3 Spiritual Insights We Can Glean From 'Samson'

MARK MITTELBERG AND CASSIE LITTEL  CHARISMA NEWS
Samson was the original superhero—an ordinary man who received supernatural strength from the one true God, with the purpose of bringing hope and freedom to God's people who were being crushed underneath an oppressive government.
Pure Flix is bringing this epic story to the big screen—in a way that faithfully follows the biblical contours—in its new film SAMSON, releasing February 16 in theaters nationwide.
You've probably been exposed to the story of Samson a number of times, but we're confident that when you see this powerful movie it will come alive like never before.
Samson's story is larger than life, but it contains wisdom for us today. Embedded in his story are lessons about how we, too, can receive God's strength.
Here are three lessons from Samson about receiving God's strength in our lives today:
1. God created you for a higher purpose.
In the book of Judges (chapters 13-16) we meet Manoah and his wife, a couple who were unable to have children until God intervened in their situation. More than that, God placed a special calling on their soon-to-be-born son, Samson, even before he had been knit together in his mother's womb.
Samson was handpicked by God to liberate God's people. Samson grew up knowing God's will for his life. His parents made sure he heard the story of how he had been chosen by God before he was born. His marching orders were made clear by the angel of the Lord who had visited his parents. Moreover, God gave him supernatural strength, so Samson had everything he needed to deliver God's people, Israel, from the oppressive hands of the Philistines (see Judg. 13:5).
God chose you, too.
God chose you, and gave you a purpose before you were even born. When God created heaven and earth, he knew that one day you would find yourself right where you are at this moment. You have been created in the image of God, and you were made for a purpose. One of the most important things you can do, then, is to seek God's guidance concerning what your main mission should be, and how you can best fulfill it.
"See then that you walk carefully, not as fools, but as wise men, making the most of the time because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is" (Eph. 5:15-17).
2. You'll need God's strength to fulfill your calling.
Samson's story illustrates how God wants to enable us to fulfill the calling He's given us. Samson could only further his mission as God gave him strength. Without that strength, he could do nothing; with it, he was completely unstoppable.
The biblical message to us is that we can confidently say with Paul, "I can do all things because of Christ who strengthens me" (Phil. 4:13). Peter also reminds us that "His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who has called us by His own glory and excellence" (2 Pet. 1:3).
Our real purpose is not simply to work 9 to 5. God has a plan to use you in unique ways to help build His kingdom. Have you discovered that purpose yet? If so, have you thrown yourself wholeheartedly into it? How different would our lives, our families, our churches and our communities be if we walked with a greater sense of mission, along with steadfast trust in God's strength to help us fulfill it?
Where in your life do you need an encounter with God's strength? Maybe it is for how you parent your children or love your spouse in difficult circumstances. Maybe you need God's strength to walk through hardship. Maybe you need God's strength to step in the direction of a dream He has put on your heart. Wherever you are, His strength is there for the taking.
But be warned: When you discover the purpose God has for you, and you tap into the strength he wants to give you, there will also be people who attempt to come against you.
3. You will face opposition while fulfilling God's call.
You probably know that Samson faced all kinds of resistance as he sought to fulfill God's calling. He was not only opposed by the Philistines, but sometimes by his fellow countrymen, and even by the woman he loved, Delilah. In addition, Samson was often his own worst enemy.
In much the same way, as we seek to honor God and to obey his leadings in our lives, we're going to face opposition. Jesus said in John 15:20a, "''A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you.'" A chapter later, Jesus says, "In this world you will have tribulation. But be of good cheer. I have overcome the world" (John 16:33).
Jesus' warning is not that we might face opposition as we try to fulfill our divine callings, but that we will face it. Thankfully, He didn't leave us on our own. "Keep leaning on me," He conveyed in multiple ways, "and I'll carry you through." Or, as he put it in the Great Commission: "And remember, I am with you always, even to the end of the age" (Matt. 28:20b).
So seek after God's purpose for your life; count on his strength to help you fulfill it, rely on his wisdom and abiding presence to overcome obstacles, and with his help, you can walk in the supernatural strength of the God who helped Samson.
You can win the battles God has called you to win and leave the God-honoring legacy he wants you to leave.
"For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds, casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ" (2 Cor. 10:4-5).

