Will Jesus Find Faith on the Earth When He Returns? - BERT FARIAS CHARISMA NEWS

Will Jesus Find Faith on the Earth When He Returns?

The Flaming Herald, by Bert Farias
"Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?" (Luke 18:8b).
You can't have faith without the truth of God's Word holding final authority in your life. Faith is based on the truth and authority of the Scriptures. The end of your faith is when you begin doubting the Word of God, and it stops carrying authority in your life. The end of your faith is when you no longer live by the Word of God. Multitudes of professing Christians in the church system today have departed from the real faith. Many no longer even believe the Scriptures are inspired of God.
Eye-Opening Statistics
A few years ago in another national poll on Christianity in the churches of America these telling statistics were revealed.
Studies showed that even though 79 percent of those who actually attend evangelical churches find their faith "very important", only 36 percent of them actually believe that faith in Jesus Christ is the only way to eternal life. What? That one is hard to believe. The slightly larger majority believe that many religions can lead to eternal life. And these are church members.
The drop in percentages among mainline churches is even more telling. Only 14 percent believe that Jesus Christ exclusively provides the only way to eternal life, while 83 percent think many religions lead there. Only 22 percent of this group even believe that the Bible is fully inspired while another 28 percent believe that it is just a book written by men, not the word of God. Compare this to evangelical churches, where only 7 percent do not believe the Bible is a divinely inspired book.
The great tragedy and deception is that many think they can be Christians while rejecting the Word of God and every major doctrine and practice of the true Christian faith.
The most disturbing trend, however, is in America's 18-35 group. While some polls show roughly 9 in 10 Americans still maintain belief in a god or gods, the trend of religious young Americans is toward a conglomeration of varied religious beliefs, including atheism. A 2010 USA survey revealed that 72 percent of the nation's young people identify themselves as "more spiritual than religious."
Furthermore, with an increasing majority of younger Americans accepting evolution as fact, Christianity for many under 35 is becoming a watered-down hybrid version of Eastern philosophy and biblical teachings. This trend among our young people towards being "spiritual but not religious" points further to the declining belief and practice of Christian doctrine and the embracing of a broader relationship with all other religions and beliefs.
This explains most of the above statistics, doesn't it?
Falsehood is increasing at an alarming rate in our land. The true word of the Lord is becoming rare, and there is a famine of it. It is the reason God led me to write on The Real SalvationThe Real GospelThe Real Jesus and The Real Spirit of Revival. Readers think these books are radical, but they're really not. It's just that we've had the watered-down version of the gospel for so long that these books seem radical. They are normal. They are filled with truth. When falsehood slips in, the plain, unadulterated truth seems radical. The day is upon us now when truth must be trumpeted loud and clear.
The prophet Isaiah lamented a defiled nation submerged in injustice, oppression, sin, and falsehood.
"Justice is turned backward, and righteousness stands far off; for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter. Truth is lacking, and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey" (Is. 59:14-15).
Without truth, there is no justice, righteousness or equity. He who stands for truth in this evil day will be the object of abuse, criticism, or ridicule. They will be as prey that are hunted and killed.
Doubt: Satan's Greatest Weapon
Satan's greatest weapon is disseminating doubtful reasonings into humanity as he did at the beginning, which led to man's fall.
Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, "Has God said, 'You shall not eat of any tree of the garden'?" And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat of the fruit from the trees of the garden; but from the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, 'You will not eat of it, nor will you touch it, or else you will die.' " Then the serpent said to the woman, "You surely will not die! For God knows that on the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil" (Gen. 3:1-5).
Notice how Lucifer, now Satan, deceived Eve. He made her doubt the Word of God by making these three core statements:
"Has God said, 'You shall not eat of any tree of the garden'?"
"You surely will not die!"
"You will be like God."
Jesus said that Satan is a liar and the father of lies. "He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies" (John 8:44).
Notice the progression of Satan's fatal suggestions:
First, he injected doubt into Eve's mind through deception concerning what God had said.
Secondly, he then outright denied to Eve's face what God said.
Thirdly, he deified man and told her that she would be as God.
Therein those three statements lay the deification of man: the gradual dethroning of God and the exaltation of man.
First, Eve began to doubt the absolute authority of the Word of God. Unless the Bible becomes the basis and authority of our total belief system, we will give place to lies, heresies and doctrines of demons. Satan asked Eve a question that amounted to: "Did God really mean what He said?" That subtle questioning of God's Word then turned into a bold contradiction of it: "You surely will not die." And finally, it ended with a false promise: "You will be like God."
It was when Adam and Eve acted on Satan's subtle suggestion that sin was birthed. Then with sin came death, sickness, disease, poverty, hatred, strife and suffering. It all began in Lucifer's heart and was then injected into God's first creation before being passed on throughout every generation.
The fall of man started with doubt. Doubt always brings death. Faith always produces life.
"For what does the Scripture say? 'Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness'" (Rom. 4:3).
The greatest heroes of the faith have always been those who believed the Word of God (Heb. 11). Don't be a part of the apostate church and the unbelieving world. Do not be deceived by the devil's chicanery and subtle lies. Rise up, resist the devil's lies and stand strong in the truth of God's Word.
When Jesus returns, let Him find faith in you.

