A Lighthouse & Watchman - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

A Lighthouse & Watchman

Note: In a recent communication from good friends from Israel, I was reminded of this message the Lord gave me in Feb. 2016. Even so more valid today.  Steve Martin

“I am God. I have called you to live right and well. I have taken responsibility for you, kept you safe. I have set you among my people to bind them to me, and provided you as a lighthouse to the nations, to make a start at bringing people into the open, into light: opening blind eyes, releasing prisoners from dungeons, emptying the dark prisons.” (Isaiah 42:6-7, THE MESSAGE)

We have been hearing much in our Sunday gatherings on our roles as being watchmen. I take that word seriously, and act on it - to pray, to proclaim, to write accordingly, and then to post on our blog Love For His People. Even as the watchman of old sought the Lord, listened to His voice, and spoke out what they were told, I too want to be one who does that.

While being faithful as a watchman to bring the warnings that come with the territory, there is also always hope in the midst of it all, as that comes straight from the Father’s heart. His light brought forth, as a lighthouse, guides us through the sea of life.

Jesus’ love for the nations causes Him to bring awareness to His people of what is coming. His prophetic words, recorded in the historical Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, have proven over and over again of His loving actions. The Lord God of Israel, the Messiah, has continually sought to draw us to Himself through those writings, and current warnings.

Another practical, visual way the Lord has also demonstrated His light shining in the world has been through the ocean and lakeside lighthouses. Located on many coasts throughout the world yet today, these beacons of light through the centuries have given direction to the incoming vessels, and hope to the ones anxiously watching for a light to guide them safely into the harbor. They have stood tall while withstanding the raging seas and mighty storms that have pounded and battered at their foundations through the years.

Lighthouses are a vivid example of the Lord’s hope, standing strong and tall in the battle, shining forth the beam of hope to show us the way.

One summer in the late ’90s our family took the time for a vacation trip, to do the eight hours of travel from Charlotte to the Atlantic Coast of North Carolina. Our goal was to visit all seven lighthouses, from Currituck as the northernmost one, stopping at the most famous and tallest Cape Hatteras on the Outer Banks, with the final destination being close to the southern border with South Carolina.

Cape Hatteras on the North Carolina Outer Banks
We did it in the seven days we had. We started at the northern end, first with Currituck Beach Light Station, followed by Bodie Island Lighthouse, Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, Ocracoke Lighthouse, Cape Lookout, Oak Island Lighthouse, and finally Old Baldy, on Bald Head Island. Being that one is only accessible by water or air, we didn’t make it out to see it. Someday we may!
As lighthouses and as watchmen too, we have been called upon to stand strong, prepared in our spirits to announce the oncoming storms that seek to take out or overtake the Lord’s people. As lighthouses in the spiritual realm, watchmen are to stand ready to shine the light, the silver lining of hope, as the darkness seeks to consume the continents with its encroaching power. The Lord has given us the weapons of warfare and the fortitude established in our character to be the watchmen and the spiritual lighthouses.

We have been prepared for the war ahead.

Walk With Me - Steve Martin at Antioch International Church, Fort Mill, NC Oct. 28, 2018

Now that my good wife Laurie and I have come back to Antioch, after a 4-year hiatus (returning in May 2018) I am even more excited about what the Lord has done, and what He will do.

In late August 2018, I was then asked to join the staff to serve in an accountant's and executive pastoral assistant's role. I did so beginning Oct. 1, 2018, and am very happy to serve with the "young" pastors and leadership of Dr. Peter and Joy Wyns, Pastors Jesse and Liz Enns, Matt Wyns, Mike and Robbie Stephens, Mari Vance, and Renee Mills. Plus the 50+ volunteer's directors!

Come visit if you are in the area. You may just end up making it your home family church.

Billy Graham Funeral to Take Place Under a 'Canvas Cathedral' March 2 - CBN News

Billy Graham
Billy Graham Funeral to Take Place Under a 'Canvas Cathedral' March 2
02-21-2018
Billy Graham will finish the same way he started – under a large white tent in front of thousands of people.
Family spokesman Mark DeMoss announced Wednesday evening that Graham's funeral service will be held Friday, March 2, at 12 noon in a canvas tent set up near The Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Graham's coffin will be moved from the funeral home in Asheville to Charlotte on Saturday, Feb. 24.
Graham will lie in repose at the Graham Family Homeplace from 8 a.m.to 10 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. The public will be allowed to pay their respects to the great preacher during that time.
The funeral service is private and will include family members, friends, and community leaders who were touched by Graham's ministry. Approximately 2,300 people will be invited to attend the 90-minute service.
Graham personally approved the planning and details of his funeral arrangements years before his death and made sure the focus will not be on him, but on the gospel. His son, Franklin Graham will give the funeral message, while his brother and three sisters will speak briefly to honor their father.
Graham's preaching ministry first gained national prominence in 1949 when he held a crusade in downtown Los Angeles under a large white tent, also known as a "canvas cathedral."
"His family and team members thought it would be fitting to also conduct his funeral service under a tent as a reminder of how his public ministry was launched," DeMoss said.
Graham's casket was hand-made by Angola Prison inmates in 2006, at his request.
Graham will be buried next to his wife Ruth, who died in 2007, at the foot of the cross walkway at the Billy Graham Library.

Rabbi tells local TV vandalism occurred days after family put up Hannukah decorations; police paint over graffiti so kids won't see it

A large swastika was spray painted on the garage door of a Jewish family in Charlotte, North Carolina. The swastika was painted overnight Tuesday, according to local reports.

Police painted over the swastika on Tuesday morning before the family’s children could see it, WBTV reported.

The swastika was drawn days after the family put up decorations for Hanukkah, the family’s rabbi, Dusty Klass, told the television station. The rabbi said the family wanted people to know that the incident had occurred to open a discussion about it.

“They were shocked, they were hurt, they were angry,” Klass said. “It was really important to them that people know this happened here in Charlotte and that it’s not OK and that it could happen to anyone and that we need to know about it and talk about it so we can do something about it.”

There were 15 reported anti-Semitic incidents in North Carolina in the first six months of 2017, according to Anti-Defamation League statistics, compared to one in the state in all of 2016.

Billy Graham - Celebrating his 99th birthday in Charlotte, North Carolina

Nov. 7, 2017

On this 99th birthday of Billy Graham, I was able to visit his boyhood home (relocated) and the Billy Graham Library here in Charlotte, North Carolina. Below are some photos from this time on the grounds, just 15 miles from our home in Pineville, North Carolina.

This Graham dairy farmhouse originally was located on Park Road South in what is now central Charlotte, relocated by Jim Bakker to Heritage USA in Fort Mill, South Carolina in the mid-1980's, and then moved again, brick by brick, to this current location off Billy Graham Parkway, near the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport in west Charlotte.

It is a beautiful site, with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, headed by Billy's son Franklin Graham, next door.

Billy's wife Ruth Graham was buried here in 2007, and now also the location of the gravesites for the long associated team members, George Beverly Shea and Cliff Barrows.

I share a few of those photos below that I took today on site.
