Global Banking Stocks Are Crashing Hard – Just Like They Did In 2008

Global stocks are falling precipitously once again, and banking stocks are leading the way.  If this reminds you of 2008, it should, because that is precisely what we witnessed back then.  Banking stocks collapsed as fear gripped the marketplace, and ultimately many large global banks had to be bailed out either directly or indirectly by their national governments as they failed one after another.

The health of the banking system is absolutely paramount, because the flow of money is our economic lifeblood.  When the flow of money tightens up during a credit crunch, the consequences can be rapid and dramatic just like we witnessed in 2008.

So let’s keep a very close eye on banking stocks.  Global systemically important bank stocks surged in the aftermath of Trump’s victory in 2016, but now they are absolutely plunging.  They are now down a whopping 27 percent from the peak, and that puts them solidly in bear market territory.

U.S. banking stocks are not officially in bear market territory yet, but they are getting close.  At this point, they are now down 17 percent from the peak…

Monday early afternoon, the US KBW Bank index, which tracks large US banks and serves as a benchmark for the banking sector, is down 2.5% at the moment. It has dropped 17% from its post-Financial Crisis high on January 29.

Of course European banking stocks are doing much worse.  Right now they are down 27 percent from the peak and 23 percent from a year ago.  The following comes from Wolf Richter…

But unlike their American brethren, the European banks have remained stuck in the miserable Financial Crisis mire – a financial crisis that in Europe was followed by the Euro Debt Crisis. The Stoxx 600 bank index, which covers major European banks, including our hero Deutsche Bank, has plunged 27% since February 29, 2018, and is down 23% from a year ago

I wish that we didn’t have a global economic system that was so dependent on the “too big to fail” banks, but we do.

If they aren’t healthy, nobody is going to be healthy for long, and it is starting to look and feel a whole lot like 2008.

But unlike 2008, we also have a global trade war to contend with.  The CEO of one yacht company recently told USA Today that tariffs have had a “catastrophic” effect on his company…

Tariffs imposed on goods by the European Union, and the Chinese and American governments on boats, cribs, bourbon, and more have put Wisconsin businesses between a rock and a hard place. The tariffs imposed are already damaging a bloated bubble economy and the hardships are just beginning.

“It’s been catastrophic,” said Rob Parmentier, who is the president and CEO of Marquis-Larson Boat Group, which builds Carver yachts in Pulaski, Wisconsin. According to USA Today, the first “hand grenade,” as Parmentier described it, tossed during the trade wars at him specifically, was a 25 percent tariff the European Union placed this year on boats built in the United States, along with scores of other products including Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

I have previously warned my readers that the damage caused by this trade war would get progressively worse the longer that it lasts.

Many companies have been trying to ride it out, but eventually the money runs out and layoffs start happening…

“We’ve had a lot of order cancellations. Canada and Europe have essentially stopped buying boats,” Parmentier said according to USA Today. “We’ve been absorbing some of the additional costs … hoping the tariffs will go away. But we can only do that for so long,” he said. The next step is layoffs.

Anyone that thought that this trade war would not have very serious consequences was just fooling themselves.  According to one source, tariffs paid by U.S. businesses are up 45 percent compared to a year ago…

“For the most recent months available, August 2018, the amount of tariffs paid increased by $1.4 billion — or 45% — as compared to tariffs paid in August 2017. Tariff costs in Michigan tripled to $178 million and more than doubled in multiple states — to $424 million in Texas, $193 million in Illinois, $50 million in Alabama, $29 million in Oklahoma, $23 million in Louisana, and $7.3 million in West Virginia.
These costs strain businesses of all sizes but are particularly painful for small business, manufacturers, and consumers who bear the burden of tariff increases in the form of higher prices,” via the data compiled by The Trade Partnership and released by Tariffs Hurt the Heartland.

And it doesn’t look like this trade war is going to end any time soon.  In fact, one key Chinese official recently made it very clear that China is not afraid of a long trade war…

On Monday in Beijing, Zhang Qingli, a leading member of a Chinese committee tasked with forging alliances with other nations, told a small group of U.S. business leaders, lobbyists and public relations executives that China refuses to be intimidated by an ongoing trade war with the Trump administration.
“China never wants a trade war with anybody, not to mention the U.S., who has been a long term strategic partner, but we also do not fear such a war,” Zhang said through a translator, according to a meeting attendee who declined to be named.

We are entering a time when the economy was likely to slow down anyway, but if stocks continue to crash and global banking woes escalate, that is going to spread fear and panic like wildfire.

And when there is fear and panic in the air, lending tends to really tighten up, and a major credit crunch is just about the last thing that we need right now.

It’s been a really bad October for global markets so far, and more trouble is brewing.  Hold on to your hats, because it looks like it is going to be a bumpy ride ahead.

Is George Soros the Antichrist? Some people seem to think so.

Rudy Giuliani recently retweeted a post that read, "Follow the money. I think Soros is the anti-Christ! He must go! Freeze his assets & I bet the protests will stop."

I was surprised to see how much media attention this tweet received. While I'm sure many, including Giuliani, didn't take this Antichrist accusation seriously, others see a strong spiritual angle to Soros' actions.

I personally don't think Soros is the Antichrist. But it's obvious he operates in the spirit of the Antichrist that the apostle John warned us about in 1 John 4:3—"And every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and is already in the world."

