What Spirit-Filled Christians Need to Know About Jezebel's War on America

There's no question a battle is going on for the soul of our nation. If you are a believer, you can see it in the news but also in the culture—sometimes even in our own families.

I talk about this spiritual struggle in the cover story I wrote for Charisma's November issue called "The Spiritual Struggle for the Soul of America." (If you don't already subscribe to Charismaclick here to buy that particular issue.)

The information I share in my article comes largely from my latest book, Trump Aftershock, which released earlier this month. During my research for the book, I discovered several interesting insights that I wanted to share with all of you who read my newsletter. The following is an excerpt from my article in Charisma:

Pundits would say the clash is between globalism and nationalism or between capitalism and socialism. As a Christian, I know this struggle is not just left versus right or Democrats versus Republicans. I believe it's between light and darkness, between good and evil. There's a spiritual nature to this conflict, which we call "spiritual warfare." This isn't just between people. In fact, the Bible says, "We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places" (Eph. 6:12, KJV). And because it's spiritual in nature, it's up to those of us who understand spiritual things to stand against the darkness and pray for God to heal our land.

What's really going on is unseen and unknown to most in our country—even to some believers whose spiritual eyes are not open or who choose to ignore this spiritual warfare.

Yet like the sons of Issachar, who discerned the times (see 1 Chron. 12:32), God is calling those who are spiritual to do battle for our nation. And God is raising up ... read more

How Holy Spirit Can Bring You Into Emotional Health Right Now - RACHEL SAMMONS CHARISMA NEWS

How Holy Spirit Can Bring You Into Emotional Health Right Now

RACHEL SAMMONS  CHARISMA NEWS
"Without body, parts or passions."
That's how the Westminster Confession of Faith describes God. Consequently, Christianity has warped this to mean that God is a distant, stone-cold deity without emotions or feeling. Many believe that when the Bible describes God's anger, it is simply communicating the gravity of His justice. Or that His compassion for His children as evidenced in Scripture only speaks to a general love, the kind that a Creator would have for everything in His Creation whether it be people or blades of grass. This passionless, impersonal God has, sadly, extended to the person of Jesus. As a result, very little has been written on Jesus' emotional life.
But in his latest book Spirit-Filled Jesus: Live By His Power, Mark Driscoll takes a chapter to address how Jesus had emotions, maintained perfect emotional health and how we can learn from His example.
"Everyone who is a believer has the potential for improved emotional health that increasingly manifests the character of Jesus Christ. How? By the power of the Holy Spirit," Driscoll says.

As he points out, Jesus had a lot of reasons to be an emotional mess. The public gossiped about Him and His cousin, John the Baptist:
"For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.' The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Here is a gluttonous man, a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners'" (Matt. 11:18-19).
"That's a rough public relations nightmare for a homeless single guy trying to launch a brand-new ministry from scratch," Driscoll says.
He writes on Jesus's exhausting ministry. People swarmed Jesus at all hours, asking questions and seeking miracles. They wanted Him to cast out demons, raise people from the dead, give sight to the blind and heal all sorts of infirmities.
While taking a nap, Jesus was woken up by his followers who feared the storm would capsize their boat. After calming the sea, Jesus said, "Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?" (Mark 4:40).
His disciples were a source of exasperation. Judas stole money from the ministry and was bribed to hand Jesus over to the people who intended to crucify Him. Thomas doubted Jesus and Peter denied that he knew Him. James and John asked to rule with Jesus in heaven which was not received well: "You do not know what you are asking" (Mark 10:38b).
Whatever relationships or circumstances we have grappled with, Jesus has also endured. He dealt with enemies and difficult coworkers. He felt so fatigued that he could sleep through a violent storm in a boat. But more importantly, Jesus responded with displays of emotion that we experience. He was angry and called people sons of the devil, and He overturned tables in the temple. He was sad—the shortest verse in many Bible translations is "Jesus wept" (John 11:35). He experienced amazement when He witnessed the faith of the centurion, and many times Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit (Luke 10:21).
From the Bible, we can conclude that Jesus, like His Father, was not stoic. We can also infer from Jesus' example that responding emotionally to something is not necessarily wrong. Rather, it's how we manage our responses that indicates our emotional health.
Driscoll writes on how the source of Jesus's power over His emotions is the Holy Spirit. In fact, this is the key to perfect emotional health. Because of this, Jesus's externalizing of emotion, however harsh or abrupt it seemed, aimed to cause good change, not chaos or drama. Even when Jesus flipped over the tables at the temple and caused a scene, it was to put an end to His house of prayer being used as "a den of thieves" (Matt. 21:13b).
Driscoll distinguishes how having a Spirit-filled emotional life also means inviting the Holy Spirit to change our emotions. He points to the Bible verse where God not only directs how we should behave, but also how we should respond: "Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep" (Rom. 12:15).
In studying how Jesus responded emotionally to what He faced, we can also learn how to do so in a way that glorifies God. Driscoll asks readers to consider where their emotions flow from: the Holy Spirit or the flesh?
This article is based on Spirit-Filled Jesus: Live By His Power (Charisma House, 2018) by Mark Driscoll. Driscoll is a Jesus-following, mission-leading, church-serving, people-loving, Bible-preaching pastor and the author of many books, including Real Marriage and Who Do You Think You Are? With a skillful mix of bold presentation, accessible teaching, and unrelenting compassion for those who are hurting the most, Pastor Mark has taken Christianity into cultural corners rarely explored by Evangelicals. He has been grilled by Whoopi Goldberg and Barbara Walters on The View, gone head to head with Piers Morgan on CNN, debated the existence of evil with Deepak Chopra on ABC's Nightline, bantered with the gang on Fox and Friends, and explained biblical sexuality on Loveline with Dr. Drew.