The Lord recently interrupted what I was doing and came in with His beautiful presence, which led to an encounter with Him and this word came forth. I feel this is a very important word for the prophets right now.
A Season of Separating
Many prophets have been going through some intense opposition and battles – especially in the last few months. The Lord showed me that in the opposition and the battle, the enemy has been attempting to "separate" God's prophets from what He is about to release them into. Yet, in the middle of the battle, the Lord is also separating. The Lord is bringing a separation in the hearts of the prophets. The fire of God is falling upon the hearts of the prophets right now to burn away and to separate any places where "affections of the heart" have turned towards anything but Jesus.
The fire is a recalibration, a refining, a reawakening and a shaping that the Lord is doing. He's doing a deep molding of the heart, bringing about a deeper place of yieldedness to run after nothing else but Him. No more chasing after just titles, a big ministry with more favor, but He's bringing them to a deeper place of beautiful brokenness.
"The revelation and insight the Lord is going to release through these heavenly encounters to the prophets that yield will be such weighty revelation, such deep insight and foresight that when it is declared, SUDDENLY things will be established."
He's bringing His prophets to the place of deeper hunger for nothing else but Jesus which is found in the fire of God. There is a call from the Spirit of God upon the prophets right now to yield to His fire and allow Him to do what He needs to do within them, so that they can move into the new thing that He has for them. I saw the Lord breaking off competition, fear of man, entitlement, jealousy and other things, and bringing the prophets to a deeper place of purity.
A Contamination of Complacency and Compromise
I heard the Holy Spirit say, "A contamination of the wells has entered. A contamination of the wells has entered." I then had a vision and I saw the wells that many prophets were drinking out of were CONTAMINATED. Things had "entered into" the wells and were contaminating the "pure flow" of the Spirit of God through the prophets and the prophetic words He was wanting to release. I saw the wells labeled, "COMPLACENCY AND COMPROMISE". These were areas of the heart where these places of complacency and compromise had taken root.
The Holy Spirit spoke again, "I love you too much to leave you here. It is time for a WHITEWASH in My Word."
"...For He died for us, sacrificing Himself to make us holy and pure, cleansing us through the showering of the pure water of the Word of God. All that He does in us is designed to make us a mature Church for His pleasure, until we become a source of praise to Him – glorious and radiant, beautiful and holy, without fault or flaw." (Ephesians 5:26-27 The Passion Translation)
The Lord showed me prophets having deep encounters with Him (deeper than they have ever been) and they are happening through the Word of God. There is a deep circumcision of the heart and recalibration taking place out of His love. He is bringing about a deep maturing in the Word by the Spirit of God because of where He wants to lead them.
"For we have the living Word of God, which is full of energy, and it pierces more sharply than a two-edged sword. It will even penetrate to the very core of our being where soul and spirit, bone and marrow meet. It interprets and reveals the truth thoughts and secret motives of our hearts. There is not one person who can hide their thoughts from God, for nothing that we do remains a secret, and nothing created is concealed, but everything is exposed and defenseless before his eyes, to whom we must render account." (Hebrews 4:12-13 The Passion Translation)
The Holy Spirit is doing deep "heart surgeries" within the hearts of the prophets to remove anything that has seen COMPLACENCY and COMPROMISE hook into it. (Photo via Pixabay)
The new season is upon the prophets to release His heart. Their hearts must be prepared in greater ways for the increase that He is bringing. The character of the prophets is continually being sharpened. He is looking for the prophets that will yield to His fire, yield to what He is doing, so they will be able to carry that which He is releasing. What He is bringing forth and what He is about to release is SO weighty.
Restoring the Fear of God to the Prophets and then to the Church
The Lord spoke to me that there are encounters in this season upon the prophets that will RESTORE AND INCREASE THE FEAR OF GOD in their lives. I saw such deep, profound, incredible encounters with the Lord like in Isaiah 6 that will bring about:
• A deep cleansing, purifying fire to consume all that is contaminated.
• A deeper place of the restoration and increase of the fear of God in their lives.
• A greater commissioning to take the Word of the Lord out in new assignments.
ElijahList Prophetic Resources
These encounters are not something to be feared, they are something to be embraced. In these Isaiah 6 encounters, a greater awakening of the WEIGHTINESS of the call to carry the Word of the Lord is being increased. It is a beautiful privilege to "carry His Word". He wants hearts burning with His fire to CARRY, STEWARD and RELEASE those words with PURITY. He will birth a greater discernment so that prophetic words won't be released too quickly or flippantly. They will be released with right heart motives while the prophets carry, steward, mature and chew upon those words until they are to be released in the timing and way of God. Being ANCHORED in the Word of God is upon the prophets and the Body of Christ right now in such a deep way that its result will be a beautiful, divine balance of Spirit and Word.
The Lord showed me there are deep, beautiful encounters with Him, His power, His majesty and glory that have begun to take place, but are about to significantly increase and then get released into the Body of Christ. The prophets are calling it forth. They are preparing the Church to receive it in greater measure. What God is about to do is going to leave the Body of Christ speechless and in awe of who He is and His majesty as the King of glory steps in. This will produce a shift within the prophets and the Body of Christ that will awaken and restore holiness.
Heavenly Revelation Like John the Beloved
"The fire of God is falling upon the hearts of the prophets right now to burn away and to separate any places where "affections of the heart" have turned towards anything but Jesus."
The Lord showed me that as the prophets YIELD to all that God is doing in this season, He will lead them into a season of encounters SO rich and SO heavenly, that they will be likened to the heavenly revelation and encounters the Apostle John experienced in the book of Revelation.
John the Beloved's revelation and experiences were unparalleled in terms of the unique assignment God had for him. That said, even though the details of John's encounter and the details that were revealed to him were unique to John, I do believe that we can experience the same types of encounters. I mean this in terms of the Spirit speaking to us, taking us up into His realm, and giving us insight on what He is doing! And of course, all of this will be harmonious with what is presented in the canon of Scripture.
The Lord showed me that only those who YIELD, only those who SURRENDER, only those who SEEK will be ushered into this season to encounter His heart. Only those who yield will get to see in the heavenly realms and to prophesy what is to come. What He is going to release and entrust to the prophets in this season requires a deep yieldedness, a deeper brokenness and dependence upon Him. They must be able to release what He is showing them without taking glory for themselves or any contamination, but live in a place of deep intimacy and purity. They must be living first and foremost in His heart with no agenda but to know Him.
The prophets are going to experience in greater measure encounters like John had in Revelation 4:1:
"Then suddenly, after I wrote down these messages, I saw a heavenly portal open before me, and the trumpet-voice I heard speaking with me at the beginning broke the silence and said 'Ascend into this realm! I want to reveal to you what must happen after this.'" (The Passion Translation)

