Hashem will take Yehuda to Himself as His portion in the HolyLand, and He will choose Yerushalayim once more Zechariah 2:16 (The Israel Bible™) וְנָחַל יְהוָה אֶת־יְהוּדָה חֶלְקוֹ עַל אַדְמַת הַקֹּדֶשׁ וּבָחַר עוֹד בִּירוּשָׁלִָם Hear the verse in Hebrew v’-na-KHAL a-do-NAI et y’-hu-DAH khel-KO AL ad-MAT ha-KO-desh u-va-KHAR OD bee-ru-sha-LA-im God's Love of the Land There are many explanations of the meaning of the name Yerushalayim (ירושלים), the Hebrew for Jerusalem.  According to the Sages, the name Yerushalayim comes from the words Yirah (יראה) and Shalem (שלם). Yirah is the Hebrew word for awe, and shalemmeans complete. According to this interpretation, the name Yerushalayim means to completely submit oneself to Hashem (God). This holy city is so special and beloved to man because Hashem loves it so much. For My people have done a twofold wrong:They have forsaken Me, the Fount of living waters, And hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, Which cannot even hold water Jeremiah 2:13 (The Israel Bible™) כִּי־שְׁתַּיִם רָעוֹת עָשָׂה עַמִּי אֹתִי עָזְבוּ מְקוֹר מַיִם חַיִּים לַחְצֹב לָהֶם בֹּארוֹת בֹּארֹת נִשְׁבָּרִים אֲשֶׁר לֹא־יָכִלוּ הַמָּיִם Hear the verse in Hebrew kee sh’-TA-yim ra-OT a-SAH a-MEE o-TEE a-z’-VU m’-KOR MA-yim kha-YEEM lakh-TZOV la-HEM bo-ROT bo-ROT nish-ba-REEM a-SHER lo ya-KHI-lu ha-MA-yim   Hashem's Living Waters In the times of the Prophet Yirmiyahu (Jeremiah), natural springs provided water for the ancient Israelites. Some people also carved out cisterns in which to store the rain to ensure they would have enough to drink. Inevitably these man-made cisterns would crack and the water would be lost. Yirmiyahu compares Hashem to a fountain of natural spring water, while false gods are likened to cracked cisterns. Today's Israel Inspiration Why did Hashem choose Jerusalem as His resting place? The Sages provided two Biblical passages which together teach us the significance of Jerusalem. In Genesis, Abraham was tested by God and asked to sacrifice his son. This test took place on a mountain which Abraham called "Adonai yir'eh" meaning 'on the mount where Hashem is seen' (Genesis 22:14). Years earlier, Abraham proved his allegiance to justice when he fought against the Four Kings and saved his nephew Lot. After that battle, Melchizedek, the King of Shalem, went out to greet Abraham and bless Hashem (Genesis 14:18-20). The names Yir'eh and Shalem, when combined, form Yerushalayim.
