Are We Entering the Final Stage of Biblical Prophecy? - ASHER INTRATER CHARISMA NEWS

The concept of prophecy developed in stages throughout the Scriptures. The early patriarchs had many, direct prophetic encounters with God. Then Moses brought the prophetic experience to a higher level and became the "father" of the prophets. Moses prayed for all the people of God to be able to prophesy and receive the Holy Spirit (Num. 11:29), but this prayer was only answered at the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost/Shavuot.
Moses' prophecies reached a height at the end of his life in the last chapters of Deuteronomy–hinting at almost everything that we have in the rest of the Bible, even to the end of the book of Revelation. In fact, the idea that the people of Israel would be saved in the end times, and that this would come about by the "fullness" of the gentile nations "provoking them to jealousy," finds its first mention here, calling Israel "a people saved" (Deut. 32:20-2133:29Rom. 10:1911:1125-26).
When the children of Israel came into the Promised Land, the early prophets (Samuel through Elisha) spoke primarily concerning David's kingdom. They believed that the kingdom of God was the kingdom of David. After several hundred years, the prophets realized there was something fundamentally wrong, because David's sons kept falling into sin and idolatry. A turning point occurred when King Uzziah died, and Isaiah had a vision of a glorious divine king (Isa. 6:1-6John 12:40-41). From that time forward, the prophets then began to speak of the "Messiah" on a higher level.
Yeshua is revealed as that King-Messiah in the Gospels. After Yeshua was crucified, resurrected, and ascended, God began pouring out the Holy Spirit on all who would believe (Acts 2:1-4, 17), both Jew and Gentile Thus the prophetic gifts and revelations were made available to all in the New Covenant Church or "ecclesia" (1 Cor. 14:2631).

Last Stage

Now we are coming into the last stage of biblical prophecy, the prophecy of the end times. "You must prophesy again about many peoples and nations and tongues and kings" (Rev. 10:11).
This new stage of prophecy is a consummation of both Israelite and church prophecy. If the prophecies of restoration for the nation of Israel are one "eye," and the prophecies of the "fullness" of the worldwide ecclesia are the other "eye," then it is time to open both eyes!! This could only happen after a 2,000-year history in which now the Messianic remnant in Israel and the international ecclesia are both coming into their "fullness" (Rom. 11:121525).
The prophet Isaiah said: "The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor" (Isa. 61:1).
Yeshua quoted this verse in the gospel of Luke. The second verse in Isaiah 61 states "to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord." In the gospels, the quote ends here. In Isaiah, the verse goes on to say, "(to proclaim) the day of vengeance of our God."
The first part of the prophecy had to do with Yeshua's message of grace and salvation, which began at that time, but the "day of vengeance" was to come much later in the end times. It will occur at the second coming of Yeshua during a time of judgment and war. Yeshua will lead an army from heaven to destroy the wicked, drive demons off the planet, raise the dead, and set up His kingdom. "The kingdoms of the world have become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever' (Rev. 11:15).
Biblical "prophecy" today includes sharing the gospel, encouraging the church, the restoration of Israel and also confronting the nations with the soon coming kingdom: "The king is returning to take back the kingdoms of this world." This type of prophecy was not fully possible until our generation. I believe God is offering a "double" prophetic anointing to enable us to speak of God's destiny for Israel, the church and the nations in these end times.

Why Jerusalem Recognition Matters - Ron Cantor MESSIAH'S MANDATE

Why Jerusalem Recognition Matters

Ron Cantor —  December 12, 2017

I cannot remember another time, in my lifetime, when the world was so completely unified in anger. From France to Turkey, from Hamas to Bernie—the majority of the world believes that President Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital was, at best, a mistake and, at worst, the end of the world!
But don’t fear. This is exactly what the Bible speaks of. Parallel to the restoration of Israel is the rejection of Jerusalem from the nations (Zech. 12:2-3). And nations are irrationally angry over a Jewish Jerusalem. This is a perfect picture of Psalm 2, when the psalmist asks, “Why do the nations rage?” Well, why do they?
And why do the “kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed…”
The answer, in a word, is: Jerusalem.
We see in v. 6 that the Lord rebukes these kings and rulers saying, “I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.” Zion or Tzion in Hebrew, is synonymous with Jerusalem. The kings of the earth take issue with God’s Son (verses 7 and 12) and Jerusalem.
It is interesting that the Muslim world has called for days of ragethe exact word from Psalm 2.