Could 'Steve McQueen: American Icon' Trigger an Evangelism Explosion? - DEWAYNE HAMBY CHARISMA NEWS

Could 'Steve McQueen: American Icon' Trigger an Evangelism Explosion?

DEWAYNE HAMBY  CHARISMA NEWS
Join us on the new C-Pop podcast where Taylor and Jessilyn discuss, debate and sometimes deride pop culture with a strong sense of humor and a focus on Christ. Listen at charismapodcastnetwork.com.

When Steve McQueen: American Icon opens in theaters this week, viewers will be offered a comprehensive look at the late box-office hero who starred in films such as The Great EscapeThe Towering Inferno and Bullitt. The man who was dubbed "The King of Cool" came to faith in Jesus Christ shortly before his untimely death, a fact not widely reported but now the focal point of the new film.
Evangelist Greg Laurie, a McQueen enthusiast, discovered the story of McQueen's conversion and explored it in the recent book Steve McQueen: The Salvation of an American Icon. In the new documentary, Laurie steers the conversation, which also includes commentary by Mel Gibson, McQueen's widow Barbara and other notable confidants. Gary Sinise (Forrest Gump, CSI: NY) narrates the film.
In a recent interview, Jon Erwin (October Baby, Woodlawn), who directed along with Ben Smallbone, explained how the documentary came to production and the strategy behind the stories he champions.
Some documentaries just have talking heads but this one has action—cars racing around and biplanes flying as well as movie clips. Why did you direct the film in such a way?
We do a very old thing in a new way. We tell stories for a living. God willing, those stories will impact people's lives. We are storytellers serving the greatest storyteller of all time. It begins and ends with us with a passion for story.
I grew up watching McQueen films with my mom and dad. The Great Escape we probably watched over and over again. But just had no idea that Steve McQueen became a believer. And that this was a very meaningful part of his story and come to find out it was the only time, the only place that he truly found peace and happiness. There were even audio recordings. He did an interview shortly before his death where he said the cure to my life was finding the Lord. He wanted to tell people and never had a chance. Those tapes had never been heard. For 35 years, they've been buried. It blew me away.
Greg Laurie came to me. I was working with the Hacksaw Ridge marketing campaign a bit and Mel Gibson had come down to his Southern California crusade and I sat with Mel. Greg shared the story from the stage and Mel was thoroughly intrigued and wanted to finish. The day after the crusade, Greg said, "We have to make a documentary film about this." I just caught his vision and got really excited. We were right in the middle of I Can Only Imagine and prepping that movie, getting ready to go. I thought it was a fantastic idea and couldn't stop thinking about it. The more I studied it, I just wondered, "Did this really happen?" The more we dug into it, the bigger the story got. It was like a journalist breaking a story. This thing had never been unearthed before. I really don't know why that is. I'm glad to tell it.
Our vision is to reach for quality and try to make these films better and better and better. Excellence is an aspiration. It's never an accomplishment for us. We should always be trying a little harder and do a little more. Also, I go to the movies to be entertained and to feel things, to get wrapped up in a story. We made it much bigger than a documentary would be. It's much more immersive. We took this biplane up in the sky. Mel Gibson does an incredible commentary on the film. Gary Sinise is cutting the narration for it. We're trying to put the gospel on as big a stage as we can.
Woodlawn, the first true story we did, we've seen over 25,000 people come to Christ, mostly high school kids, from that. I think we just saw the power of the true story. It's not just films, it's for us all as Christians. We forget that the biggest weapon in our arsenal is just our story, what God has done in our life and how it's changed our life. The gospel is good news, and it can change your life. There are so many stories of that happening. We've fallen in love with so many stories of that happening but also real stories that are accessible, that are really emotionally relatable no matter what you believe.
