The Holy Spirit: A Person, Not an 'It'

Think of the Holy Spirit as a person, not an "it." (Lightstock )

One evening when our oldest daughter Anna was in college, I, Mahesh, was suddenly overcome by a strong urge to pray. I did not know why, but I knew the Holy Spirit was alerting me and giving me this sense of urgency.

I began to pray in the Spirit, and continued to pray for nearly three hours until I felt the inner prompting leave. It was late in the evening when I left my study, and I saw Anna's light was still on where she was preparing for her final exams. I stuck my head in the door to say good-night and heard myself saying, "Please drive your mother's Jeep instead of my car in the morning."

She ordinarily drove my car to school every day. I had no particular reason to make the request, but when she nodded without looking up, I told her a second time just to make sure she had heard me. Then I went to bed.

The next morning, our phone rang just before eight o'clock. It was the police department. Our daughter Anna had just been involved in a terrible car crash.

When we arrived at the scene, the EMS and fire department were fervently working to extricate our daughter from the destroyed Jeep. She had hit a slick spot in the road and lost control of the vehicle. It was wrapped around a tree in a shallow ravine. Everyone involved was certain that our daughter was either dead or dying.

Bonnie rushed to the car as they finally got Anna out. The patrolman on the scene said, "It's a miracle your daughter is alive." He had never seen an accident like that where the driver had not been instantly killed. "Those airbags are what saved her life."

We know that it was a lot more than airbags that protected our daughter that day. It was the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives to guide and help us in crucial times that had watched over our daughter. I realized that my urgent need to pray the night before had been for my daughter's safety. I also realized that my instruction to drive her mother's Jeep came as a result of my time in prayer.

My car was an older model and did not have airbags, but her mother's car did. I did not know any of the events that were about to happen, but my Friend the Holy Spirit did, and He was watching over my family and me.

Through experiences like that, both Bonnie and I have learned that we are utterly dependent upon the presence and guidance of the Holy Spirit. We have also learned just how much He cares for us, relates to us personally and is always there to give us the assistance we need. And He wants to relate to you, too.

About this Person

When we start thinking about the Holy Spirit, we have to realize He is a Person and not an "it." That means He has a specific personality. Let us describe Him to you.

The first thing to know about the Holy Spirit is probably this: He is happy. It is His nature to be joyful. It is also His nature to be humble, for He is very gentle. He is also powerful and strong, so when He comes alongside any one of us, He is able to fill up the places where we are empty; to heal the places where we are broken; to strengthen the places where we are weak. That is the very nature of the true God.

He has feelings and longings and desires. He is always at peace and He is everywhere.

King David wrote these words about God in one of his psalms:

"Where shall I go from Your spirit, or where shall I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning and dwell at the end of the sea, even there Your hand shall guide me, and Your right hand shall take hold of me" (Psalm 139:7–10, MEV).

Only God is omniscient (all-knowing), omnipotent (all-powerful), omnipresent (everywhere present). His Presence is His Spirit. This invisible and perceptible Presence permeates the entire universe. There is nowhere that He is not. He is present everywhere at the same time. No distance can separate you from Him; there is nowhere that you can go to be hidden from Him.

God knows everything. There is no place where things happen that He does not know about them. There is nothing you are facing—be it infirmity coming against your body or external circumstances or relational disaster or national crisis—that He has not already gained the victory over through His great power. Those who know Him have consolation in every situation because He does not change.

So much of life I have to share.

Salvation came from my Lord above,

Now known by Him - my every hair.

When but a lad of five or so,

When Jesus came into my heart;

A Catholic boy in Iowa’s glow,

He’s blessed me from the very start.

Columbus High was where I went,

An education for life to come.

My teachers gave, and then was sent

To seek the Lord, and then some.

My wife to be was but a teen,

I had to wait for her - as us.

October’s light that 8^th was seen,

No worries Mom, don’t make a fuss!

Soon came forth the quiver full,

With Josh and Ben to start.

Then Hannah, Christen – there ain’t no lull!

A family now will never part.

First Derek, then Mahesh and Bonnie served;

Then came Barry & Batya - both Jews.

My fruitful work, for Him deserved,

Eternal reward – now that’s Good News!

I bless Chelsie, Andrew, Jonathan. When?

Spouses for my kids they are;

Plus Daniel, Logan, Dylan, Jensen,

Jack, Payton and Levi - by far!

Continues on my life these days,

To know His will and walk therein.

