Growing Speculation Awaits President Trump's Embassy Decision
12-04-2017
CBN News Chris Mitchell,
JERUSALEM, Israel – Both Washington and Jerusalem are anticipating one of President Trump's most important foreign policy decisions this week: whether to move the embassy of the United States from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
At this year's Saban Forum, Trump's personal envoy to the Middle East peace process, Jared Kushner, told participants the president is still undecided.
"The president is going to make his decision and …"  Haim Saban, the sponsor of the Forum interrupted Kushner and asked, "He hasn't made his decision?"  Kushner replied, "He's still looking at a lot of different facts and he'll be the one who will want to tell you not me, so he'll make sure he does that at the right time."
It's expected that President Trump will make an announcement about the issue on Wednesday. He could decide to move U.S. embassy to Jerusalem or even declare Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
Whatever the president's decision, the move has generated a great deal of speculation.
At the same forum, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu explained why he keeps warning the world about Iran.
"I speak so often about Iran because I read history," Netanyahu said. "When tyrants call for the destruction of my people, I believe them. I don't have the luxury of discounting their genocidal threats, so let me reiterate Israel's policy…"We will not allow a regime hell bent on the annihilation of the Jewish state to acquire nuclear weapons. We will not allow that regime to entrench itself militarily in Syria as it seeks to do for the express purpose of eradicating our state."
Recently Netanyahu said Israel will not tolerate an Iranian military presence inside Syria within 40 kilometers (about 25 miles) from Israel's northern border on the Golan Heights.
But what seemed to resonate with much of the media was his quote of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
"Recently, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia referred to Iran's supreme leader as the new Hitler of the Middle East. Obviously there are some important differences between Nazi Germany and the Islamic Republic of Iran, but both regimes do have two important things in common: one, a ruthless commitment to impose tyranny and terror, and second, a ruthless commitment to murder Jews," Netanyahu told the audience by videoconferencing.
He ended on an optimistic note.
"My friends, one day the Iranian regime will fall. Iranian mothers and fathers will rejoice in the street. Israel will be first in line to restore relations and rebuild our great partnership. That's just one reason why I'm so hopeful about our future. Today Israel is more welcome by the nations of the world than ever before. Our economy is booming. Our foreign relations are flourishing. Our army is more powerful than ever. Our unique, our indispensable alliance with America is growing from strength to strength," he said.

Joel C. Rosenberg's Blog: Israelis mark the 70th anniversary of the historic U.N. “Partition Plan” vote to reestablish the Jewish State.

UN-PartitionPlan-Nov1947

New post on Joel C. Rosenberg's Blog

Israelis mark the 70th anniversary of the historic U.N. “Partition Plan” vote to reestablish the Jewish State. Sadly, the conflict is not over. We must still pray for & seek peace, especially as followers of Jesus.

by joelcrosenberg
Seventy years ago -- on November 29th, 1947 -- history was made.
The United Nations General Assembly voted in favor of Resolution 181 (aka, the "Partition Plan") to divide the land of British Mandated Palestine to create a sovereign Israeli Jewish state and a sovereign Palestinian Arab state.
The plan was controversial. It was by no means clear the resolution would pass. Jews and Christians around the world listened by radio to the vote anxiously, prayerfully. And to their astonishment, in the end the resolution passed.
  • Thirty-three states voted in favor, including the United States.
  • Thirteen states voted against.
  • Ten states abstained.
True, Jewish leaders living in Palestine at the time wanted much more land than the U.N. plan offered. But in the end they accepted the plan. After two thousand years in exile from the Biblical land of Israel, the world was finally give Jews legal permission to re-gather and rebuild the ancient ruins.
Six months later -- on May 14th, 1948 -- David Ben Gurion formally declared Israel's independence. Tragically, five Arab states immediately launched a war to destroy the reborn State of Israel.
Seventy years later, the conflict still is not resolved. Millions of Palestinians live in poverty and discouragement. Their leaders have been offered peace treaties multiple times by multiple Israeli leaders, but thus far have not agree.
That said, there has been progress in the region.
  • In November 1977, Egyptian President Anwar el-Sadat stunned Israel and the world by making a historic and completely unexpected visit to Jerusalem to address the Knesset.
  • In September 1978, President Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Began spent thirteen days at Camp David with President Jimmy Carter hammering out the framework of a peace treaty.
  • On March 26, 1979, Sadat and Begin met at the White House and formally signed a comprehensive peace treaty with Israel, ending that conflict and establishing full diplomatic and economic ties.
  • On October 26, 1994, Jordanian King Hussein and Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin signed a comprehensive peace treaty between the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the State of Israel.
  • In recent years, a growing number of Sunni Arab nations -- including Saudi Arabia -- are quietly building diplomatic, intelligence and security relationships with Israel.
In Psalm 34:14, believers are commanded to "seek peace and pursue it." In Psalm 122:6, believers are commanded to "pray for the peace of Jerusalem." The Lord Jesus told His disciples, "Blessed are the peacemakers." (Matthew 5:9)
As a Jewish person, a dual U.S.-Israeli citizen, and a follower of Jesus, I am grateful for this anniversary, as I believe it marks in no insignificant way evidence of God keeping His Abrahamic Covenant with the Jewish people. Despite our sin and rebellion, the God of Israel continues to be gracious and merciful to His people. He promised to bring us back to the land, and He is keeping His promise. He giving us a land we don't deserve as He calls us back to Himself and His Word.
At the same time, as I love Israel and want her to be safe and free and prosperous and to know and faithful to the Lord God Almighty, I pray for peace. I seek to be a peacemaker. I seek to love and bless my Palestinian neighbors. How I want to see them flourish, to have safety and freedom and prosperity and to know and be faithful to the Lord God Almighty, as well.
Ultimately, I believe only the Messiah can heal these wounds and bring true and lasting peace and justice in the Middle East. Until then, I pray and work for the Church to be kind, wise and gracious Ambassadors of Christ, loving both sides, praying for both sides, and seeking peace and pursuing it. Amen.

Israeli Hit by Syrian Gunfire; IDF Prepares to Enter Bloody Civil War - Israel Today

Israeli Hit by Syrian Gunfire; IDF Prepares to Enter Bloody Civil War

Friday, November 03, 2017 |  Israel Today Staff
Israel has in recent years carried out numerous targeted strikes against Hezbollah targets in the context of Syria's ongoing civil war.
But the Jewish state has been careful to avoid actually being pulled into the conflagration.
Until now.
Israeli military leaders on Friday vowed to intervene in defense of the Syrian Druze village of Hader, which lies a short distance over the border in the Golan Heights.
Hader has been aligned with the regime of Syrian dictator Bashar Assad (the Druze are typically loyal to whichever party is in power), making it a target for all of the various rebel and Islamist groups participating in Syria's civil war.
Earlier in the day, Hader was attacked by a suicide bomber from the jihadist group Al Nusra. Nine people were killed and another 23 injured.
IDF Brigadier General Ronen Manelis announced that the Israeli army was prepared to "prevent Hader from being harmed or occupied as part of our commitment to the Druze population."
Such a commitment could very quickly bring Israeli forces into direct conflict with Al Nusra and other rebel groups.
The decision came just hours after a Druze resident of northern Israel was hit by stray gunfire from Syria. The victim is in stable condition.
The Druze residents of Israel consider themselves blood-brothers of the Jewish majority.
