"Reunion" - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

“Reunion"

"Then Esau ran to meet him and embraced him, and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept." (Genesis 33:4, NASU)

Jacob had long been separated from his brother Esau, going back to the time when Jacob did a bit of deceptive work and ended up with Esau's birthright. (Genesis 27-28) Having done that to Esau as Jacob dis, I would suspect that quite possibly you and I would have felt the same towards Jacob as Esau later did. Maybe not so much murder, but close to it. Or at least a little bit of animosity to say the least?

After all, none of us can declare that which would say, "I never had bitterness nor hatred towards anyone." At least I know I can't.

Many examples are written in God's Word, all are for our benefit, as Paul states in 1 Cor 10:11-12
"Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come." (NASU)

When Esau ran and embraced Jacob, it gives us several reasons that he was able to do this. You will have to read some of the preceding Scriptures for the full picture, but let me summarize as to what I think happened in Esau's heart.

1. "Esau ran to meet him". During the years of separation between the two brothers, the Lord had worked a change in Esau's heart. Maybe he realized the temporal here on earth, his birthright lost, wasn't worth the pain and agony, or hatred, toward his brother. He knew he hadn't been the perfect brother either.

It is known that carrying these attitudes towards another, as in unforgiveness, eats away at your mind, soul, and spirit. Hopefully, as you grow older in the Lord you become aware of this, and turn, with repentance, from this sin.

When Esau ran to meet Jacob, he had already left all that behind. Nothing was holding him back now from expressing joy and love towards his younger brother.

2. "embraced him, and fell on his neck and kissed him" Esau led the way in showing total forgiveness and repentance on his part. Having already known the Lord's forgiveness on his part, he was able and willing to express that totally, and not hold back. It takes a mature believer to lead the way.

3. "they wept." I trust you too have known the release of years having pent-up emotions, and when a reunion occurs between friends and relatives that had been separation due to hurt, injustice, lies or selfishness, having a good cry, a fantastic flow of tears and all, feels really good. They let it all go. and let it all out.

I love when a reunion takes place between father and son, mother and daughter, cousin and cousin, employee and employer, pastor and congregant. Forgiveness is a great gift from our Father, Who Himself is always the first to express forgiveness. Having sent His Only Son Jesus, Yeshua, to die for our sins in order that we to may be forgiven was the very first ultimate step in restoration and reunion.

This week the Louis and Lila Martin clan celebrate another time of gathering in our biennial (once every two years event - I had to look it up myself). There certainly have been times of separation and individual reunions, but through the ongoing grace and mercy of our Lord, this family of 8 siblings has held together over these 60+ years. Thank God!

May the Lord give you the grace and love to express forgiveness in your relationships, because Lord knows we need it. And if you have a family or friend reunion coming up this summer, have a great time!

Now think on this, and see what good things the Lord has in store for you and those around you.

Ryan Johnson: "Sons and Daughters: The Emerging Glory is Moving Upon the Earth!"

THE ELIJAH LIST
Aug 3, 2017

Steve ShultzFrom the desk of Steve Shultz:
This is a sobering word by Ryan Johnson from Alabama and the state of where we are individually and in the Church. It will really get you thinking and offers an honest perspective.
As I read through Ryan's article, the word "Healing" came to me. That is what the whole of this article is about...receiving healing in areas you may need.
Ryan shares:
The Father is looking for sons who are ready to come back so that they may be able to be adorned in the attire of the Father. He is looking for sons, not servants. Those who can take on the identity of the Father that they may reveal the glory. The Emerging Glory is moving about the earth and those who will be obedient will release the goodness of God with fresh oil.
I encourage you to read this word, receive your healing...as God is going to pour out His glory mightily upon His sons and daughters. (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