A blessed man in all His ways,

I love my Lord. Thus all for Him.

Oh my dove, in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the cliff, let me see your face. Let me hear your voice; for your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely. Song of Solomon 2:14

I looked up through the ceiling and saw a vast angelic army. Together the angels seemed like an ocean of brilliant, radiant light. It appeared that they were pulsing and trembling, just waiting to break in. They were waiting to be released by the call of the angel who had led me into the room. He was in great anguish because he earnestly desired to give the call they were all expecting, but he only said one sentence: "It is not quite time yet."

I kept looking at the heavenly hosts. I could see ladders. I could see lamps. I could feel the anticipation and how strongly they wanted to break in. The angelic multitude was getting ready to burst in, not with a simple entrance, but with a flood of divine activity. Only this single angel held back the imminent breakthrough.

But it was not quite time for him to release them. There was something yet to be completed before the breakthrough could happen, though I was not shown what it was.

I noticed the Lord standing at the head of a man's bed. I was able to feel His gaze of tender kindness and hear His gentle whisper over this man. 

He said,"So many people said they would do it, and they never did, but you really did it. You really did it."

The Lord's affirming voice, affection, and kindness to this man were due to his faithfulness in continual night and day prayer, even in the mundane things of life. This man did not seek fame and fortune; he stayed steady, lovesick for God and unoffended day by day.

A tear came from the corner of the Lord's eye; He was deeply moved by this man's faithfulness... The Lord looked at me and said, "We have heard many pray, 'Take us up.' Instead, tell the faithful ones, 'Heaven is coming down. Heaven is breaking in.'"

Call Forth the Angels of Revival

This is part of a dream I had back in 2007. At the time of this dream, I remember the Lord being so moved by someone who did not grow weary in the place of prayer through hard times, dry times, or mundane day-to-day life.

Oh, how He loves our voice in every season. He loves our cries, our song. The God of the universe loves the sound of our little voice and prayers. And God is answering our little prayers. He is a big God that loves our little prayers. My "little" combined with God's "big" is always His big.

Isn't this amazing? He loves our sound. Our prayers matter. Revelation 5:8 tells us that the elders who are ever before the throne of God, they each hold a harp and bowl. 

The harp is a symbol of constant worship, and the golden bowl full of incense is the prayers of the saints. That is your voice. That is my voice. Our voice is ever before the throne of God.

Prayers never die, they live on and on. Our voice is mixed with all of the prayers of the ages, with all of the prayers ever prayed. This fragrance lives on; our prayers arise continually before God who reigns over the universe.

As I sit in the Healing Rooms – House of Prayer in Santa Maria, California (my new home) – I remember this dream I had years ago. I remember seeing the angelic host waiting for the time of great break-in and great breakthrough to be poured out on the earth. I know we have experienced seasons of revival and renewal. 

We have experienced periods of His presence in amazing ways with healing and salvation. But I saw a greater breaking in of Heaven to the Earth, and when I had this dream years ago, it was bigger and greater than anything I knew I had ever experienced or seen.

I have recently had another dream that I believe is a continuation of this first dream, for I was given instructions in this dream and told to cry out for help from the sanctuary. 

I was told to cry out for the "Angels of Revival." 

And so, I cry out and share this new dream with you, because God is listening.

And Then Heaven Will Come Down! What Goes Up MUST Come Down!

I had a dream. I was told to call forth the "Angels of Revival." I was told to call for them three times. So I put my hand up to my mouth and began to shout: "I call forth the Angels of Revival. I call forth the Angels of Revival. I call forth the Angels of Revival." 

Suddenly, angels began to arise out of the mountains...their bodies stood up out of the mountains. They were so huge.

Suddenly this host of heavenly beings – these Angels of Revival – all came together, and James Goll was right in the middle of them. The angels were bigger and larger than the largest and tallest human, standing head and shoulders above everyone and everything. 

James Goll was right in the middle of these heavenly beings. I looked at James, and I was thinking to myself,James, you are shining – are you in Heaven now? In the dream, James knew my thoughts and he looked at me and said in his James voice, "No, I didn't go up. Heaven has come down."

These Angels of Revival were wearing golden robes that went down to their feet, and they had a cream-colored collar around their neck. They were shining and they were singing. This beautiful choir, these beautiful harmonies...I could see the vibrations of their tones going forth and going out, striking hearts. 

They were singing of the glories of God, and this tone, these songs, these vibrations of sounds, were going out of the building where I was and drawing in multitudes. 

