Pope Francis arrived in Cairo on Friday hoping to mend ties with Muslim leaders, just as Egypt's ancient Christian community faces unprecedented pressure from Islamic State militants who have threatened to wipe it out.
In an address to the Egyptian people this week, Francis said he hoped his visit would help bring peace and encourage dialog and reconciliation with the Islamic world.
But it comes at a painful time for Egypt's Copts, the Middle East's largest Christian community, three weeks after Islamic State suicide bombers killed 45 people in twin church bombings.
Those attacks followed a cathedral bombing that killed 28 people in December and a spree of murders that has forced hundreds of Christians to flee North Sinai, where the group is most active.
"Pope of Peace in Egypt of Peace," read posters plastered along the road leading from the airport to central Cairo, showing a smiling pope, his hand raised above the Christian cross and the Crescent moon of Islam.
Military Humvees patrolled the streets and soldiers guarded routes the pope will take. As on other foreign visits, Pope Francis will shun armored limousines during his 27-hour stay and use a normal car, saying this lets him be nearer the people.
Streets close to the Vatican embassy in Cairo and other sites have been cleared of cars and blocked off, and pedestrians were not allowed to linger.
"After all the pain we have experienced ... we are satisfied and confident that the state is taking strong security measures to prevent terrorism and protect churches," said Father Boulos Halim, spokesman of the Coptic Orthodox church to which the majority of Egypt's Christians belong.
"It's in the state's interests to protect its nationals, and the Copts are not an independent people, they are part and parcel of the nation itself."
Strained Relations
Francis will meet President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi; Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, the world's most influential seat of Sunni Islamic theology and learning; and PopeTawadros II, head of the Coptic Orthodox Church who narrowly escaped a church bombing in Alexandria on Palm Sunday.
Francis is expected to give his key address to a conference on religious dialog at Al-Azhar, part of efforts to improve relations with the 1,000-year-old center after Egyptian Muslim leaders cut ties in 2011 over what they said were repeated insults against Islam by Pope Benedict.
Tayeb visited the Vatican last year after restoring relations. Widely considered among the most moderate clerics in Egypt, Tayeb has condemned Islamic State and its practice of declaring others as infidels as a pretext for waging jihad.
Francis denounces violence in God's name and papal aides say a moderate like Tayeb would be an important ally in condemning radical Islam.
But Tayeb is under fire over the slow pace of reform at Azhar, which critics in Egypt's parliament and media accuse of failing to combat the religious foundations of Islamist extremism. They say Azhar is an ossified institution whose clerics have resisted pressure from Sisi to modernize their religious discourse.

Pope Francis 'Prayer' Video Smacks of 'One World Religion' - JENNIFER LECLAIRE CHARISMA NEWS

Pope Francis 'Prayer' Video Smacks of 'One World Religion'

Many people think Pope Francis is the Antichrist, or at least the false prophet. Videos like this one don't do him any favors.
Although no reasonable person would argue against living in peace in a world of conflicting religions, the pontiff takes this ideal to a new extreme in a video message illustrating his heartfelt prayer request.
"Most of the planet's inhabitants declare themselves believers. This should lead to a dialogue among religions," he said in Italian. "We should not stop praying for it and collaborating with those who think differently."
Of course, dialogue is one thing. Compromising the tenets of Christianity is altogether different.
The video then shows quick shots of people stating their religious convictions.
A lama declares, "I have confidence in Buddha."
A rabbi confesses, "I believe in God."
A Catholic priest declares, "I believe in Jesus Christ."
An Islamic leader shares, "I believe in God, Allah."
Notably, no evangelicals or Pentecostals were in the mix.
Disturbing video footage shows the pope receiving a demonic statue from a Buddhist and bending down to pray according to Muslim tradition.
"Many think differently, feel differently, seeking God or meeting God in different ways," he says. "In this crowd, in this range of religions, there is only one certainty we have for all: We are all children of God."
Here's the problem: You can seek God in many ways, but there's only one way to the Father. There is only one way to meet God, and His name is Jesus Christ. To even hint at anything else causes confusion at best and deceives many at worst.

