Rebuilding the Ruins ✡ "All Yisrael In Their Towns" - Israel365

The Kohanim, the Leviim and some of the people, and the singers, gatekeepers, and the temple servants took up residence in their towns and all Yisrael in their towns.
Ezra 2:70 (The Israel Bible™)

Rebuilding the Ruins

In this chapter of the Book of Ezra, we learn that many of the Jewish families who returned from exile to the Land of Israel established new communities on the sites of their ruined towns and villages. As one travels across the landscape of the contemporary State of Israel, it is amazing to see this very process recurring. The communities of BeershevaKibbutz DanGivon and dozens of others were all reconstructed in the very same locations as their original, biblical namesakes. It is indeed wondrous to witness the fulfillment of Yirmiyahu's (Jeremiah's) prophecy "...children shall return to their country" (Jeremiah 31:16) and to see "all Yisrael in their towns."

Ancient Mosaic Depicts 2 Hebrew Spies Exploring Land of Canaan - UNC NEWS CHARISMA NEWS

(Jim Haberman)
Recent discoveries by a team of specialists and students at Huqoq in Israel's Galilee, led by University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill professor Jodi Magness, shed new light on the life and culture of an ancient Jewish village. The discoveries indicate villagers flourished under early fifth-century Christian rule, contradicting a widespread view that Jewish settlement in the region declined during that period. The large size and elaborate interior decoration of the Huqoq synagogue point to an unexpected level of prosperity.
"The mosaics decorating the floor of the Huqoq synagogue revolutionize our understanding of Judaism in this period," said Magness. "Ancient Jewish art is often thought to be aniconic, or lacking images. But these mosaics, colorful and filled with figured scenes, attest to a rich visual culture as well as to the dynamism and diversity of Judaism in the Late Roman and Byzantine periods."
The first mosaics in the Huqoq synagogue were discovered by Magness' team in 2012. Since then, Magness, director of the Huqoq excavations and Kenan distinguished professor of early Judaism in the department of religious studies in Carolina's College of Arts & Sciences, assisted by Shua Kisilevitz of the Israel Antiquities Authority and Tel Aviv University, have uncovered additional mosaics every summer. This year, the team's specialists and students focused their efforts on a series of mosaic panels in the north aisle. Magness said this series is part of the richest, most diverse collection of mosaics ever found in an ancient synagogue.
Along the north aisle, mosaics are divided into two rows of panels containing figures and objects with Hebrew inscriptions. One panel labeled "a pole between two" depicts a biblical scene from Numbers 13:23. The images show two spies sent by Moses to explore Canaan carrying a pole with a cluster of grapes. Another panel, referencing Isaiah 11:6, includes the inscription "a small child shall lead them." The panel shows a youth leading an animal on a rope. A fragmentary Hebrew inscription concluding with the phrase "Amen selah," meaning "Amen forever," was uncovered at the north end of the east aisle.
During this eighth dig, the team also continued to expose a rare discovery in ancient synagogues: columns covered in colorful, painted plaster still intact after nearly 1,600 years.
The mosaics have been removed from the site for conservation and the excavated areas have been backfilled. Excavations are scheduled to continue in the summer of 2019. Additional information and updates can be found at the project's website: huqoq.org.
Mosaics uncovered by this project include:
  • 2012Samson and the foxes
  • 2013: Samson carrying the gate of Gaza on his shoulders
  • 2013, 2014 and 2015: a Hebrew inscription surrounded by human figures, animals and mythological creatures including cupids; and the first non-biblical story ever found decorating an ancient synagogue—perhaps the legendary meeting between Alexander the Great and the Jewish high priest
  • 2016: Noah's Ark; the parting of the Red Sea showing Pharaoh's soldiers being swallowed by giant fish
  • 2017: a Helios-zodiac cycle; Jonah being swallowed by three successive fish; the building of the Tower of Babel

US Congress Warns Netanyahu Against Making Deal With Putin Regarding Syria - Israel Today

US Congress Warns Netanyahu Against Making Deal With Putin Regarding Syria

Thursday, July 12, 2018 |  Israel Today Staff
If Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is thinking of striking a deal with Russia regarding the future of Syria, he'd better think again, cautioned a senior US senator.
As Netanyahu was meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) tweeted, "To our friends in Israel — be very careful making agreements with Russia re Syria that affect U.S. interests. I don’t trust Russia to police Iran or anyone else in Syria. U.S. must maintain presence in Syria to ensure ISIS doesn’t come back and to counter Russia/Iran influence."
Netanyahu reportedly insisted in his first sit-down with Putin that Iranian forces in Syria be evacuated following the country's civil war. Putin replied that such a demand was unrealistic, leading some to fear that Netanyahu would agree to some kind of arrangement under which Russia promised to keep said Iranian forces in check, while allowing them to remain deployed within striking distance of Israel.
Graham seemed to concur with Putin's assessment that the Iranians can't be easily removed at this point, and instead wants to see a strong US military presence in Syria, too.
That position is shared by most US lawmakers from both sides of the aisle, many of whom are now concerned that when President Donald Trump meets with Putin early next week, he might make some kind of deal that leaves Syria in the hands of the Russians, and their Iranian allies.
In Israel, this is all being viewed as a recipe for war.

'America Is in Trouble': Franklin Graham's 'Decision' Tour
Heads to Oregon, Washington
07-11-2018
CBN News Alegra Hall
Franklin Graham, president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, thinks it’s time to bring the
country together.

Coming on the heels of news headlines highlighting the tremendous unrest in the country as well as
divisions along party lines and tragic mass shootings, Graham senses the need for America to feel
and know the love of God.

"We want to unite people from all walks of life, from every church and denomination, to pray for our
leaders, our communities and our neighbors. Only God can change people's hearts and heal our
country," says Graham.

Billy Graham - Integrated Crusades

As the head of the international Christian relief organization Samaritan's Purse, Graham has seen
tragedy and distress all over the world.

While traveling to places like Guatemala, East Africa and the Middle East, he brought the message
of hope to millions.

Now he says he wants to bring the message of hope and unity to the people right here in the USA.
According to the evangelist, "We all face crossroads in our lives—moments when we need to make
important decisions."

Graham says that important decision is whether or not to walk with Christ.

He wants to offer everyday people “the opportunity to make a spiritual decision that can impact
their lives not only now, but for eternity."

Graham, 65, is taking his message of God’s love throughout Oregon and Washington state this summer.

The national tour, known as Decision America, hit all 50 state capitals in 2016 and aims to reach as
many souls through the ministry or prayer as well as worship with Christian artist Jeremy Camp.

The Grammy-nominated Camp will lead the crowds in worship each night at this free event.

His hope is that people in the Evergreen State will sense the presence of God and embrace His love.

According to his website, Graham thinks he has the key to restoring America.

“The most critical thing you can do is pray, pray, pray. The intercession of God’s people is crucial if
we are to see a return to the biblical faith of our fathers, the faith that has guided and sustained our
country for so long,” said Graham.
