The Pilgrimage to Jerusalem ✡ "All Thy Males Appear Before Hashem Thy God" - ISRAEL365

Three times in a year shall all thy males appear
before Hashem thy God in the place which He shall choose; on the feast of unleavened bread,
and on the Shavuot, and on the Sukkot;
and they shall not appear before Hashem empty.

Shabbat Inspiration

The Hebrew word ‘shalosh’ means three. Three indicates a strong unit or bond, as it says in Ecclesiastes (4:12), “A chain of three cannot be undone.” Perhaps for this reason there are three times a year when every Jew is commanded to make a pilgrimage to the Temple in Jerusalem and appear before God. This guarantees that he will re-connect with his Creator at least three times a year, ensuring that the bonds between them remain strong and will not be undone. Today, tens of thousands of Jews make the pilgrimage by foot to the Western Wall in Jerusalem. The Israeli climate often leaves these pilgrims tired and hungry upon their arrival at the Western Wall. Colel Chabad generously provides food and water for these pilgrims to alleviate their discomfort and allow for them to worship and pray happily and without physical distraction.

Celebrating Sukkot With God ✡ "Appear Before the Lord" - ISRAEL365

Sukkot stands out from the other pilgrimage holidays in that its celebration was not limited to Jews. Rather, bull offerings were brought on behalf of all 70 nations of the world during the Feast of Tabernacles. This served as a mighty display of universal solidarity and worship of the One True God of Israel.

Redemption Tambourine

Miriam the prophetess led the Israelite women as they traveled through the desert towards Israel. Miriam prepared to take musical instruments with her on the journey into the desert in order to thank God for His miracles with song, when the time would arrive, thus demonstrating her unwavering faith in God's redemption. The tambourine has come to symbolize our anticipation and faith in the future redemption.