The revelation and insight the Lord is going to release through these heavenly encounters to the prophets that yield will be such weighty revelation, such deep insight and foresight, that when it is declared SUDDENLY things will be established. We will see greater signs and wonders accompanying the Word of the Lord as a result. The natural realm, in greater ways, will confirm the Word of the Lord. There will be sudden transformations and shifts on many occurrences in the nations and the world, as the prophetic decree of the prophet goes forth. (Photo via Unsplash)
What has begun to be released upon many prophets is about to increase. The weight of it and the privilege of what He entrusts to them will leave them in awe of who He is and a weighty fear of God to steward it well.
Wave of Repentance
A great wave of repentance is taking place right now and will increase as the fear of God is encountered again by many prophets. Many will be on their faces before Him, repenting for any ways the prophetic words have not been stewarded well. If there has been any compromise, any complacency, they will repent. Because of this wave of repentance, He is embracing His prophets and releasing a beautiful, fresh awakening and privilege to move in the office He has assigned to them.
Many tears will flow in this season from the prophets as they are broken in the most beautiful way by the revelation of the privilege it is to carry His Word. The question is: Will you yield? (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

Joel C. Rosenberg's Blog: Former CIA Director and New York Times best-selling writers praise THE KREMLIN CONSPIRACY, a new political thriller about a Russian Czar...

New post on Joel C. Rosenberg's Blog

Former CIA Director and New York Times best-selling writers praise THE KREMLIN CONSPIRACY, a new political thriller about a Russian Czar plotting to attack the U.S. & the NATO alliance. (Novel set for release on March 6th.)