The fact is that Soros funds many of the attacks on conservative, biblical values. The media tries to make it seem as though the many liberal protests we're seeing nowadays are spontaneous. But as I document in my book Trump Aftershock, there's strong reason to believe that many of these protesters are paid to come and stir up trouble.

Rich socialists like Soros know that if they can manage to disrupt society with chaos, good and decent people will cave into liberal demands and give way to the leftist agenda.

Even though these things have been happening for quite some time, I believe we are in a position in America that we've never been in before. The attacks against Christian values seem to have never been stronger than they are today. But I also believe the pendulum is about to swing the other way—and part of that started with Donald Trump's election.

I document this phenomenon in Trump Aftershock, which comes out Nov. 6. Since Trump was elected in 2016, he's accomplished several exciting things, including boosting the economy, strengthening international diplomacy, moving the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and even forcing Turkey to free wrongfully imprisoned pastor Andrew Brunson.

I also document the intense attacks—fueled by billionaire radicals—coming from the left since Trump has been in office. Democrats were even so bold as to say they would oppose anyone Trump nominated to replace former Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy.

But the war against Christian values isn't limited to those on the far left, such as FPL and Faith in Action. On the CBS Sunday-morning program Face the Nation, Washington Postcolumnist Michael Gerson, a liberal evangelical, was asked to comment on the evangelical leaders who supported the president during the Stormy Daniels scandal. The former speechwriter for President George W. Bush replied, "Well, they are acting like, you know, slimy political operatives, not moral leaders. They are essentially saying, in order to get benefits for themselves, in a certain way—they talk about religious liberty and other issues—but to get benefits for themselves, they are willing to wink at Stormy Daniels and wink at misogyny and wink at nativism."

My friend Tony Perkins, the president of the Family Research Council, who was accused of moral duplicity by Gerson in an article for The Atlantic, responded by saying his decision to support Donald Trump was due to the dramatic contrast between the two candidates and the good that Trump's conservative agenda would do. "Religious freedom is being restored," he said, "pro-life policies being advanced— the infrastructure of leftist government being dismantled. That's why Gerson and the left are so enraged." Dr. Robert Jeffress, pastor of Dallas' First Baptist Church and an adviser to the president, agreed: "We are supporting this president because of his policies."

Meanwhile, Dr. Richard Land, president of Southern Evangelical Seminary, said evangelicals "feel culturally and politically besieged" and "feel like their government has been weaponized against them." During a radio interview, Land said, "In a fallen sinful world, sometimes we are forced to make a choice between the lesser evil and the greater evil. And if we do not choose to help the lesser evil triumph over the greater evil, we become morally responsible for the greater evil prevailing."

He added, "However immoral you may think Donald Trump is, Mrs. Clinton is more immoral." He added that liberal evangelicals such as Mike Gerson have missed the point.

I could not agree more, and I've described elsewhere that I've made that point not only in God and Donald Trump but in various media interviews and in Trump Aftershock as well.

The Lord also showed me that promotions are going to come to a head for some people. For others, the restoration that you've been plowing toward for years, and thought it seemed hopeless, is coming to a head. There will also be families that are going to see prodigals reach out as they are coming closer to returning home.

"Things Are Coming to a Head"

On October 1, the Lord spoke to me clearly: "Things that need to come to a head are going to come to a head this month."

According to Cambridge Dictionary, "coming to a head" means to reach a point where strong action has to be taken. It means something has reached a critical or crucial stage or a point of intensity that forces you to deal with it. Tension has built-up in the situation to a boiling point.

Put another way, we're in a Kairos moment. Kairos comes from the Greek word kara, which means "come to a head." Decisive action is demanded. Kairos also means "opportune time, fitting time or season." It's an appointed time. We're in that appointed time this month. We must have another look and take God-ordained steps to execute His will and receive His blessings.

Harvests Coming to a Head

For some, the Lord showed me a harvest needs to come to a head. Many have been sowing and sowing and sowing, and the enemy has come repeatedly to steal, kill and destroy your harvest before you have a chance to reap it. If that's' you, stand like Shammah in this season and fight:

"After him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. The Philistines had gathered into a troop, where the plot of the field was full of lentils, and the people fled before the Philistines. He took his stand in the midst of the plot of land, defended it, and defeated the Philistines. The Lord brought about a great victory." (2 Samuel 23:11-12)

The Lord also showed me that promotions are going to come to a head for some people. Enemy Plots Coming to a Head

Be encouraged also to know that some of you will uncover enemy plots, which you have not previously discerned, coming to a head. You haven't known what is wrong. You don't know why your life has been miserable. You didn't know there was an enemy inside your camp, working against the promises of God in your life. You didn't see the enemy's well-orchestrated plot against you. Hold on tight. It's going to come to a head.

You are going to see and defeat the enemy you couldn't see before now. You're about to catch the thief and he has to repay seven times. Rejoice in Proverbs 6:31, "But if he is found, he will restore sevenfold; he will give all the substance of his house." For better or worse, things are coming to a head in October so you can see things for what they really are. Judas will be exposed. Absalom will be exposed. Jezebel will be exposed. Greed will be exposed. Jealousy will be exposed. Manipulation and compromise will be exposed.
Now is not the time to put off the hard discussions. Now is not the time to shrink back from the battle. Rather, now is the time to seek the wisdom of God to make what may seem like impossible decisions. Now is the time to seek insights from Heaven into how to move forward in a kairos moment.
