UK Blocks Adoption of ‘Unhelpful’ Paris Conference Declaration - VIEWPOINT ISRAEL

UK Blocks Adoption of ‘Unhelpful’ Paris Conference Declaration

After helping the UN Security Council pass a harsh anti-Israel resolution last month, Britain last week turned the tables and blocked the European Union from officially adopting the final declaration from Sunday’s Middle East peace conference in Paris.
London spurned the conference by sending three low-level diplomats, while the other 70 or so nations attending all sent heads of state or foreign ministers.
British officials noted the ridiculous timing of the conference, just days ahead of the inauguration of a new US administration that has very different views on the Israel-Palestinian conflict than its predecessor. They also pointed out that Israel and the Palestinians weren’t even at the conference, and yet everyone there agreed that peace can only be achieved through bilateral negotiations.
London further stressed that the most likely outcome of the conference would be a hardening of Palestinian positions, putting true peace even further out of reach.
At the end of the confab, both the UK and Australia refused to sign the final declaration, which, as usual, placed the lion’s share of the blame for the lack of peace on Jewish settlement activity.
No matter. The European Union still intended to adopt the declaration. But London had other plans.
At the EU’s Foreign Affairs Council on Monday, the UK again refused to endorse the document, and convinced several eastern European nations to do the same. The council can only officially adopt such resolutions with a unanimous vote.

Defender Of Israel: Palestinian Woman Becomes Christian - VIEWPOINT ISRAEL Dec. 16, 2016

Palestinian Woman Becomes Christian, Defends IsraelDefender Of Israel: Palestinian Woman Becomes Christian

Sandra Solomon is the niece of Saher Habash, one of the founders of the ruling Palestinian party Fatah, as well as a leader in the Second Intifada campaign of terror. Sandra was born in Ramallah and later lived in Saudi Arabia. In both places, Solomon was raised to seek violence against Jews. As a child, she was taught to “hate the Jews, hail Hitler, and praise the Holocaust,” Solomon said in an interview with Israel’s Channel 2 News.

Speaking at an event in Canada, where she now resides, Solomon confirmed why genuine peace between Israel and the Palestinians is slipping further out of reach. “They blame Jews for everything. They rejoice in the killing of Jews. There is no respect, no love, no peace; just anger and hatred towards others,” Sandra stated.
As a young woman, Solomon quickly became acquainted with the harshness of Islamic Sharia Law, and was disturbed over the utter intolerance and hatred for all non-Muslims, not just the Jewish people.
Some time after moving to Canada, she converted to Christianity and became an ardent defender of the reborn Jewish state. “The State of Israel was created not to be erased, but to stay,” she said.
Asked by interviewers if she does not fear for her life given that most of her family is calling for her blood, Solomon replied: “I stand behind what I say and I will tell the truth even if it leads to my death one day. I will at least know that I’ve had the honor to die for the truth.”

Israeli Muslims Donate Wood To Rebuild Haifa Synagogue - VIEWPOINT ISRAEL

Israeli Muslims donate wood to rebuild Haifa synagogueIsraeli Muslims Donate Wood To Rebuild Haifa Synagogue

The Masorti Foundation for Conservative Judaism in Israel put out an international call for donations to help the Moriah synagogue rebuild from the ashes after the recent week-long wildfires that raged across Israel. However, it was two small, local initiatives that put the damaged synagogue into the headlines.
On November 30, a group of worshipers from all faiths attended a special prayer service for the new Hebrew month of Kislev and to show support for the rebuilding of the community. A local member posted Facebook photos of the service. One of the photos showed 20 saplings donated by a man from Baqa al-Gharbiyye, an Arab city in the Haifa district, as a gift to replace the trees in the courtyard that had been burned by the fires.
And he was not the only one bearing gifts! Two Muslim tradesmen from Umm al-Fahm, another Arab town in the Haifa district, also came to the service and were greeted with great applause for their contribution of wood panels to the synagogue.
The Moriah synagogue, the oldest Conservative synagogue in Israel, suffered extensive damage in the fires. The whole second floor and roof of the building were destroyed, including their beit midrash, all of their books, their education wing, and their youth club.