This sound was drawing in the lost, the broken, the sick.

Suddenly, in the dream, I looked and I saw Bonnie and Mahesh Chavda there with a friend of mine: Debbie Lamunyon. As I looked out the windows, there were multitudes of people. They were standing in lines waiting to get into the building, for Great Revival had begun. As I looked out every window, the only thing I could see were lines of people waiting to get into the building where great signs and wonders were happening.

I woke up from the dream and I emailed James Goll, asking him his thoughts. He replied back, "I say this all the time: What goes up MUST come down."

Yes, I knew this to be the law of "Spiritual Gravity": What goes up MUST come down. When we pray, our voices arise like a fragrance right before the throne of God. He hears every prayer, every cry, every song, every plea – and He answers.

This is a season to look and expect God to break in. He is sending forth His Angels of Revival. 

We see in Psalm 104:4: "He sends His angels like the winds, His servants like flames of fire."

These angels come to help us. We are approaching that which Bob Jones prophesied years ago – the greatest revival. 

The greatest harvest of the lost is approaching, and it's a season to pray and cry out for more. 

Cry out for the breaking in of the host of Heaven to go forth and strike the hearts of the lost. God is showing forth His mighty power, and we get to be a part of this great outpouring through prayer and then walking with Him in healing, signs, and wonders.

If you don't know what to pray, pray the apostolic prayers. One of my favorites is in 2 Thessalonians:

"Finally, dear brothers and sisters, we ask you to pray for us. Pray that the Lord's message will spread rapidly and be honored wherever it goes, just as when it came to you" (2 Thessalonians 3:1).

This celebration of Bob Jones life, who passed on Feb. 14, 2014 (Valentines Day) at the age of 84, was held at MorningStar Ministries Heritage International in Fort MIll, SC. Attended by several thousand, worship leaders and speakers gave tribute to Bob's life.

Bob, a Seer Prophet had an extraordinary supernatural prophetic gift, and was loved greatly. He was one of the most respected prophetic voices in recent times. Few touched the Body of Christ worldwide like Bob Jones. He was a forerunner and grandfather to the modern prophetic ministry, to leaders in almost every other field of influence for more than four decades. (You can read the full service booklet's words near the end of this blog posting.)

Rick Joyner gave the opening welcome at the 3:30 pm ceremony, which had followed the viewing from 1-3 pm.

As a personal testimony in knowing Bob, I want to share his prophetic word he gave to both Laurie and I, as written in my first book, The Promise - One Man's Journey To See God's Word Revealed. Here is an excerpt from Chapter 11, "Worship the Lord God of Israel", pages 82-85.

In the meantime, the Lord didn’t forget about those desires He had put in my heart from my early years.  From time to time, He would bring a word of encouragement, such as the following.

On the ninth day of January 1997, Mahesh and Bonnie had arranged a time for Bob Jones, who has an anointed prophetic voice, to come to the All Nations Church office.  He was to share with the staff and leaders of our young church.  I didn’t know much about Bob, only that the Lord was using him to speak things that others simply were not doing.  Some would think his prophetic gifting was strange, but I was open to hearing what the Lord would say through this vessel.  Laurie and a few other wives were able to join the staff too. 

We gathered in the ‘chapel’ room, a converted garage, where the Watch of the Lord was birthed only two years earlier.  Bonnie asked Bob if he would start with Laurie and I when he was ready to start to minister.

And so he began:

Bob:    Just move up here in front and face me.  Years ago, a bolt of lightning hit my hand.  In that, there comes a trembling or a feeling in my hand to the fingers.  When you feel that, I want you to move the fingers, and I’ll tell you what it means.  When the Lord intends to start a fire down here on the earth, He always does it with lightning.  Thunder is His voice, and lightning is His power. And several places in the United States now the earth is beginning to thunder and scientists can’t find out what it is.  I know what it is.  It’s God’s voice. ... it thundered continually out of a clear sky.  The voice of the Father went over this area in 1980.  What He spoke then is coming into being now.  So put your hands up like that, and when I begin to touch hands, some of you will turn totally purple.  The rest of you want to see, get up here behind.

Now this man’s hands are turning brown.  That is the love-slave.  You understand that?  Now, can you feel where the flow is coming through your fingers?  Now, you can’t feel it with your head.  Close those eyes, and just let faith arise and move those fingers.  Good. That’s right.  Here and here.  You feel it flowing? 

·                     So one thing the Lord is doing with you, you have got a pastoral anointing on you right here.