Restoration

And yet, I’ve seen many believers fret over President Trump’s announcement, saying it is irresponsible, racist towards Palestinians, inconsequential, a impediment to peace, etc., completely missing the spiritual significance of it. The word Zion means signpost. Jerusalem is a sign to us.
  • From the 1880s to the present, the Jewish people have been returning en masse to Israel.
  • In 1920, the League of Nations (U.N.) adopted the Balfour Declarationas international law, saying that the region of Palestine would be developed into a homeland for the Jewish people.
  • In 1947, the U.N. voted to partition the remaining 20% of Palestine (80% was given to create the new nation of Jordan) into another Arab state and a Jewish state. (The Arabs rejected it.)
  • In 1948, Israel became a nation.
  • In 1967, Jerusalem was reunified after the Six Day War and the Old City was recovered.
  • From 1984 to 2000, tens of thousands of Ethiopian Jews and around one million Russian-speaking came home to Israel.
  • Fast forward to December 6th, 2017: Jerusalem is recognized by the most powerful nation on earth as Israel’s capital.

Also in the New Testament

The full restoration of Israel is prophesied not only in the Old Testament, but in the New Testament. When Yeshua was asked by His disciples after His resurrection, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” (Acts 1:6), He does not rebuke them for asking a stupid question. For any student of prophets, this was the most logical question.
“This is what the Lord Almighty says: “I am very jealous for Zion; I am burning with jealousy for her … I will return to Zion and dwell in Jerusalem … I will save my people from the countries of the east and the west. I will bring them back to live in Jerusalem; they will be my people, and I will be faithful and righteous to them as their God.” (Zech. 8:2-3, 7-8)
There are dozens of passages such as this. So, of course the disciples would ask about the restoration of Israel. Yeshua responds:
“He said to them: ‘It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.’”
Did you see that? Many people miss it. Yeshua clearly indicates that the Father has set the time and date for Israel’s restoration. This why I have said, if President Trump is truly a type of Cyrus (to be clear, no one has ever said that Isaiah 44-45 was referring to Trump, but merely that Trump may have a Cyrus-type calling), then he will favor Zion. That is what Cyrus is known for. A Gentile head of state gets behind the restoration of Israel. And while Trump did not do this when we expected it in May, during Jerusalem’s 50-year anniversary, he has done it now.
My friend and mentor Asher Intrater paraphrases Yeshua’s response in his new book Alignment (free download here) and I think it is brilliant.
“You have asked Me to restore David’s kingdom to Israel. The prophets envisioned a much wider kingdom which would cover the whole earth (Is. 42, 49). Let’s not settle for just David’s kingdom; let’s go for the whole vision of the prophets. Let’s not set up the kingdom in Israel until we offer salvation to all the peoples of the earth. When they all have a chance to be part of the worldwide kingdom, let’s return and restore the kingdom to Israel. The kingdom will start in Israel as Isaiah said, with its capital in Jerusalem, but it will cover the whole earth.
“I will establish the kingdom government on earth when I return. For now, proclaim both personal salvation and kingdom authority, from Jerusalem to the ends of the earth. In the meantime, there is no need for the nation of Israel to be here until it is time for My return and the kingdom restoration. Therefore, Israel will be scattered while the gospel goes to the Gentiles (Matt. 24:14). Then in the period before I return, the nation of Israel will be restored, so that there will be a place for Me to return and set up the capital of My kingdom.”

Manipulating Scripture

I heard a replacement theology pastor share the other day from Matthew 23, how God is not really concerned anymore with Jerusalem and, in fact, the Jewish people rejected the Messiah in Jerusalem. He quotes Yeshua:
“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. Look, your house is left to you desolate.” (Matt. 23:37-38)
Well, if we stop, it sure looks like Yeshua is done with those pesky Jews. That is what I call intellectual dishonesty. My dear brother was manipulating his hearers because he didn’t read the next verse.
“For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’” (Matt. 23:39)
Read differently, Yeshua was saying to the Jews of Jerusalem, “You will see me again when you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.” The phrase in Hebrew, Blessed is he who comes is a greeting. When someone comes back to Israel from traveling, we say, “Baruch haba” or “Blessed is he who comes.” And Zechariah clearly says that the Jews of Jerusalem will welcome Him back.
“And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.” (Zech. 12:10)
Yeshua left the Mount of Olives with the angel saying, “He’s coming back the same way.” (Acts 1)  Zechariah 14 shows a restored Jerusalem being attacked by the nations, and “then the Lord will go out and fight against those nations, as he fights on a day of battle. On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem.” (Zech. 14:3-4)
Beloved, again, Zion means signpost and each step of restoration in Israel is a sign that we are one step closer to His coming. Maranatha. Come, oh Lord!

