Loving Israel Biblically - Ze'ev Nevo

Loving Israel Biblically

Shalom

There are millions of Christians that say that they love Israel and the Jewish people. But do they really? What would be the  determining factor for us to identify a true Biblical love for Israel? The answer to this question can only be found in the Bible  itself.

Here I am, sitting in a big Christian event that is held to honor Israel. Christian leaders flew across the nation to take part in this special event. The Israeli flag is raised. The Israeli national hymn - Ha'Tikvah (meaning "the hope" in Hebrew) - is being sung. Passionate speeches are being spoken, emphasizing the fact that the land of Israel was given by God to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob -- to the Jewish People.

You would assume that being a Jewish Israeli believer in Jesus-Yeshua, I would be overjoyed and encouraged to see such love and support from Christians for my people and my nation. After all, why shouldn't I be? Isn't it a blessing that so many Christians come together to show their unwavering support for Israel? Especially when at the same time so many US churches fall captive to false theology and extremely distorted historical facts and see Israel as an evil occupying oppressor?

As strange as it may sound to some at first, not just that I wasn't filled joy, I actually felt very uncomfortable all through the event, eventually  leaving with very cumbersome emotions, yet - more determined than ever to be used by God for Israel's sake!

So what is my problem? Why am I not satisfied? Let me tell you why. The attendees of this event were not just Christians; there were many Jewish people as well -- unsaved Jewish people. Also, not all the speakers were Christians; some of them were Jewish officials - yes, you guessed it right -- unsaved Jewish officials. Yet, absolutely nothing was mentioned throughout the entire event about the need for all people, Jews and Gentiles alike, to place their faith in Jesus-Yeshua, the Jewish Messiah of Israel! Not even a hint of it! Actually the message was quite the opposite. Every pair of Jewish ears that were there left with a clear message that Jews don'tneed to believe in Jesus-Yeshua.

Let me give you just one of the "highlights" of the evening. One of the speakers mentioned that his desire is to show the Jewish people something that they never saw before from Christians -LOVE. It was evident that in his mind he is trying to compensate for the Anti-Semitic horrors that were done to the Jewish people by the "Church" throughout history, demonstrated in the crusades ("Die because you killed God"), the Spanish inquisition ("Be baptized or Die") and finally in the Holocaust ("DIE! DIE! DIE!")

His solution is to show the Jewish people that there are Christians that actually don't want Jews to "convert" to Christianity, don't want Jews to be baptized - and more surprising - don't want Jews to die. Yes, there are Christians that simply "love" the Jewish people. Thus, his message is "We love you, we support you, we bless you."

But is this the message of the Bible? Is this the message of the Gospel? Is this the message that Jesus-Yeshua commissioned us to go and preach?? Is this a Biblical expression of love towards the Jewish people??? Clearly not!!!

This page cannot contain the almost endless list of verses that prove that Jews, like any other human beings, are sinners in need of a Savior that will save them from their sins. Why go far? A simple look at the first chapter of the first Gospel makes it as clear as possible. In Matthew chapter 1 we read that the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in his dream and said to him: "Joseph son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name YESHUA, for he will save his people from their sins."

You see, His name carries the purpose of His mission. God named His son, the Jewish Messiah of Israel - YESHUA - which in Hebrew meansSalvation. Why? Well... because HE will SAVEHIS PEOPLE FROM THEIR SINS.

Again, this basic Biblical truth, which is really the cornerstone of the Christian faith, can be easily proven by the Word of God with hundreds of verses, both from the Old Testament and the New Testament. I find it amazing that people that read the Bible and even write countless books about the Bible, even specifically about what the Bible says concerning Israel, can be blind to this fundamental truth.

We know from scripture that "the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the Gospel, of the glory of Christ, who  is this image of God." (2 Cor. 2:4). Apparently, not just that the god of this world blinds the Jewish people from seeing the light of the Gospel, he also blinds the minds of Christians - even Christians that "love Israel" - from understanding that they are called to love Israel  by sharing with them the Gospel, the message of GOD'S LOVE, as beautifully worded in John 3:16: "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that WHOEVER believes in Him should NOT PERISH but have ETERNAL LIFE."

Yes, "whoever" does not exclude the Jewish people! And yes -- without faith in YESHUA every Jewish soul will PERISH!!

