Netanyahu: Israel's New Secret Weapon Presents 'Existential Threat' to Our Enemies - Israel Today
Netanyahu: Israel's New Secret Weapon Presents 'Existential Threat' to Our Enemies
Friday, April 07, 2017 | Israel Today Staff
Israel this week officially unveiled a not-so-secret secret weapon it has been working on with the US defense industry for some years.
The entry into service of the David’s Sling anti-missile system completes Israel’s multi-tier missile shield.
Already for years the Iron Dome has been protecting southern Israel from short-range rockets and mortar shells.
The Arrow system recently went into service to defend Israel against long-range ballistic missiles. It was utilized a week ago to defend Israeli warplanes on a mission over Syria from enemy anti-aircraft.
David’s Sling is intended to fill the gap between the Iron Dome and the Arrow by knocking down the type of medium-range missiles of which Lebanon’s Hezbollah is believed to have tens of thousands.
With this multi-tier missile shield in place, Israel’s enemies are unlikely to do much damage to her, but would not survive a serious Israeli counterattack.
And that’s why Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned during the ceremony for the David’s Sling:
“Whoever tries to strike us will be hit, those that threaten our existence put themselves in existential danger.”

Anti-Missile Defense Shield - Israel Today
Israel Completes Multi-Tier Anti-Missile Defense Shield
Monday, April 03, 2017 | Israel Today Staff
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attended the ceremony marking the operational integration of the David's Sling air defense system on Sunday at the Hatzor Air Force Base in southern Israel.
The three tiers of Israel's anti-missile defense technology now comprises of Iron Dome, which covers short range rockets and missiles (up to 70km range), David's Sling the medium range system (70 – 300km range), and the Arrow III exoatmospheric anti-ballistic missile system.
David's Sling was developed over the last 10 years by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems in cooperation with the IDF, as an answer to medium range kamikazi drones, rockets and missile fire. Unlike Iron Dome, which is stationary and defends specific areas of Israel, David's Sling is portable, providing national coverage.

Israel Didn’t Expect This Miracle Just Seconds Before A Hamas Rocket Almost Killed Hundreds - JewNews
Israel Didn’t Expect This Miracle Just Seconds Before A Hamas Rocket Almost Killed Hundreds
JewNews AUG 06, 2014
An Israeli commander claimed that hundreds of Israeli lives were saved recently when “the hand of God” stopped a Hamas rocket.
A missile was fired from Gaza. Iron Dome precisely calculated [its trajectory]. We know where these missiles are going to land down to a radius of 200 meters. This particular missile was going to hit either the Azrieli Towers, the Kirya (Israel’s equivalent of the Pentagon) or [a central Tel Aviv railway station]. Hundreds could have died.
We fired the first [interceptor]. It missed. Second [interceptor]. It missed. This is very rare. I was in shock. At this point we had just four seconds until the missile lands. We had already notified emergency services to converge on the target location and had warned of a mass-casualty incident.
Suddenly, Iron Dome (which calculates wind speeds, among other things) shows a major wind coming from the east, a strong wind that … sends the missile into the sea. We were all stunned. I stood up and shouted, ‘There is a God!’
One Hamas member was asked why they couldn’t aim their rockets better and actually hit an Israeli target. He responded: “We do aim them, but their God changes their path in mid-air.”
The first prime minister of Israel, David Ben Gurion, said this once: “In Israel, in order to be a realist, you must believe in miracles.”
There are in fact hundreds of stories of the 1967 and 1973 wars Israel engaged that told of God’s intervention.
One news source called Arutz Sheva said it well:
The Jewish nation’s existence for six millennia is a miracle. There is no single Jewish life without a miracle. Miracle is an essential part of our belief; it is a gem of Jewish folklore. It is a source of our hope in the dark, and it is a gift of our dreams. And we know why – because these miracles are true.