Last 2 Chapters of Revelation Reveal Important Intersection in End-Times Prophecy

Standing With Israel
Since John was the last writer of Scriptures, his writings contain a unique view of the whole spectrum of Scriptures from beginning to end. John often spoke in terms of "beginning to end" (John 1:11 John 1:1Rev. 1:817).
This "beginning to end" perspective comes to light particularly in the last chapters of Revelation. The first two chapters of Genesis describe creation and Eden; whereas the last two chapters of Revelation describe the restoration of creation and Eden.
In these last two chapters, there is a special addition about "heavenly Jerusalem" (21:9-22:3). Glorified Jerusalem becomes the centerpiece of the restoration of Paradise. Heaven and earth come together as heavenly and earthly Jerusalem come together. The glorious destiny of both Eden and Jerusalem are one and the same.
Revelation 21:1-2 – "I saw a new heaven and a new earth ... the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven ..."
Revelation 22:1-2 – "...the river of the water of life, coming out from the throne of God and the Lamb; in the middle of the street of the city and on the bank of the river on each side is the tree of life..."
Revelation 22:14 – "... they may have the right to the tree of life and may enter through the gates into the city ..."
Revelation 22:19 – "...his part out of the Book of Life and out of the Holy City ..."
The unification of Jerusalem and Eden comprises the last revelation of Scriptures. The last two chapters of Revelation unify the two great biblical themes of Eden and Jerusalem. This rather shocking perspective unifies the plan of the Bible from beginning to end.
In the Garden of Eden, God planned for the people multiply, fill the earth and eventually form a perfect society with a perfect King. The capital of that kingdom would be at the center of the paradise. The garden of paradise and the capital of the kingdom are one and the same.
Adam was expelled eastward out of Eden; Abraham was sent back westward to Canaan. Adam sinned at the tree in Eden; Yeshua had to be hanged on a tree in Jerusalem to reverse the sin of mankind. Abraham had to offer his son Isaac at the same location, and David had to build his temple there. From there Yeshua rose into heaven, and there He will return to set up His kingdom on earth.
Ultimately Eden will be restored, along with all creation, with Jerusalem at the center. The restoration of paradise, the glorification of Jerusalem and the unification of heaven and earth all come together at the end of God's plan.

Why We're Seeing Double Fulfillment of Bible's 'Wealth of the Gentiles' Prophecies - ASHER INTRATER CHARISMA NEWS

What is the "wealth of the Gentiles," and how does it affect Israel and the church? (Pixabay)

Why We're Seeing Double Fulfillment of Bible's 'Wealth of the Gentiles' Prophecies

ASHER INTRATER  CHARISMA NEWS
There are several passages in the prophets that speak of a day in which the "wealth of the nations [or Gentiles[ will come." (Is. 60:5,91116Zech. 14:14Rev. 21:6).
Is there to be a fulfillment or even partial fulfillment for these verses in our time? Is that to the church?—or to Israel? I think both, to some degree. If so, perhaps there is a double fulfillment to the Messianic remnant.
Why should there be such an abundance of resources? This could not be for greedy, selfish purposes or for a small vision. If the wealth is to come from all the nations, it must be a provision for a vision that will bless all the nations.
Today the possibility exists of fulfilling the great commission of the apostles for world evangelism (Acts 1), unity in the church (John 17), revival in Israel (Rom. 11) and for the millennial kingdom on Earth (Rev. 20).
For such a large-scale vision, an equivalent, large-scale provision would be needed. This is more of a responsibility than a benefit. In fact, it is a huge and difficult burden. But I feel the Lord wants us to embrace the responsibility for such a vision and to believe for its provision.
The Bible records instances in which people sold property and laid the money at the "apostles' feet." The people acted in such supernatural generosity because they grasped the greatness of the kingdom message that was expressed in the "apostles' teaching." They were motivated to support that world-changing vision.
"They continued steadfastly in the apostles' teaching" (Acts 2:42).
"... and placed it at the apostles' feet. And it was distributed to each according to his need" (Acts 4:35).
There is a great danger in this outpouring of financial blessing. Those who receive it must act in strict integrity, even personal austerity, while at the same time being aggressively generous to use the finances to advance the kingdom of God.
The miracle provision in Acts 4 led immediately to the deadly sin of Hananiah (Ananias) and Sapphira in Acts 5. The betrayal of Yeshua by Judas was prompted by jealousy over the extravagant generosity of Miriam pouring out the expensive perfume. The attack of the nations against Israel by Gog and Magog is prompted as well by jealousy over finances (Ezek. 38:12).
Recently at Congregation Ahavat Yeshua in Jerusalem, we taught and prayed humbly for the "wealth of the Gentiles to come" and to be "laid at the feet of the apostles." Five days later we received a call from a dear saint on the other side of the world, who had simultaneously been considering a major donation. He said that God spoke to him and said, "Take the money and lay it at Asher's feet."
May this serve as a supernatural sign for an outpouring of resources to many others for the completion of the apostles' vision in our generation.

