THE ANCIENT CHALLENGE (c) Morris E. Ruddick

THE ANCIENT CHALLENGE

(c) Morris E. Ruddick

At the crux of today's culminating, age-old drama of good against evil have been game-changers, leaders with alliances both from within and outside the community of God's people, whose righteous response to His standard would advance His purposes.

This advance has been demonstrated with strategies impacting the infrastructures of culture, economies and power. Yet, the most important elements for historians: God and His chosen people Zion have largely been ignored in recording the story of man. Understanding the times and knowing what to do rest on a realistic grasp of the historic strategies employed by God and His chosen.

Abraham established the community model for God's people to live in self-sufficiency, as a people of God. Isaac gleaned the secret of God's economy and supernaturally prospered through God, despite the impact of famine. Joseph demonstrated how stewardship that abides in God's presence can influence the spiritual climate of a society and release God's authority within its infrastructures, to overcome impending evil and to accomplish God's purposes.

Moses provided the framework for the Abrahamic model to inoculate itself from the subtle wickedness of the surrounding world and become a society of the righteous, living for God. David demonstrated the leadership response to God's guidance needed to shape a society of diverse factions into a Kingdom of God's people, that would prompt awe for God and His people from all those around them.

Jesus raised the bar to the ancient challenge and opened the gates to the authority that governs cultures, economies and power. In so doing He set the Kingdom standard for applying righteous power in a corrupt world.

The world has reached just such a flashpoint.

A frequent question concerning the calling of modern-day Josephs has been "when will the time of the Josephs manifest?" The answer is the same as it was in the days of Joseph the Patriarch: "When God speaks to Pharaoh." However, the prelude to God speaking to Pharaoh will be shaped by the amassing of prayers and steadfast faith demonstrated by the stewardship of the Josephs.

There's a shaking taking place all around us. God is allowing the box to be rattled so that we begin looking outside-the-box instead of at ourselves. The time of Joseph was a time in which God's plan was far bigger than the status quo and the short-sighted religious, ambitious thinking of even God's chosen. So it has been that the role of game-changers has never been limited to the parameters of the "box."

With evil coming out of the closet today at unprecedented levels, the challenge, as it has reemerged across the centuries, is for God's people to stand against evil. With that will be the emergence of the leaders, the game-changers, whose influence impacts culture, economies and power to embrace this mandate of the ancient challenge.

PRAYING FOR YOU by Morris Ruddick

PRAYING FOR YOU

(c)  Morris Ruddick

In Memory of Our Grandson Isaiah Bird
April 1, 2004 - December 24, 2014

"Been praying for you."  How often do we hear, as well as voice these meaningful words? Praying for one another and depending on the prayers of others can be critical, with the substance behind these words deserving closer examination.

Several years ago, on an overseas mission, I recall a time when I entered into a situation with an outcome that only could be redeemed by God. Not even having the presence of mind to know what to pray for at the time, I found myself desperately crying out: "Lord, mobilize some intercessors to pray for me!" Within minutes, I had a calm descend upon me, with an awareness of being prayed for -- and the impossible situation was indeed redeemed.

At the other extreme, I recall a time when, at the urging of a friend in ministry, I spent some time praying with a brother who had hit a season of turbulence. I continued with follow-through for him in my own prayer closet. Some time passed without hearing from him. Then I got a note from him expressing annoyance at receiving a quarterly prayer letter from me. Despite the demands on his time, this man had taken far more time to express his displeasure in my asking for his prayers, than it would have taken to just shoot up a couple of covering prayers.

Even genuinely called intercessors can hit times when the pressures mount and priorities are not clear.

Yet, the reality is that there are times when confronted with spiritual challenges that extend beyond our own faith and prayers in which it is the prayers of others that become the deciding factor. It is the way the Body is supposed to operate. While not every believer is called as an intercessor, we are all called to intercede. For each of us, we have entered a time in which the words of the prophet Samuel should be a constant reminder: "God forbid, that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you."
1 Samuel 12:23

We each have vulnerabilities that can be compensated for -- by the prayers of others.  Peter Wagner wisely advises that those in ministry should have a prayer shield of those who pray for them. His model for a prayer shield includes a handful who serve as a frequent-contact inner circle; a second level of those with whom we are in regular contact, but not with the frequency or detail of the inner circle; and then a third and larger group who we only connect with periodically with a big-picture outlook of developments.