The evidence of glory is being established throughout many different regions and it will not come as a surprise to a lot of God's people. We will begin hearing the testimonies of healings and miracles and powerful stories of deliverances, restoration, and salvations. There's an Emerging Glory throughout our days ahead.
While many will linger in despair or doomsday words, there will be those who see the demonstration of the goodness of God. As God pours out of His abundance, the question becomes whether or not you will be added to or subtracted from. In the structure of God's glory you will see that in order to multiply, God often takes away.
"Why smell like smoke when you can glow in stature?"
He will pluck up those who refuse to replant – those who will receive but don't bear fruit. He will cut down an unfruitful tree in order to make room for a fruit-bearing tree. He will also prune the fruit-bearing tree (Ekklesia) in order to bring new growth. As this is the question: Will God have to remove you to move with His glory or will He be able to use you in the Emerging of Glory?
The Vision and Word
While spending time with the Lord, I was shown a vision of many individuals who at first seemed to be lost. They were almost in a state of wander. These individuals were in the woods walking and functioning as though everything around them was happening, and yet nothing was actually happening.
They were talking, walking, and moving about, but they were in a daze as if they were there in their body but not in their mind. As the vision was unfolding, I began to realize that although there were so many people, no one recognized that there were others. It was as if each person was in their own world functioning, but they were in the woods wandering through the territory. This went on for awhile until the moment that I asked the Lord to explain to me what I was seeing.
The LORD said, "Many have been enamored with the flame of My presence, but not engulfed within the pursuit of My glory. There are those who have become satisfied in the wilderness as they wander from place to place, looking to be captivated with the flame of My presence, but not willing to be obedient in My glory.
"They are functioning in everyday life, being everyday sons and daughters, but unwilling to do what is necessary for the revelation of My glory. They call unto the Body for unity, but wander aimlessly among the wilderness never to recognize that they themselves refuse to become one. Rather they stand alone, calling for the others to get in line, while they are refusing to come into order. (Photo via Pexels)
"They will continue to wander among the wilderness until they surrender their motives of rebellion. They proclaim to be lovers of My presence, but always unwilling to be submissive to those whom I have sent to be a help. They proclaim to be hungry for righteousness, but they have determined to walk as orphans among the trees.
"I am calling the sons and daughters out of the wandering and into My righteousness. I am calling upon those who will fight through the rebellion and yearn for My glory to be revealed. For now there is an emerging of glory rising among the Ekklesia in the nations of the earth. You will see coming to you what is owed to you."

The Brokenness
After seeing this and hearing the Lord speak concerning the state of many sons and daughters, my heart was immediately broken. From the words that He spoke to me, I sensed a sincere compassion for restoration. I know that it sounds strange, but those words caused my heart to grieve over those individuals. Even though the word from the Lord seems a bit harsh, there is a pure heart of restoration from the Father attached to each word.
The vision and the declaration are not to condemn these individuals. Rather, it is a call to recognize where you, me, or others could potentially be and make a choice to change. The word of the Lord is for the sons and daughters to be obedient in every way that we shall see the glory of the Lord in a way that has not yet been poured out upon the nations.
Broken But Not Destroyed
"Will God have to remove you to move with His glory or will He be able to use you in the Emerging of Glory?"
I see many of you have fought tooth and nail to get to the place where you are. Yet, you have found yourself a part of something that was birthed due to being forced into a situation. Meaning, you are doing what you're doing because someone did something to you that caused you to be exactly where you are. For example, I have noticed that there are many ministries which are the result of "church hurt".
Somewhere along the way you were in leadership, doing what God called you to do and a person (leader/member) did something that created a deep wound in your spirit. You left what you were doing and now you are leading the charge, making sure that no one ever hurts you ever again. You work hard to make sure that you don't structure things like the previous ministry and you always watch your back. Granted, not all ministries started out this way, but reality is some have. I believe it's something that we have to address as we look back at the above vision/word.
I hear it often, "We don't need a covering, God is our covering," or, "We don't have to be in alignment with anyone, as God is our alignment," and "Our accountability is one another, that's why we don't have any voices outside of this house."
I get it! Trust me, I get it. I have been lied about, manipulated by leaders, and the list could go on. In each case, I had to make the decision to walk through deliverance from unforgiveness, anger, bitterness, etc. It's so easy to allow the pain/hurt to now direct our motives before we ever recognize how far we have gone. That's why I believe this vision/word means so much to those who are leading ministries. It's critical that you recognize that an orphan spirit deceives you into believing that you don't need a covering over your personal life and ministry. (Photo via Wikimedia Commons)
"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God. For you have not received the spirit of slavery again to fear. But you have received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, 'Abba, Father!' The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirits that we are the children of God, and if children, then heirs: heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified with Him." (Romans 8:14-17)
From Wander to Wonder
An orphan spirit will convince you that you don't need anyone, because everyone is out to hurt you. You need to know that this spirit is lying to you! Throughout the Bible, accountability is a constant principle. God established order from the very beginning and still expects you and I to follow order.
Although you will encounter a season of wilderness, it is never the intent of the Father to abandon you there as you wander from place to place. God is calling you out of the wander and into His wonder. There is an order in the Kingdom of God and the Father requires us to be obedient. When we reject the covering that He has placed within us, we choose to be disobedient. Thus, setting ourselves up to be satisfied by the glimpse of fire, but not willing to pursue glory that comes beyond fire. I want to encourage you to seek the glory of God. As great as His fire is (and it is great), it is the glory that carries the abundance.
Why smell like smoke when you can glow in stature?
Listen, only you know whether or not you have embraced an orphan spirit that has developed a lone-ranger mindset. If you have, be encouraged that the Father is calling upon you to repent and position yourself in the order of His purpose that ultimately produces all of His goodness to go before you (Exodus 33:18-23).
The Snake That Bites – Part 2 Healing the Hurt - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

