LoveMusic! - Spend My Life With You - Phil Keaggy

Spend My Life With You
Phil Keaggy

Aug. 8, 2017

Greetings to you, my good friends who enjoy LoveMusic! from Love For His People

In 1991 Phil Keaggy came out with his 15th album (out of more than 50 he has now produced thus far, at age 66!) called PH'LIP SIDE. One side was acoustic. The other electric. Personally, I liked the acoustic better, but anything Phil plays and sings is fine with me. He is just fantastic.

His long lasting following in the Christian community yet today is encouraging for those of us who can call themselves his "contemporaries". Phil's songs from back then (beginning in the 1970's) are still a real joy to listen to. I bet my best friend Kevin Grafton in Illinois still plays his cassettes! (I tease Kev about his golden oldie ways at times. Still going strong, until the cassette wears out! Thank the Lord for MP3 and more.)

There are several special songs on the vinyl, including "A Child (In Everyone's Heart", "Little Ones" (about the killing of the unborn), "Just A Moment Away", and "I Belong To You".

Though I have featured this song already a few times on our blog, I never get tired of listening to it. I hope you think like that too!

Ahava and shalom,

Phil Keaggy - Spend My Life With You Lyrics

Artist: Phil Keaggy
Album: Miscellaneous
Genre: Christian

Lay me down to rest
Sing me a sweet lullaby
When will I see You again?
Sleep come over me

Can't keep from closing my eyes
The day is gone but You'll carry on
Watching, protecting me into the dawn
Then another day to spend my life with You

'Cause there's a home in my heart
And I believe the day is coming
When we'll never be apart
Just to be where You are
And to spend my live with You
Would be a perfect start

See You when I rise
Morning will bring me Your song
Over and over again

Shine Your light on me
Wash me in resplendent love
There is no shame with You as my aim
Yesterday, today, forever the same
And I only want to spend my life with You

'Cause there's a home in my heart
And I believe the day is coming
When we'll never be apart
Just to be where You are
And to spend my live with You
Would be a perfect start

In Your presence Lord
There I will be satisfied
Over and over again

It Is A Necessity - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

It Is A Necessity
Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“But know that the Lord has set apart the godly man for Himself; the Lord hears when I call to Him.” (Psalm 4:3 NASU

Usually if one writes a message on prayer, many won’t read too much further than the first paragraph, or even sentence. I think it is because we have heard many sermons already on the subject; have read more than one book about it over our adult life as we try to walk the talk; or we carry a guilt complex because we know we should. But don’t. Or not enough.

My sentiments exactly.

Taking the time to pray requires just that – taking the time to pray. But we get up 5 minutes late after hitting the doze button; rush out of the house with coffee and donut in hand; do the normal daily grind; drive the commute to and from work in traffic that grows in numbers daily; watch four hours of TV “to relax”; and then fall into bed hoping for a good night sleep. Maybe throw up a weak word to the Lord. Right?

There are several methods in praying. Some work for others. Some don’t. As for me, I have kept lists so I don’t forget those I really did promise to pray for. But they eventually get lost or forgotten about. My best friend Kevin diligently keeps with a prayer list. How do I know? He tells me, but also faithfully asks me six months later if a prayer request I had told him about was answered yet. And I have seen his spiral notebooks he has saved for decades. Now that is a commitment to pray!

In at least two churches that Laurie and I have been members with, New Covenant Christian Church in East Lansing, Michigan and also All Nations Church in Charlotte, North Carolina area, we have been on a 24/7 prayer team rotation (I got the 3 am shift on a Wednesday morning), and were founding members of a Friday night, 10 pm – 6 am “Watch of the Lord” for almost six years. The amount of literal hours spent in worship with a full team during those eight hours was the best part!

My current customary method of prayer is to take time in the early morning, when others are sleeping - when it is really quiet. That didn’t happen overnight (pun intended). It was a gradual intent and commitment on my part, knowing the necessity of doing it. Too much was happening in family and friends’ lives, the friends of the ministry of Love For His People who gave us prayer requests, the people of Israel, and beyond. I couldn’t honestly look my Lord in the face and say, “Yes, I pray” until I now actually do.

Because the Lord Jesus baptized me with His Holy Spirit, when I asked in 1973 as a senior in high school, praying in tongues is the way to go for me. As I think of those people and situations He reminds me of and leads me in, the prayer language gives me confidence that the best prayers are being said aloud. In several verses of Scripture, the apostle Paul says that he would pray in tongues often. After these many years of experiencing that truth, I see he was right as prayers are answered. Some responses to see evidence may take years to happen, but faith keeps me going.

Throughout the day, when I have a quiet moment at lunch, or as I walk the streets during a break, I pray in tongues. I may not see all that results now because of it, but I expect later to know the effect it was having. When I am in heaven and witness the testimony of those who were saved, healed, or had a supernatural move of the Lord in their life, as a result of my prayer, it will have been worth it.

If you are not baptized in the Holy Spirit, ask the Lord for His power to be given to you. He will give it. Others who know of this gift can help if needed to exercise the prayer language that will come.

We will need more of the Lord’s power in our life in the coming days. As evil becomes more abundant, the necessity of prayer will be more known. His people will pray. He will empower us through prayer, and we will see victory in our lives, and those He has given us the heart for.

Something to think about. And then do.