The Reciprocity Factor
Relationships that carry the expectation of people praying for you cannot extend very far, without operating in reciprocity.

Reciprocity is a mutual dependence, activity or influence. It is a cooperative exchange of effort or considerations between two parties, with each looking out for the other. It is a relational thing that in effect serves the common, but higher good. Reciprocity takes maturity and trust to operate. The trust for reciprocity stands on a maturity that is never afraid to risk supporting others and working cooperatively. It operates openly and both ways.

The apostle Paul expressed it this way in his letter to the Galatians:
"Bear one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ."

Reciprocity in intercession is a significant reflection of the Body operating maturely because of the way it facilitates the paving of new ground that neither party could have accomplished without the other.

Reciprocity will be a key factor as the Body faces a season marked by great turbulence and change. Reciprocity and the combined authority it evokes will have a unique bearing on advancing the Kingdom.

On the other hand, there is a need for wisdom as it relates to the manner in which we extend our availability. Wisdom is needed from the Spirit to avoid overcommitments or matters that would inadvertently distract or suck life from us.

God forbid that mature believers should ever fall short in extending reciprocity.  Operating as a giver of Life, rather than being a taker, was reflected in Paul's words that expressed both the cost and the supernatural impact tied to being Life-givers.
"That the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed-always carrying about in this body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body."
2 Corinthians 4:7-9

God forbid that our zeal for accomplishment in our own callings should blind or override our ability to have a balance in bearing the burdens of those within our sphere.

Judas was the epitome of one-way relationships that never quite grasps the reality of the higher good and approaches relationships as a means to their own end. In a word, Judas was a taker and not a giver. He didn't trust, because in his arrogance he knew he couldn't be trusted. He failed not only because his zeal blinded him to what God was doing, but also because he misused the authority of his position to do his thing independently. The Judas factor illustrates an immature purpose-driven zeal built on an outdated and distorted model.

"God forbid, that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you."

Levels of Intercession
Not unlike Dr. Wagner's model for prayer shields, our model for praying for others should encompass different response levels based on a mix and balance of the burden from the Lord and the relationship with the individual.

The most basic level would involve simply lifting the name of a person before God's throne of grace and asking for blessing and fulfillment in their lives. An intermediate-level response might suggest a more robust form of intercession as described in Ezekiel 22:30"I sought for a man among them who would make up the hedge and stand in the gap."

This involves discerning the gap or lack in the situation-and then praying in faith with the appropriate scriptures that seal off that gap. Then, the highest level of intercession is what old-time Pentecostals refer to as "praying through" or travailing in prayer until there is a release that affirms that the answer is at hand.

Holding the Rope
Within these levels of intercession is an illustration in Acts 9:25 of "holding the rope." This is the story of when the brethren saved Paul's life from the plots of his persecutors by letting him down the city wall in a basket at night. Those holding the rope of the basket being lowered, which held Paul, illustrate the role that our intercession plays in the lives of those in our sphere.

There will be times when there is only one or two whose spiritual alertness is such that the rope will even be held. Sadly, there are times in which the zeal, the preoccupations and the distractions can be such that there are none to hold the rope. This should not be so.

Again, our willing readiness to grab and then hang onto the rope will be determined by a mix between the burden from the Lord and the relationship with the individual. The degree to which we sacrifice for others in holding the rope or standing in the gap is a mark of spiritual maturity. However, the degree to which the Body is functioning in maturity by standing in the gap or holding the rope for those within their spheres, at each level, was spoken of in Paul's letter to the Ephesians.
"From whom the whole body, being fitted and held together ??by what every joint supplies, according to the ?proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself ??in love."  Ephesians 4:16

"Been praying for you!"

Core Prayer Issues
Abiding in God's Presence. Foremost at the core of praying for others is the reality of the time we spend in God's presence. That time is not designed as an exercise or an obligation. There should be a passion for His presence that turns us into firebrands who go around igniting revival. What we impart to others should be an overflow from that time spent with Him.
"That the excellence of the power may be of God and not us."  2 Corinthians 4:7

While we each need time alone with the Lord, our lives should simultaneously reflect an ongoing consciousness of His presence, a reciprocal flow of spiritual oneness. Jesus described this ongoing oneness with the relational dynamic He had with the Father:"The Son can do nothing of Himself, He can only do what He sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, the Son does also. For the Father loves the Son and shows Him all that He is doing." John 5:19, 20