So let's concentrate on what you and I can do to be the ones that LOVE ISRAEL BIBLICALLY. Simply put - give them the Gospel! And that's exactly what we do. As I shared on February's newsletter, we launched the "HEAR O ISRAEL" campaign - a cutting edge visual presentation of the Gospel of Matthew IN HEBREW on YouTube, a video per chapter.

Thanks to a few very generous donations we are able to move forward with a good number of chapters. If you haven't seen the Matthew chapter one video yet, here it is! Just click on the screen image below to watch. Let me warn you though -- it is in Hebrew! ...but thankfully we added English subtitles :) After you watch it, please don't forget to Like, Comment, and SHARE with everyone you know! I mean everyone!!

Watch the Video

Next month I will share an exciting report on how God is already using it among Israelis before we even had the chance to promote it!

We still need funds to be able to create and share more chapters of Matthew's Gospel with Israel. The cost turns out to be just about $100 per verse. Steve, please help us to
LOVE ISRAEL BIBLICALLY by sharing the Word of God with the people of Israel in the most effective way possible today - via YouTube!

Whether you are able to fund one verse today, one verse per month, or perhaps even a whole chapter (31 verses on average) -- your
Love Offering to Israel is highly needed and appreciated. Let's do it!

And one more thing before I go... to help you create more opportunities to share the Gospel with people around you, we made two "conversation sparking" T-Shirts that can now be purchased on our website. One says "For God so loved Y'all" (which is a hit in the south!) and the other says "Jesus made me Kosher". Click on the images to take a closer look!

For God so loved Y'all T-Shirt - Get Your Now! Jesus made me Kosher T-Shirt - Get Yours Now!

CLICK HERE to order your T-Shirt now! - and maybe even for your entire family! - and then GO and share the Gospel!!

Israel Media Ministries - Reaching Religious Jews Together - Ze'ev Nevo

    Ze'ev Nevo, Founder

Reaching Religious Jews Together

Shalom! Did you know that there are religious Jews that believe in Jesus? Yes there are! We can find them in Israel, the US and around the world - and with God's grace and your prayers and support, many more are coming!

Now that all the presents have been opened, the tree is back in storage and Santa Claus has left the building, it's time to refocus on the great commission that God gave us all - to reach the lost with the greatest gift of all - the message of salvation through Jesus!

I am excited to tell you that 2014 will be a great year for the Gospel. A few months ago Israel Media Ministries has begun working on a new big outreach to the religious Jews. This will be the most comprehensive evangelistic outreach that we did so far. I am so blessed and humbled to work on this project with Dr. Michael Brown, who is widely considered the world's foremost Messianic Jewish apologist.

Dr. Michael Brown

Dr. Brown, who is also graciously serving on our Board of Directors, had a tremendous contribution to the fact that my own father, Joseph, came to faith in Jesus, when he was over 80 years old.

That priceless moment happened just about 18 months before my dad passed and went to be with the Lord. There is no doubt in my mind that my dad's salvation was also instrumental to the salvation of my mom, Ruth, a few years later in 2012. I say all this for you to get a sense of how much I appreciate the apologetic work of Dr. Michael Brown and how it is being used by God for reaching the Jewish people for Jesus - even the most Orthodox Jews you can imagine.

My dad was raised as an Orthodox Jew. After losing his entire family in the Holocaust, he kind of lost faith in God and became secular. It was late in his seventies when I, his only son, came to faith in Jesus.

My dad had many objections to my new faith, many Jewish Objections. You can envision how thrilled I was when I found about a man named Dr. Brown, a Jewish follower of Jesus himself, who wrote a series of books called "Answering Jewish Objections to Jesus." To me, it was like I found a treasure! Finally - answers to every possible Jewish objection to Jesus. What depth! What knowledge of the scriptures and the Jewish belief system! How courageous!!

First I presented to my dad just one of the books (there are 5 total.) Even though it was in English and not in Hebrew, my dad read it from front to back. He simply couldn't put the book down. When my dad turned 80 I knew exactly what gift I should give him... and when I handed him the other 4 books in the series, my dad looked at me and said: "You couldn't have given me a better gift!" I am sure you can imagine how encouraging it was for me to hear that!!