Did Pope Francis Really Take Another Step Toward a One World Religion? - JESSILYN JUSTICE CHARISMA NEWS

Despite Pope Francis' literal embracing of a top Islamic cleric and declaration that their "Meeting is the message," his top aid said Christians must apply Matthew 28 to everyone, including Muslims.
"We have a mission to convert all non-Christian religions' people [except] Judaism," Cardinal Kurt Koch said. "And what is very important for us is that we can make mission only with a credible witness and without any proselytism."
The Jews are God's chosen people, he continued. Christians should view them as a "mother" figure. But Islam and Christianity are vastly different.
"I don't think that we have the same relationship with Islam that we have with Judaism.

"It is very clear that we can speak about three Abrahamic religions but we cannot deny that the view of Abraham in the Jewish tradition and the Christian tradition and the Islamic tradition is not the same. In this sense we have only with Jewish people this unique relationship that we have not with Islam."
Koch's comments were reported the day after Pope Francis welcomed Sheik Ahmed el-Tayyib to the Vatican.
"If you have not see this video, it is one of the creepiest things that I have ever seen on YouTube. It has become exceedingly clear that Pope Francis believes that all major religions are completely valid paths to the same God, and there is virtually no uproar over this," Charisma News' Michael Snyder says of the Pope's actions. "This just shows how late in the game we really are. The one world religion that was prophesied nearly 2,000 years ago in the book of Revelation is starting to come to life, and we are witnessing the events of the last days begin to unfold right in front of our eyes."

Did Pope Francis Really Just Take a Big Step Toward One World Religion?
Watchman on the Wall, by Jennifer LeClaire

Jennifer LeClaire is now sharing her reflections and revelations through Walking in the Spirit. Listen at charismapodcastnetwork.com.

Over the summer, I penned a column about why so many people think Pope Francis is the Antichrist. It caused quite a stir.
If you type "is Pope Francis antichrist" into Google, you'll get about 425,000 results in .37 seconds. As it turns out, if you type "Pope Francis one world religion" into Google, you'll get 10.8 million results in .62 seconds.
So why do so many people think—or at least ponder—that the Latin American pontiff is ushering in a one world religion or New World Order? There are many reasons, some of which I listed in my last article, not the least of which is his apparent call for a New World Order on more than one occasion.
Now, a Reuters report is adding more fuel to that fire. Taking his message of peace to the Central Africa Republic, Pope Francis declared what some end-time watchers are calling a step toward a "one world religion."
"Christians and Muslims are brothers and sisters. Those who claim to believe in God must also be men and women of peace," Reuters reports the pontiff as saying.
Francis then appealed for "an end to every act which, from whatever side, disfigures the face of God and whose ultimate aim is to defend particular interests by any and all means. ... Together, we must say no to hatred, to revenge and to violence, particularly that violence which is perpetrated in the name of a religion or of God Himself."

Certainly, we are all God's children, which makes us all brothers and sisters to some extent. But does his statement, as some suggest, mean that Francis has embraced Chrislam? Is he covertly laying the foundation for a one world religion? Is he intentionally planting seeds that will pave the way for a New World Order? Could he be working with the United Nations to introduce a one world economic system?
"Many Christians have been sitting back and waiting for one giant 'event' to happen, but the truth is that small steps toward a one world government, a one world economy and a one world religion are happening almost constantly now," Michael Snyder, founder of The Economic Collapse Blog, told Charisma News. "The apostle John warned that these things would happen nearly 2,000 years ago, and now they are playing out right in front of our eyes. When will people finally start to wake up?"
There's plenty of speculation about one currency, one government, one religion—but is Pope Francis really the False Prophet paving the way for all of this and the Antichrist to boot? Could the socialistic pontiff who has worked so hard to reconcile with Pentecostals have ulterior motives? Is he really the last pope?
I suppose only God has all those answers. But the problem with some of end times conspiracy philosophies is that they don't leave much room for God to be God. I speak with many legitimate prophetic voices, and I haven't heard any of them mention a word from God about the pope in these regards, though it is clear from Scripture that there will be an economic collapse, a False Prophet, an Antichrist rising and more.
Could we all be missing it? Yes, of course. Anyone can miss it. Do I agree with the pope's religion? No. Do I agree with his politics? No. But do I believe he's the Antichrist or the False Prophet or that he's got a diabolical plan to destroy America? No. And even if I'm wrong, I'd rather be pressing into prayer and intercession—and to evangelism and equipping—than hyper-focusing on what the devil might do next. And if I'm wrong, we're going to need the one true God's intervention more than we think.