This truth parallels what Jesus imparted about our "abiding" in Him.
"I am the vine and you are the branches, whoever abides in Me, and I in Him will bear much fruit. Apart from Me, you can do nothing. But if you abide in Me and my words abide in you, you will ask what you will and it will be given you." John 15:5-7

The closer we are to "abiding" when we pray, the closer we are to knowing WHAT to pray, in order to bring results in a given circumstance. THIS is spiritual reciprocity in action -- the dynamic designed to overflow into the way the Body as a whole functions. The Apostle James' decree that broke long-standing Jewish traditions for Gentile converts reflected this reciprocal abiding unity when he said, "it seems good to the Holy Spirit and to us."  Acts 15:28

Imparting the Presence of God. In John 15:13-15 Jesus outlines a level of reciprocity that marks seasoned, mature believers. It is the lifeblood for operating as instruments of God's purpose with results that defy what we consider as the natural order of things. It involves embracing and then extending the presence and friendship of God to those bound by the devil and the precepts of men.

Psalm 15 is a bedrock truth that outlines the parameters for operating in and extending the friendship and presence of God. It deals with some nitty-gritty issues, such as slander and reproach that are tied to how we should be responding to members of the household of faith. Yet, at its core pivots the truth of "walking in integrity, working righteousness and speaking truth in our heart."

For our time in the presence of the Lord to be real, approaching His presence has the requisite of speaking truth in our own hearts. That should not be confused with obsessive introspection. However, it is foundational to extending the love and grace of God. It also means that for us to be able to stand in the gap for others, without being spiritually pummeled as a result, we need to have a realistic appraisal of what is operating in our own hearts.

Operating in our Sphere of Authority. Each of us has a sphere of authority that is tied to our calling. The parameters of that sphere vary with each of us.  However, a realistic grasp of the individual scope of that sphere for the mature believer defines a very powerful arena when it comes to petitioning the Lord on behalf of others. Moses reasoned with the Lord following the Israelite's transgressions in the wilderness. Nehemiah petitioned the Lord on behalf of restoring Israel's dominion over Jerusalem.

Yet, beyond the boundaries of our individual spheres are thresholds that will require a combined authority to truly see the answers to our petitions manifest. It is why unity within the Body is so important to issues such as transformation and the miraculous.

While the importance of individual time in the presence of the Lord can never be diminished or sacrificed, there is special power in prayer that results from the meshing of anointings that reflects an overlap in the "authority spheres" of those praying together for common purposes.

The Spontaneity to Pray
When these core issues converge, there will come a spontaneity-for-prayer-and with that spontaneity, a new level of the Body functioning in maturity. Body maturity and the increase of the miraculous can be expected to go hand in hand. For the miraculous to become the mode rather than the exception is going to require a shift within the Body. While many within the Body do flow on this level, far, far too many are still guided by the precepts of men and operating according to their own strengths as described by 2 Corinthians 4:7. It is a path that falls short.

The shift is from the self-focused mind-set to mind-sets that are intent on imparting Life. Evelyn Roberts used to speak about bringing God into the "everydayness" of our lives. The gap in the dichotomy between the lives we live and the meetings we attend to get a mere touch of His presence should and can be bridged by entering the place in which His presence is ongoing.

Jesus gave a lot of focus to teaching on prayer. Transforming, miraculous prayer is an activity for every believer, rather than it being reserved for those who might be referred to as "the God squad." It was at the core of the vibrancy and spontaneity of the Jesus movement in the late 1960s and the 1970s.

Jesus modeled our priority for prayer and the importance of our time in God's presence by spending entire nights with the Father. However, at a time when everything that Jesus had come to do was converging and in the crucible, the forces working against our seizing the initiative in prayer is illustrated by Jesus' own inner circle falling asleep.

While at Gethsemane, Peter, James and John were simply unable to stay awake to keep watch and pray with Him-for even an hour. Yet, simultaneously, in that very hour, Jesus' own travail in prayer was of such a fervor, that the scripture (Luke 22:44) describes it as Jesus agonizing in prayer to the degree that His sweat was as great drops of blood falling to the ground.

The Apostle James outlined the dimensions of a range of needs and our prayer-response to them. He began with those who were afflicted or suffering evil by telling them simply, to go pray. So often when we're oppressed or depressed, we look for someone to do something for us. James simply said the answer is to get alone with the Lord-and to pray.

James went on to note, that if someone is sick, that it will require getting others involved-to pray over the one who is sick. When that occurs he tells us that the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick and the Lord will raise Him up. Then he adds something else. He says: "And if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven."

