YEAR IN REVIEW: Schools Now Pushing Soft Porn for Tweens, Islam for All Kids

Editor's Note: 2015 was a big year in the church—and in the world. This week we're looking at some of the biggest stories of the year, selected based on feedback from our readers. Thanks for reading Charisma News this year and stay tuned as we continue expanding our coverage in 2016 to include more spiritual insights on the stories that matter most to you.

This article was published September 11th.
This new school year under expansive Common Core curriculum and standards testing, children will have data collected by the government about behavioral and mental aptitude, not their test scores. No matter what a governor or state school board might claim, if the state receives federal money in any form, it is participating in data collection without parental consent. Parents have the constitutional right to opt out their child by filling out this form.
And the Exodus Mandate is encouraging and providing resources for Christian parents to do more than opt out, but to exit the public school system altogether. Two excellent videos explain why.
When it comes to "sex education," minors are taught the benefits of nontraditional sex, beginning in the fifth grade, to the normalcy of their own "sexual fluidity" in the seventh grade and higher. Additionally, the U.S. Dept. of Education no longer defines parents as mothers or fathers, but as Parent 1, Parent 2 on student aid forms.
In New York City, teens via a tax funded smartphone app can locate free condoms within walking and free clinics where they can receive prescriptions and medication, and abortions and IUD implants—without parental consent. The Plan B pill is also distributed at public schools, again without parental knowledge.
Parents are protesting school board policies that require their heterosexual children to share a bathroom or locker room to accommodate another child's experimentation with "gender fluidity."
Incredibly disturbing, is a book on the fourth-grade reading list, It's Perfectly Normal, which illustrates in words and pictures soft-porn to 10-year-olds. Parents are not told which books are on the reading list and are not given an option to reject or pull their child out prior to being taught such perversion.
When it comes to parental rights, educators have expressed: children don't belong to their parents. In response, parents are now legally fighting the government over school choice, data collection and curriculum.
Most problematic about Common Core curriculum is its emphasis on teaching Islam, or rather a false version of it.
Yet—no Bible or prayer is allowed—but learning to pray in the direction of Mecca is. Children can't say or write the name of Jesus or talk about God, but they are taught the five pillars of Islam in addition to over 120 pages on Islam in the seventh grade alone. Parents have provided numerous examples, from vocabulary tests, to textbook language and pictures, to actual testimony of children feeling uncomfortable having to attend a school trip to a mosque and to kneeling and praying to something they reject. Once parents object and try to opt out, they are told their child would receive a failing grade and they as parents would not be allowed to enter their child's public school at a particular time.
Most important, Islam is not being taught within the context of world religions, but within the context of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) indoctrination. The Constitution isn't taught. The Bible isn't taught. But Muhammad is taught as an astute businessman—and that all Christians, Jews, and Muslims believe in the same God, they just call God by a different name.
What's essential for every parent and citizen to understand is that teaching Islam violates the First and 14th Amendments. The Common Core curriculum tests were created by Pearson Education, which has offices the in Qatar and Saudi Arabia, and funded by the Bill Gates Foundation as part of a global effort to indoctrinate children.
The question remains: Why does American education seem like it's being directed by largely Sunni Islamists and communist/marxist/fascists? And why are Americans putting up with it?

Should Christians Take Their Kids Out of Public Schools? CHARISMA NEWS

Should Christians Take Their Kids Out of Public Schools?

