopes the dig will unearth important information about the city's ancient people.
The site has been largely untouched before now, reports the Times of Israel. Some believe the site once contained an ancient pagan temple, the remains of which may still rest underground.
The book of 1 Samuel recounts the ark of the covenant was kept at Kiryat Ye'arim for 20 years after the Philistines returned it. The Philistines had stolen the ark after defeating the Israelites in battle, but the Lord inflicted them with plagues until the ark rested in Israel once again (1 Sam. 5-6).
But Jeremiah prophesied a day in which God's people would forget about the ark of the covenant.
"It shall come to pass when you are multiplied and increased in the land in those days, says the Lord, they will say no more, 'The ark of the covenant of the Lord.' And it will not come to mind, nor will they remember it, nor will they call for it, nor will it be made any more. At that time they will call Jerusalem, the Throne of the Lord, and all the nations will be gathered to it, to Jerusalem, for the name of the Lord; nor will they walk any more after the stubbornness of their evil hearts" (Jer. 3:16-17).
What does this excavation mean prophetically? Sound off in the comments below!

Church Fails to Give Moral Lead - Charles Gardner ISRAEL TODAY

Church Fails to Give Moral Lead

Wednesday, February 22, 2017 |  Charles Gardner  ISRAEL TODAY
The Church of England has once again failed to give a moral lead to the nation.
Their Synod (parliament) has voted against the Bishops’ recommendation that, in the face of huge pressure to allow same-sex ‘equality’, they should continue to take the traditional view of marriage.
Those within the church desperately trying to honour the clear biblical teaching – that a man shall leave his father and mother and be united to his wife (Genesis 2.24) – have reached a discouraging impasse.
Is it not time to say: ‘enough is enough’? Undermining the authority of the Bible only leads to heresy within and confusion without. Sure, the watching world sees a church divided, and some would say that is a bad witness. But there are surely issues over which it is impossible to compromise.
Endless debates create much heat, but bear little fruit. What, after all, is there left to debate? If the choice is whether or not to follow Scripture, then the advice from the Apostle Paul is: “Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.” (2 Corinthians 6.17) Those pushing for same-sex marriage are surely touching something ‘unclean’.
At the end of the day, we will all stand before God to give account of the decisions we have made or haven’t made. (Romans 14.12)
The letters to the seven churches of Asia recorded in the Book of Revelation give as much emphasis on teaching as on behaviour – the key doctrines of Christian belief are hugely important.
The Apostle John, in his first letter, reminds his hearers that those who were spreading false teaching had come from within the churches. “They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us,” he wrote. (1 John 2.19)
Heresy was a great danger in the early church, just as Jesus predicted it would be in these latter days. When his disciples asked him about signs of the end of the age, the first thing he said was: “Watch out that no-one deceives you.” (Matthew 24.4.)
Yes, Jesus prayed passionately for unity among his followers. It was never meant to be unity at any cost, however, but the sort of oneness about which Paul spoke in his letter to the Ephesians when he explained that the apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers were there “to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature…” (Ephesians 4.12f)
The context is clearly about developing maturity within the body of Christ as disciples learn to walk in harmony with the Word of God.
But because the modern church has failed to give a moral lead on the issue of homosexuality, the entire Western world is now in the grip of ‘redefining marriage’, if that is really possible.
We have seen the same thing happen over Israel. Undermining the authority of the Bible has led to the heresy of ‘replacement theology’, teaching that the church has replaced Israel in God’s affections. As a result, there is very little understanding of Israel in the UK church today, and yet God’s end-time purpose is for Jew and Gentile to work together for the gospel! How far we have fallen behind God’s programme!
Tragically, the church has succumbed wholesale to worldliness, ignoring the Bible’s directive: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12.2)
For example, as the mainstream media demonizes President Trump as a fool and a fascist, Christians will all too willingly pick that up without considering whether the truth may well have been stretched and muddied.
Lynne Patton, a black female executive for the Trump Organization, released a statement last year defending her boss against accusations of being a racist and a bigot, tearfully revealing how she’s struggled with substance abuse and addiction for years. But instead of kicking her to the curb, she said that Trump and his entire family loyally stood by her through “immensely difficult times.”
This was revealed in an article by Liz Crokin, an entertainment correspondent who has been reporting for the past ten years on Trump – especially over his involvement in The Apprentice TV show.
“Trump’s kindness knows no bounds and his generosity has and continues to touch the lives of people from every sex, race and religion,” she wrote. “When Trump sees someone in need, he wants to help.”[1]
Isn’t it time we re-committed ourselves to seeking the truth, perfectly demonstrated in Jesus Christ – “the way, the truth and the life”? (John 14.6)