Then James gives the admonition to be open in our relationships by being real about our sins and shortcomings -- AND to pray for one another. This is the model for the type of spontaneous gathering together that happens when there is revival in the air. It is from that point, that he takes a jump to describing Elijah as having been a man with a nature no different from ours; yet who prayed fervently and saw remarkable things happen. So it should be with us today.

The scope of matters covered by James brings this conclusion to the issue of "been praying for you." Prayer needs to be ongoing. It needs to be spontaneous. We should each have what weapons' specialists call a hair-trigger to pray. A hair trigger is one that you barely touch and it goes off. It relates to bringing the Lord into the equation in each dimension of our lives. It should be the natural order of things.

When we hear the words "been praying for you," it should evoke a response of "well then, let me tell you what God has been doing!" When we share the words, "been praying for you," it should be a reflection of imparting Life and holding the rope until we can share in rejoicing about God's intervening goodness. Reciprocity is at the heart of both ends of the spectrum of prayer and intercession. The reciprocity from abiding in and extending God's presence will nurture Body maturity and fuel revival, the miraculous and societal transformation.

The apostle Peter sums it up with these words:
"As every man has received the gift, even so minister the same as good stewards of the manifold grace of God."  1 Peter 4:10

The Strategic Intercession Global Network (SIGN) is closing in on its twentieth year of operation. Some members of SIGN I know well. Some I recognize by your email address. Some have been a part of this ministry since its inception. I thank God for each and every one of you--and for the hearts which hunger for more of the Lord that respond in praying into issues so critical to this hour.

I also wanted to say that I've been praying for YOU--and wanted to thank each of you who have spent time in God's presence praying for us. What this ministry represents is clearly beyond the scope of my human abilities. My six marketplace books and the God's economy entrepreneurial program are an outgrowth of throne-room initiatives we have targeted over the last two decades through SIGN. God has been faithful and I am very grateful for your sustaining prayers.

May the effort represented by your prayers and these posts be as a sweet fragrance to the Lord, along with serving as a foundation and catalyst toward the goal described by Paul:
"In attaining to the oneness of the faith and the full knowledge of the Son of God, that we might arrive at mature manhood, the measure of the stature of the fullness and the completeness found in Him." Ephesians 4:13.

UNBROKEN

(c) Morris E. Ruddick

"Why do the nations rage and the people plot in vain? For the kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying 'let us break their bonds in pieces and cast away their cords from us.'"Psalm 2:1-3

While having a great love for understanding the times and uncovering the depths in the knowledge of God, I continue to be astounded by the power implicit in the simple things that God has given us to confound the wise.

Few books I have read in recent years have had more of an impact on me than "Unbroken" by Laura Hillenbrand. It recounts the story of an Olympian runner, Louie Zamperini, who died earlier this year at the age of 97. The story is uncommonly real and well-presented, written by the author of "Seabiscuit."

There's a message this story carries that relates to the times we have entered.

Having distinguished himself in the 1936 Olympics, Mr. Zamperini's chances at the gold were circumvented with the start of WWII. He became a bombardier and after many exploits in combat, was in a plane crash and lost in the Pacific. After an amazing survival story of 47 days drifting on a raft, he wound up as a Japanese POW.

During his captivity, he lived through two years of brutality and deprivation, many times believing, with cause, that he would not live another day. All this pervaded his upbeat, disciplined and resolute personality. Following the war, these experiences began severely short-circuiting his future, until his amazing encounter with the Lord.

During the sixties, for two years I served as a combat Marine. During the many battles I experienced, I had more times than I care to recount, that I thought I was going to die. Not unlike Mr. Zamperini, I experienced a defiance in the face of death. These deeply personal experiences became the very bedrock by which the Lord revealed Himself to me, leading to my commitment as a Christian.

Those experiences also have become common ground with a number of the Christian leaders I work with in Vietnam who have spent two to three years in hard-labor prison camps for their faith, with far too many instances in not knowing if they would see the light of the next day, yet facing the ultimate test without wavering. Not unlike the Pacific POW camps of WWII, there were many who did not survive these internments.

In reading Mr. Zamperini's story, I found myself re-living many of my own close encounters with death. Despite a number of decorations for my actions in combat, I've never had the desire to share these "war stories" with others. There's something very personal, to a degree almost sacred, about encounters that cheat death.

