Hamas-Led Gaza Mobs Fly Nazi Flag in Confronting Israel - Israel Today

Hamas-Led Gaza Mobs Fly Nazi Flag in Confronting Israel

Sunday, April 08, 2018 |  Israel Today Staff
In most Western countries, a demonstration that utilizes Nazi imagery would never be characterized as "peaceful" in nature because, well, the Nazi agenda is anything but peaceful.
So, one must wonder why the international mainstream media is busy describing the Palestinian demonstrations along the Gaza security fence in such terms.
Forget the thousands of burning tires, the hurling of stones and firebombs and the underreported use of guns and makeshift explosives. The fact that those participating in Friday's Gaza riot flew a flag adorned with a swastika should tell one everything he or she needs to know about the nature of this "peaceful demonstration."
But, just in case the message was lost in translation, Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu clarified:
"I salute the soldiers of the IDF who keep us safe…from those who pretend to speak of human rights, while holding a Nazi flag. Here is the naked truth. They speak of human rights, but they really want to crush the Jewish state. We won’t let them. We’ll stand strong. We’ll keep our country safe."
The Nazi flag and the ideology behind it mean but one thing for both Israel and the Palestinian nationalist movement - the eradication of the Jewish people.

Saudi Columnist Says Trump Right to Recognize Israel's Claims to Jerusalem - Israel Today

Saudi Columnist Says Trump Right to Recognize Israel's Claims to Jerusalem

While much of the Arab world predictably reacted with outrage to US President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, a number of leading Arab intellectuals took a very different position.
Among them was Abdulhameed Hakeem, head of the Middle East Center for Strategic and Legal Studies in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
While Riyadh publicly decried Trump's announcement, the Saudi regime did not engage in long-winded rants against Israeli control over Jerusalem, prompting many to wonder where the oil-rich kingdom really stood on the issue.
In an interview on the US-based al-Hurra Arabic-language TV channel, Hakeem tried to clarify why Trump's decision actually met with muted acceptance, even some degree of appreciation, in Saudi Arabia:
"The decision will prompt a positive shock towards moving the stagnant water surrounding negotiations. We, as Arabs, have to come an understanding with the other side and know what its demands are so that we can succeed in peace negotiation efforts."
Hakeem even went so far as to recognize the historical and religious connection of the Jewish people to Jerusalem:
"We have to admit and realize that Jerusalem is a religious symbol for the Jews that is just as holy for them as Mecca and Medina are for Muslims.
"Arab mentality must free itself from the heritage of Gamal Abdel Nasser and political Islam of both the Sunni and Shia sects, which has instilled for purely political interests the culture of hating Jews and denying their historic right in the region."
The positions held by Hakeem and other Saudi intellectuals like him is one of the reasons Israelis are increasingly open to Saudi Arabia taking a leading role in the Middle East peace process.

Russian Military Buildup in Syria Concerns Israel

Russian Military Buildup in Syria Concerns Israel

Thursday, September 10, 2015 |  Israel Today Staff
Israeli officials have expressed concern over reports of a major Russian military buildup in neighboring Syria, a move that could have far-reaching ramifications for the Jewish state.
A number of sources have recently noted a major influx of Russian personnel and equipment, including fighter jets, into war-torn Syria, presumably to prop up the embattled regime of Bashar Assad.
“We have been informed that the Russians are entering into active intervention,” Amos Gilad, senior adviser to Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon, said at a recent security conference.
Ram Ben-Barak, director-general of Israel’s Intelligence Ministry, told Reuters that this development “could [have] ramifications for us, certainly.”
The first, and most obvious, concern is that periodic Israeli strikes on Syrian targets could inadvertently result in Russian casualties, bringing Jerusalem and Moscow into direct conflict.
Israel has launched numerous air strikes on Syrian regime military convoys suspected of transferring advanced weapons to its Hezbollah allies. The IDF has also routinely returned fire into Syria any time Syrian ordnance hits the Israeli Golan Heights.
An additional reason for worry is that this development further highlights the waning influence and power of America in the Middle East.
At the same time, ISIS and the other jihadist forces currently tearing the region apart need to be stopped, and many living here feel America and other Western powers are doing far too little to make that happen.
