The Legacy of Sara ✡ "Avraham Buried His Wife Sara In The Cave Of The Field Of Machpelah"- Israel365

And then Avraham buried his wife Sara in the cave of the field of Machpelah, facing Mamre—now Hebron—in the land of Canaan.

וְאַחֲרֵי־כֵן קָבַר אַבְרָהָם אֶת־שָׂרָה אִשְׁתּוֹ אֶל־מְעָרַת שְׂדֵה הַמַּכְפֵּלָה עַל־פְּנֵי מַמְרֵא הִוא חֶבְרוֹן בְּאֶרֶץ כְּנָעַן

This week's Torah Portion is 'Chayei Sarah' in which we read about the death and burial of Sara in the city of Hebron. Nachmanides, a leading 12th century Jewish scholar, wrote that the Hebrew name for Hebron (חברון) is a contraction of the words chaver (חבר), ‘friend,’ and the word na–eh (נאה) ‘beloved.’ The very name of the holy city of Hebron alludes to its most famous resident Abraham who was the first beloved friend of Hashem as it says in Isaiah 41:8 "Seed of Abraham my friend." My son was friends with a elderly couple that he helped out , the Josephson's, and when they went back to Israel they planted a date tree in her memory . My son John Michael was taught so much by them when he moved to Kansas and took him under their wing which helped him become a witness to everyone he comes in contact with. I'm so honored to say I'm his mom. She never had children so I shared him and said he could be her spiritual mother and I his earthly mom. She was so happy. Netanyahu Announces New Settlement Construction

In a move that is certain to draw international criticism, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has approved the construction of new housing units for Jewish settlements in the so-called "West Bank."

Some 3,800 homes will soon be built in disputed areas like the Jewish sectors of Hebron. The approval was granted subject to consultation with the US government.

An understanding between Netanyahu and President Trump whereby Israel seeks American approval for any new settlement construction is expected to bring an end to the routine condemnation that flowed from the Obama Administration.

As part of the understanding, the Americans will no longer differentiate between large settlement blocs and smaller, more isolated Jewish communities. For instance, the small Jewish neighborhood in the heart of Hebron is expected to gain approval for 30 new housing units, a major breakthrough for the Jewish residents of Judaism's second holiest city.