The story of this extremely disciplined Olympian is emotional, as it relates the struggles he had upon his return to "normal" life after the war. Despite being a war hero, he employed masks to deal with the grip he was losing on regaining what he once had.

While understanding his trauma, I've personally never related very well to masks, phoniness or the superficial. My tolerance for these factors in Christian settings is even less because, in my view of things, they not only fall far short of God's standard and the expectations He has for those called by His name, they are snares that distance us from Him. Reality is defined by the One who created it. His reality is the standard to bring individuals and societies into the balance and healing sought by all.

Unreserved, God-focused commitment and disciplined, ongoing spiritual maintenance will nip even the most traumatic experiences in the bud. On the other hand, masks are what perpetuate and keep emotional baggage fed and alive.

However, there is another graphic illustration that the Zamperini story portrays. It is the picture of the systematic stripping of dignity, honor and hope that took place during his time in the prisoner of war camp. It is an apt picture of the evil behind the world's system, bent on squeezing the life out of the multitudes and separating people from the goodness of God.

Distortions of Reality

This dynamic triggers the unchecked illusions and distortions that operate all around us. It feeds into the aims of evil which wields the power of destruction and death. We see its operation in seats of power -- as its cohorts attempt to define good as evil, and evil as good. Psalm 94:20 describes a throne of destruction which devises evil by law, which has absolutely no correlation to the goodness of God.

Those enticed with and who toy with special powers of death are bonding with and then establishing alliances with death. Death is at the very core of darkness. It is the last enemy to be abolished according to the Apostle Paul (1 Cor 15:26).

Jesus said even the very elect would face deceptive entrapments. The subtlety is that life and death are in the power of the tongue, with enticements that misuse the anointing and distort God's reality and power. The prophet wrote that: "Through deceit they refuse to know Me" (Jer 9:6). Only God, can remedy the entangled webs of evil designed to ensnare and bring down even those of an upright heart. Humility and fear of the Lord are the antidotes. Whereas pride and the ambitious pursuit of power will corrupt, the truly humble and contrite of spirit will never be turned away.

In short, as individuals known by His name, we are called to bless and not curse, to give life and not death. Jesus instructed us to bless even our enemies. The calling of Abraham explains that this is God's purview alone. Indeed, God will bless those who bless His own, but will also curse those who try to curse those known by His name.

Defilements

Distortions of reality and alliances with death have resulted in a world rampant with spiritual defilements. Death has embedded itself in the cultures of the world and the traditions of men, albeit superstitions, to the extent that they are accepted and embraced as normal. Ever see a thirteenth floor on elevator stops of a tall building?

What took place in the Japanese POW camp with Louie Zamperini is the manifestation of evil resident in the world. It parallels what those I've already mentioned, in being persecuted for their faith have gone through. The evil one specializes in pathways of defilements that lead to brokenness.

King David, after his fall, understood the dynamics that God's people have to contend with. They involve not only sin, but the defilements, created by the cultural iniquities, which combine in their intent to divert and crush the progress of good. In Psalm 51 David cries out to the Lord to be washed from those iniquities which culturally crowd the righteous as snares and triggers of sin. Many have been the times I have returned from ministering and penetrating the lairs of darkness only to feel an overwhelming need for a "spiritual bath." These are the times in which priority needs to be given to getting alone with the Lord with immersions in His presence and truth.

God's presence and truth cleanses and restores. Yet this process demands a right heart, a heart of humility and a strong, continual dose of the fear of the Lord.
"Wash me from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. You desire truth in the inward parts and in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean.... Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation. Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners shall be converted to You." From Psalm 51:2-13

Response to the Counterfeit: The Design by God

The story of Louie Zamperini is a story of the colliding -- between a life held in the bondage of masks and the superficial -- and the reality that only God can provide and bring into wholeness. It is a story of facing your fears. It is a story of becoming a true God-pleaser and embracing reality.

We live in a world of illusions. What we refer to as smoking mirrors is employed at the highest levels. The perception has been confused with the reality. Masks define identities. Superficialities drive priorities. Leadership is mistaken for who is in charge.

Jesus came to reset the way we look at things. He came to unmask the counterfeit. He unveiled the realities, which redefine the priorities. There's a major difference between brokenness and humility. Humility is the process of taking the steps to remove the masks and face the fears that the evil one uses in paths to brokenness.

In this upside-down world, the illusions warp true reality with the distortions intent on seducing the multitudes into pathways of destruction. Yet, from the beginning, God has had a design for His people.