Coffee Time with Jesus - Now Think On This Steve Martin

Coffee Time with Jesus
Now Think On This
Steve Martin

"Now come and have some breakfast!" Jesus said. None of the disciples dared to ask him, "Who are you?" They knew it was the Lord. Then Jesus served them the bread and the fish. This was the third time Jesus had appeared to his disciples since he had been raised from the dead.” John 21:12-14 New Living Translation

I had just finished making the 6-cup pot of coffee, went and got the Charlotte Observer Sunday paper for Laurie on the front yard, and sat down in my black prayer chair in the front room. I had already been up for a few hours to work on some social media for our ministry Love For His People. Now I was ready to spend some quiet time with the Lord.

But before I did, I picked up my iPhone 4 to send a photo to my long time, best friend Kevin in Illinois. He was working again that morning, the 5 am to 5 pm weekend shift. I like encouraging him with artwork I get off Facebook, with sayings, Scriptures, photos, etc. It gets lonely for him at times, being single for the last 26 years and longing for a wife.

The picture I sent Kevin had a cup of coffee on it, with words declaring the goodness of the Lord. With all the coffee drinkers out there, I also put it on my Facebook page after I had text Kevin with it. Then the Lord spoke to me, something like this. “I enjoy it too when you have coffee with Me.”

Wow. I never thought of it that way. Our Lord Jesus enjoys it when we just sit quietly, drinking a cup of coffee with Him. That surely brings a pleasant thought to my mind and warms my heart. And from what I know of our Father, it surely does to His heart of love too.

Our God, ever present with us, enjoys us so much that He even wants to just spend those times we have, sitting with a cup of java, reading the paper, and starting the day off before it gets too busy. He enjoys the time we give Him. Even the simple, short moments out of our day.

I think of Jesus’ time when He walked the earth with His disciples. Being the Son of Man, I believe the Scriptures that say He had emotions, physical needs, and a manner of life around Him that we face daily. That is why He came, to pay the price required by a Holy God, so we could enjoy eternity in fellowship with Him in heaven. His death and resurrection made the way for this to happen. His love for us was, is, and ever shall be that much. Awesome Lord.

As our personal Lord and Savior, Messiah, Yeshua Ha Mashiach, we have the opportunity now to spend time with Him, as we walk this planet. The eternity in our hearts began anew when we have repented of our sins, accepted His costly shed blood for the forgiveness of our sins, and now can walk the chosen path He has planned for us – to share His love with those around us.

I used to not be a coffee drinker. But I have come to like the taste, with plenty of cream in it, and enjoy the mug full almost every day. Now I know that even in those times, I can invite the Lord to sit with me, talk of the day to come, and just share a bit of our hearts together. He tells me things to be aware of, who to pray for, and how to encourage another that needs His touch today.

It is not a religious thing at all. It is my Friend sharing time with me. And I with Him.

Have a cup of coffee, and enjoy your time with your Friend. You both will enjoy it.

Leadership Through Love - Chapter 7 - "Field Trips & More!" (Steve Martin)

Chapter 7

Field Trips & More!
 - Enjoying Staff Events

- Staff Retreats
- Party Time!
      - Birthdays and BBQs
      - After Hours

Staff are often called upon to make events happen, such as the church picnic, the business expo, or the ministry conference. That is part of the job requirements, and understood by all. But serving others makes one desire, and need, a break once in awhile, to just relax and “hang out”. Just as in families, once a big event has come and gone, the staff needs some down time, apart from the “regular job duties”, to enjoy one another and continue to build good relationships.

Coming from a large family, I appreciate the opportunities we had, and have, to be with one another, where one is not expected to have to “perform”.

Being one who enjoys having a good time, and wanting to see others involved as much as they desire, I saw to it that each staff I was blessed with had times of being together apart from the daily routine or the big event. I realized the importance of having a good time, when the pressures of the daily work or weekend schedule for church weren’t pushing hard.

For the monthly birthdays, we made it a point to celebrate these special days in the life of the accountant, the shipping supervisor, the custodian, the editor, or the receptionist. Having all the employees gather in the lunch room, my assistant and I had a birthday cake, ice cream, and sometimes balloons and other decorations ready to bless those whose birthday it was that month.

This makes each individual know that they are indeed special and important, and not just someone sitting in the chair getting the job done.

Once a year, we would try to schedule a staff retreat, out of town, for two days and nights. Usually this was after the annual conference, or some other event that had required extra effort and time. Going to a mountain retreat lodge, or a resort where all the food and recreation coordination was done by someone other than our own, was always a much appreciated time together.

Being able to gather after office hours, on a weekend or weekday night, gives employees the chance to appreciate each one even more, with an evening baseball or basketball game, racing event at the track, or a good band playing at the food gathering.

Whether the expense is covered by the business, church or ministry, or each pays separately, the staff see this extra care shown by the administrator and other leaders that the whole person is important, in addition to being the one on staff who gets the job done. It is interesting to hear what people say and do when “not on the job”. It can be a very positive addition to the ongoing relationships that are important to maintaining good relationships in the office.

Grill-Master on both jobs!

Another bonding time that is fun to do is to have summer cookouts during the work week day. It seems that each staff has a “grill master” on board, who likes to show off his home crafted skills on the gas grill. Give him or her that opportunity!

Buying either store prepared food, or having each one bring a dish from home, helps create an “at ease” break during the work day. And it makes a good lunch too!

I know the Lord knew the importance of getting His team away from the daily routine, as He would take them apart from time to time. A time to be refreshed, to “recharge the batteries” is important in the business life as well. Just having time to stop doing the normal routine will help keep people desiring to give their best throughout the year.

Planning staff events ahead of time gives people the opportunity to look ahead, to anticipate the time out with the others. As we all like adventure and to get “of the beaten path” sometimes, give the staff these opportunities throughout the year.
