David Barton: Only 2.8% of American Pastors Are Willing to Preach These Biblical Truths

History is not taught in schools as it once was. And when schools do teach history, it's often with a very secular spin. But David Barton, a well-respected Christian historian, has deep insight into the United States' Christian founding that every American needs to know. He says only 2.8% of American pastors are willing to preach biblical truth on political topics, and if God's people won't step up, the trend will only get worse.

I recently interviewed Barton on my "Strang Report" podcast, where he exposes the truth behind America's uniquely Christian founding—and why that matters for us today. Bible-believing colonists once devoted this nation to scriptural principles, but now, many American Christians don't even believe the Bible is true. Click here to listen to that episode, or click on the podcast icon in this article.

"When you look at where we are now, my question is not 'Where has God gone?' But it's 'Where are His people?'" Barton tells me. "I say that for several different reasons. I work closely with George Barna. We just put three massive polls in the field on Christian values and beliefs, and we know that ... 72% of churches and senior pastors do not agree with the Bible and do not agree with its teachings."

The Barna Group conducted that survey among 384,000 churches and senior pastors. That leaves 28% who actually believe the Bible is true and agree with its teachings. Among those 28%, Barton says, 97% say the Bible speaks directly to hot-button political topics today. But those same people said they refused to preach about those issues because they were political.

"That puts us at 2.8% of pastors addressing what the Bible addresses if it's also in the news," Barton says. "Now that's a problem. We also have a problem when only 14% of Christians read the Bible every day. ... And only 9% of Christians have a biblical worldview. ... So we're looking at a nation that doesn't think biblically."

This modern trend of unbiblical thinking stands in stark contrast to ... read more

"I Am Dismantling in Order to Re-mantle"
Sylvia Neusch, Round Rock, Texas

Recently I heard the Lord say, "I am dismantling in order to re-mantle." Many in the Body of Christ have experienced a season of great shift and transition. For some, the dismantling of existing structures, patterns, ministries, and systems has been unnerving. But, God is using the uncertainty and change to turn hearts to Him as our "true north." It is His presence alone that we follow when all is shaking around us. We must resist the temptation to default back to what feels comfortable and choose to trust instead, following our Faithful One into this new era.
Using Discomfort to Shift Directions

God will often use our discomfort, frustration or even the pain of broken relationships to cause us to shift or move in a new or different direction. We can see this principle in the life of Elijah. Elijah had experienced the "high" of his ministry confronting the prophets of Baal on Mt. Carmel. The next thing we know he is at his lowest point, fleeing Jezebel and praying that he would die (1 Kings 19:4).

It was this intense warfare and frustration that caused Elijah to run for Horeb. Horeb was known to be a place of encounters with God and it would remain true for Elijah.

"The Lord said, 'Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by....'" (1 Kings 19:11)

It was in this place that the Lord gave him specific instructions and new direction for the future. Not only would he soon be anointing two new kings, but he was to anoint Elisha to succeed him as prophet. After receiving these clear instructions from God, Elijah found Elisha plowing with twelve yoke of oxen and placed his mantle on Elisha. The discomfort of the former season led Elijah to the place of seeking God for his next steps. God had to dismantle some things in order to re-mantle him for the next phase of his ministry. Elijah would now become a mentor for Elisha.
Making a Clean Break

Elisha's life was being dismantled to a great degree, too, as he left family and farm behind and was re-mantled by the LORD to succeed Elijah. His actions were significant as he slaughtered the oxen, burned the plowing equipment to cook the meat, and fed the people before he left. He kissed his father and mother goodbye and then no trace of his former life was left to hinder him from forward motion into the call of God on his life.

God has been highlighting this to me that our heart position needs to be that of a willingness to make a clean break with the past season instead of a "one foot in and one foot out" mentality. I feel God is saying to let go of the past in order to step fully into the new. If our fingers are still clutching the old, how can we grab hold of the new? God has a forward motion for many in this season, and a key component to laying hold of that will be leaving the past behind.

A passage that has been heralded in this season by many prophetic voices is Isaiah 43: 18-19: "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland."

We have been instructed to forget the former things and warned not to dwell on the past. Our ability to perceive the new will be greatly affected by our willingness to forget the former things and leave the past behind. Isaiah's words encourage us to expect the unexpected. A massive paradigm shift is taking place and a "business as usual" mindset will not position us to fully ride the wave of His glory in this hour.

I hear the Lord saying, "Enlarge the place of your tent. Stretch your tent curtains wide; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes (Isaiah 54:2). I am enlarging your container and capacity for this next season. I am increasing your impact, effectiveness, and fruitfulness. I am dismantling in order to re-mantle you for the greater things."

"Feeling Uncomfortable? It's Time to Go up a Size!"
Lauren Tharp, Salem, OR

From the Desk of Steve Shultz:

Steve Shultz
I love, love, LOVE this new generation coming up.