Jesus described this design and raised the bar for what God gave to His covenant people. At its core is the purpose, which God gave to Abraham in calling him out of the world, that he might "be blessed to be a blessing." The model of economic community with God at helm also came from the way Abraham and then Moses organized community, which in effect, is as a light shining on a hill. He provided the foundations to operate as a culture within a culture, one that makes a difference.

God's design defines the pathway defining our lives. It is more, much more, than just the idle talk and the clutter which overshadows the world around us. This design is a paradox to the way the world thinks and perceives the realities. It is the way of the Kingdom.

God's design is the pathway that leads to Life, not a counterfeit or distorted illusion, but rather true Life. Jesus made it plain that it is a narrow and difficult path. There is a simplicity in entering its gates, but a steadfast resolve that is needed to overcome the seductive hurdles to maintain the focus and stay the course.

The reality is that within the world in which we live, what we are traversing is a narrow corridor between Life and death. Yet death and the fear of death, when the path is maintained according to God's design, has no grip on us. The Kingdom is distinguished by a simple strategy: the application of righteous power in corrupt settings.

Those who have been delivered from the occult recognize the realities between Life and death. At the crux of the occult are flirtations and manipulations with death. Evil is a magnet for death. So is pride, especially the pride behind quests for power. Destruction and poverty result when death rules.
"Can a throne of destruction be allied with Thee, one which devises mischief by decree? They band themselves together against the life of the righteous, and condemn the innocent to death." Ps 94:20-21

The story of Louie Zamperini illustrates how people, believers and non-believers alike, put God in a box. They establish their own order of illusions. They mask the realities of life with superficialities. Then there comes a time when the order established by human limitations falls short. Surviving both the plane crash and then the 47 days on a raft was a jolt to the former priorities of Mr. Zamperini's life.

The Fear of the Lord

Whether brokenness is the result of blindness created by prideful superficialities or circumstances beyond ones control or both, the Lord embraces such ones, who if they maintain the focus of genuine humility, He will then make whole.
"By humility and fear of the Lord are riches and honor and life." Prov 22:4

The combination of humility and true fear of the Lord equip us to face the ultimate tests. Those I've worked with in Vietnam who were imprisoned for their faith understand this reality. For that reason, and having been refined by such fires, they are steadfast and unbroken. Yet without the dimensions of the fear of the Lord and genuine humility, the pathway leads to simply becoming "full of ourselves."

A consciousness of God's presence is evident among these former "prisoners for the Lord." It is tangible. So likewise is the anointing that defines their perspectives and priorities. It is not surprising that the fruit from their efforts represent the seedbeds for revival and the sparks that penetrate the darkness that is changing the spiritual climates of their domains.

The fear of the Lord is at the crux of being whole. Alternately, at the core of stumbling within Christian circles, even leadership circles, are the masks and superficialities that distort true identities and open the door for the defilements designed to short-circuit God-designed destinies

The psalmist got it. He wrote in Psalm 23 that the Lord restores our soul and leads us in a pathway of righteousness. Then even when we walk through the valley of the shadow of death that we will fear no evil -- for the Lord will be with us. The Lord will comfort us. He will also prepare a table before us in the presence of our enemies. In short, we can expect the demonstration of God's reality on our behalf, even as darkness covers the earth. It is then that we will shine the brightest.
"Arise, shine for your light has come and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For darkness will cover the earth and deep darkness the people. But the Lord will arise over you and His glory will be seen upon you. Gentiles shall come to your light and kings to the brightness of your rising." Isaiah 60:1-3

Morris Ruddick - THE MODEL IN MOTION

THE MODEL IN MOTION
(c) Morris E. Ruddick

"For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you
no greater burden than these necessary things." Acts 15:28

The world's system is being shaken. Tenets of leadership, once accepted
as the standard, are in question. The response of God's chosen to this
shaking; the response needed to impact nations requires more than
what can be done in the natural. It demands a community-level response
and a higher level of leadership.

The response needed is to foundationally restore God's order. The response
will flow from the ancient model of God-centered entrepreneurial
community being fully set in motion by a people mobilized in God.

Within Christendom today are remarkable models to mobilize churches.
Likewise, the last generation has seen incredible models that have
mobilized missionaries. Now, we have entered the time of mobilizing
the marketplace. All this has been good.