by joelcrosenberg
As the countdown to the March 6th launch approaches, some early endorsements of The Kremlin Conspiracy are in, and they're encouraging.
“Joel Rosenberg has an uncanny talent for focusing his story-telling on real world hot spots just as they are heating up. He has done it again in The Kremlin Conspiracy. Russia is back in the headlines above the fold as a macro-mischief maker and Joel’s new thriller presents a worst case scenario that must never come to pass. All Americans – especially the President, Members of Congress and our national security team – should be mindful of the threat an out-of-control Moscow poses to peace and freedom.” – Porter Goss, former director of the Central Intelligence Agency
“Marcus Ryker rocks! Breakneck action, political brinksmanship, authentic scenarios, and sharply defined characters make Joel C. Rosenberg’s Kremlin Conspiracy a full throttle and frightening ride through tomorrow’s headlines.” – U.S. Army Brigadier General (retired) A. J. Tata, national bestselling author of Direct Fire
“Joel C. Rosenberg writes taut, intelligent thrillers that are as timely as they are well-written. Pairing a fast-paced plot with an impressive understanding of the inner workings in the corridors of power of the Russian government, The Kremlin Conspiracy is a stellar novel of riveting action and political intrigue.” – Mark Greaney, #1 New York Timesbestselling author of Agent in Place
The Kremlin Conspiracy is my first Joel C. Rosenberg novel, and I am absolutely blown away by how good this guy is. The story moves at a blistering pace, it’s crackling with tension, and you won’t put it down until you reach the end. Guaranteed. Simply masterful.” – Sean Parnell, New York Times bestselling author of Outlaw Platoon
What is THE KREMLIN CONSPIRACY all about?
SEPTEMBER 1999: A series of apartment bombings in Moscow shock the world. The Russian government immediately blames Chechen terrorists, and Oleg Kraskin―a sharp young lawyer in love with the president’s daughter―has no reason to doubt it. Yet when he joins the First Family of Russia, and the president’s personal staff, he has no idea how radically the bombings will one day alter the course of world events. Or what role he himself will play.
SEPTEMBER 2001: Just after the Twin Towers and the Pentagon are attacked, Marcus Ryker enlists in the Marines and is sent to Afghanistan to defend his country. In time, he joins the United States Secret Service and works his way up to the elite Presidential Protection Detail. It’s his dream job, until a tragic accident causes him to rethink his priorities.
Neither Marcus nor Oleg is aware of just how much they themselves will change history when their paths cross.
Russia’s president is a rising czar determined to restore his country to her former greatness―and he will stop at nothing to do so. Even risk nuclear war.
Now Marcus has to make the most important decision of his life. Would it ever be right to assassinate a single leader if it could prevent a genocide? If it is, then everything he’s learned to protect our president, he’ll need to take out theirs.

JEWISH BELIEVERS OVERCOME

"We are Caren and Klaas, and are blessed with one daughter and two sons. As longtime believers in Messiah Yeshua, we feel called to living in the Promised Land; Caren made aliya with her parents over twenty years ago and Klaas more than eleven years ago. We met while Klaas was visiting Israel through Athletes in Action from the Netherlands.

"When our eldest, Netaley, was ten months old, a huge brain tumor was discovered, which was removed a few days later during emergency surgery. God was with us every step of the way. Prof. Constantini, one of the top surgeons in this field worldwide, was available and willing to perform the operation. Netaley barely survived due to massive loss of blood and Prof. Constantini indicated afterwards this was one of the most difficult surgeries he had ever performed. We were told later that only he could have pulled it off.

"Due to complications, Netaley lost control over the right side of her body a few days after the surgery. Since then, she has received lots of physiotherapy to help her regain control over her right side. She has had many other treatments, including chemotherapy...

Is South Africa's Drought a Spiritual Result of Genesis 12:3? - JONATHAN FELDSTEIN CHARISMA NEWS