And frankly, I'm weary and sick and tired of them being "dissed" for being millennials or close to millennials.

Here is an amazing but more importantly a "HELPFUL" word by Lauren, one of our editors right here at THE ELIJAH LIST.

Please do NOT make the mistake of saying or thinking she is too young to "get it" as it relates to walking with the Lord.

Lauren GETS IT and I want YOU to GET IT TOO!

I would just say, "listen and learn" with this word. It's SPOT ON!

Enjoy! (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

"Feeling Uncomfortable? It's Time to Go up a Size!"

If the Shoe Doesn't Fit...
I've been sensing for a while now that God is swiftly expanding and widening His reach through the Church; the old season we have been in is like an old pair of shoes that doesn't fit anymore and it's time to go up a size!

I believe this word is for many in the Church right now...for the ones who have been feeling a pressure or even a discomfort with their jobs, ministries or relationships. The ones who feel overwhelmed but they don't know why, or maybe they do! The ones who feel an intensity or frustration with many changes in their lives OR from not seeing enough change. God wants to help clear the cob webs and give you hope! We are in a new area and an unfamiliar season, but our Father is our faithful navigator, our north star.

God's Dream Language is Our Treasure Hunt

Over the last year I've been learning to pay attention and write down the messages God gives through my dreams, taking the time to seek out the hidden gems He wants to reveal. What at first was months of frustration, as each new dream lead to more questions and no answers, soon turned to great breakthrough! In recording my dreams, pursuing God for answers, He has been showing Himself faithful to reveal some pretty cool revelations.

The more I record my dreams and hand them to God, the more I start to recall my dreams. It's like turning up the volume so you can hear the music that you once thought was only silence! If you haven't done this before, I encourage you to try it out sometime. I'm telling you, God is faithful. He WANTS to speak to you while you're awake AND while you're asleep.

I've also come to realize that when God repeats dreams in a series, once, twice, or even three times, He's really trying to get our attention! Over the past few months, I've experienced multiple dreams all with the same theme; each includes me either being given or issued a new set of clothes or shoes, as well as a new stage or environment to perform in. I want to share with you one of the latest of these dreams as I believe God has a word of affection and encouragement for both me and you.

A New Garment and a New Stage

"And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints." (Revelation 19:7-8)

In my dream, I found myself on a theater stage yet again, before a large audience, performing and creating new things that I wasn't used to or comfortable with. Before I went up for my performance I had been issued new costumes (or garments) to put on. I was handed a small size and a larger size. First I tried on the small size, which I assumed would fit as it was my normal go to, but to my surprise, it didn't. I realized I would have to put on the larger one in order to be ready for the stage. The dream literally ended with me thinking to myself, "I guess I'll have to go up a size!"

When waking from my dream I had an overwhelming sense that the Lord was using this dream to parallel with the new place He has me in, and not just me, but many in the Body of Christ. When I was on the stage performing and creating new dances, I remember feeling so unsure of myself, so uncomfortable because this was entirely new to me, but I was hand picked to star on the stage, despite my inexperience.

I knew I had to rely COMPLETELY on God for navigation because EVERYTHING was new. He had given me brand new and larger garments (larger mantel), a new stage (platform/influence) with a larger audience (the world). He gave me a fresh, creative dance (new creativity/ideas). And My old shirt size wouldn't fit anymore (the old way of doing things isn't working anymore).

As followers of Christ, God has hand picked us to be stars in His show! He wants to expand our audience; He is giving us a new mantel and a new stage and He will teach us how to perform on it with fresh creativity and excellence. We may still be wearing our old garments, our smaller garments, because that's what always used to fit us before—what we think should fit with ease but doesn't anymore. It worked for us then but now it doesn't. It's time to put on your new garment! It's time to dream BIGGER with Him.

Take hope in the midst of your pressure, your Father has not forgotten you. On the contrary, He's saying, "I'm here. Trust in Me. Rely on Me. Let Me prove Myself faithful. Let Me navigate these uncharted waters. Put on the new garment I made just for You and follow Me."

Finally, I want to leave you with this: Across America and the globe, we can see that God has and is exposing and dismantling high corruption in all the mountains of society. We see it in Hollywood, in the media, in the government, etc. I believe He's swiftly severing off deep-rooted darkness from the very peaks of the mountaintops, and just as swiftly making room for His Bride to rule in its place.

