Interview: ‘This Is Us’ Star Chrissy Metz Opens Up About
Personal Reason She Believes in Miracles
03-23-2019
Chrissy Metz didn’t need to be convinced miracles happen; she’s seen them in her own life. Her new role in the upcoming movie “Breakthrough” just confirmed what she already knew.
The “This Is Us” star has gone against the grain for as long as she can remember. As a teenager, she was in church when other kids were out doing different things.
Looking back, Metz admitted during an interview with Faithwire, her commitment to her faith didn’t always make her cool. But it was what she needed at a time in life when things just weren’t easy.
“I was looking for something,” she said, “a foundation that I always found.”

The 38-year-old celebrity would have to draw on that very faith in August 2017, when her mother, Denise Hodge, suffered a severe stroke.
Uncertain she would make it through the night, doctors told Metz to prepare for the worst. But the actor, who plays the lead role in the new movie, “Breakthrough,” which chronicles a real-life miracle not unlike her own experience, rallied her sisters and told them to begin praying for healing.
“We’re gonna be very specific about what we want and we’re gonna visualize it, we’re gonna collectively talk about it and pray about it and only think positive thoughts about it,” Metz recalled telling her family.
The following morning, the swelling in Hodge’s brain had gone down. She soon regained the ability to walk and now takes more than 10,000 steps every day. She’s also given up smoking and is “the healthiest she’s ever been,” Metz said.
“For her to come [out] on the other side of that is miraculous — unbelievable,” Metz remembered. “Even the doctors were like, ‘Huh? She’s walking? I don’t understand.’”
Hodge is now working on her communication skills after being diagnosed with aphasia. None of that has knocked Metz down, though, because she believes things really do happen for a reason.
“We think we’re going through this really tumultuous time and we can’t see the forest for the trees, but really, it’s gearing us up for what is intended for us,” she said.
And that’s exactly what happened. Not long after her mother’s incredible recovery, Metz was approached by film producer DeVon Franklin, known for movies like “Miracles from Heaven” and “Heaven Is for Real.”
From the very first meeting with Franklin, Metz knew she was meant to portray mother Joyce Smith in the film “Breakthrough,” which tells the real-life miraculous story of a Missouri boy named John Smith who slipped deep into an icy lake in January 2015.
Smith was declared dead for about an hour before he woke up in a turn of events doctors can only describe as a medical miracle.
“The same words, almost verbatim, I said to my mother’s doctors as Joyce said to John’s doctors,” Metz said. “I thought, ‘OK. If this isn’t a sign — if this isn’t supposed to be — let me know.’ But I’m pretty sure there’s a reason why that just happened to click.”
After starring in the film, her first leading role in a movie, Metz said her belief in miracles has only grown stronger. Learning Smith’s story just “confirmed what I already knew,” she explained.
“Breakthrough” premieres in theaters nationwide Wednesday, April 17. For tickets and more information about the movie, click here.

Watch My Interview on CTN for an Inside Look at Trump's Success With Evangelicals - STEVE STRANG CHARISMA MAGAZINE

