Kings of Kings Ministries of Jerusalem - update Oct. 1, 2015

A Very Bright Future

A recent interview in Kehila News Israel, Messianic Community News from Israel, focused on Wayne Hilsden and God’s future plans for him at King of Kings Ministries Jerusalem and beyond. Excerpts from that interview are below and the full article is available at www.kehilanews.com

For over 25 years, the name of Pastor Wayne Hilsden has been virtually synonymous with King of Kings, among the more widely recognized congregations on the Israeli Christian-Messianic map. As such, this month (September 6, 2015) marked the end of an era for many when Hilsden officially stepped down as senior pastor, leaving that role in the capable hands of Chad Holland, to lead King of Kings into the next quarter century of serving the Lord in Zion. Click here to watch the service.

Kehila News spoke with Pastor Hilsden about this decision, what it means for both he and King of Kings, and what the future holds for all concerned.

How were you and your wife Ann involved in the birth of what is today known as King of Kings Community Jerusalem (KKCJ)?

Ann and I came to Israel in 1983, along with our sons, Jamie and Joel, and began a little Bible study in a small apartment in downtown Jerusalem along with another Canadian couple, Jim and Kathy Cantelon. I was the co-pastor of King of Kings for the first five years until the Cantelons returned to Canada to establish a new ministry there. It was in 1988 that I became the senior pastor and continued in this role until this month.

During your time as senior pastor, the ministry has grown tremendously. What is the one achievement or area of growth that you are most fond of?

“It’s hard to point to one aspect of our ministry that I am most fond of. There are three main things that we set out to achieve these past three decades – plant congregations, train people for ministry, and be a catalyst for unity and cooperation in the wider body.

“I’m especially fond of the Hebrew-speaking congregations that were birthed through King of Kings. That includes Succat David congregation, which began as a Bible study in our own apartment. “I’m also gratified to see how Israel College of the Bible has grown and continues to thrive and train hundreds of Israelis for ministry. Not everyone knows that ICB used to be King of Kings College, a leadership training center we founded in 1990 in Jerusalem. “Another thing I’m gratified by is the way the Lord has given us remarkable facilities that we were able to buy and open up for the rest of the body.  Today, eleven congregations use one or more of our spaces for their weekly worship gatherings.

“I’m also fond of the fact that my wife, Ann, has been so deeply engaged in ministry with me over these past 32 years. For 25 years Ann was in charge of the worship at King of Kings. But she’s also been active in activating songwriters, musicians and singers to utilize their gifts. Ann has had a lot to do with the production of the ‘Praise to our God’ series of concerts recorded live at our Pavilion.

The stated vision of KKCJ has long been to “be a compelling, Messiah-centered, Spirit-empowered, disciple-making community that reveals the true face of Yeshua to Israel and to the nations.” Do you see this vision being fulfilled today?

“To fulfill such a vision may take generations. But I do believe we’ve made great strides down this road. “We are certainly Messiah-centered and we’re doing our best to show this from the Bible, including the Hebrew Scriptures, that Yeshua is not just the Savior of the world, but the Jewish Messiah of Israel.

What lies ahead for KKCJ?

“Chad Holland, our new senior pastor, identifies completely with our vision. He has said publicly that this vision is one of the reasons he was drawn to the opportunity to serve in King of Kings Community. I have encouraged Chad to not only maintain what we have already been doing, but to dream and envision new arrows that we can add to our quiver.

“Chad is already heading up a brand new initiative called ‘I AM,’ the Israel Academy of Ministry. It launches in October. www.kkcj.org/IAM
“This Academy is not a replacement for Israel College of the Bible, which we love and support. What ‘I AM’ adds is ‘hands-on,’ ‘nuts and bolts’ practical training for anyone engaged in ministry. Evening intensive courses will be taught by experts from around the world, as well as local pastors and leaders.
What’s next for you personally?

“While I am no longer the senior pastor, I will give general oversight to the FAMILY of King of Kings Ministries (from 30,000 feet above). I will continue to be the president of King of Kings Ministries and our Israeli Amuta (non-profit charity). I will also preach once a month on average.

You recently launched an ambitious new initiative to raise awareness of Israel and her role in God’s plan of redemption among Christians worldwide. Can you tell us a little about that?