"God Wants to Paint a Picture of 'Hope' in Your Heart Again"
Jo Ellen Stevens, Connersville, IN

Hopelessness is the dread that there is no future for you. This is why God gives us faith to fight this hopelessness, because He is a God of hope. Jeremiah 29:11 (TLB), "For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." The enemy wants us to believe that there is no hope so that He can make us sick inside. Proverbs 13:12, "Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life."

You've Been Sick in the Heart

I am hearing from the Lord that many of you have been sick in heart, sick in body, mind and soul because the enemy, through delays, has begun to try to steal your hope. But God is saying to come to Him again, even right now.

He wants to paint a picture of hope into your heart again. He wants to show you that He is the God of all hope. I heard Him say that this is how He wants to heal you!

He is once again going to give you hope. Not the kind that says, "I hope so," but the kind that brings the joy of the Lord that will be your strength—to fight the good fight of faith until you receive the promises you have been standing and believing for.

Not only that, He wants you to know that He loves you even though you are not feeling as if He possibly could. He wants you to know that if you make your bed in Sheol, He is there and still loves you! If the enemy can convince you that God doesn't love you because you have not received the promise, then he can steal your joy.

Knowing the love of Christ that passes knowledge is how you get through this time of hope deferred.

I hear Him saying that He wants to restore your hope! He said there are some things you need to do to get there.

How Not to Lose Your Hope

1. Get before the Lord and let Him paint that picture of hope to you (He did this for Abraham several times until he hoped against hope). Turn off EVERY OTHER VOICE that is AGAINST what He told you in the beginning!

2. Let Him show you how much He loves you and get it into your heart!

3. If there is a word or words that the prophets have given you which rang true at one time, war a warfare with them. 2 Chronicles 20:20, "Believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe His prophets, so shall ye prosper."

4. Get in the Word of God and CAST DOWN IMAGINATIONS. 2 Corinthians 10:5, "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ..." Take every thought that is warring against that word or words you have received, no matter who it has come from. Cast it down immediately! Get the word and the promise and put them into your heart.

5. Worship God and praise Him for what He has already done in the heavenly realm. It is settled in Heaven, so believe what has been established and say it! Then act like it is the truth. Sing the word. Dance the word. Act out the word.

6. Live like you believe it. Kenneth Hagin used to say, "Faith is simply acting like the Word of God is true!" I heard of a woman who was believing her husband would come back so she began to set the dinner table like he was there and one night he was!

7. Then, having done all to stand, stand therefore with your loins (reproductive parts) girded with that truth. Then pray, pray, pray in the Spirit; you are praying His perfect will when you do! Do all of this with the knowledge of Jeremiah 29:11: HE HAS A PLAN AND A FUTURE. The God-kind of hope is an anchor for the soul (mind, will, and emotions).

Throw your anchor in and then you will stop being moved by these storms that are trying to shake you from your hope and faith. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, and faith is what moves God's hand. Know that your God is big enough and "magnify" Him as David said. Make Him bigger in your heart than your situation. Then watch as God begins to show you who He is!

God is Not a Man That He Should Lie

Hebrews 6:17-20 (TPT), "So in the same way, God wanted to end all doubt and confirm it even more forcefully to those who would inherit His promises. His purpose was unchangeable, so God added His vow to the promise. So it is impossible for God to lie for we know that His promise and His vow will never change!

"And now we have run into His heart to hide ourselves in His faithfulness. This is where we find His strength and comfort, for He empowers us to seize what has already been established ahead of time—an unshakable hope! We have this certain hope like a strong, unbreakable anchor holding our souls to God Himself. Our anchor of hope is fastened to the mercy seat which sits in the heavenly realm beyond the sacred threshold, and where Jesus, our forerunner, has gone in before us. He is now and forever our royal Priest like Melchizedek."