(Unsplash/Dan Gold)
We live in a very modern world so much so that the mere ability to read this article is the result of a sophisticated electric grid, an internet that's turned the world into a virtual community and any number of devices on which this can be read. Innovation and technology has abounded more in the past generation than perhaps any before. Nevertheless, there are things we cannot control or innovate, such as the elements. Whether the destruction of a hurricane or tornado or the need for rain to quench a parched land and its people, these acts of nature are not only not in our direct control, but many of us turn to faith and God for answers and protection.
In the Jewish tradition, the calendar of our lives and liturgy fluctuates greatly throughout the course of the year. Jews just celebrated Tu B'Shvat, known as the new year of the trees, during which it's customary to plant new trees and eat the fruit of mature ones. We are in the season now when following the winter rains, trees are in bloom, and shortly we will enter the season during which a special blessing is made on blossoming fruit trees. No small gift from God goes without recognition and gratitude to the Creator.
We may not be able to control the elements, but we surely invoke prayer and thanksgiving for the blessings that we do have, particularly of rain and particularly in the Land of Israel, which is largely desert and dry most of the year.
There are many other instances where the Jewish calendar and the seasons overlay our experiences. However, it's important to note that all of these experiences are based on the calendar in the land of Israel. So a Jew praying in Australia, America, Argentina, or Azerbaijan is praying based on the calendar, not where they are, but in Israel.
One of the things that is most meaningful and even emotional for me about living in Israel is our seasonal prayer for rain. Albeit that today even our desert is cultivated, and magnificent fields, hothouses and orchards abound, exporting some of the finest flowers and produce throughout the world, Israel only has one main fresh water source, the Sea of Galilee. As a result, most newspapers and television weather broadcasts provide statistics on the relative level of the Sea of Galilee, noting how many centimeters it went up following a particularly strong rain, how many meters below the designated redline we are and how many meters above the designated black line we are, after which pumping water from the Sea will become dangerous.
Consequently, we beseech God three times a day to fill the sea, our aquifers and rivers with abundant rain in its (winter) season. And in dry winters as this one has been, special national prayers are offered because we know we are unlikely to receive any rain from the early spring until the late fall.
Rain in Israel in its season is considered a national blessing, and we each have a role to play in prayer and through our actions, so that God will answer our prayers. That's why when I'm praying for rain, I find that to be especially meaningful because my individual prayers have a national consequence.
At the end of Passover in several weeks, we will cease prayers for rain because we know that it is not the rainy season, and we also know that in a society that still exists largely on agriculture, rain in the wrong season can be bad and damaging for crops. Biblically, the tradition not to pray for rain until after the Passover and Sukkot (Tabernacles) festivals, once people had returned home from pilgrimage to Jerusalem, also had an additional practical consequence.
The truth is, in modern Israel, even in years like this when Israel is suffering a drought and there's not enough natural rainfall to fill the sea, rivers and aquifers, God blesses us in another way. Statistically, Israel has been recorded as among largest wastewater recyclers in the world, using treated wastewater even for such high-water crops as cotton, which otherwise a country as arid as Israel should probably never cultivate.
Also, in the last generation, Israel has innovated with an aggressive desalination program, taking dirty salt water from the Mediterranean and making it potable. It's not the same as praying for rain, which is the product of the elements, but God has surely gifted the ingenuity to make all this possible, and make Israel among the world leaders. In so doing, God blesses Israel, and Israel blesses the nations of the world with its innovative water technologies.
I was reminded of all this in an article I read about a very severe water crisis in Cape Town, South Africa. According to reports, Cape Town is down to a precious several weeks of water, and at risk of being the first major city ever to effectively run out of water. It's unthinkable that a city of 4 million would actually completely run out of water. But what is unthinkable there today is possible tomorrow.
In reading about the water crisis there, I noted that the date by which they will run out of water, "Day Zero," corresponds closely with the date that Jews around the world will stop praying for rain. Albeit that this date on which we stop praying for rain is about the welfare of the land of Israel, the coincidence of dates intersecting and the possible scenario is too great not to note.
And then I realized just as much as we pray for rain as a blessing in its season, a lack of rain or a lack of water may be a curse. It didn't take too much imagination to realize that though I'm not God and can't speak on His behalf as to how He blesses and curses a person or an entire people, I do know that He does promise in Genesis 12:3 that He will bless those who bless Israel, and curse those who curse Israel.
Unfortunately, for the past decades South Africa has become one of the leading nations outside the Arab and Muslim world that actively engages in cursing Israel. This is seen in many ways including hosting of representatives of terrorist organizations as statesmen, being among the first countries to allege that Israel is an apartheid country (something South Africans know more about than anyone else, and should know better than anyone else to make such a ridiculous and outrageous claim), the reduction of Israel's diplomatic status there, and hosting a conference that essentially conceived and gave birth to the BDS movement.
I'm not God, and I don't know how He thinks, and I certainly don't know all the ways in which He acts. However there are too many coincidences in this to be just coincidences. I look at other countries that have chosen the path of cursing Israel, and I noticed that it's very hard to find one blessed by the gift of democracy, or not being overrun by unchecked and extremist wave of immigration that makes it dangerous for citizens to be able to walk freely in neighborhoods of their own towns and cities. I see economic crisis and instability in other places where cursing Israel is as common as the sunrise in the morning. And I look at all of this and wonder how is it part of God's promise and design. I wonder what will it take for people of the world who curse Israel to realize that when God makes such a promise it's serious and they need to listen and behave accordingly.
I certainly don't pray for anything bad in South Africa, and do pray for the well-being of all its citizens. But by the same way my prayers for rain in Israel have a national consequence, I do believe that they have a role and responsibility, including reverence for God through their individual prayers and actions that will trickle up to benefit, and bless, the country as a whole. They need to take personal responsibility, and prayer and blessing Israel is a good start.
Living in Israel, the presence or lack of abundant rain is something that I've learned not to take for granted. I've begun to write a book for children on how to save water because I believe that it's through our actions as well as our prayers that God will see our sincerity and answer us with blessing. I pray that as a nation, South Africa will repent from its anti-Israel positions, and pray fervently for God to bestow his blessing upon the country that's about to have one of its major cities dry out.