My dad continued to read Dr. Brown's books; very diligently, very consistently, contemplating on one Jewish objection after the other. At the same time someone came up to me with a great idea - "maybe you can reach Dr. Brown and ask him if he will be willing to speak on the phone with your dad?" I was able to contact Dr. Brown through another evangelist that I was serving with.

When Dr. Brown heard that there is an 80 years old Jewish Holocaust survivor in Israel who is reading his books with great appreciation while fighting cancer - he obviously agreed wholeheartedly. A date and a time were set for Dr. Brown to call from the US to Israel and speak with my dad. It was during that telephone conversation when my father said for the first time "I am convinced that Yeshua is the Messiah!"

A few years later, I met Dr. Brown personally for the first time when he visited Israel. God's timing in arranging this meeting was absolutely amazing. It was shortly after my family and I moved to the US to start Israel Media Ministries. I was still in the process of obtaining a US permanent residency. For that I had to go back to Israel for an interview with the US counselor in Jerusalem.

There was no telling when this interview will be, so we already moved to the US, waiting for an official letter from the counselor's office. Obviously, I had zero control on the date this meeting in Israel will take place - but God sure did!

When the letter arrived, I jumped on a plane back to Israel. The first thing I did when I arrived to Israel was to call a couple of friends of mine who pastor a congregation in Jerusalem. "This is interesting timing," they said, "Do you know who is in Israel now? Dr. Brown. He is teaching our group in just a few days. Why don't you join us?"

And so I did. It was only then when I met Dr. Brown that I realized that his ministry center is in the Charlotte area... just about 30 minutes' drive from where we moved to ourselves!!

The following day I was invited to a dinner in the Jerusalem area to which Dr. Brown was invited too. As all of us held hands and prayed before the meal, I knew without a shadow of a doubt that I received a word from the Lord. When I overcame my shyness (being the youngest) I shared it with all that were there. Dr. Brown asked me more specifically what I meant and had a witness that it is indeed from the Lord.

That was the day that the vision for this evangelistic project was conceived. It was just over three years ago. That's quite a long "pregnancy" but it will be well worth the wait. As I am writing these lines to you this vision is becoming reality - and in a few months it will be born! I trust that many Jews, including many Orthodox Jews, will come to faith in Messiah Yeshua (Jesus) and be born again into the Kingdom of God. God's Word never returns void!! (Isaiah 55.11)

There is still a lot of work to be done for this big project to be completed, as the plan is to have it in multiple languages to enable us to reach Jewish people in their own heart language, whatever their background is and whenever they are on the globe.

There is also a lot of work to be done in general terms when it comes to Jewish evangelism, as only a very small percentage of the Jewish people believe in Jesus. Well over 99% of us Jews are still waiting for someone to come and share the Gospel with us.

"...my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal in not based on knowledge... How will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in Him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?" (Romans 10:1-2, 14)

The Shocking New Israeli Trend

The Shocking New Israeli Trend

Shalom! As an Israeli Jew and a son of a Holocaust survivor, I was more than surprised when I realized what the latest trend is in the Israeli society. Believe it or not, many Israelis are choosing to leave Israel and go live in no other than... Berlin, Germany.

It was 2003. Here we are in Berlin: My dad, my mom, my wife, my sister and her husband and two other family relatives. It felt so strange for me to be in this city, the city where both of my parents were born, the city from which an entire side of my family were taken to the gas chambers in Auschwitz. Sixty four years prior to our visit in Germany, my dad - Joseph - fled from Berlin at the age of 12 on his journey to the coasts of the Promised Land, the land of Israel.

We didn't come to Berlin just for a family vacation. Since my dad was a Holocaust survivor, we were invited by the German government to witness how the city has changed; to see in our own eyes that this new generation in Germany is nothing like the one that lived there 60-70 years ago. And indeed, the city was pretty nice actually, a beautiful fusion of old and new. I remember that during our visit I heard that some predict Berlin to be "the future capital of Europe."

But my memories from that visit are not just architectural. The days we spent in Berlin were probably among the most emotional of my life. I will never forget how my dad took us to the apartment building where he and his family used to live. Once we got there and looked at the building from the outside, my sister suggested that we go into the building and knock on the door to my dad's childhood home. And so we did. The lady that opened the door was a bit cold at first, seeing a bunch of strangers like us. It took a couple of minutes of conversing in German, which I didn't understand at all, before the lady warmed up and allowed us in.