Why These Prophetic Conditions Are Aligning Again for the First Time in 2,000 Years - ASHER INTRATER CHARISMA NEWS

Why These Prophetic Conditions Are Aligning Again for the First Time in 2,000 Years
ASHER INTRATER  CHARISMA NEWS
At the turn of the year 2017, as we were praying during our conference in Brazil, I sensed the Spirit of the Lord saying in my heart, to "return to a new age of the acts of the apostles."
For decades, we have looked to the Acts of the Apostles as the pattern for ministry, and indeed most restoration-oriented ministries do so. But I perceived this word to mean something quite different: not just a pattern, but an "age"—as mentioned in 1 Cor. 10:11—"to us upon whom the end of the ages has come."
In Acts 2, the Holy Spirit was poured out in approximately the year 33 AD. The Apostle Paul reportedly was beheaded in approximately 67 AD. The city of Jerusalem was destroyed in A.D. 70. While apostolic revivals have certainly continued around the world, there was a relatively short window of time between A.D. 70-30 in which all of the "action" of the book of Acts took place.
What was the "end of the age" for Paul and the other disciples? In their generation, it was the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70. Another "end of the age" is foretold at the Second Coming (presumably in our generation). There was a previous "end of the age" at the destruction of Jerusalem in 586 BC and another before that in Noah's time (2 Pet. 3:5-10). There will be yet another at the end of the Millennial kingdom (Rev. 20-21).
Yeshua, Peter, Paul and John all relate to a double "end," one in their own generation and one in a later generation (Matt. 24:3). For this reason, there is an overlap of prophecies when speaking of the end times. The first age of the apostles occurred right before the "end of the age" in their day. This new age of the apostles will happen right before the "end of the age" in our generation. Both involve the destruction of Jerusalem (Zech. 14:2).
The first apostolic age took place shortly after Yeshua ascended into heaven from earth. We are in the period shortly before His descent from heaven back to earth. A unique factor in these two time periods is the overlap of the international ecclesia and the Messianic community in Israel. Before A.D. 33, there was no ecclesia. After A.D. 70, there was no Israel. During that one generation, both the ecclesia and the remnant were in position. Today, for the first time in 2000 years, the two again coexist.
We don't know exactly how to count the present window of opportunity. Did it start in 2000 AD and will it end at 2040? Does it begin now in 2017 and end sometime in this generation? I don't know.
However, for the first time in almost 2000 years, the conditions of the book of Acts are coming together again. Moreover, the alignment between a revivalist, apostolic ecclesia in all the nations and a revivalist, apostolic Messianic remnant in Israel is occurring for the first time. There was no opportunity for this alignment to take place in previous generations.
This is a speeding-up of time for the nations, for Israel, for the church, for communications, for revelation, for revival, for persecution, for the completion of the great commission of Acts 1:8, for the outpouring of the Spirit on all flesh according to Acts 2:17 and for the restoration of all things as stated in Acts 3:21. The year 2017 represents a breakthrough, a "restart," for the apostolic and apocalyptic prophecies to take place.