“Another dimension of our future is to lead the newly-established Fellowship of Israel related Ministries (FIRM).

“With my many responsibilities related to King of Kings, I wasn’t able to find the time or energy to launch FIRM until I was sure we had the right person to succeed me as senior pastor.

“FIRM seeks to introduce FIRM members to potential partners and supporters around the world. This includes not only financial support, but also prayer and man-power support. “We are encouraging people around the world to give 1% of their day to pray for Israel — 14 minutes in total. We are also challenging people to give 1% of their year to volunteer for an Israel related ministry — 3 1/2 days in total. “FIRM is a ‘matchmaker.’ We introduce front-line ministries to potential new friends and partners around the world who would like to support the kinds of ministries who are members of FIRM.”

What kind of response have you had so far?

“FIRM launched in February of this year. Our first conference was held in Loveland, Colorado. With only six weeks to promote the event, it sold out in 12 days. 1,700 attended, including 500 students. Most of the publicity for the event happened through social media, one of the things that FIRM is highly active in.

Next year in Jerusalem?

“We’re excited about our first FIRM-sponsored conference to be held in Israel. FIRM’s ‘JERUSALEM ENCOUNTER’ conference will take place May 31 – June 2, 2016. Leading up to the conference is an adventure tour, especially geared to young adults. We hope to have at least 1,000 in attendance from outside of Israel, as well as several hundred locals. The Next Blood Moon is Almost Here ✡ "There is None Else Besides Him" - Israel365

You have been shown, in order to know that the Lord He is God; there is none else besides Him.

Today's Israel Inspiration

There are two main ways we can come to an understanding of God: through “His Word” (The Torah) and through “His World” (nature). Many of God's messages were delivered by the Prophets of Israel, and today, we look to their writings to understand "His World" and the meaning of the rare Blood Moon tetrad, each falling on a major Jewish holiday. In a new book, all of the prophecies relating to Blood Moons, Shemitah (the sabbatical year), promises to Israel, and the Jubilee, have been gathered in one book, "Israel First!" Don't miss this #1 Amazon release.

BLOOD MOONS:
What is God Telling Us?

What are Blood Moons and how will they affect us? In the Bible, the Prophet Joel states, “The sun shall turn to darkness, and the moon to blood, prior to the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.” (Joel 3:4).

Blood Moons a “Sign of Excitement and Messianic Advancement”

Rabbi Tuly Weisz, publisher of Breaking Israel News, believes that the upcoming Blood Moon is not a cause for fear, but rather a “sign of excitement and messianic advancement.”

Working Towards Moshiach

The world is poised on the brink of cosmic events. Will the coming years bring environment disaster? Catastrophic conflict? World flooding from global warming? Epidemics? Political chaos? This collection of essays discusses the basis for hope and strength in the present chaotic world and demonstrate how we can all participate in the most important activity of our time – working towards the Moshiach (Messiah).

Israel: Storm Clouds Are Gathering - Sam Nadler

Storm clouds are brewing over Israel, but God has Israel's back.

