Life Beyond our Planet? What NASA Discovered in the Milky Way - CBN News

Life Beyond our Planet? What NASA Discovered in the Milky Way
06-20-2017
NASA continues its search for life beyond planet Earth, and astronomers released a list this week they believe will help in that search.
Scientists circulated a list of 4,034 objects they are 90 percent positive are planets orbiting other stars, The New York Times reported.
The new tally is the last and most dependable finding from a survey of a small area of the Milky Way galaxy by NASA's Kepler spacecraft -- a survey that took four years.
"The search for planets is the search for life," said Dr. Natalie Batalha, a Kepler mission scientist from NASA's Ames Research Center. "These results will form the basis for future searches for life."
"It's amazing, the things that Kepler has found," said Dr. Susan Thompson of the SETI Institute, who compiled the list. "It has shown us these terrestrial worlds, and we still have all of this work to do to really understand how common Earths are in the galaxy. I am really excited to see what people are going to do with this catalog."
The list will help scientists develop a powerful space telescope to be used in around 15 years, which could detect planet images orbiting stars.
Batalha said the findings include, for the first time, at least one planet that is very similar to Earth. It's known as Kepler Object of Interest or 'KOI 7711' and is only 30 percent wider than Earth. Its orbit is very close to one year.
"With this catalog, we are turning from individual planets to trying to understand the demographics of these worlds, which are similar to Earth," Thompson said.
Some of the new planet candidates are in the "Goldilocks" zones of their stars, The Times reports. That means the heat their stars give off is just right -- not too hot or cold -- for liquid water to exist.
Kepler scientists are trying to determine how far away these objects are.
The Kepler spacecraft is passing the torch to a new satellite, TESS, which stands for Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite. It launches next year.
TESS's mission involves examining large sections of the sky to find planets orbiting around the closest and brightest stars.

Scientists Discover Irrefutable Evidence Tower of Babel Was Real

Join us on our podcast each weekday for an interesting story, well told, from Charisma News. Listen at charismapodcastnetwork.com.

Smithsonian scientists can now confirm the Tower of Babel was indeed real.
Archaeologists recently discovered a tablet detailing the rise—and fall—of the tower that birthed multiple languages.
"I thought as a kid, this was just folklore or legend," says Jeff Allen of the World Monument fund. "A lot of people still think of it in biblical terms as some kind of legend, but they don't really know that it actually existed."

Scientists Capture New 'Pillars of Creation' from Space - CBN News

Scientists Capture New 'Pillars of Creation' from Space
CBN News 11-03-2016
These massive pillar-shaped cosmic structures may be 7,500 light-years away, but that does not dim their vivid beauty. They resemble the "Pillars of Creation" images taken by the Hubble Space Telescope nearly two decades ago in 1995.
This time, a team of researchers led by Anna McLeod, a doctoral student at ESO, captured the groundbreaking images with the Mutli Unit Spectroscopic Explorer, an instrument that can view cosmic bodies in 3-D.
The colorful pillars are tall clouds of dust and gas and are the perfect breeding ground for new stars. According to Discover Magazine, stars are born out of gas and dust pillars just like the ones captured in these new images.
Although the creation of new stars from gas clouds may be mesmerizing, it is closely followed by death. When new stars are born, the pressure and radiation is strong enough to rip apart the clouds they are created from.
The relationship between stars and their nebulous creators are complex and poorly understand. Researchers hope images like these will give them deeper understanding into the complexities of the universe.