U.S. President Donald Trump (YouTube/MSNBC)
I'm still promoting God and Donald Trump as I have opportunities. Recently, I went to the Christian Television Network in Fort Myers, Florida, and had a very interesting interview with Paul Lodato on his show, "Contending for the Faith."
The show will air at 6:30 p.m. EST on Friday, May 18. You can watch it on on Direct TV (channel 376), Dish Network (channel 267), Glory Star Satellite System (channel 117) or Thaicom 5 satellite, which covers 75 percent of the earth overseas. Or you can watch the interview from anywhere in the world on livestream at contendingforthefaith.tv or ctn10.com. C-SPAN will also record the event for a later program.
I believe you'll be interested in watching this 30-minute interview. I told Paul I wanted to send out a newsletter about it to encourage those who are interested to tune in.
Paul is an impressive young man. He was hired in 2005 as the youngest general manager of the Christian Television Network, which established Florida's first Christian station in 1979. When Paul took the helm of CTN Southwest Florida, formerly known as WRXY-TV, he brought with him a vision to produce and broadcast innovative and engaging programming that provides viewers a message of hope while entertaining and educating the entire family.
Not only did he found Southwest Florida Film and Television Academy in 2014, but he is also well-established in the business community. In 2008, GulfShore Business magazine named him one of its "40 Under 40" individuals who have distinguished themselves in Business & their communities. He's often invited to speak about media/business to civic, nonprofit and church organizations.
But Paul doesn't confine his passions to the TV and business realm. He and his wife, Ivette, founded Light of the World Ministries to awaken, empower and equip the body of Jesus Christ to discern truth and win the lost. He's also an accomplished preacher, singer and worship leader.
I hope you'll tune in to my interview with Paul tomorrow. If you know anyone who would be interested in watching the show, make sure to send this newsletter to them!

Joel C. Rosenberg's Blog: How serious is the ISIS threat to Jordan? Watch a new “60 Minutes” interview with King Abdullah.

How serious is the ISIS threat to Jordan? Watch a new “60 Minutes” interview with King Abdullah and go inside the “third world war” with the “outlaws” of Islam.

by joelcrosenberg
(Denver, Colorado) -- Last night, the CBS newsmagazine "60 Minutes" broadcast a must-see story they called, "The King." It was both an illuminating interview with, and an intriguing profile of, Jordan's King Abdullah II, the most loyal Arab ally the U.S. has.
I highly recommend you watch the 14 minute segment, or read the transcript.
It does an excellent job of taking you inside the world my wife, Lynn, and I entered last Spring when the king invited us to spend five days with him after reading my novel, The First Hostage. Just as we did, you'll go inside the palace and hear the king in his own words on the risk that the West is not taking this "third world war" with the "outlaws" of Islam seriously enough. You'll go, as we did, to the Syrian border, and go inside a refugee camp. You'll also learn much more about the clear and present danger the Islamic State, an imploding Syria, and 1.5 million refugees are posing to the Hashemite Kingdom.
In fact, as the segment begins, you'll see correspondent Scott Pelley joining the king on a live-fire military exercise near the Jordanian town of Zarqa in which Jordanian air and ground forces practice attacking an ISIS-controlled village with real bullets, bombs and missiles. This was something His Majesty invited Lynn and me to see with him, as well. It was absolutely fascinating and it really helped us understand more clearly how grave is the threat and yet how uniquely prepared the king is to defend his people.
Whoever emerges as the next President of the United States -- indeed, whoever wins the many House and Senate races underway across the country -- will need to make it a high priority to build a much stronger American alliance with Jordan, and to listen to our most faithful Sunni Arab ally....before it's too late.