At first, the Moriah community turned to a Jewish carpenter for help. He agreed to work pro-bono, but asked that the synagogue pay for the wood. He went to get a price quote from wood suppliers Walid abu-Ahmed and Ziad Yunis. When they heard that the previous tables were destroyed in the fires that devastated 13 neighborhoods in Haifa, they chose to donate enough wood for 10 tables.
“I had tears in my eyes when I heard what was happening,” said Rabbi Dov Hiyon, who heads the Moriah community. “It was so emotional to hear that Muslims were asking to donate to a Jewish synagogue. I’ve invited them to evening prayers to personally thank them.”
“I decided to help and not receive any payment,” abu-Ahmed stated. “Jews and Arabs live together in Haifa, and there is no discrimination. We must continue with this coexistence and promote peace.”

Lawmakers To Challenge Obama’s Limit On Defense Aid For Israel - VIEWPOINT ISRAEL

Lawmakers To Challenge Obama’s Limit On Defense Aid For Israel

Democratic and Republican lawmakers are vowing to challenge a limit on U.S. defense aid for Israel that President Barack Obama included in the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding between the two nations.
The agreement, that was reached in September, guarantees Israel $38 billion in aid over 10 years, but it also states that if Congress increases the aid, Israel is obliged to return the extra funds. U.S. Reps. Paul Gosar (R-Texas), Randy Weber (R-Ariz.), and Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.) said at the Agudath Israel of America’s annual legislative luncheon in New York City that the restriction is “unconstitutional” because it would interfere with the ability of Congress to fulfill its mandate as a co-equal branch of the federal government. Engel vowed to fight every step of the way, to bring about the revocation of the aid limit.
U.S. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries stated that the aid restriction “conflicts with the Constitution in spirit if not in letter” because Congress “has a right to respond to emergency situations, and we will not give up that right.” As an example, Jeffries said that if Israel is attacked, it might require extra aid to defend itself. Congress, he said, should be able to take action in such circumstances.

More Jewish Democrats Oppose Ellison

Another topic addressed was the bid by Minnesota’s U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison for the chairmanship of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). A number of Jewish leaders have expressed concern that Ellison would turn the Democratic Party away from Israel. Speaking at the Agudath Israel event, two more Jewish Democratic officeholders stated their opposition to Ellison’s candidacy.
The Minnesota lawmaker has come under fire for his past association with Nation of Islam movement leader Louis Farrakhan, publicly claiming in 1995 that Farrakhan “is not an anti-Semite.” Additionally, Ellison has urged increased U.S. pressure on Israel and has voted against funding Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system.
New York’s Rep. Engel, the ranking Democratic member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, states that he opposes Ellison’s candidacy because “we need a full-time chairman for the DNC, not a member of Congress who would only be able to devote part of his time to the job.” Asked whether his opposition to Ellison is also based on Ellison’s record concerning Israel, Engel replied, “My positions on Israel are well known, my focus is on having a full-time chair for the party.”
New York State Assemblyman David Weprin said that he also opposes Ellison’s bid “because of the importance of having someone who can devote himself full-time to rebuilding the Democratic Party.” Weprin said he is “aware of the statements about Israel that have been attributed to Ellison, and if they are accurate, that would be a cause for concern.” Weprin added that he is “troubled by the positions that Sen. Bernie Sanders took on Israel, and I know that Sanders nominated Congressman Ellison to the Democratic convention resolutions committee in order to try to get those positions in the platform.”
The statements by Engel and Weprin against Ellison’s possible party chairmanship echo the sentiments of New York State Assemblyman Dov Hikind who stated that “if Israel has to depend on support from the Ellison’s of the world, it would be in serious trouble.”

Why Do So Many Christians Love a Jewish Israel? - VIEWPOINT ISRAEL

Why Do So Many Christians Love a Jewish Israel?