SCIENTISTS SAY LIFE BEGINS AT CONCEPTION WITH A FLASH OF LIGHT - CASSY FIANO LIVE ACTION NEWS

Abortion advocates often claim as a defense of abortion that no one can really, truly define the moment life begins. Without knowing that, they say, there’s no real argument against abortion. Consider, for example, Melissa Harris-Perry’s insistence that life begins “whenever you feel like it does.” Obama famously said that the question of when life begins was above his pay grade. While the science of embryology has long since been settled, it’s still not good enough for abortion activists.
But a new scientific breakthrough might go a long way towards changing hearts and minds: scientists have been able to capture the moment life begins, with a bright flash of light as a new life is conceived…
Human life begins in bright flash of light as a sperm meets an egg, scientists have shown for the first time, after capturing the astonishing ‘fireworks’ on film.
An explosion of tiny sparks erupts from the egg at the exact moment of conception.
Scientists had seen the phenomenon occur in…animals but it is the first time is has been also shown to happen in humans.
The photos included were not of actual embryos being created — the scientists used a sperm enzyme to replicate the incredible moment that life begins.
Unfortunately, rather than using this discovery to defend life, scientists are using it to better discern which lives to destroy.
Researchers from Northwestern University, in Chicago, noticed that some of the eggs burn brighter than others, showing that they are more likely to produce a healthy baby.
… “This means if you can look at the zinc spark at the time of fertilization, you will know immediately which eggs are the good ones to transfer in in vitro fertilization.
“It’s a way of sorting egg quality in a way we’ve never been able to assess before. “All of biology starts at the time of fertilization, yet we know next to nothing about the events that occur in the human.”
So basically, the scientists are advocating for embryos to be created in order to facilitate IVF, and then destroyed if they don’t seem to be the healthiest, strongest embryos. The ones with a dimmer glow are deemed to be weaker, perhaps because of a genetic abnormality, and so after creating their unique lives, scientists plan to destroy them. This is even though science has also just confirmed that babies with abnormalities can self-correct while still in the womb. People who are undergoing IVF are often encouraged to destroy “defective” embryos, ending the lives that were just created, without giving the embryos any chance at all to grow and develop, and certainly without placing any value on the uniqueness of each human life.
As Secular Pro-Life pointed out:
[T]he article is refreshingly clear about conception being the point where life begins. There is no obfuscation. The very first line of the article is “Human life begins in bright flash of light as a sperm meets an egg, scientists have shown for the first time, after capturing the astonishing ‘fireworks’ on film.”
Which is why the rest of the article is so incredibly disturbing.
Agreed. It’s sad that such a life-affirming discovery is being used to further the culture of death.

Bad News for Atheists: Scientists Say Universe Shouldn’t Exist if Big Bang Is True

Bad News for Atheists:

Scientists Say Universe Shouldn’t Exist

if Big Bang Is True

According to research from King's College in London, the current model of the Big Bang predicts that our universe should not exist.
New research bears bad news for the Big Bang theory of the universe's origin.
Scientists at King's College in London have found that the current model of the Big Bang would have resulted in a universe that collapsed soon after its formation.
According to the researchers, the rapid cosmic expansion physicists would expect to see after the Big Bang would have caused a good bit of turbulence—a situation worsened, not helped, by the so-called "God particle."
This "God particle," the Higgs boson, should have crushed our universe, shifting it into a lower energy field in which collapse would have been inevitable.
While it is doubtful astrophysicists will discard the Big Bang model, it might suffer a worse fate: the death of a thousand qualifications.
"When we hear the term Big Bang theory, many people assume it was conceived in its present form and has remained unassailed ever since. In reality, it is a very pliable model," wrote Answers in Genesis scientist Dr. Danny Faulkner in September 2013. "Several assumed variables in the equations have been changed to make the numbers match new findings. Today's Big Bang model little resembles the one your grandfather learned, and it is likely to continue morphing."
Conversely, the idea of the "God particle" doesn't really present a problem for creationists. According to them, the Higgs particle tells us about how the universe works now—not necessarily how it originated.
"The Higgs boson particle probably does exist. God upholds the creation with the power of His word, and I think this is just a humanly seen manifestation of that," Faulker said.
Within the creationist system, it is not surprising that godless models of creation come up short. The universe not only requires an ultimate causeless cause, but a constant sustainer keeping it in existence.
Hebrews 1:3a states of Christ, "He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power."
