Digging deep together - ONE FOR ISRAEL

Dr Erez Soref President of  ONE FOR ISRAEL
Shalom!

Here at Israel College of the Bible the landscape of the Scriptures and the history of Israel is right outside our door! So we make the most of the opportunities to take our students outside, and go on field trips together.

On Thursday we will explore the northern town of Zippori, a feast for archaeologists. It was here that Herod Antipas lived, and it was an important center of Rabbinic Judaism for a while, where the Sanhedrin used to meet. We will see well-preserved mosaics and ancient synagogues, but we will also enjoy some unhurried fellowship time with the students.

STAFF IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Andreas Stutz, Faculty staff

You know Moti, Eitan and Erez by now, but we would love to introduce you to some of our staff who are not so often in the spotlight! Here is Andreas Stutz, who teaches Theology here at Israel College of the Bible.

Andreas is from a Jewish family who made aliyah to Israel from Switzerland when he was three years old. After serving in the Israeli army, he married and moved with his wife to Germany to study Theology.

He has studied in three seminaries there, and earned his most recent qualification from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary at the Bibelseminar Bonn. Andreas pastored a Church in Germany for five years and has now returned to Israel with his family, as a valued member of our faculty at Israel College of the Bible.

Andreas teaches several courses, including Theology, Introduction to the Bible for our "Firstfruits" foundation course, Wisdom Literature, and is currently teaching a course on the book of Acts. He has a great passion for exegesis with a view to preaching, and regularly shares his love of text-driven preaching with our students!

PRAY FOR LONDON AND LEARN HOW TO OVERCOME ISIS

There are some twisted people who are so committed to their religion that they will kill for it. But we are led by a matchless Messiah who never harmed a soul, never encouraged violence, and was even willing to die for his enemies - the very opposite. As we follow Yeshua, are we willing to follow in his footsteps of self-sacrificial love? Martyrs for Yeshua don't kill, but offer life, even to their murderers. Continue reading...

Significant spike in visitors to our websites was caused by the most amazing reason! - ONE FOR ISRAEL

Dr Erez Soref President of  ONE FOR ISRAEL
Shalom!

Yesterday we celebrated the Feast of Purim, which is the time that we read the scroll of Esther, and remember how God amazingly saved his people destruction - yet again!
The name Esther sounds like the word "hidden" in Hebrew, and the word for scroll (megila) sounds like the word to reveal - Purim is a story of secrets revealed, and truth and goodness conquering evil and falsehood.

In that spirit, we are delighted to tell you that our evangelistic websites and videos just got a great deal more exposure, as they were broadcast on the evening news a few days ago!
The news item informed the whole of Israel, on prime time television, where to find all the information they could want on the best kept secret of all: Yeshua the Messiah.

FREE NATIONWIDE ADVERTISING - ON PRIME TIME TV

"Israel News Company" (Channel 2 News) is the largest television news company in Israel. Last Wednesday, on their 6pm newscast, just as families sit down for dinner, they had a five minute section about Eitan and Moti's evangelistic videos on YouTube, and our www.iGod.co.il website "which defends and promotes Christianity".

They were interviewing a Jewish lawyer who is trying to sue YouTube for $200,000 for sponsoring our videos (good luck with that one...) which is really why we've made it to the news. But there is no such thing as bad publicity! The whole country is now familiar with how to search for and find our videos and websites, and we have seen a great surge of people visiting our sites.

They showed a few seconds from one of Eitan and Moti's videos on the news, and praised the high amount of views our videos receiving. Ironically, the news anchor lady who is a religious Jew herself, said on our behalf (and against the lawyer) that, "There are much worse things people need to worry about on YouTube than these videos". How about that?!

Here is just one example of how God is using the situation. This text message came in from a man called Joseph:
"I saw on the news that they spoke about your advertisements on YouTube, I thought to myself 'how fun for you guys to be receiving this crazy free publicity!!` So I decided to check out your videos out see what it's all about, and this is how it all started..."

Joseph said he's now addicted to our videos, and has already watched more than 20! Please pray for him and for everyone who watched the newscast, including the company's staff. These are awesome times indeed!

PURIM AND THE BOOK OF ESTHER

Purim commemorates the narrow escape of the entire Jewish race from the threat of annihilation, and the courage of Queen Esther who bravely stood up for her people. The word "purim" means "lots", due to the method that wicked Haman used to decide the date that they would wipe out the Jewish people in the provinces of Persia. There are many surprises hidden in the book of Esther, where things are not what they seem. Purim is a time Israelis celebrate by "hiding" in costumes! Continue reading...

DO WE BELIEVE IN "THREE GODS" AS THE RABBIS CLAIM?!

There's a rumor going around that the New Testament supposedly teaches a belief in three gods.
To begin with, it's important to understand that this false rumor does not exist by accident. It is based on deliberate brainwashing that has been promoted for 2,000 years, and its purpose is to present the New Testament as pagan.

But no, we absolutely do not believe in three gods! God is ONE, as the Prophet Isaiah said: "Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts: "I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no god." Now check this quote out...

What a mighty God we serve! - ONE FOR ISRAEL

Dr Erez Soref President of  ONE FOR ISRAEL
Shalom!

When I look at your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
The moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
What is man
that you are mindful of him,
And the son of man
that you care for him? (Ps 8:3-4)

Do you ever look up at the moon and stars and think, my Father made that!? As amazing as it is, the way for us to know the One who created the heavens personally has been opened to us. It is staggering that the Almighty God stoops to care for us - and yet he does. Let's remember what a mighty and wonderful God we serve and proclaim!

HOW DO THE HEAVENS "DECLARE THE GLORY OF GOD"?

"If, one day, I should walk into a hotel room and suddenly see my clothes there, my favorite food, paintings by artists I like, where the alarm clock is already set to the time I need to wake up and the air conditioner is set at precisely my preferred temperature, I would know that someone had prepared the room specifically for me before I was there."

There are thousands of "coincidences" in the cosmological world, regarding the necessary prerequisites for the existence of life on Earth which suggest that these are not coincidences at all, but rather outside intervention that has prepared the world specifically for us. This is a section from one of the apologetics presentations we have been working on recently for those who don't believe in God. Continue reading...

YOU NEED SOMEONE GREATER!

PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR BIBLE COLLEGE TRIP TO GERMANY

Please pray for our Arab and Jewish mission team from Israel College of the Bible who leave for Germany this week! They will be explaining the gospel of forgiveness in Yeshua, and also living out the difference that the gospel makes as they embody the "One New Man" that we are in Messiah together as Jew and Arab. They will be sharing with college students and refugees in word and in deed, alongside German churches. The trip is an important part of the training and development for our students as disciples of Messiah, so please pray that this is a powerful time both for them and for all those who God brings across their path!

WHAT DOES "LORD OF HOSTS" MEAN?

Adonai Tzavaot, the "Lord of Hosts" is one of the names of God, used 235 times in the Bible. The first time it appears is in the story of Hannah and her husband Elkanah, in Hannah's struggle with barrenness. Hannah is the first person to call God by this name.
The literal meaning in Hebrew is "Lord of armies":  Tza-va (צבא) is the word for army - and what today refers to the Israeli Defence Force. Tza-va-ot (צבאות) is the plural. Multiple armies. But is it necessarily a military word? What does it mean, when we call God "Lord of Armies"? Continue reading...