And here I am. Standing with my dad in this tiny condo where he spent his childhood, until it was stolen from him forever. When this surreal peek into my family's history was over, we stood again on the street and looked at the old building from the outside. Unexpectedly, the grandchild of the lady that let us in was looking at us from the window. I couldn't escape the thought that this little child is almost a visual duplication of my own dad looking out of this window so many years before. The scar of this image will remain in my memory as long as I live.

Next, we headed to what would become the emotional peak of our time in Berlin. It took us about 10 minutes' walk to get there - to the synagogue - the place where my grandparents worshiped and prayed to the God of Israel, along with my dad, his younger brother and his two sisters. The synagogue was locked and in bad condition. It was obvious that it had been in that state for many years. Actually, the synagogue was inactive since the "Kristallnacht", the night of the broken glasses, when over 1,000 synagogues were burned, over 7,000 Jewish businesses were demolished and many Jewish cemeteries were desecrated. This horrific Anti-Semitic act happened in November 9-10, 1938. Yes, in just a few days it will be exactly 65 years ago. Below is a picture of one of the synagogues that were burned down on that dark night.

I will not share many details about our experience there other than saying that it was and forever will be one of the major events of my life. It was the first time that I could begin to comprehend the depths of the struggles that my dad had in believing in God and even more so - in accepting the fact that his only son (me!) had come to believe in Jesus as the promised Messiah of Israel. Indeed, when my dad came to saving faith in Jesus about 5 years later, it was truly a miracle of God.

Maybe now you can better understand why I am so shocked that Berlin became the new "IN" place for Israelis. You see, many of them probably have a German citizenship through their grandparents (like I have) which makes it possible for them to live in Germany. But why there of all places?! Germany is in the European Union, which means that one that has a German citizenship can live anywhere in Europe. What's wrong with London? Or Amsterdam?

Nevertheless, this is a fact. Israelis are immigrating to Berlin in unprecedented numbers. Why? There are several reasons for this phenomenon. The main cause is without a doubt financial. The economic situation in Israel is extremely difficult, especially for the younger generation. It is practically impossible for them to buy a decent condo in a location that is even remotely near areas of employment, unless you have very rich parents. Even the rent prices are unbelievably high. Not to mention the cost of living that is almost unbearable for most Israelis. On the other hand, while London is very expensive too, Berlin offers a much more comfortable financial environment. For Israelis, it is like a breathe of fresh air.

Others share that what attracts them to Berlin is the sense of space that they feel. In Israel everyone is in everybody's business. In Berlin, Israelis have the freedom to live in a way that they would not dare to live in Israel, away from the intense social pressure of family, friends and the Israeli society in general.

One other big attraction to Israelis is the jazz music scene in Berlin. Israeli musicians are gaining tremendous appreciation in Berlin which makes them feel right at home. In addition, there are also emotional reasons for Israelis to live in Berlin. As one Israeli woman said: "Every time I take out the garbage I say to myself 'we won.' I live here as if it is my own city."

You may be wondering how I know all that. Did I go to Berlin and interview Israelis on the street? No, there is no need to do that. Naturally, the Israelis in Berlin, just like 99% of all Israelis in that age group, are VERY active on the internet. They have their own internet websites (in Hebrew of course), Facebook groups and on-line blogs. This is where I got to know Israelis like Micha, Abraham, Michael, Liat and Tal. Yes, all of them, and thousands more, are just one click away!

What an opportunity!! Now, with a click of a button, we can share the Gospel with Israelis who are brave enough to go against the stream, who are open minded enough to go and live in the city that once was the center of unfathomable atrocities against their own families, flesh and blood. Today, many Israelis are willing to leave the past behind and search for the meaning of their lives, wherever it may be. Oh, how my heart cries out for my Jewish people in Israel and around the world! "Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved." (Rom. 10:1)

As 2013 draws to an end, PLEASE join forces with our ministry with a one-time special tax deductible gift.

We are privileged to live in this internet age! God gives you and me such an incredible opportunity to share the Gospel with an immeasurable number of lost Jewish souls. Together we will reach them in Israel! But we won't stop there. Together we will reach them in the US and in every corner of the world - YES, even in Berlin.