We had come from documentary films before we did features, so to go back was very gratifying. I had a blast on the film. We assembled a great team, including Ben Smallbone, who's also in Nashville, came and co-directed it with me. And we had some ferocious cameramen and great editors, producers. You feel this youthful energy, because it was a lot of up and coming talent in our ranks. I feel that it's very entertaining and it far exceeded my hopes and expectations for what we set out to do. His widow did an incredible interview and those closest to him. It was an authentic, direct look at the spiritual quest of an American icon. And it asks the questions we all ask. I think we all think, "If I just accomplish this, I'd be happy." McQueen was one of those guys who checked all those boxes of accomplishments and found that he still wasn't happy.
There's enough story in there just about the actor that would draw in somebody who's just fascinated with McQueen.
It is kind of a covert strategy. One of the things I've noticed and I've fallen in love with Harvest Ministries and their crusades and everything they stand for. An interesting thing I've heard is that they've had 500,000 decisions for Christ and 5 million people attend the crusades. About 85 percent of the decisions are when Christians bring their friends. That really is how it's supposed to work.
We're beginning to build our films where, if you look under the hood of our movies, we're trying to make them more and more accessible to people that don't believe while maintaining the power of the message, not watering it down at all, but making it more accessible, translating it better. Sometimes there are phrases we use as Christians that non-Christians don't understand. It's also kind of a slow burn in essence. We start the film in a very relatable way, and the true message we're trying to convey to people creeps up on you, and it only creeps up on you after you're engaged in the film. That's the goal anyway. McQueen is that way. I Can Only Imagineis that way. The films get to this powerful place where you say, "I need this in my life." But you don't realize it. We don't come out of the gate swinging. It's a more covert strategy. These films are engineered for you to bring your friends.
Story is the language of our hearts, and entertainment is the language of our time. The movie theater is kind of where those two meet. Other Christian filmmakers, the movies are designed to encourage Christians and the body and you need to be a Christian to watch them. But we're focusing more on the power of the life-changing gospel. Who knew that one of those was the biggest movie star of all time?
This is the first complete documentary of Steve McQueen, mainly because this part of his life doesn't match the "King of Cool" rebel brand. No one has shared his entire story so we just set out to make an authentic, honest, relatable movie that just shared the entire life of Steve McQueen from cradle to grave. It's a very powerful, multi-layered, up-from-nothing story. What I found fascinating is this movie star that had so much going for him. When he was young, it was completely opposite, he was deprived of everything, had a horrible childhood. Yet when he got the chance to remedy that and didn't deprive himself of anything, wealth and fame, everything that society says would make you happy. Yet he still had this gaping hole in his heart and life. In an airstrip in Santa Pala, in a beautiful biplane, he accepts Christ because his pilot instructors. He found a father figure. That's just a powerful story, so much to glean from it. I think a great film is a complete look at a question. The question of this film is—what really makes you happy in life? Most of us think if we just had one thing, I'd be happy. We don't realize it because we don't get it. But here's a guy who had it all. I work in this business and I work with a lot of very famous miserable people. The top of the cultural ladder is not a very happy place.
You are part of an exciting, emerging movement in Christian entertainment. How does that feel?
There's no us versus them. It's us versus us. It's trying to improve every day and get better at what we do ... and mentoring talent. There's not a lot of talent, young, emerging talent in film and television for Christians. We're trying to remedy that and incubate and empower some of these incredibly skilled younger people. I think if we can do that, we're the first generation that could look at the Great Commission as possible in our time. There are more cell phones than people on the earth, and entertainment is America's second greatest export. This is a way to get the gospel out to people in the world and get them to pay for it. They want the product, so what we have to do is dream bigger and make the films better and do that again and again and again over time. I think we'll blink our eyes and realize we've far exceeded where we are right now as far as faith-based entertainment. It's a slow and steady progress.

