V’ahavta וְאָהַבְתָּ 'And you shall love’ - "Jerusalem ~ The Place of God's Name" - Hadassah from Jerusalem

V’ahavta
וְאָהַבְתָּ    ‘And you shall love’

Jerusalem~ The Place of God's Name

The Israelites miraculously were delivered from Egypt. They were on their way to the 'Promised Land' ~ the land God promised to Avraham and then to his son Yitzhak and to his grandson Yaakov. While still in the desert, the Lord spoke to Moshe of a place that they would come to one day. The place He was leading them. The place of His choosing. The place that He would put His Name.

"But you are to seek the place the Lord your G-d will choose... to put His Name there for his dwelling. To that place you must go." Deuteronomy 12:5

It was not just any place. It was specifically chosen and would play an important part in the continuing relationship between God and His people. All of God's future plans for His children centered, not just around the Promised Land but more specifically a city.

The city that He would mark with His Name.

That city is Jerusalem.

"I will give one tribe to his son so that David will always have a lamp before me in Jerusalem, the city where I choose to put my Name." I Kings 11:36

By practice, we know that when you write your name on an object, you are telling others that it belongs to you. Those who do not know you may not know to whom the item belongs. If your name is written on your jacket collar, if you should forget it somewhere, someone need only look inside and see your name and know that it belongs to you. So it is with the things of God. He is particular about His precious possessions.

He has His own way of marking what belongs to him~ of placing His Name.

The Name of God by which Avraham, Yitzhak and Yaakov knew Him was Shaddai
שַׁדַּי
The first letter, the shin, is often used to represent the whole Name of God. God commanded a special way for the priests of the Temple to put His Name on the people every day:

"The LORD bless you and keep you, the LORD make His face shine upon you, and be gracious unto you. The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. And they (the priests) will put my Name on the children of Israel and I will bless them." Numbers 6: 24-27

The priests were commanded to bless the people with the purpose of putting the Name of  God on them. As they recited this blessing, they would hold their two hands up high together, making the shape of the shin with their fingers. (see photo) This blessing was chanted over the children of Israel every day, thus putting God's name on them every day~ renewing His relationship with them as His special possession.

The name of God as represented by the shin is able to be seen written on Jerusalem. As we look at a map of Jerusalem, we see three valleys running north to south. The darker shaded areas to the left of the numbers on the map below show the valleys. #1 is the Hinnom Valley. #2 is the Tyropoeon Valley. #3 is the Kidron Valley.

We won't go into the past and future significance of these valleys at this time.  What we want to notice is the way in which the three valleys relate to each other. As you can see, geographically the three valleys form the letter shin.

In an almost hidden and mysterious way, God has put His Name on Jerusalem. Just as He said He would. His Name was there before us. His Name was there before Moshe. His Name was there before Avraham. And His Name will be there always.

A reminder of His greatness, a testimony to His sovereignty, an immovable sign of His covenant with the children of Israel~ the Jewish people.

The command He gave Moshe still stands for the Jewish people:

"….you are to seek the place the L-rd your G-d will choose... to put His Name there for his dwelling. To that place you must go."