However, in each of these cases there's been a serious blind-spot. That
blind-spot is created from the premise that if you are successful in one area,
then success will follow in other areas. The blind-spot has also held that
if you just employ a successful Western church model, then by doing it
enough it will transform society. Not so.

Church growth should be the by-product rather than the goal. Mobilizing
missionaries should be the by-product rather than the goal. Spiritual
success first pivots on changing the spiritual climate to the level that it
impacts a culture. It is a process. It is a process that emanates from
God's order. At its crux is the restoration of the biblical model that fully
embraces the interactive dynamic of the spiritual, the economic and
community, all operating in concert.

Getting the Model Right

The greatest heroes of faith were catalysts for change; they countered
worldly standards with God's wisdom to bring strategic-level change. In
each case, they heard from God, and harnessed strategies from the
Spirit of the Lord that shifted the spiritual climate and impacted the
culture. In the cases of Joseph and Daniel, against all odds, this shift
was done from within the world's system.

In the cases of Moses and David, the standard of God's order was
elevated and the shift began as the community was mobilized to
respond. In all of these cases, the catalyst was a unique brand of
leadership; leadership by anointing.

Getting the Priorities Right

Let's tell it like it is. The marketplace movement is attracting many
who operate on the unspoken premise that if you just throw enough
money at something, then the result will have God's blessing and bring
the needed restoration. Some assert that if we just plant Western
churchianity around the world, it will solve all the problems.

Yet, despite all the mobilization of recent years, both the West and
the world seem to have more problems now than ever. America's
leadership is divided and the nation is teetering economically.
Haiti has had a lot of money thrown at it; ten times more in aid than
it has had investment. Still it remains for the most part under the
bondage of corruption. Nigeria, considered one of the most evangelized
nations in the world remains one of the most lawless and impoverished.
Churches there are escape-hatches from the moral degradation that
reigns around them. There indeed needs to be something more that
brings genuine change.

Discerning God's Big-Picture

As a whole, worldly success and power has blinded us to the urgent
need for God's ancient model. It is a spiritual shortsightedness that
tends to result in our majoring in minors and getting the priorities wrong.
Jesus told the Pharisees that they strained gnats and swallowed camels.
In all their religious priorities, they missed the forest for the trees.

Jesus warned that in the latter days, indeed the days we have entered,
that we should be wary of false prophets and false messiahs who misguide.
We should beware of modern-day Pharisees with myopic mind-sets, whose
leadership causes us to miss the big-picture and the model drawn from
the ancient paths.

There is a need to restore and a need to revive things spiritually. It involves
more than mobilizing people and organizations; it involves the release of a
people who, as a community, will demonstrate the reality of God. That's at
the foundation of revival, when it is the Spirit of the Lord truly orchestrating
things, rather than man.

It goes back to the opening scripture and the words of the Apostle James
as he set in order the priority of the "necessary things" for the early church.
Over the centuries, God's ways through His people has had a pattern. It's
been the simple things that have confounded the wise, as the Lord has
used ordinary people to do extraordinary things to break the mold; the mold
of the bondage of corruption. That takes God being at the helm of decisions.
That means leaders and a community who truly hear His voice.

The Model in Motion

Something very significant happens when a community begins operating
in the way that God intended. King David's leadership exemplified this.
When Israel and Judah came together it brought about the dynamic of
dominion. That is God's original mandate. The rest of the world stood in
awe, because it was recognized that God was with them. That wasn't all.
With dominion established, it led them into a time of great peace and
prosperity reflective of God's order restored.

Historically, when Jews have been a part of another culture, the dynamic
of community has proven to make them stand out and shine as
disproportionate achievers and contributors. Only one other ethnic
group prospers so well when operating as a culture within a culture
and that is the Chinese.

Yet, the strategy is not just community, but business-based community.
When God is at the helm, it flourishes even more. In a handful of Asian
nations, the Chinese also represent the foundation of Christians. Their
employment of Christian community far excels anything even approached
by Christians in the West.

Years ago in the West, an attempt was made to replicate community
parameters in corporate settings. A book was written about it in the 1
950s titled "The Organization Man." It fell short as a culture driven by
conformity and blind-obedience.

God's Strategy of Community

However, God's dynamic of community is very different. It is one of service
and cooperation. It is one of nurturing and fostering opportunity for others.
It is a safe-place with God at the center with His people sharing a common
purpose as they apply their diversity of gifts for the common good. It is a
light shining in the darkness because God is there. It is God's people
operating beyond that place of human effort turning the ordinary into the
extraordinary; an assembly of those known by His name operating in the
exponential in making a difference by enabling others. It is the group
setting through which God's Kingdom rule is established.

