Are States One Step Closer to De-Funding Planned Parenthood?
CBN News 02-17-2017

A newly passed resolution allows states to starve Planned Parenthood of taxpayer dollars.
Congresswoman Diane Black, R-Tenn., spearheaded H.J.R. 43, essentially overturning the Obama administrations's order that forced sates to give Title X funding to abortion giants like Planned Parenthood. Now, states have the freedom to cut abortion funding without fear of pressure from the government.

Congresswoman Black, a registered nurse, says this fight hits especially close to home and will give mothers more options for better care.
"For me, this issue is personal," she said as she defended the resolution before Congress. "As a registered nurse, I know that vulnerable women seeking true comprehensive care deserve better than abortion-centric facilities like Planned Parenthood."
Clarke Forsythe, president and senior counsel for Americans United for Life, praised the resolution as "an effort to reverse President Obama's last-minute gift to the abortion industry to funnel as much money as possible into the coffers of the nation's top abortion provider, Planned Parenthood."
Congressman Robert Pittenger, R-N.C., who voted in favor of the resolution says the measure was about about making life sacred again.
"God's gift of life is precious to us all. In His sacred Word, God tells us he knew us in our mother's womb. As your Member of Congress, I will continue to fight for the unborn and support life affirming investments in women's health," Pittenger said.
He also adds that this resolution is "just one step" Congress will take to protect life in America.
The measure is on its way to the Senate.

House Fails to Override Veto to Defund Planned Parenthood - CBN News

House Fails to Override Veto to Defund Planned Parenthood
02-02-2016

Republican lawmakers launched another effort to repeal President Barack Obama's signature healthcare law Tuesday, despite having no chance of succeeding.
Tuesday's vote was an attempt to override Obama's veto last month on a bill to gut Obamacare and end federal payments to Planned Parenthood.
Even before the scheduled vote, GOP lawmakers did not appear to have the necessary two-thirds majority to override a presidential veto. Yet, to many, like Rep. Robert Pittenger, R-N.C., the vote was symbolic.
Pittenger told CBN News the vote gave conservatives an opportunity to draw a distinction between their priorities versus the priorities of the Democrats. Click here to listen to Rep. Pittenger's comments: Defund Planned Parenthood
"We want to make it very clear to the American people where we stand and where the president stands. That's why we put this on his desk," he said. "We want them to know that we are standing for righteousness. We're standing for truth. We're standing for the lives of the unborn.
"And we're standing for a budget that is one that will bring accountability to our government and that's what we're about," he added.
Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., said the effort would send an important signal.
"What we're proving today is if we have a Republican president next year, we will repeal Obamacare," Ryan told reporters.

The 'Troubling' Turn in US, Israel Relations

The 'Troubling' Turn in US, Israel Relations

JERUSALEM, Israel -- Israel and the United States have enjoyed a very close relationship going back to the creation of the Jewish state. But on a recent visit to the Middle East, two U.S. congressmen said they're troubled by the direction the relationship is taking.
In a region where radical Islam looks to seize power from long-time dictators, Israel is the sole democracy. On the frontlines of the war against terrorism, it's also a leader in the world of hi-tech and medical advances.
On a fact-finding mission to Israel recently, hosted by a group called "Yes! Israel" and sponsored by Laurie Cardoza-Moore's Proclaiming Justice to the Nations, U.S. Congressmen Dennis Ross, R-Fla., and Robert Pittenger, R-N.C., talked to CBN News after visiting Judea and Samaria to learn more about how the country protects its people and way of life.
"I'm concerned that we as Americans don't truly appreciate or understand and therefore don't appreciate how significant Israel is, not only to our survival as a country, but also the survival of the free world, especially here in the Mideast," Ross told CBN News.
"They [Israelis] have been our surrogate fighting the terrorists," Pittenger said. "We have helped contribute to the Iron Dome, which is a missile defense system that they've developed."
The congressmen's comments come at a time of unprecedented friction between U.S. and Israeli leadership over the issue of a nuclear Iran.
"The prime minister is the Winston Churchill of our era and regrettably President Obama is the Neville Chamberlain," Pittenger explained. "He doesn't see the facts. He doesn't see the issues."
Pittenger said he was disturbed that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appeared unsure of U.S. help in its time of trouble.
"Frankly, I asked the prime minister at such time that you believe that you will need America, will you believe America will be there for you?  And the best answer he could give me was 'I hope so,'" he said.
Other long-time U.S. allies -- like Egypt, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates -- are looking to Israel for help in fighting radical Islamic groups.
"Who came in to help Egypt?  It wasn't us. It was Israel," Pittenger told CBN News. "Israel has been the best partner that President el-Sisi has had to defeat the Muslim Brotherhood. Israel has as well been giving significant strategic assistance to Jordan."
The congressmen said the U.S. could learn a lot from Israel.
"We don't understand what a resilient country that this is -- under enormous pressure and challenge from its borders. In the midst of that, they're one of the strongest, entrepreneurial economies in the world," Pittenger said.
"We can learn a lot about not only their commitment with the young people going into the IDF and having public service, we can learn a lot from their opportunities for economic development," Ross said. "We can learn a lot from their agricultural skills that they've honed and turned a desert into a very vibrant and successful agricultural arena."