The Snake That Bites – Part 2
Healing the Hurt

Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“They called him every name in the book and he said nothing back. He suffered in silence, content to let God set things right. He used his servant body to carry our sins to the Cross so we could be rid of sin, free to live the right way. His wounds became your healing. You were lost sheep with no idea who you were or where you were going. Now you're named and kept for good by the Shepherd of your souls.” (1 Peter 2:23-25, THE MESSAGE)

While growing up in the Midwest, Cedar Falls, Iowa to be exact, one of my heart’s desire, even at an early age, was to be a missionary priest/doctor to Africa. Now I realized that being a “missionary”, and a “priest”, and a “doctor”, and then going to the faraway, dark continent of “Africa” wasn’t the most probable, nor desirable, career path for most 8th graders in the late 60’s. Even my grade school Roman Catholic priest, Father Purcell, who taught the eleven of us in our religion class, said I should give up that prayer and be content at becoming a diocesan priest. You know, stay here in the comforts of America.

So what does that have to do with my first Now Think On This message on The Snake That Bites? Well, let me tell you.

The Lord Jesus puts it in the heart of His people to carry His love to the nations.  It used to be that the only way you could actually fulfill that command was to go. Literally become a missionary, leave all behind, and go to a foreign land having absolutely nothing in common with the civilization you grew up in your first 18 years of life. Some still do that. I bless them in Jesus’ Name for their courage and longing to fulfill His commandment to take His Gospel, Good News, to the nations.

Taking His healing word to the nations.
The globe serves as a reminder in our home.

But now, through the great advancements that God Himself has given to men and women, with ever increasing revealed knowledge to excel in all kinds of new discoveries, we can take His Words to the nations through social media. Just as He had the Romans build the extensive road system, extending their kingdom throughout the known land in their time, they unknowingly made the way to enable the apostles and other believers to travel easily.

Today He has also given inventions, technical savvy, and vast understanding to mankind, to “build the roads” in our time – such as primarily the Internet, to get His Gospel out. (Sorry Al Gore. Not you.)

Thus, finally, I am getting to the point I want to make. The Lord has made a great way to get His word out, to bring His healing to the people of the world. Going as a missionary has now become possible for each of us who call on the Name of the Lord Yeshua (Jesus). Through social media.

Bringing you His healing word has been His desire from the start. He wants people freed from the snake bite where it all began in the Garden of Eden. His plan of redemption and salvation has been eternal, and now you and I can experience this, wherever you are at this moment in time and space.