"For dominion belongs to the LORD and He rules over the nations." (Psalm 22:28)

God bless you and give you overwhelming joy and hope,

‘The Beating Heart of Jerusalem’: Newly Discovered Pilgrimage Road Gives Glimpse into Life During Jesus’ Time - CBN News Julie Stahl

‘The Beating Heart of Jerusalem’: Newly Discovered Pilgrimage Road Gives Glimpse into Life During Jesus’ Time
07-09-2019
CBN News Julie Stahl
In ancient Israel, the Jewish people obeyed the biblical commandment to travel to Jerusalem three times a year for a temple sacrifice – at Passover, Shavuot  (Pentecost), and Succoth (Feast of Tabernacles) Now for the first time in 2,000 years, the road they walked is being uncovered for all to see.
“The places and events and peoples that make Jerusalem, Jerusalem for Christians, for Jews, it all happened here. It happened here in the City of David,” said Zeev Orenstein, Director of International Affairs at the City of David Foundation
Photo Courtesy: Shalom Kweller, City of David Archives
“This is where the beating heart of Jerusalem is.  We’re talking about the Pool of Siloam, we’re talking about Mt. Moriah, the Temple Mount. We’re talking about the City of David.  The Pilgrimage Road links them all together,” Orenstein told CBN News.
For Jews in ancient days, their pilgrimage began at the Pool of Siloam, a giant mikveh, or ritual bath.  The size of two Olympic swimming pools, they would purify themselves here before going up to the Temple to offer their sacrifices.
“The historian Josephus says, 2,000 years ago, on the pilgrimage festivals, there would have been more than 2 million people going up on pilgrimage. That’s a lot of people that need to bathe,” Orenstein explained.
The pool is also where Jesus healed the blind man as recounted in the book of John.  Its location was hidden by a road until fifteen years ago when a sewage leak led to excavations, the discovery of the pool and much more.
“The archaeologists when they find the pool of Siloam, they understand that that’s the pool and they know where the Temple stood on the Temple Mount 2,000 years ago, the same Temple Mount as today,” Orenstein said.
Orenstein said then archaeologists wondered how the pilgrims traveled from the pool to the Temple Mount.
“So the archaeologists widen the excavation,” he explained and that is now what they’re calling the ancient Pilgrimage Road.
The stones are that Jesus would have walked on, on his way up to the Temple.  The significance of the excavation of the Pilgrimage Road is that for the first time in 2,000 years, visitors will be able to walk all the way from the Pool of Siloam up to the Western Wall.
“The word in the Bible, the Hebrew word is Aliyah b’regel, oleh regel.  Now what we understand that to mean is that it’s a spiritual ascent, going up to Jerusalem, going up to the Temple. It’s a very holy place,” Orenstein explained.  “But, when you’re in the place where the Bible happened, the words of the Bible come to life,” he said pointing out that the road actually goes uphill.
And it was more than that.
“This would have been a Times Square.  We would have had on both sides of the road, keep in mind the road is about three, four or five times wider than what we see.  You would have had shops, stalls along both sides of the road. This is the center of Jerusalem from a spiritual perspective, from a communal perspective, also from a commerce perspective,” he said.
According to the Israel Antiquities Authority, the road took ten years to build from 20-30 AD and was constructed by the Roman Governor Pontius Pilate.
“Now, one of the major issues of Jerusalem is that it’s a living city. All the archaeological layers are built on top of one another and the modern quarters and everything (is) built on top of the archaeological layers,” said IAA Excavation Manager Ari Levy.
Although the ancient road was out in the open 2,000 years ago, it’s currently underground, beneath the Jerusalem Arab neighborhood of Silwan.  So walking on the road is like being in a tunnel.  Levy says uncovering the road is a major engineering feat.
“We have a modern neighborhood just above our heads and we don’t want it to collapse,” Levy told CBN News.  “After each meter that we take out, each meter of soil, we (put in) an arch-like construction.  This supports the entire weight of what we have above us.”
Along the route, you can see many places where the road remains intact and others where it’s destroyed given its violent history.
“We know that the Romans they destroyed Jerusalem and if you were to find everything intact it wouldn’t seem like much of a destruction,” Orenstein said.
Among the discovered treasures are small coins minted during the Great (Jewish) Revolt before the Romans destroyed the Temple and Jerusalem in 70 AD.
Scholars often wonder why the Jews made worthless coins instead of weapons. Orenstein has an answer.
“The Jews of Jerusalem understood that the Romans were likely going to destroy the city. But they also believed that one day in the future, descendants would return and find these coins and they would know what their ancestors lived and died for – for a free Jerusalem.
“And here we are nearly 2,000 years later, standing along the very same Pilgrimage Road here in the City of David in Jerusalem – the capital of the Jewish State of Israel,” he said.
Half of the Pilgrimage Road will open soon to the public and within a few years, all the way from the Pool of Siloam to the Western Wall.   That will give visitors a firsthand experience of what it was like to worship God in the time of Jesus.

Dr. Peter Wyns brings an inspiring message to the church to be the "Family of God". "Remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world.

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ." Eph. 2:12-13 (NIV)