The Biblical City King David and Jesus Would Avoid Today

There is a foul smell coming from the biblical Kidron Valley.
It's so bad that King David and Jesus, who are said to have walked there thousands of years ago, would today need to take a detour to reach Jerusalem.
For decades now a quarter of Jerusalem's sewage has flowed openly in the Kidron valley, meandering down the city's foothills and through the Judean desert to the east. At its worst, the pollution leaks into the Dead Sea.
The stream runs back and forth between land under Israeli and Palestinian administration, making a fix hard to find. But finally it seems a solution has been reached.
Authorities on both sides have agreed to drain the valley of sewage. According to the plan, a pipeline will be constructed carrying the wastewater directly to new treatment facilities. Each side will fund and build the section that runs through its territory.
Until that happens, however, about 12 million cubic meters of sewage continue to flow through the valley each year.
"Of course it's damaging the environment and the ecological system," said Shony Goldberger, director of the Jerusalem district in Israel's Environmental Protection Ministry.
"It's dangerous and hazardous to the health of the people in many ways."
Added to Jerusalem's sewage along the stream's 30 km. (19 mile) descent through the occupied West Bank is effluent from Bethlehem and nearby Arab villages.
Plants grow anomalously in what should be a dry wadi, animals come to drink, and mounds of baby wipes flushed down thousands of toilets sporadically coagulate along the banks. Sewage seeps into the earth, risking contamination of ground water.
Towards the end of the journey it gathers in a makeshift collection pool and much is used to irrigate date trees, which have a high tolerance for pollutants. But every so often, gravity pulls the refuse towards the lowest spot on earth, the Dead Sea.
"It's like a brown stain," Goldberger said. "It stays disconnected from most of the salty water of the Dead Sea."
With Israeli-Palestinian peace talks at an impasse, projects that require even minor cross-border coordination seldom get done. Israel captured the West Bank in a 1967 war, but under interim peace deals the Palestinians exercise limited self-rule in part of the territory.
"After decades of not being able to solve the problem, for a thousand and one reasons, professional and political, we reached an agreement for building a pipeline in the valley," Major General Yoav Mordechai, the coordinator of the Israeli government's activities in the West Bank, told Reuters.
The Palestinian Water Authority said the agreement was reached out of an "interest to clean the area," but emphasized the two sides were working separately.
While they are both are optimistic, some skepticism remains, since similar plans in past never gained traction.
"We were talking about it, planning it, every time it took two, three, four years. You think you have it, and then the light at the end of the tunnel turns out to be a truck coming at you," said Goldberger.
"I hope this solution will reach the stage where it is built."

Arsonists Target Ancient Jewish Sites Absalom’s Tomb and Cave of Jehoshaphat - Tazpit Press Service BREAKING ISRAEL NEWS

Arsonists Target Ancient Jewish Sites Absalom’s Tomb and Cave of Jehoshaphat

“And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept; and as he went, thus he said: ‘O my son Avshalom, my son, my son Avshalom! would I had died for thee, O Avshalom, my son, my son!’” II Samuel 19:1 (The Israel Bible™)
By: Ilana Messika
The Israeli authorities reported an arson on the weekend of November 12, in the area of the “Tomb of Absalom” and the “Cave of Jehoshaphat,” situated in the Kidron Valley on the eastern side of the Old City separating the Temple Mount from the Mount of Olives.

The fire is said to have caused serious archaeological damages.
The burial complexes in the Kidron Valley are attributed to the Jewish aristocracy of the late Second Temple period and are considered to represent architectural wonders.  The national park around the walls of Jerusalem surrounds the Old City, which represents the historical heart of Jerusalem.
Be a part of Biblical prophecy today!
According to Assaf Avraham, director of the national park under the Israel Nature and Parks Authority: “the findings point to an arson which unfortunately caused severe damage to valuable heritage and archaeological jewels.
“The national park has many visitors but is also, to our regrets, often fertile ground for acts of vandalism carried out by breakers of the law.”
The Israeli Police and the Israel Nature and Parks Authority launched an intensive investigation into the case and preliminary finding seem to indicate arson of a deliberate and criminal nature. Both bodies are attempting to find the people responsible in order to bring them to justice.

Tour Jerusalem's Kidron Valley in this Video! ✡ "Thy Olive Tree" - ISRAEL365

When thou beat thy olive tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs again; it shall be for the stranger, for the orphan, and for the widow.

כִּי תַחְבֹּט זֵיתְךָ לֹא תְפַאֵר אַחֲרֶיךָ  לַגֵּר לַיָּתוֹם וְלָאַלְמָנָה יִהְיֶה

דברים כד:כ

kee takh-bot zay-t'-kha lo t'-fa-ayr a-kha-re-kha la-gayr la-ya-tom v'-la-al-ma-na yih-yeh

Today's Israel Inspiration

In biblical times in Israel, olive trees were harvested by beating the branches with a stick, causing the olives to fall to the ground, as it says in our verse "when you beat thy olive trees". According to the Sages, this hints to the blessing of abundance in the Land of Israel. There will be so much produce that the farmers will only need to harvest what falls off with the beating of the tree branches; they will not need to bother to climb a ladder in order to reach what was left at the top. What remains on the tree is left for the poor and needy. Now you can plant your roots in the blessed Holy Land!