Much of the mental and body sickness we experience is the result of the spiritual diseases we carry. Proven medical facts.

There is healing from the snake bites you have received over the years. There is a way to be free from the resulting bitterness, resentment, and even hatred that first brought infection into your spirit, which moved down into your soul (mind, will and emotions), and then eventually manifested itself in your body. Yes, spiritual sickness shows itself in soulish and physical outlays. Many mental and body sickness is the result of the spiritual diseases we carry.

Needing forgiveness, receiving it first from the One who alone can begin the process, and then acting on His work yourself, will bring the healing that the snake venom poisoned you with after each bite.

“For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps, WHO COMMITTED NO SIN, NOR WAS ANY DECEIT FOUND IN HIS MOUTH; and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously; and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed. For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.” (1 Peter 2:21-25, NASU)

Jesus’ death on the brutal Roman cross was the plan from the beginning with His Father. He knew ahead of time, before He came as the sinless Lamb, that He was going to suffer, receive 39 gouging whip lasses from the laughing soldiers, and hang on the mocking, cursed tree, in order to complete the required payment for mankind’s sin – the shedding of Innocent Blood for the forgiveness of our sins. Then and only then could the healing process begin, to free us from the sickness and death caused by our sin, including unforgiveness which we carry far too long in our daily life.

“For it was the Father's good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.

And although you were formerly alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds, yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach —  if indeed you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, was made a minister.”
(Col 1:19-23, NASU)

And being there are always two sides to the coin…who have you hurt with your biting words, quick temper, or rude remarks? Repentance is both for you, me and the others. It goes both ways. Consider asking forgiveness from those whom you have bitten with your own venom.

Are you willing to be forgiven for your sins? You can ask Jesus Christ, Yeshua HaMashiach, for the first time in your life, or for the ongoing confession of sin, to be free from the lasting effects of the venom we carry. Crying out to the Lord and Savior is simple. You just have to do it.

Do you hold unforgiveness towards your Mom, Dad, sister, brother, boss, close friend? How about your pastor (or your church member - yes I know!) or your co-worker. The list can be inexhaustible. Anyone who has said, did or acted against you, and that one you so want to get back at for hurting you? If so, you need to accept the forgiveness you have already first received, as a sinner, acknowledge the wrong was wrong, but now know that it is time to let it go, to let the Blood of Jesus wash over you, and bring healing to your spirit, soul and body.

Repentance and forgiveness. Again, it is simple.

You don’t have to work yourself up in an emotional frenzy, or bring up every occasion when you received the stinging wound.

Just quietly and with resolve say, “Jesus, I forgive them, as you have first forgiven me.” Say each name or memory that the Holy Spirit brings to mind right now, forgive them, and receive the healing touch from your loving Father and His Only Son Jesus, the Savior of the world.

Let the Father forgive your sins. You then in turn forgive those who sinned against you. That also is in the Lord’s prayer you learned as a child (I hope.)

As I said, I didn’t make it as the missionary priest doctor that I wanted to be, but now the Lord has allowed me to bring His truth and healing word to you, in your very nation. It is just in a much wider realm.

Be free again to enjoy life. Rejoice in Jesus and give thanks!

"Forgiveness and the Future of Your City"by Francis Frangipane, Cedar Rapids, IA

When I look at the conditions of our world – the deep racial and political divisions, immigration problems, terror threats, national debt, wars, and lawlessness in our cities – a deep foreboding comes over my soul. As Christians, we all believe the call of 2 Chronicles 7:14 offers hope – but what if there is no response to the call to humble ourselves and pray? Is there anything we can do to restore hope and stability?

There is a situation mentioned in the Bible that offers a solution. Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, "...and all his army, with all the kingdoms of the earth that were under his dominion and all the peoples, were fighting against Jerusalem" (Jer. 34:1). Because of Israel's sin even the Lord had seemingly withdrawn. For nearly forty years, Jeremiah pleaded with God's people to repent, but they would not. Israel was nearly apostate, and the dire and repeated warnings of Jeremiah were about to come to pass.