Standing With Israel
Few prophetic portions of Scripture fail to mention Israel. We see in God's Word that the existence of this relatively tiny country is essential for the furthering of God's plan in this world for when Israel as a nation confesses Yeshua as Lord, He has promised that He will return (see Matt. 23:39).
The enemy knows this and has plans to launch an all-out attack on Israel in an attempt to prevent this from happening. Yet God knows Satan's plans, and has told us through His prophets how it will all end. God places yet unfulfilled prophecy in Scripture not to make us speculative about the future, but to assure us the future is under His control so that we would live confidently for Him now.
Allow me to share a prophetic passage from the Book of Jeremiah to illustrate:
"At that time, declares the Lord, 'I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be My people. Thus says the Lord: The people who survived the sword found grace in the wilderness, when I went to give Israel rest. The Lord has appeared to him from afar, saying: Indeed, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you" (Jeremiah 31:1-3).
The time that God is referring to here is revealed in the previous verse, Jeremiah 30:24. This is speaking of a future time when His anger and wrath will be poured out. Yeshua speaks of this time as well in Matthew 24:31. The Babylonian captivity which took place in Jeremiah's lifetime was foreshadowing a future tribulation period, called "the time of Jacob's distress" (Jer. 30:7). The Hebrew word for "distress" is tsara, which can mean "trouble" or "tribulation" (The Yiddish word, tsuris, comes from this Hebrew word).
We see in Scripture that this horrific period of time, to take place in the "last days" (Jer. 30:24), will have 3 purposes:
  • To prove that Satan is a liar—he can't protect his own from the wrath of God (2 Thess. 2:3-12; Zech. 3:1-3).
  • To punish the nations for their sins, especially the sin of anti-Semitism (Is. 29:7-8; Zech. 14:16; Matt. 25:40,45).
  • To prepare Israel for the returning King Messiah and His Messianic kingdom (Deut. 4:30; Hos. 3:5; Zech. 12:10).
This period of time will be so awful that God has to assure us that Israel "will be saved out of it" (Jer.30:7).
Today, storm clouds are gathering as nations are plotting against Israel. Iran has promised that when they get the bomb, they will use it to destroy Israel. Though these threats may seem to be far removed from us, believers who aren't Jewish should not assume they will not be affected, for these nations have also promised that once they get rid of the Saturday people, they will take on the Sunday people.
All followers of Yeshua need to be involved in fighting the good fight in these last days, for it says in Zechariah 14:1-2 that ''all nations will come against Israel." "All nations" means all nations; I believe that this will include the United States as well. This is why we must be praying for the peace of Jerusalem.
It's not that Israel needs the support of the U.S., but that the U.S. must support Israel in order to be on the same page with God. For God says in Genesis 12:3 that He will bless those who bless Israel, and curse those who curse her. We must pray for our government to repent and realize that it is in the U.S.'s best interest to support Israel.
The future is indeed under God's control. But how would He have us to live confidently for Him now?
This section of Scripture in Jeremiah is meant to prepare believers to be a witness and instrument of grace to Jewish people, planting the seeds that will one day bring forth 144,000 zealous Messianic Jewish believers (Rev. 14:1).
Jeremiah 31:1 is the only place in the Hebrew Scriptures that prophesies a national restoration of Israel, that "all the families of Israel" will be restored. Perhaps Paul was thinking of this verse when he wrote in Romans 11:26 that, "all Israel will be saved."
Here in the Hebrew Scriptures, God assures Israel that despite the horrors of that period of time, He will do His greatest work for them. The future problems to be faced will not be the last word on the people of God, for God's Word is always the final word and in His Word we have hope not only for Israel, but also for ourselves, that is if our lives are founded upon that same Rock (Matt. 7:24-25). The hope of Israel is the only sure hope for all people.
This national restoration of Israel is still in the future tense, but today God has set apart a "remnant according to His gracious choice" (Rom. 11:5). God has many Jewish people today who are ready to hear and respond to the Good News, and He has sent us to tell them!
For Israel and for each person individually, there is only one way of salvation: by His grace (Jer. 31:2). I've been at meetings where over 70 Jewish people have come to faith at once, yet each one had to accept Yeshua by grace through faith as they responded to God's love for them in Messiah. What God does in Messiah for each of us, He will also do for the nation of Israel when they trust in Yeshua and make the confession of Isaiah 53 as a nation.
God's everlasting love which "draws us" (Jer. 31:3) is completely beyond our experience as it is based on His righteous character. He loves each of us knowing who we are and never, ever gives up on any one of us! This is why we must never give up on Jewish people—because God never will. He has called His body to "pray for the peace of Jerusalem" (Ps. 122:6), and bring the Good News "to the Jew first and also to the Gentile." (Rom. 1:16).
Today we can move forward in this great calling, confident in a God who holds the future as well as the lives of each of His children!

Shabbat Inspiration

Today's verse gives a beautiful metaphor to describe the Messianic age. Just as nothing can halt the flow of the ocean, so too nothing will be able to stop the spread of theknowledge of God throughout the world. Yet just as the depth of the ocean waters varies from place to place, so too the depth of one's knowledge of God will only be as deep as the amount of effort that one exerts. Root Source teaches Christians around the world about Jewish ideas and thought to help them more deeply understand the roots of their faith. Their new book, "Israel First", explores the latest Biblical phenomenon happening today- Blood Moons, Shmittah, the Jubilee year, and promises to Israel - and what it all means for Israel and the world. Don't miss it!