Keeping Jordan's balance amid crisis

Terrorism. Civil war. A refugee crisis. Geopolitics. That's the situation in the Middle East and right on Jordan's doorstep. Scott Pelley interviews King Abdullah II
Scott Pelley, "60 Minutes," opening comments: The bombs in New York and New Jersey last week brought the specter of terror home, again. It seems no country is safe, but there is one that is beating fearsome odds. ISIS burned through Syria and Iraq until it hit a firewall, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The king, Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, is holding the front and sheltering millions of refugees despite his struggling economy, no oil wealth and precious little water. If the king can keep his balance, Jordan may prove that an Arab state can remain peaceful, tolerant, and modern. The arsonists torching the Middle East hope to see him fail.
-----------
Scott Pelley, script of the "60 Minutes" segment, "The King": This is not war. These are Jordanian forces sharpening their edge on a make-believe town. Some of their weapons are antique. Attack helicopters designed originally for Vietnam. Surplus-armored cars that they found online. Jordan can’t afford the arsenals of its neighbors. Skill is its advantage.  And, to hone it, they switched in training from blanks to live ammunition.
This is the soldier who ordered the switch. He’s the former head of Special Forces. He is Abdullah II, the king of Jordan.
Why live ammo we shouted? “Everyone uses blanks, makes no sense,” he yelled. There’s no sense in anything less than lethal because no king of Jordan has ever known peace.
Scott Pelley: This is the mosque that you built in honor of your father….
King Abdullah II: Yeah.
Abdullah became king in 1999 on the death of his father who ruled 47 years. We met the 54-year-old at his palace in Amman. He knows ISIS by its Arabic acronym, Daesh. But whatever you call it, he says the West doesn’t realize it’s in a Third World War.
King Abdullah II: I think this is the challenge that we’ve had over the past several years where people look at, you know, is it Iraq this year or Syria next year? Well, what about Libya? What about-- Boko Haram or Shabaab in Africa? We have to look at it from a global perspective.
Scott Pelley: All of these things need to be attacked at the same time. You can’t concentrate on Syria one year and then deal with Boko Haram in another?
King Abdullah II: Well, the prime example, it’s as you see certain military successes in Syria and Iraq against Daesh, the leadership, they’re telling their fighters either, “Don’t come to Syria or Iraq,” or moving their command structure to Libya. And so are we going to wait to get our act together to concentrate on Libya? And then, you know, do we wait a year or two to start helping the Africans deal with Boko Haram or Shabaab? So we’ve got to get ahead of the curve because they’re reacting much quicker than we are.
Scott Pelley: The American strategy in Syria and Iraq, as you know, is to use U.S. air power and to train forces on the ground to fight the battle. That has not worked. How do you move forward from here?
King Abdullah II: I think the problem with the West is they see a border between Syria and Iraq. Daesh does not. And this has been a frustration, I think, for a few of us in this area with our Western coalition partners, for several years. You know, the lawyers get into the act and say, “But there’s an international border.” And we say, “For God’s sake, ISIS doesn’t work that way.” So if you’re looking at it and want to play the game by your rules, knowing that the enemy doesn’t, we’re not going to win this....

Joel C. Rosenberg's Blog: Is an unprecedented spiritual revival happening in the Muslim World? My interview with CBN News.

Is an unprecedented spiritual revival happening in the Muslim World? My interview with CBN News.

by joelcrosenberg
"Is there an unprecedented spiritual revival taking place in the Islamic world?"
I was recently asked this question during an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network. The answer, remarkably, is a resounding "Yes." Millions of Muslims have, in fact, been leaving Islam and turning to faith in Jesus Christ. It's a dramatic trend I've been writing about on this blog (see hereherehere and here), and one that deserves more far more attention and detailed reporting.
Here are excerptsBest-selling author Joel Rosenberg recently spoke to CBN News about the incredible revival in the Muslim world. He cites a 19-page peer-reviewed study detailing the unprecedented wave of Muslims who are coming to Christ.
"From 1960 to 2010, the number of Muslims that have converted to faith in Jesus Christ has grown from fewer than 200,000 to some 10 million people" Rosenberg said, citing the study.
Rosenberg says the increase of Muslims converts to Christ could correlate to the turmoil in the Middle East.
"A lot as happened in the last fifty years in the Middle East. There's a lot of revolutions, war, turmoil, poverty, and what I think is happening, especially in the last 10-15 years, is many Muslims are deeply uncomfortable with the idea that ISIS, or Iran's leadership, or Assad are the type of people that represent Islam."
Many Muslims are finding their questions answered through dreams and visions about Christ.
"God is moving very powerfully using dreams and visions Muslims are having of the Man in white, of Jesus Himself," Rosenberg says.
But even though God is revealing Himself to Muslims through dreams and visions, Christians are still fundamental to fulfilling the Great Commission in the Muslim world.
"In a world of 1.6 billion Muslims, we have a long way to go. So if we are going to fulfill the Great Commission and reach every nation with the Gospel, we are going to have to pick up our game and be much more faithful," Rosenberg says...."This is a moment to be praying for them, that God would open their eyes."