The God of Israel Rules - Charles Gardner ISRAEL TODAY

The God of Israel Rules

Friday, September 15, 2017 |  Charles Gardner  ISRAEL TODAY
The threats of the North Korean dictator are frightening indeed, and could well ignite a nuclear war, but they are part of a bigger picture of worldwide rebellion against the God of creation. On a more specific front, they’re a smokescreen for a potential Armageddon in the Middle East as Russian-backed Iran and its allies move dangerously close to Israel’s borders.
Only last week (September 7) Israel carried out a daring air strike against an Iranian-run weapons factory in the heart of Syria, severely damaging (if not destroying) the facility where chemical and biological munitions as well as medium-range missiles are being developed. Syria has in turn warned about “dangerous repercussions”.
The strike took place exactly ten years after Israel – the only country in recent years that has stood up to North Korea until now – destroyed a Syrian nuclear reactor being built with the help of the rogue regime.
British politicians, while appalled by the antics of Kim Jong-un, are nevertheless shaking their fists at God in their own way as, with their atheist agenda, they question the existence of a divine order. Like the serpent in the Garden of Eden, they pose the subtle question: “Did God really create man and woman to procreate?” (See Genesis 3.1)
At the centre of the earth today stands a small Jewish state. And what the world interprets as an ideological battle over a piece of land the size of Wales is in effect an Arab-Muslim challenge to the God of Israel, revealed to us through his Son Jesus Christ.
Their claim that the land does not belong to the Jews despite thousands of years of historical, archeological and biblical evidence was decisively countered by the 1947 discovery on the shores of the Dead Sea of ancient scrolls proving Jewish connection to the territory well before the emergence of Islam – and recognised as such by the United Nations that same year.
The findings in caves at Qumran included the entire original text of the Book of Isaiah, over 2,500 years old. This was found intact among hundreds of parchment scrolls hidden in the desert cliffs exactly as it is recorded in modern times – no Chinese whispers here, but God’s authentic hand.
There is no doubt that the unearthing of these scrolls – along with much more archeological evidence – fully vindicated Israel’s claim to the land, quite apart from other political and biblical factors.
At the heart of all the sabre-rattling going on now is a battle – not really over whether there is a God, but over who he is. And the Judeo-Christian position that formed the basis of Western civilization is that He is the God of Israel. When Sennacherib, the Assyrian king, threatened Jerusalem with destruction in ancient times (2 Kings 18 & 19), Judah’s King Hezekiah prayed to the ‘God of Israel’ and the result was a resounding defeat for their enemies. The emphasis of his prayer was that his Lord would demonstrate that he alone was God. (2 Kings 19.14-19)
Similar threats are heard today from those opposed to Israel. The former Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Sheikh Ekrima Sabri, has been denied the chance “to promote dialogue and a better understanding of the Palestinian narrative” in the UK Parliament thanks, it seems, to an 18,000-strong petition. But the barefaced nerve of a man who has called for the destruction of Britain to attempt to infiltrate its parliament with his poisonous lies takes some beating.
This man represents the same ideological ethos as Islamic State. We are investing so much in the prevention of terror, yet are pathetically slow to recognise such threats to our democracy. ‘We all worship the same God,’ I hear so many naïve people say – even in church pews. But Sheikh Sabri says that when he enters the Al-Aqsa Mosque (on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount) he is “filled with rage toward the Jews”.
Contrast this with Jesus’ command to love our enemies and pray for our persecutors. (Matthew 5.44) As the Sheikh makes clear, Islam is a death cult committed to the destruction of ‘infidels’. “The Muslim loves death and martyrdom,” he says.
Part of the ‘Palestinian narrative’ is that Israel is guilty of human rights violations and of being an apartheid state. But the absurdity of these accusations is underlined by the emergence of a transgender Arab Christian from Nazareth as a new secret weapon against BDS, the boycott Israel campaign. Talleen Abu Hana, winner of the first Miss Trans Israel pageant, was guest of honour at the Israeli Embassy in Washington during LGBT Pride month.
Abu declared: “I’m happy to be Israeli because being Israeli means being truly free.” And when an American journalist questioned Israel’s record on human rights, she replied: “Are you crazy? In what other country in the Middle East can I live my life openly.”
Most Christians, including myself, do not agree with her lifestyle choice, but far more distasteful is the rank hypocrisy behind much liberal thought which sets politically correct agendas that are inevitably contradictory.
In any case, Israel’s restoration – according to biblical prophecy – is not yet complete. A restoration to the land (i.e. a political rebirth) is what we are witnessing today; this will be followed by a restoration to their Lord and Messiah, which is in the process of happening but still in the early stages.
One line of theological thought sees the ‘fig tree’ (Matthew 24.32) as a symbol of political Israel while the olive tree is seen as representing a return to its original purpose as a nation under God.
The fig tree is certainly blossoming as Israel becomes a powerful nation once more, but many of its inhabitants are still in rebellion against the Almighty.
Christians are privileged to have been grafted onto the natural olive tree of Israel (Romans 11.11-24). But the day is coming when all Israel will finally turn to their Messiah (Romans 11.26).
All the hordes of hell are trying to stop that happening – hence the current battle – because it will usher in the Lord of glory who will crush the enemies of Israel and rule over the earth from Jerusalem for a thousand years of peace.

Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church: This Is Going to Devastate Us for Years to Come

JESSILYN JUSTICE  CHARISMA NEWS
Join us on our podcast each weekday for an interesting story, well told, from Charisma News. Listen at charismapodcastnetwork.com.

"If you don't laugh, you'll cry," Lakewood Church's Senior Communications Director Don Iloff tells Charisma News while standing outside in the pouring rain in Houston.
Though the megachurch has received some flak for not opening its doors as an emergency shelter, there's virtually no access to Joel Osteen's campus, which is considered one of the largest in the country. Instead, staff and volunteers are meeting through conference calls to coordinate efforts. The church, located in Houston's inner loop, is just a few miles away from the city's largest shelter, the George R. Brown Convention Center.
Although Harvey's damage was initially labeled as a once-in-500 years flood, Iloff says it's now closer to 1-in-800.
"We are this city," he says. "When you talk about 75,000-80,000 members of the church with 45,000-50,000 showing up on any given weekend, not to mention visitors, when you talk about Lakewood, you're talking about city. It's blacks, whites, Hispanics, rich and poor, everything. It's been interesting the last several days. We've had members and staff who have been rescuers, and members and staff who have been rescued. Nothing like this has ever occurred."
More than 3,000 National Guard troops have been deployed to the state, and ministries from around the country have loaded trucks with supplies to serve the refugees.
Iloff says Lakewood's efforts will be more focused on the aftermath.
"Right now, it's hard to know how devastating it's going to be. Even FEMA doesn't know the scope until the waters recede," Iloff says. "That's really where we're going to end up make the biggest impact, and we're going to make efforts for years to come. Lakewood is currently involved in our community, and we have lot of efforts happening in an ongoing basis, like in the 5th Ward, around the city, and we're working with everyone we can imagine. Our membership is so diverse, and we work with homeless, with unwed mothers. ... We truly believe that because this is such a big deal, that this storm is a such devastating thing, our efforts are dealing with this storm in almost everything we do from this point forward at least a year, years to come."
It's the diversity that hits home for Iloff.
Leading up to the hurricane-turned-tropical storm, Iloff says the media focused on division. Stories dove into the racism in Charlottesville and the aftermath as the country considered how to handle statues commemorating the Civil War Confederacy. Headlines read of free speech—or lack thereof—of intense protests over the president's actions. But in Houston, diversity breeds heroics.
In flood pictures, black men carry small white children, white women help elderly Hispanic people, Hispanic people hand out water to whoever is in need—regardless of skin color or religion.
"Maybe it's because I go to Lakewood, which is very diverse, and we love each other and focus on the greater good, which is Jesus Christ," Iloff says. "We all focus on something greater than ourselves. They don't pay attention to the differences between us because commonality is so important. Our race doesn't matter. I'm a believer, you're a believer.
"I don't know that mainstream media is missing it, and right now, I hope they focus on the heroic love and sacrifice that people are making for one another regardless of any kind of difference they may have with that other person. I hope they continue to cover this, not necessarily dividing us up. At least it's good for us, and it's really bringing about making us aware of how much more alike we are than different. You can drown no matter what your religion, your ethnicity. Water can kill us all. We all need to be saved. We are all one, and it takes these things to make people realize that. That is something good to come from this."