The Role of the Messianic Remnant in Apostolic Ministry - ASHER INTRATER CHARISMA NEWS

The Role of the Messianic Remnant in Apostolic Ministry

ASHER INTRATER  CHARISMA NEWS

Standing With Israel
The Messianic Jewish remnant in Israel today is a partial restoration of the first-century community of disciples, including the emergence of apostolic-prophetic ministry teams within that remnant. Although it is still in its "baby" stages, we believe that the Messianic remnant in Israel will have a certain role to play in the fulfillment of end times' prophecy.
In Acts 1, the disciples received the promise of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. In Acts 2 on Pentecost (Shavuot) morning, they were filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. Between the promise and the outpouring, the disciples gave themselves to fervent, united prayer, which led to revival. Yet there was another element between the prayer and the outpouring: the appointment of the 12th apostle.
At first glance, that appointment doesn't seem significant. However, the restoration of the 12th apostle was important in order to preserve the covenant pattern of the 12 tribes of Israel. It had symbolic significance like the 12 stones of Elijah's altar (1 Kings 18:31) and the 12 stones of Joshua's memorial (Josh. 4:2-3). In God's plan, the "new" is always faithful to the "old"—to the prophecies and patterns established under previous covenants.
The re-appointment of the 12th apostle can be seen as symbolic of the restoration of the apostolic-prophetic Messianic remnant in Israel today. At the same time, through the house of prayer movement, God is raising up a worldwide network of united prayer. The parallel emergence of a united international prayer network and a Messianic remnant in Israel are like end times' puzzle pieces coming into place, and a sign that we are moving toward a historic end-times revival.
The promise of world revival in Acts 2:17 is a quote from the prophet Joel (Joel 2:28-3:1). This text seems to be a prophetic hint that in the generation of those who survived the Holocaust, God would restore the nation of Israel and the city of Jerusalem. Then God would call unto salvation a remnant of faith among the Jews in Israel. When this remnant is in place, the conditions will be set for the end-times prophecies to come to pass. These include both the negative prophecies of world disasters and the positive prophecies of world revival.
In Acts 15, the historic apostolic council took place in Jerusalem to discuss the development of the Gentile churches. They made a gracious, strategic decision to encourage the international churches to grow without having to keep certain Torah commandments which were so important to Jewish identity (circumcision, foods, feasts and so on). These instructions were sent around the world, and the result was that the churches began to grow and multiply (Acts 16:4-5).
Gentile churches do not need to submit in the same way to Messianic leaders from Israel today. However, as we move more into the end times, there will be vital, strategic impartation for the international church coming out of the body in Israel. I believe that the alignment of love and humility between the international church and the Messianic remnant in Israel will re-establish a covenant pattern of kingdom authority that will prepare both Israel and the church for the Second Coming of Yeshua and the establishment of His kingdom on Earth.
Unfortunately, many of us in the Messianic movement have spread teachings that were unbalanced and unedifying. We ask forgiveness for our errors and trust God to heal and bring the blessing He promised. One blessing that should come out of the relationship between the Messianic remnant and the international Church is unity. As there is unity in the Spirit through prayer as described in John 17, so is there unity through being grafted into the same historic root as described in Romans 11. This unity is also described as "one new man" in Ephesians 2-3.

2017: A New Apostolic Age for Israel and the Church - ASHER INTRATER/REVIVE ISRAEL CHARISMA NEWS