After Israel was miraculously restored from oblivion in the last century, Jews began to return from every nation to their ancient homeland. But they weren’t the only ones rushing to set foot on that storied land. Christians began flocking to the Holy Land as well.
At first, we came as tourists to visit the ancient churches and to walk where Jesus walked. Then God awakened us to see this reborn nation was a fulfillment of biblical prophecy. But as the years passed, God showed us something else. We saw His everlasting love and compassion for His people who had suffered so much for so long, often at the hands of those who called themselves Christians. We began to understand and love the people as much as we did the Holy Land. We came as friends.
Over the last 40 years or so, a number of ministries have arisen to help Christians bless the nation of Israel in many ways. From bringing Christians around the world to march the streets of Jerusalem waving banners of encouragement, to providing much needed physical and prayer support, to standing up for the nation in political forums, to encouraging tourism, and even more recently, bringing volunteers to help harvest their crops, Christians have taken an active role in Israel.
Through it all, I believe God has been trying to show Jewish Israel, and us, how much He loves the descendants of Abraham and how He has never forsaken them, even though it may have looked like it for a time. Isaiah anticipated this time of restoration when he wrote, “For a brief moment I forsook you, but with great compassion, I will gather you. In an outburst of anger I hid My face from you for a moment, but with everlasting loving kindness, I will have compassion on you, says the LORD your Redeemer” (Isaiah 54:7-8).
In considering all this, I realized this Christian attraction for Israel is not diminishing, but growing ever stronger. So you have to wonder, where is it all going? Is it, as many believe, just going to go away when we fly away in a secret rapture before the reign of Antichrist? If so, I’d think that would reveal a deep shallowness in our re-commitment to the Jews to “never leave you again,” as most of Christianity did during the Holocaust.
Or…does God have something else in mind for Israel and all the members of Messiah’s body ready to receive it? I believe He does! And I believe He put it all in the Bible in advance so we’d know what was coming. It was just hidden. As Yeshua told us, “Nothing is hidden, except to be revealed” (Mark 4:22).
That’s why I’m convinced by the Bible prophesies there will be a miraculous migration of hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of believers streaming into the land one day. But this time we will not be coming as tourists, or pilgrims, or even as “Christians.” We will come, I believe, as mishpochah (Hebrew for “family”), the redeemed of the Lord.
How many times have we sung in our churches this prophecy by Isaiah, understanding it pertained to all of us who are in Messiah?
“Therefore, the redeemed of the Lord shall return,
and come with singing unto Zion,
and everlasting joy shall be upon their heads.
They shall obtain,
gladness and joy,
and sorrow, and sighing, shall flee away. ” (Isaiah 51:11).
Where did we think Zion was? In Heaven? No, Isaiah was prophesying of a worldwide gathering of God’s scattered children returning to Israel.
Some believe Isaiah’s prophecy was fulfilled by the recent Jewish return to Israel. But Isaiah clearly defined these happy souls as “the redeemed, or ransomed, of the Lord.” And as Scripture tells us, it is only those in the Messiah who have been redeemed ”from the Law” and “your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers” (Galatians 3:13;1 Peter 1:18). The Jewish nation has yet to experience that spiritual redemption.
Remember, also, how the high priest, Caiaphas, in plotting to murder Yeshua declared it was better that this man should die “so that the whole nation not perish?” John then commented that Caiaphas had unwittingly prophesied the truth that one man has to die for the sins of the Jewish nation. John then added, “And not just for the nation only, but in order that he might also gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad” (John 11:52).
Who are these “children of God scattered abroad?” Clearly Yeshua was speaking about the “Gentiles” who would hear the Gospel and become sons of God. The ones he “purchased for God with his blood, men from every tribe and tongue and people and nation” (Revelations 5:9)
It’s been two thousand years since the Gospel net was cast forth from Jerusalem upon the nation’s shores. But God said a day would come when that net would be full. And then something new would begin. As Paul put it, “A partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.” Then God would turn and display the same mercy to Jews as He showed us, and “thus all Israel will be saved” (Romans 11:25-26).
All the signs indicate that time has come. And for me, nothing testifies louder to it than to see the depth of love an ever growing number of God-fearing “Christians” have for Israel and her people. So get ready. I believe a tsunami of God’s children will soon be gathered from the nations to be united with their Jewish brethren in Messiah to become “one flock with one shepherd” (John 10:16).
As the prophet wrote: “My servant David will be king over them, and they will all have one shepherd…and they will live on the land that I gave to Jacob My servant, in which your fathers lived” (Ezekiel 37:24-25).

Netanyahu On Aliyah Day: We Have Immigrants From Every Continent - VIEWPOINT ISRAEL

Netanyahu On Aliyah Day: We Have Immigrants From Every Continent
VIEWPOINT ISRAEL Nov. 18, 2016

Israel celebrated its first Aliyah Day with a ceremony at the International Convention Center in Jerusalem last Tuesday.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Immigrant Absorption Minister Sofa Landver, and Jewish Agency Chairman Natan Sharansky attended the ceremony.

In June, the Aliyah Day law was passed to recognize the importance of immigration to Israel and its development as a multicultural society. The law designated Aliyah Day as the seventh day of the Hebrew month of Heshvan, coinciding with the reading of the Lech Lecha Torah portion, which describes the divine commandment directing Abraham to go to the land of Israel.