For those who want to pray for Houston, Iloff has two requests that boil down to one word: Strength.
"Strength is the single most important thing, the ability to endure through this and after. I think, in the aftermath, that people strengthen their faith. A lot of faith is tested right now, because the single greatest question that comes to us is, 'How did God let this happen?'" We also hear, 'Why did this happen?' 'Why do bad things happen to good people?' and other big faith questions. ... During this storm, pray for endurance, and in the aftermath, pray that our faith is strengthened, because it's up to Christians to answer these hard questions."

Indian Christians Experience Record-Breaking Persecution in 2017 - CBN News

Indian Christians Experience Record-Breaking Persecution in 2017

CBN News 08-24-2017
Indian Christians experienced almost as many attacks in the first half of the 2017 as they did in the entire year of 2016.
That's according to a new report from the persecution watchdog organization Open Doors. According to the report, there were 410 reported incidents targeting Indian Christians in the first six months of this year. Last year, there were 441 reported incidents total.
Eighty-four of those incidents were violent assaults. Of those 84 violent attacks, 32 would have been deadly if timely medical-aid had not been provided.
One partner told Open Doors the Indian government fails to punish attackers, which emboldens them to target Christians even more.
"When Christians are beaten up by extremists, they are injured mostly on their heads or vital body parts. There was one incident earlier this year when the victim was attacked by a sword to his head. He was bleeding profusely and was critically injured… Attackers do not care if the person dies. They know they will not be punished because the Government (and hence the judiciary) will take their side. In most cases attackers go unpunished," the partner said.
While some Christians may not be physically attacked, they pay a heavy societal toll for following Christ.
According to the report, many Christians become social outcasts or are forced to leave their homes for fear of their safety.
The biggest perpetrators of this persecution are Hindu extremists.
While the Indian government speaks of religious freedom and secularism, the government is run by a Hindu nationalist party called RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh).
Leaders are embracing Hinduism more and becoming less tolerant of other religions, especially Christians.
One Christian leader said he was once a Hindu nationalist and persecuted Christians before he made the decision to follow Christ.
"Before I converted to Christianity, I used to be a staunch Hindu. I also joined RSS at that time and started working with them. The party upholds Hindutva ideology and believes that if Christians in India aren't controlled, they would convert all the Hindus in the country and Hindutva would lose its identity," he told Oepn Doors. "Hence RSS wants to do their best to stop Christians from preaching about their faith. They would go to any extremes for that. I myself persecuted many Christians until I came to the Christian faith and realized what I had been doing."
India's Christians are fighting back by lobbying their government officials.
The National Council of Churches in India (NCCI), which represents 14 million Protestant and Orthodox Christians, recently wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in hopes he would condemn the persecution.
No such actions have been taken by the Indian government since that letter was written.