French Lawmaker: Israel's On the Front Line!
French Lawmaker: Israel's On the Front Line!
Thursday, September 04, 2014 | Yossi Aloni ISRAEL TODAY
In a sharply-worded letter sent late last month, French parliamentarian Meyer Habib (pictured) slammed French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius for accusing Israel of war crimes in Gaza, even as his boss, President Francois Hollande, struck a far different tone.
Habib noted in his letter that early in the Gaza war the French government “fully identified with Israel and its right to defend its citizens. …We prevented a number of anti-Israel and anti-Semitic demonstrations…in order to change France’s position in regards to Israel.”
But, it seemed Fabius was not happy with this new direction. “You speak of a massacre in Gaza. You speak of a lack of vision,” Habib accused the foreign minister. “Instead of helping to calm the situation, you pour oil on the fire.”
Habib noted that such anti-Israel incitement lead to the March 2012 shooting at a Jewish school in Toulouse, France by a Muslim gunman, Mohammed Merah, who later acknowledged that his motivation was revenge for “the Jews killing our brothers and sisters in Palestine [sic].”
Habib also took issue with Western criticism of Israel’s “lack of proportionality,” which Fabius happily parroted.
“You forget that without the Iron Dome, the thousands of rockets fired at Israel would have resulted in hundreds of deaths. Would that have made Israel’s response more balanced?” Habib wondered.
“Who is truly responsible for this tragedy [in Gaza]?” Habib asked his foreign minister. “Is it the one who attacks civilians while hiding in schools, or is it the one that does everything possible to avoid civilian casualties?”
Habib stressed that the threat Israelis face in the form of Hamas is also bearing down on France and the West.
“The jihadists that attack Israel today are the same as those that abducted Christian girls in Nigeria, slaughtered Alawites in Syria and executed homosexuals in Somalia,” wrote Habib. “They are the same extremists that oppress women in Iraq, behead Western journalist and threaten Christians and Yazidis.”
Habib concluded by calling on Fabius and the West to “open your eyes! This wave [of terror] will reach the heart of Europe… In the battle against these forces of evil, Israel is on the front line.”

- Rocket sirens sounded in Jerusalem, Mevasseret, Beit Shemesh, Gush Etzion, Ashdod, Rechovot, Be’er Sheva, Ashkelon, Har Hebron as Gaza terrorists launched a barrage of 30 long-range missiles at Israel. Approximately 70 rockets and missiles were launched at Israel between noon and 10 pm, with 10 of the missiles launched between 8 pm and 9 pm.
Soroka Medical Center in Be’er Sheva — a favored target of Gaza terrorists — began moving its baby ward to the hospital’s bomb shelter earlier Monday evening.
Israel public radio reported that one missile exploded near the Jerusalem suburb of Beit Shemesh, west of the capital.
One Israeli sustained a shrapnel wound from a rocket that exploded north of Ashdod.
Rocket fire came as fast as every five minutes at one point. Home Front Command has ordered all residents within 40 kilometers to stay within 15 seconds of bomb shelters.
No day camps on Tuesday and public shelters are ordered open in Be’er Sheva, Ashkelon, Ashdod and all cities within the 40 kilometer zone.
Rocket fire came as fast as every five minutes, with the Code Red incoming rocket alert activating in central Israel as well as in the south.
Residents in communities such as Mevasseret Zion, Rehovot, Yavneh and elsewhere found themselves suddenly racing for shelter – a trip some of them have never taken before.
Home Front Command ordered all residents within 40 kilometers to stay within 15 seconds of bomb shelters.
Day camps are to be closed on Tuesday and public shelters are to be open in towns and cities across the south, including Be’er Sheva, Ashkelon and Ashdod. Israelis have been ordered to limit all events to a maximum of 500 participants in order to minimize the risk of danger in case there is need to race to shelter.
Iron Dome anti-missile batteries have been deployed in strategic positions around the entire nation as Israel prepares itself to meet the challenge of dealing with the escalation in rocket and missile fire from Gaza.
The Security Cabinet decided after a three hour meeting Monday afternoon to authorize a total call up of 1,500 reservists, in a gradual process linked to the rate of escalation in attacks from Gaza. The force of Israel’s retaliation will likewise be linked to Gaza’s escalation, warned Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.
