The Holiday of Purim is Coming! ✡ "Esther, His Uncle's Daughter" - ISRAEL365

And he (Mordechai) brought up Hadassah,
that is, Esther, his uncle's daughter;
for she had neither father nor mother.

Today's Israel Inspiration

On the upcoming festival of Purim, we read about the beautiful Queen Esther. But from today's verse we see that Esther was not always an honored royal enjoying the king’s favor. She was a poor orphan of uncertain future, who was rescued and provided for her kind cousin, Mordechai. Today in the Holy Land, there are 817,200 children living in poverty, facing similar challenges to that of Esther before she was wedded to the king. This year, the Israel365 Charity Fund will be bringing Purim joy to 2,500 of these beautiful, young souls. Follow in the footsteps of Mordechai and join us in providing for Israel's neediest this Purim.

Purim in Pictures, A Must See ✡ "That Is Esther" - ISRAEL365

And he had brought up Hadassah, that is Esther.

Jerusalem Inspiration

Esther is the name that comes to mind as the Jewish heroine of the Purim story, however, in the Megillah, we find that her given name is actually Hadassah. Why was Esther's name changed, and why has the second name gone down in fame throughout history? If we look at the meaning of the word Esther, we can see why.  Esther comes from the Hebrew root se-ter, סתר which means secret.  The miracle of Purim was intertwined with the hidden hand of God 'pulling the strings' throughout the story. Esther embodied the idea of hidden and revealed, how that which is evident to the naked eye does not always represent the full story. The Master of the World is the hidden force behind every salvation, and Esther merited the role in history to orchestrate that salvation.

Today's Israel Inspiration

We learn from today's verse about Esther's very humble and difficult beginnings as an orphan with neither father nor mother. Mordechai not only became her primary caretaker as a child, but he instilled in her the Godly values that followed her throughout life, and she never veered from his guidance. In her role as Queen of Persia, Esther became a shining light for all generations of how to preserve one's faith in exile. Today in Israel, TikvahHope provides vital services to needy children, instilling the security desperately needed in their lives.
