"Milk and Honey" ✡ Have a Sweet New Year!

You gave them this Land that You swore to their forefathers to give them a Land flowing with milk
and honey.

JEREMIAH (32:22)

Jerusalem Inspiration

Throughout their time in the desert, the Jews were promised by Moses that God would bring them to a land filled with milk and honey. This became the main symbol for the blessing which God bestows upon the Land of Israel. When we dip our apples in honey on Rosh Hashanah, we try to appreciate the source of this sweet blessing. As the holiday draws to a close and the Days of Repentance begin, ushering in a time of deep reflection, heartfelt prayer, and resolutions for change, we remember the extraordinary connection between the Jewish people and the Land of Israel and honor our ancient birthright by striving to become worthy to live within its borders. Learn about Israel in its original Biblical context and understand more about the Holy Land than you ever imagined with our new box-set of the 5 Books of Moses.

"I Have Gathered My Myrrh With My Spice" ✡ Christian Fufills Prophecy on Temple Mount

I am come into my garden, my sister, my bride;
I have gathered my myrrh with my spice; I have eatenmy honeycomb with my honey; I have drunk my wine with my milk. Eat, O friends; drink, yea, drink abundantly, O beloved.

SONG OF SONGS (5:1)

ba-tee l'-ga-nee a-kho-tee kha-lah a-ree-tee mo-ree im b'-sa-mee a-khal-tee
ya-ree im div-shee sha-tee-tee yay-nee im kha-la-vee ikh-lu ray-eem sh'-tu v'-shikh-ru do-deem

Jerusalem Inspiration

Jewish tradition teaches that this verse from Song of Songs is a metaphor for the Lord entering the Temple that the Jewish people have erected for Him, and partaking in the sacrifices that they offer to Him. The garden is a reference to the holy Temple and the gathering of myrrh and spice is the acceptance of the ritual incense offering that is brought in His honor. God "eats" and "drinks" the offerings and libations by means of a fire which descends from heaven to consume them. Finally, He calls upon his “friends”, the loyal priests, to partake in their share of the sacrifices. Though there is no longer a Temple standing where we can offer physical sacrifices to the Lord, each year at Rosh Hashana, the Jewish people are called to make spiritual sacrifices to God, and to renew their spirits and souls. We celebrate the opportunity to come close to God by partaking of our own "libations" - a joyous feast filled with foods that symbolize our hopes for the new year, including apples and honey to signify the sweetness of our relationship with the Divine. Sweeten your new year with honey from the Holy Land this Rosh Hashana!

Christian Child Fulfills Prophecy of Isaiah 56:7 on the Temple Mount

This incredibly poignant video shows the fulfillment of the words of Isaiah coming true. A young boy is seen saying the prayer of Shema Yisrael on the Temple Mount with total devotion, his hand covering his eyes precisely as Jewish law requires. What is remarkable about this video is that the young boy is not Jewish!

Divine Pattern of Jubilee Cycle Hints to "Period of Worldwide Great Change"

The Biblical requirement to count the Jubilee, the 50th year after seven shmittah cycles, is not currently observed by the Jewish people in or outside of the Land of Israel. Nevertheless, next year follows an interesting sequence of messianic advancements that are exactly 49 years apart.

Yesterday's Photo Trivia

Yesterday's trivia referred to Bezalel, the son of Uri from the tribe of Judah (Exodus 31:1). Bezalel was the primary artisan chosen for the undertaking of building the Tabernacle in the desert. Thus, it is very fitting that the Jerusalem crafts fair take place in a market named after this ancient artist.

Sweet Taste of the Land of Milk & Honey ✡ "A Little Honey, Wax and Lotus"

So Israel, their father, said to them, "If so, then do this: take some of the choice fruits of the Land in your vessels, and carry down to the man as a present, a little balm and a little honey, wax and lotus, pistachios and almonds."

GENESIS (43:11)

Today's Israel Inspiration

Jacob commands his sons to bring an offering to Pharoah's viceroy, some choice fruits of the land. A 'minkha', present, says R' Samson Raphael Hirsch, indicates a gift that benefits the giver more than the receiver. Obviously, this gift benefits the sons of Jacob in that it can cause the viceroy to view them favorably. However, the gift carries the added benefit of reminding the sons of their homeland and its blessings, as they again journey down to Egypt. Give yourself a delicious gift from the Land of Milk & Honey!

Photo Trivia Tuesday ✡ "A Beginning of Months for You"

This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year to you.

EXODUS (12:2)

הַחֹדֶשׁ הַזֶּה לָכֶם רֹאשׁ חֳדָשִׁים  רִאשׁוֹן הוּא לָכֶם לְחָדְשֵׁי הַשָּׁנָה

שמות יב:ב

ha-kho-desh ha-zeh la-khem rosh kho-da-sheem ri-shon hu la-khem l'-khod-shay ha-sha-nah

Jerusalem Inspiration

When the first sliver of the new moon appears, 'rosh khodesh', literally "head of the month," is celebrated. Last Friday night marked the first day of the month of Elul, which is an incredibly important month in the Hebrew calendar. It is the last month before Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, which is the moment when all are judged on the deeds of the past year, and their fates for the new year are inscribed in the Book of Life. Therefore, the month of Elul is a time of great repentance and reflection for Jews worldwide. In addition to preparing spiritually, Jews also prepare physically, cooking and decorating homes to celebrate the holiday, which is ushered in with a large festive meal. This feast includes a symbolic collection of foods which represent the hopes for the new year. Chief among them is the dish of "apples and honey". According to tradition, the apple symbolizes the garden of Eden, and the honey expresses both the wish for a "sweet New Year" and the bounty of the Land of Israel, known as the land of "milk and honey." There is no honey as sweet as honey from the Holy Land!

Dip Your Apple in the Honey

DON'T MISS this fantastically fun "Rosh Hashana" version of Shakira's iconic "This Time For Africa". The Fountainheads are one of the best-known young Jewish music groups today, and this video does not disappoint as we watch people all over Israel singing out the joy of the New Year and practicing dipping apples in honey!

200-Year-Old "Messiah Clock" Counts Down to the Final Redemption

For the Jewish nation, thousands of years have been spent in counting down to a time period that will ultimately usher in the final redemption. A special clock, known as the Messiah clock, has been counting down the final arrival of the Messiah for the last 200 years, giving hope and inspiration to generations of Jews during turbulent times.

The Letters of Jonathan Netanyahu

On July 4, 1976, a team of Israeli commandos stormed Entebbe airport. Their leader was thirty-year-old Lieutenant-Colonel Jonathan (Yoni) Netanyhu. Their mission was to free 106 hostages held by international terrorists. An hour later, the hostages were safely on their way home, and Yoni had fallen in the battle for their lives. His legend was born that day. This book, containing his eloquent, passionate, revealing letters, gives a glimpse into the mind of a modern-day Israeli warrior and honors his sacrifice for the Land of Israel.