An evangelical Christian organization the Exodus Mandate is urging believers to pull their kids out of public school. Lt. Col. E. Ray Moore, founder of the Exodus Mandate, says that students left in school will soon be "indoctrinated" by leftist Common Core ideology.
"I describe the education of children in America (as) kind of like a prison," says Moore. "We're all in a prison. But this is a unique prison. The doors are wide open and they're not locked. And people can get up and walk out of that prison anytime they want."
Moore released a documentary this year titled Escaping Common Core: Setting Our Children Free, which he wrote the script for and produced. He says he hopes the documentary will convince Christians to abandon the public schools and return to a biblical model of homeschooling or Christian education.
"Sound theology teaches that the education of Christian children belongs to the family with assistance from the church, not the government," says Moore. "So we don't think under any circumstances Christians should have their children in godless pagan schools, which is what they've totally become."
Though Moore opposes public schools, he believes Common Core has made the situation even worse. Moore says he believes that, through this new set of standards, the elite are "intentionally dumbing down" the masses.
"Very bright kids are going to be able to go to elite schools, but the average population will be less and less able to function academically," says Moore. "The kids will not understand the great literature (or) the great books. They may not be able to do basic computation."
Furthermore, he says this indoctrination will limit opportunities for the next generation: "They're going to use this method to affect employment, so you won't be able to advance in employment unless you've been indoctrinated in their model. You won't be able to advance to university unless you've been indoctrinated in their model. So they're going to use it to control the population and create a bunch of 'sheeple' and herd them around. That way they control the culture and then they can put in the New World Order ... because people will be too dumbed down to be able to oppose it. So this is their plan. And it's pretty easy to show it, and that's what we do in the movie."
A spokeswoman for the Council of Chief State School Officers contradicted Moore's claim regarding curriculum.
"States led the development of the standards to ensure that every state in the nation has high academic standards to prepare students for college and careers," said the spokeswoman. "The Common Core State Standards are standards in English, language arts and mathematics. Standards are guidelines for what each child should know and be able to do by the end of each grade level. Standards do not determine the curriculum, or the lessons or specific tools teachers should use to help students reach the standards. Those decisions are left up to local school boards and educators at the local level."
Christians will need to exercise discretion when determining where they stand on this issue. Reviewing the standards for themselves could be a good place to start. More information about Common Core, including changes to existing curriculum, frequently asked questions and common myths, are available at this website.

School Officials Reconsidering Islamic Indoctrination in Schools

School Officials Reconsidering Islamic Indoctrination in Schools

Each and every victory in the fight against Islamic indoctrination in our public schools is significant. As we previously reported, students in Tennessee have been forced to recite the Islamic conversion creed, "There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is his messenger."
Tenets and fundamental beliefs of the Islamic faith were presented on study guides as facts.
This isn't education—it's indoctrination.
Yesterday, we heard from Tennessee State Board of Education Chairman B. Fielding Rolston on this issue. In an opinion editorial, Chairman Rolston revealed that the Tennessee State Board of Education is reviewing the state social studies standards—the very standards that govern the broad topics that must be taught.  This development was first reported by Tennessee Education Commissioner Candice McQueen in a September 8th memo.
Chairman Rolston clarified that the teaching of Islam in schools is a "local decision" and not one regulated by the state.
Local districts determine the curriculum and instruction, adapting what classroom instruction looks like for the students and teachers.
There are no State Board of Education requirements regarding the length of time to be devoted to any topic or guidelines on how that topic is taught in the classroom.
It is always a local decision how long a particular topic is covered in the classroom and the textbooks and curriculum employed.
The fact that curriculum is a local decision means that there is little oversight to what is actually being taught in schools, which in some cases, means that Islam is being taught over three weeks while other world religions  are skipped altogether. This has created a lot of concern for parents  in Tennessee and other states who have reached out to us at the ACLJ.
The outcry has bolstered the Tennessee State Board of Education's decision to dramatically shorten the timeline for reviewing the social studies standards. Chairman Rolston stated,
According to state policy, standards are reviewed at a minimum of every six years. This allows the board the flexibility it needs to consider a set of standards earlier when the members feel it is appropriate.
The members of the Tennessee State Board of Education will review the social studies standards two years earlier using the new Tennessee standards review process.
This is a significant victory. The blatantly unconstitutional promotion of Islam in schools has garnered substantial national attention forcing the Tennessee State Board of Education to review the standards earlier than planned.
The ACLJ is continuing the fight for all students' religious liberty, locally and nationally. We have been contacted by parents in states across America regarding the promotion of Islam in the curriculum of local schools, and our petition in support of ending this unconstitutional practice has been signed by over 160,000 individuals.
In response to questions and concerns we've received  from parents in Tennessee, we have sent over 146 "open records" requests to school superintendents—one request to every school district in Tennessee.
The ACLJ is requesting the information under the Tennessee Open Records Act.
We are asking  for information on exactly what students are learning about Islam and other world religions, how students are being taught this information, and what resources teachers are using.
We want to get to the bottom of this indoctrination. Where is it coming from and why is it happening?
In our letters, we are asking  for comprehensive records from school officials concerning the teaching of Islam. Specifically, among other requests, we asked that school officials provide us with:
Any and all records concerning assignments or activities in which students of [your school district] are asked and/or required to recite prayers and/or chants, speak in Arabic or other foreign language(s), or engage in any other speech and/or conduct associated with any world religion.
This is but one example of how the ACLJ is fighting for the constitutional rights of  students. We continue to be engaged on this issue both locally and nationally, and are committed to fighting for  students, one victory at a time.