God's strategy of community pivots on being a trust society; with influence
extended to those around them. It ignites a God-centered middle class
bearing the potential for growth and increase. Since God has had a people,
in civilizations without a middle class, God has sent the Jewish people in
to serve this function as merchants and bankers and people of business.
In these roles, they have become a people of influence and change, as
they have served as advisors to kings, rulers and leaders in governments
and businesses with the wisdom of God's standards.

When God's people begin truly operating in community; when the model
is set in motion, it is then that God's full strategies begin to be released.
This has quite often been in conjunction with the pressures of operating
against impossible odds. Yet, under pressure, this has been how God's
strategy operates at its best: Light against darkness. Again and again,
the pressures have galvanized and melded the role of community and the
role of community leaders.

The model that began with Abraham, of God-centered, entrepreneurial
community works. It works against the odds.

Alignment for the Strategy

When priorities became confused in the first century church, the
Apostle James decreed the need to give focus to the "necessary things."
So it is today, that many with good intentions have been majoring in
minor things. Priorities have been approached in reverse. There is a
need for the alignment of God's strategy.

We've entered a time when the roots to the faith that were expunged by
Constantine in the fourth century are being restored and released, with
great impact. It's through the simple things that God is confounding the
"wise." The results are breaking the mold; and building a path into the
restoration of God's order and the fulfillment of His purposes for His creation.

Biblical community is the necessary ingredient to embrace the strategies
needed for the times we have entered: to prepare and to be prepared as
the world hits the disconnects of its paradigms.

Disruptive Strategies and Anointings

That means preparing for change that will challenge the old order of things.
It is change that pivots not on heightened religious activity that marked the
Pharisees, but rather on God's order for a society, with the foundational
truths outlined in the Torah. It is change that disrupts the counterfeits
and establishes God's Kingdom dynamic.

Within business terms, a disruptive technology or innovation creates a
new market or value structure. It eventually goes on to disrupt an existing
market or value structure, often displacing what may have been a technology
standard. It typically happens unexpectedly, first by innovations designed
for a different set of consumers in a new market and later by lowering
prices in an existing market.

Not unlike the way that personal computers established a whole new order
of how business is conducted, God's people historically have employed
disruptive strategies in the process of restoring God's order. Leadership-wise,
the heroes of faith operated with disruptive anointings. They were change
artists establishing a new standard and order of things; God's order.

God's disruptive strategies and anointings are explosive. There are three
age-old, big-picture targets for God's disruptive strategies within the
marketplace today: economic, cultural and power. These are the
"necessary things."

Economic. Economically, God has had the original economy. It is based
on the Lord, both individually and community-wise being the Senior Partner
and leading the way.

Cultural. Culturally, we have the examples of both Joseph and Daniel, who
despite the extreme adversity and culture of sorcery, changed the spiritual
climate of pagan nations and established God's order to harness their
resources for God's purposes.

Power. Power-wise, Jesus spent His earthly ministry raising the bar and
endowing a small group of followers with the keys to employ righteous
power in a corrupt world.

We've entered a new season. It is a time to be prepared. It is a time to
prepare and be poised to put the model in motion.

It is a time for leaders to see beyond the blind-spots and counterfeits;
and get God's big-picture perspective right. It is a time to reach beyond
our false illusions and start applying this age-old, three-fold model of the
spiritual, community and the economic working together.

It is a time to be alert for where believers, communities large enough to
be a culture within a culture, control the resources with the model in motion.
It is a time to be alert for alliances with modern-day pharaohs who seek
the prophetic wisdom and model that modern-day Josephs can apply to
their resources. Of the top 100 world economies, 53 are corporations.
There's a world whose hopeless condition is looking for the REALITY of
God operating, within a people, who can truly demonstrate it.

Before us is the change, the paradigm shift of all ages. The need is
for those who will hear God's voice and obey; mobilized communities
who will apply their disruptive anointings and set the model in motion.
The need is for prophetic stewards, who like Joseph, are blessed to
be a blessing; who wield the authority of the anointing to lead the
displacement of the bondages economically, culturally and power-wise;
and with a focus on the necessary things, to restore God's order.

"And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us, and establish
the work of our hands for us; yes, establish the work of our hands."
Psalm 90:17
