As Sources Predicted, Trump Will Declare Jerusalem the Capital of Israel—Pray for the City's Peace

STEVE STRANG  CHARISMA NEWS
As Christians, we know we are to "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: May they prosper who love you!" (Ps. 122:6, MEV).
U.S. President Donald Trump will make a historic announcement in Jerusalem on Dec. 6, Mike Evans says. Evans, an evangelical Christian and founding member of the Trump Evangelical Initiative, says President Trump will recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
Several news sources reported today that Trump told Israeli and Arab leaders he plans to do that on Wednesday. This is gigantic news and constitutes a major, fulfilled promise to both evangelical Christians and to the Jewish community.
Nearly an hour later, CBN News reported that President Trump has informed Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas that the U.S. will move its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. CBN's report said that several news sources quoted an Abbas spokesman, saying Trump made the announcement in a phone call Tuesday. That news has been confirmed by a tweet from the Palestinian Liberation Organization.
Some say declaring Jerusalem the capital of Israel is actually more important than moving the embassy, but it certainly must be a precursor to it. We must help our evangelical friends understand this, especially those who are only focused on the embassy and not thinking about the significance of Jerusalem.
So that you are better informed, take the time to watch Jared Kushner talk about the peace process during his interview at the Saban Forum this past weekend. Paula White-Cain, who prayed at the president's inauguration, sent me this link and asked me to encourage my readers to watch it because Kushner speaks of the progress being made to bring peace to that part of the world.
Johnnie Moore of the Kairos Group told one reporter this morning who speculated about the announcement that many evangelicals believe "Moving the embassy is of political importance, but naming Jerusalem the capital is even more than that; it is of theological importance to our community."
Charismanews.com will report what happens Wednesday as well as when a formal decision to the move the embassy is made. For now, it's important believers are praying "for the peace of Jerusalem" as these decisions are announced and instituted.
Today, I received an email from Evangelist Alveda King also asking for prayer for this decision. She added: "President Trump is on a record promise-keeping roll. His support for Israel, undergirded by our 'prayers for the peace of Jerusalem' are encouraging evidence that God is blessing us."
Share this and encourage others as we band together to pray for this important announcement Wednesday.

President Trump Moving US Embassy to Jerusalem, Palestinians Threaten 'Rage' - CBN News

President Trump Moving US Embassy to Jerusalem, Palestinians Threaten 'Rage'
12-05-2017
President Trump has reportedly told Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas that the U.S. will move the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
A spokesman for Abbas said Trump made the announcement in a phone call Tuesday, and that news has been confirmed by a tweet from the Palestinian Liberation Organization.
"President Mahmoud Abbas received a phone call from U.S. President Donald Trump in which he notified the president of his intention to move the American Embassy to Tel Aviv to Jerusalem," Abbas spokesman Nabil Abu Rdainah said in a press release.
On "The 700 Club" Wednesday morning, CBN News will hear from pro-Israel congressman Rep. Ron DeSantis about the embassy move to Jerusalem.
Rdainah did not say if Trump specified when the embassy would be moved, but the New York Times is reporting the move will not happen within the next six months due to logistical issues.
The Times also reports King Abdullah II of Jordan received a similar message from Trump.
The White House confirmed President Trump spoke by phone with the leaders of Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the Palestinian Authority and he reaffirmed his commitment to going forward with Israeli-Palestinian peace talks. They also discussed potential decisions regarding Jerusalem.
At the White House briefing this afternoon, Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee would not confirm the president has decided to move the embassy to Jerusalem and said she did not want to 'get ahead' of an announcement planned for Wednesday.
When asked if Trump has reached a decision, she replied, "The president is pretty solid in his thinking at this point."
In reply to a question by CBN's David Brody about how the president reached his decision, she said it was a "thoughtful, interagency process."
Palestinian Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh says relocating the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem "breaks red lines." He's threatening that any decision by the Trump administration to recognize the city as Israel's capital would be "igniting the spark of rage against the occupation."
The U.S. Consulate in Jerusalem says that since the Palestinians are calling for three days of rage, they're warning U.S. citizens to avoid traveling in certain areas of Israel:
"With widespread calls for demonstrations beginning December 6 in Jerusalem and the West Bank, U.S. government employees and their family members are not permitted until further notice to conduct personal travel in Jerusalem’s Old City and in the West Bank, to include Bethlehem and Jericho."
The Trump administration is planning an official announcement about the status of the embassy on Wednesday, including possibly recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish state.
The Palestinian Authority and Arab governments have said that moving the embassy would cause unrest in the region.
Abbas warned Trump of the "dangerous consequences such a decision would have to the peace process and to the peace, security and stability of the region and the world," Rdainah said.
Trump is also supposed to talk with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Jordan's King Abdullah today.
The news of President Trump potentially recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is an answer to the prayers of many Christians. It is also sure to cause instability in the region.
Turkey's president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has described the status of Jerusalem as a "red line" for Muslims that could lead to his country severing diplomatic relations with Israel. The European Union has also warned of "serious repercussions."
The Palestinians said they would also cut off contacts with U.S. diplomats.  And Saudi Arabia, a key U.S. ally in the region, cautioned against doing anything that would "obstruct the ongoing efforts to revive the peace process."
Israeli relations author Joel Rosenberg tells CBN News that while there's a political decision being made, there's also a need for a spiritual response.
"Never has there been a more urgent moment for the church to be praying for the peace of Jerusalem than right now. I say this as an evangelical. I say this as now an Israeli citizen and a Jerusalem resident," Rosenberg said.
"These issues are explosive. So how the church handles it, how we speak about it, how we act toward people we disagree with and how we pray: these things matter," he continued.
Rosenberg's Alliance for the Peace of Jerusalem is working to educate the next generation of Christians about the biblical importance of Israel as the Holy Land.
President Trump is expected to speak about the U.S. embassy in Israel on Wednesday.