“The democratic values of the Jewish state, our military might, our economic strength, our adherence to progress, our scientific and technological innovations, draw hundreds of new immigrants, each one of whom contributes to the bolstering of those values and strengths,” Netanyahu said at the ceremony. “We have immigrants here from every continent. They understand that Israel today is undergoing a major transformation, they see the stability and the prosperity, and it’s one of the reasons they aspire to intertwine their fate with ours.”

Landver, who had immigrated to Israel 37 years ago, said she is “proud and excited that for the first time, Israel is marking a day commemorating immigration to Israel.”

“All those immigrants, from the first wave of immigration to Israel to the fifth, from Operation Moses and Solomon to the new immigrants, they are all composed of the gathering of exiles called the state of Israel,” she said.

Video: Tomb Of Jesus Opened For First Time In Centuries - VIEWPOINT ISRAEL

Video: Tomb Of Jesus Opened For First Time In Centuries

Preservation experts have recently removed a marble slab covering what Christians believe to be Jesus’s tomb inside the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, exposing for the first time in centuries the original surface.
National Geographic says the marble slab was pulled back for 60 hours as part of a restoration and archaeological study. Scientists at the site said the tomb has been covered by marble cladding since at least 1555 CE, and most likely dating to an even earlier period.

“The marble covering of the tomb has been pulled back, and we were surprised by the amount of fill material beneath it,” said Fredrik Hiebert, archaeologist-in-residence at the National Geographic Society, a partner in the restoration project. “It will be a long scientific analysis, but we will finally be able to see the original rock surface on which, according to tradition, the body of Christ was laid.”
Hiebert said the conservation team first found fill material underneath the marble covering and then, upon digging deeper, came across another marble slab (the Holy bed) with a cross carved into its surface.
“I’m absolutely amazed. My knees are shaking a little bit because I wasn’t expecting this,” he is quoted as saying by National Geographic. “We can’t say 100 percent, but it appears to be visible proof that the location of the tomb has not shifted through time, something that scientists and historians have wondered for decades.”
This is a remarkable discovery and an exciting time for our world. Watch the video below of actual footage of inside the tomb!

Archaeological Evidence Shatters UNESCO Resolution - VIEWPOINT ISRAEL

Archaeological Evidence Shatters UNESCO Resolution

Archaeologists have uncovered remarkable evidence of the ancient Jewish connection to Jerusalem in the very same week that UNESCO and the Palestinian Authority (PA) were declaring that Jews have no ties to Jerusalem. Talk about the irony.
The latest discovery of a site where the Roman army assaulted Jewish forces guarding the outer walls of Jerusalem, during the Second Temple period, completely destroys the lies of the U.N. and the Palestinian Authority. The Romans were attacking Jewish forces during the Second Temple period, which according to the Palestinians, never existed. To top it off, there was no evidence of any Palestinian forces in the area at all. The newest findings confirm an account in the book, The Wars of the Jews, by the ancient historian Josephus Flavius in the first century C.E. Josephus had never mentioned Palestine or the Palestinians.
Every time archaeologists dig in Israel, another piece of the Palestinian propaganda crumbles. Earlier this year, scientists unearthed two ancient document seals in Jerusalem, dating to the late eighth century and early seventh century B.C.E. One of the seals bears the name of a man, “Sa’adyahu ben Shebnayahu.” The other is the name of a woman, “Elihanah bat Goel” (or Gael). These are Jewish names, not Arab, Muslim, or Palestinian. The archaeologists noted the construction of the names were “in typical Judean fashion for this time period.” This is more concise, indisputable evidence of a Jewish presence in the Land of Israel more than 1,400 years before Mohammed founded Islam.
Another important archaeological discovery earlier this year found the world’s oldest glass kilns, alongside a railroad track at the foot of Mount Carmel, near Haifa. Professor Ian Freestone, of London’s University College, a specialist in the identification of the chemical composition of glass, noted the kilns prove that “Israel constituted a production center on an international scale, hence its glassware was widely distributed throughout the Mediterranean and Europe.” The kilns date from around the year 400 C.E., some 300 hundred years after the Romans destroyed the Second Temple, killed an estimated 600,000 Jews, and destroyed more than 1,000 Jewish cities and towns.
Despite that devastation, the Jews were so attached to the Land of Israel that they rebuilt their society, to the point of serving as a glass-production center that exported its wares throughout the Roman Empire. One of the most famous discoveries in this field is an edict by the Roman emperor Diocletian, carved on a stone tablet, setting the prices for what he called “Judean glass.”
With the latest findings, including the two earlier this year, it is undeniable that UNESCO’s resolution is an utterly baffling solution and denial to Jewish claims in Jerusalem.