2017: A New Apostolic Age for Israel and the Church

ASHER INTRATER/REVIVE ISRAEL  CHARISMA NEWS

Standing With Israel
At the turn of the year 2017, during our conference in Brazil, as we were praying, I sensed the Spirit of the Lord saying in my heart to "return to a new age of the acts of the apostles."
We have, for decades, looked to the book of the Acts of the Apostles as the pattern for ministry. As far back as 1984, we felt the Lord leading us to restore a Messianic Jewish apostolic team. At Revive Israel, we held Acts 1 as our leading vision to finish what the first apostolic team in Jerusalem started.
At Ahavat Yeshua, we held Acts 2 as our leading vision for the congregation in Jerusalem. At Tiferet Yeshua, we have seen the promise for the greater Tel Aviv area to be saved according to Acts 9 and to become a sending congregation like Antioch in Acts 13. At Tikkun International, we seek a cooperative unity with other apostolic networks based on the joint meeting of apostles and elders in Acts 15.
Most restoration-oriented ministries look to the book of Acts as a model for their work.  But I perceived this word to "return to a new age of the acts of the apostles" to mean something quite different: not just a pattern, but an "age"—as mentioned in I Corinthians 10:11—"to us upon whom the end of the ages has come."
In Acts 2, the Holy Spirit was poured out in approximately the year A.D. 33. The apostle Paul reportedly was beheaded in approximately A.D. 67. The city of Jerusalem was destroyed in A.D. 70.
While John continued to live and write until approximately A.D. 90, the explosive work done during the time of the book of Acts was already finished. While apostolic revivals have certainly continued around the world, there was a relatively short window of time shortly after A.D. 30 and before A.D. 70 in which all of the "action" of the book of Acts took place.
What was the "end of the age" for Paul and the other disciples? In their generation, it was the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70. There would be another "end of the age" at the Second Coming (presumably in our generation). There was a previous "end of the age" at the destruction of Jerusalem in 586 B.C. and another before that in Noah's time (2 Peter 3:5-10). There will be yet another at the end of the millennial kingdom (Rev. 20-21).
Yeshua, Peter, Paul and John—they all relate to a double "end," one in their own generation and the one about to occur soon (Matt. 24:3). For this reason, there is an overlap of prophecies when speaking of the end times. The first age of the apostles occurred right before the "end of the age" in their time. This new age of the apostles will happen right before the "end of the age" in our generation. Both involve the destruction of Jerusalem.
The first apostolic age took place shortly after Yeshua's ascending into heaven from earth. We are in the period shortly before His descending from heaven back to earth. A unique factor in these two time periods is the overlap of the international ecclesia and the Messianic community in Israel. Before A.D. 33 there was no ecclesia. After A.D. 70 there was no Israel. During that one generation, both the ecclesia and the remnant were in position. For the first time in 2,000 years, the coexistence of the two has come back into place.
We don't know exactly how to count the present window of opportunity. Did it start in 2000 and will end at 2040? Does it start now in 2017 and end sometime in this generation? I don't know.
However, the conditions of the book of Acts are lining up again as never before in history. The alignment between a revivalist, apostolic ecclesia in all the nations and a revivalist, apostolic Messianic remnant in Israel is now for the first time taking place. There was no opportunity for this alignment to take place in previous generations.
This is a speeding up of time for the nations, for Israel, for the church, for communications, for revelation, for revival, for persecution, for the completion of the great commission of Acts 1:8, for the outpouring of the Spirit on all flesh according to Acts 2:17, and for the restoration of all things as stated in Acts 3:21. The year 2017 represents a breakthrough, a "restart," for the apostolic and apocalyptic prophecies to take place.

Jonah's Major Prophecies: The Parallel Path Between Israel and the Church

ASHER INTRATER/REVIVE ISRAEL  CHARISMA NEWS
Standing With Israel
Jonah delivered two major prophecies. The first is recorded in 2 Kings 14:25—to enlarge the borders of Israel.
It was a message of victory and power. He seemed to be very motivated to deliver this kind of prophecy.
The second was recorded in the Book of Jonah to bring repentance and revival to the nation of Assyria—a Gentile nation, often seen as an enemy of Israel. Jonah very much did not want to bring this message. It was counterintuitive and contrary to his motivation and orientation. He said no to the Lord.
He had to overcome his own resistance to the message. When he did (with the help of a big fish), the message brought revival to the whole nation. The message about repentance was based on his own personal testimony of a miraculous "death and resurrection" experience. That was a form of pre-gospel message. He fulfilled an image of Yeshua (Matt. 12:40).
An entire nation came to faith. This was an initial stage of the future international Gentile church. It was a predecessor to Paul's preaching to the Gentiles and establishing churches around the world.
In addition, the moral reformation in the nation of Assyria changed the whole society. They became the most powerful nation on the earth and dominated the history of the Middle East for the entire 8th century B.C. They became a great kingdom power on earth.
Repentance, revival, testimony of Yeshua's future death and resurrection, Gentile church, kingdom authority, changing history ... all of that resulted from one message. Jonah's two prophetic messages were parallel, but the message to the Assyrians had more effect than the one directed to the Israelites. The message that required death to pride and ego produced more than the one of victory and power.
People are usually more motivated to deliver the types of messages that fit our idea of victory, but often it is the message that requires denying oneself and one's ambition is what has the greater results for the kingdom of God. Even Yeshua had to pray "not My will, but Yours" (Luke 22:42b) at Gethsemane before the crucifixion. Ultimately, that self-denying obedience produced much more fruit than His healing revivals before the cross.
We may also see in these two types of prophecies the two parallel paths of Israel and the church. The disciples of Yeshua wanted to "restore the kingdom to Israel" (Acts 1:6) in the first century. However, Yeshua instead sent them out to the Gentiles "to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8c). Perhaps, like Jonah, they didn't want to "give" the kingdom to the Gentiles.
Thank God, today we have the opportunity to do both. We serve the dual restoration of Israel and the church (Rom. 11). Both are coming to their fullness as we approach the coming kingdom of Messiah on earth.
