Lessons from the Lights in the Sky
"Hashem made the two great lights, the greater light to dominate the day and the lesser light to dominate the night, and the stars."
(Genesis 1:16, The Israel Bible™)
On the fourth day of creation, Hashem (God) created the great luminaries of the sky. The sun and moon not only fill essential roles in the sustainability of the universe, they also impart valuable life lessons. The sun is a constant source of light and energy. Everyday the same fiery ball rises in the sky. The character of the moon however, is very different. The moon’s appearance constantly changes throughout the month. At some points, the moon is full, round and luminous. At other points, it appears as a tiny, fading, silver crescent. Even when the moon seems to have completely disappeared from the sky, it is not long before it reappears in all of its glory. It is very fitting that the Jewish calendar, holidays and festivals are based on the lunar calendar. The moon symbolizes the Jewish people; even in times of trial, tribulation and darkness, the Jewish people maintain their faith in Hashem and are ultimately always restored to their original glory. Study the full chapter of Genesis 1 >>