However, hidden in the ways of God was a plan, a redemptive strategy that would reverse Israel's direction. If the Jews implemented a "Year of Remission" (see Deut. 15:1-18), God would show to them the same mercy they showed to one another. What was required was that "each man [would] set free his male servant and each man his female servant...so that no one [would] keep them, a Jew his brother, in bondage" (Jer. 34:9).

Not only did they agree to this year of release, but "all the officials and all the people obeyed." Then, in earnest faith, they "entered into the covenant...so that no one should keep them any longer in bondage; they obeyed, and set them free" (Jer. 34:10).

The Bible says the Judeans then cut a calf in two and passed "between its parts" (Jer. 34:18). This was the same kind of covenant ritual Abraham had made with the Lord centuries earlier (see Gen. 15:10, 17-18.). The redemptive plan of God was this: If the Israelites set free their slaves, they would not be taken as slaves. If they showed mercy, God would show Himself merciful to them as well. Even though they were, by all counts, nearly apostate, the act of releasing the debts of others would have averted the destruction of their cities, for "mercy triumphs over judgment" (James 2:13)!

As they were releasing one another, something marvelous occurred. Supernaturally the Lord drew "the king of Babylon…away" (Jer. 34:21). At the very moment the people were releasing the debts of others, God was reducing their debt to Him. What they did on earth was actually being replicated for them in Heaven!

In all the years since the establishment of the Law, Israel had never celebrated such a year of release. Yet now, even with their enemies within striking range, Israel covenanted with God to free every man his slave.

Unforgiveness in the Church

How does the above story relate to us? Today we too are facing overwhelming foes. Our society is overrun with corruption and the Church is hardly better than the world. The prophets are warning of judgment, and at times, it seems as though God has stopped listening to our prayers.

Yet I believe if we can sincerely forgive those who are spiritual debtors to us – even starting with those in our homes and families – if we extend forgiveness to our neighbors and proclaim release to those who left our churches, if Blacks could forgive Whites and white people forgive people of color, the mercy of God will begin to fall again on our land.
Let the Lord reveal all with whom you have unforgiveness. Let mayors announce a day of release. Let white police and people from the Black community pray for each other, asking for forgiveness for mistakes and abuses. If we show mercy, God will show mercy as well.

Don't forget – Jesus taught that if we are at the altar and remember someone has unforgiveness toward us, we are to leave our offering and be reconciled (Matt. 5:23-24). Reconciliation is more important than ritual, according to the Lord. Yes, let us covenant with God for our communities and even for our nation!

Indeed, let us take this one step further: Let us release those who have voted for candidates with whom we strongly disagree.

It is time to rid ourselves of every debt we feel we are owed by others. And let us start anew to rebuild our lives in Christ and reunite in the power of redemption. Let us bring Christ's covenant of forgiveness into our interracial relationships, and let us, each one, forgive others as completely as God in Christ has forgiven us.

The Sad End of Jeremiah 34

In spite of the great breakthrough Israel experienced, their story ends badly. For when the enemy left and the pressure was off, each man "took back" his male and female servants and "brought them into subjection" (see vs. 13-16).

Beloved, hear me please: If only the Jews would have followed through and held fast their release, the Book of Lamentations never would have been written! Mercy would have triumphed and remained, but such was not the case.

Still, for us, the final chapters of our times are yet to be written. We can learn from the example we see in Jeremiah 34.

If we will embrace mercy, if we can sincerely release one another, we will escape the dire expectations coming to meet our sinful society. Our actions today, even now, will determine whether our society is blessed or judged. Let us, therefore, release the debts of every man and covenant for mercy for our land.

Heavenly Father, we recall the words of Jesus, Your Son. He mentioned how often He desired to gather the people together, but they would not have it. He warned that their house would be left to them desolate. We hear this and set our hearts to forgive and maintain forgiveness. We ask to be gathered together, to forgive and to be healed from the burden of our past. God have mercy on us even as we extend mercy to others. In Jesus' name. Amen.