·                     Also evangelism, brother, and teaching.  And the revelation is coming for this. And this in here, the evangelism, the church needs the evangelistic encouraging edge. 

·                     Also this in here, and the revelation gifts in here are for counseling people and setting people free from all manner of things. 

·                     So what the Lord is bringing you into is also a deliverance ministry.  You understand that?  You can open your eyes now.  I just wanted you to see it, so if there is anything you don’t understand while I’m speaking.  What this is doing is confirming what you are.  You got it?  Do you?  What this is doing is showing people they are qualified to do these things. 

·                     So there’s beginning to come a good teaching ministry in you to prepare people for this evangelistic ministry, which is setting people free from all manner of things.  Healing the brokenhearted and setting the captive free.  This is what He is beginning to work in you.  And in that, the word in season will come out of you continually, so you already have the word in season for people. 

·                      

·                     And what the enemy has been trying to do to you is misdirect your visions and everything to where you’re not doing the proper intercession.  So he’s really trying to make you so busy that the intercession doesn’t get you to where faith arises in you.  You understand that?  So don’t let him do that.  Spend that quality time with Him, because you can get through to Him now.  So you’re going to be part of the soul winning, too.  Got that one?  And so, He’s bringing you to where that love in you comes to that point that it boils over and isn’t denied. 

·                     So He’s working the work of faith in you to do the things He’s called you to do.  And already He has qualified you to begin to do these things now.  And the evangelist ministry in you is to bring the Word of God and to free people from defeat, disappointment, disgust, disillusionment, and confusion.  You understand that one? 

·                     These are the things that have been coming at you.  And you’ve got a victory over that, and anything you’ve got victory over, you can free others from.  So He’s really putting the earring in the left ear to where when you stand up — whether you’ve got the word or not — the only way you can fail is to shut up, and that’s what the enemy has been wanting you to do.  So stand up instead of shut up.  Go forth and speak that encouraging word that sets people free from the change of the inner man to where the Spirit of God can get out of them and go forth and do things.  You got it? 

·                     Now the third, which you’ll begin to see, look how their hands begin to shine.  Oh, it’s a beautiful oil.  Also they’re beginning to turn purple, so here’s an intercessor, too.  Can you feel where the flow is coming up? 

·                     You have the teacher, counselor, deliverance ministry, and the praiser.  You understand that?  This is really.... sometimes you can lead others into praise, even both of you.  You’ve overcome your selfishness and self-centeredness.  You can’t praise God and remain selfish.  So you’ve got a calling right in here. 

·                     Get ready for this to start coming to blue in you — revelation.  You got that?  This is the driest thing in you.  Feel this counsel in you.  Oh, we can see it here.  Look here?  See it?  That love in you is ripe. 

·                     That pastoral mother in you is real.  I feel the balm coming.  Good, good, good.  Let it flow in your hands.  That anointing is there now.  You’ll feel the trembling and things coming.  This is Isaiah 66:2.  This trembling that came into you like it did then, you’ll feel it when you’re praying for others.  See?  When you begin to pray for others, come.  You got it?  Good. 

·                     Take a deep breath now, brother.  Good.  There it comes.  Good.  I want to show you something.  The rest of you watch this.  Okay.  Keep going.  Now let your spirit ... that’s it.  That’s it.  Good!  It’s like pouring water out of a well.  There you go.  That’s pulling Jesus up.  Good.  There it is.  See how it comes on the back of your head?  Good, that’s where you set ‘em free.  You set ‘em free with power.  Take that breath.  Good, good.  There’s your spirit man.  That’s it.  Good. Hallelujah.

·                     Now, when you’re ministering to people, this is what you do.  You can’t do anything for them.  It’s Jesus in your spirit that does it.  And when you put faith in love, releasing them, He’ll do the things He always did.  See that flow?  That’s power, brother.  See it?  See how it comes through you?  If you’ll just love.  You don’t have to know anything.  If you know, then God teaches you over on the side.  But when the Spirit comes, He’ll do what He wants to do. 

·                     One thing He’s doing here in a big way, He’s going to heal emotions.  Bonnie’s done a teaching on that, and later on today she’ll be sharing with you.  You got any questions?  It’s sort of like family here.  If you’ve got any questions, let’s get it out.  Amen. 

·                                                                     He’s preparing you ... all this preparation ... He’s like a surgeon preparing people for a new heart.  People need to be prepped for the surgery.       This is your job — prep ‘em.         

·                     This is your heart coming here — a divine heart.
