The Power of a Name

Judaism believes that one's name has an influence on their destiny as can be seen when God changed Avram's name to Avraham. In Hebrew, 'Av Ram' means father of Aram. Avram was born in the city of Aram Naharayim. His original name indicated that although he was a spiritual and intellectual giant, his leadership would be limited to those living within close proximity to him. When God added the  ה (hey) to Avram's name, his name became Avraham meaning "father of a multitude of nations." At this point in Avraham's life it became clear that his mission was not just to influence the people around him in Aram Naharayim, but to become a universal leader and to propagate the concept of monotheism around the world. According to God, a name is more than a series of letters. It holds deep meaning and spiritual powers.

Christians Must Unite Now Against Gay Bullies and Their Allies - MICHAEL BROWN CHARISMA NEWS

North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory

Christians Must Unite Now Against Gay Bullies and Their Allies

In the Line of Fire, by Michael Brown

The mayor of San Francisco has banned all publicly funded city employees from traveling to North Carolina.
The NFL is threatening to block Atlanta, Georgia, from hosting a future Super Bowl.
The NBA is threatening to relocate next year's All Star game from Charlotte, North Carolina, to another city.
Corporate giants like American Airlines and Hollywood giants like Disney are threatening action against Georgia and North Carolina.
Why?
It is because North Carolina has passed a bill requiring people to use the public bathroom or locker room that corresponds to their birth certificate gender and because Georgia has enacted legislation (yet to be signed by the governor) that would protect pastors from having to perform same-sex "marriages."
It is time for Christians and all people of conscience to say: "Enough is enough with your bullying. We are not going to bow down to your threats. We will do what is right, regardless of cost or consequence, and in the end, we will be vindicated for taking a stand."
As for Ed Lee, the mayor of San Francisco, he's acting more like a dictator than a mayor. Who gave him the right to tell city-funded employees where they could travel in their own country, once known as "the land of the free"?
Unfortunately, the pattern is all too familiar.
A state like Indiana passes a Religious Freedoms Act that mirrors national law, as a result of which gay bullies and their allies threaten to pull their businesses from the state—from Wal-Mart to Apple to Craig's List to the NCAA—and within days, the governor and the legislation cave, passing a new law that makes things worse than ever. (This happened in March, 2015; the Indianan legislators and governor have since pushed back to some degree.)
We cannot let this happen in our states (I have lived in North Carolina since 2003), and as believers nationwide, we must stand together and reject these pressure tactics and call them out for what they are: unethical, strong-armed bullying.
Never bow down to bullies!
Earlier this year, I helped draft an eight-page letter to the mayor and City Council of Charlotte, detailing the negative effects that their new "anti-LGBT discrimination" bill could have. (Ironically, a gay man who was instrumental in helping to push this bill through was a convicted, child sex-offender who has since resigned as president of Charlotte's LGBT Chamber of Commerce because of his past record.)
Among the negative effects of this bill outlined in my letter were:
  • The door would be opened wide to heterosexual predators who would use transgender bathroom rights to spy on girls and women (for chilling video evidence of what these heterosexual predators have done, see here).
  • The proposed changes could lead to widespread discrimination against Christians and other people of faith who, in good conscience, could not participate in same-sex "weddings" (such as photographers, bakers, florists and others). The law would now be decidedly against them.
I also noted that, "National studies indicate that states which do not have non-discrimination laws including 'sexual orientation' and 'gender identity' are suffering no ill effects economically," dispelling the myth that only "progressive" (that is, "pro-LGBT") cities are prospering. The evidence is clearly against this.
This is yet another reason to stand up to the bullies: Good business practices and hard work lead to prosperity, not being politically correct. (For the truth about the North Carolina bill, which the secular media is largely failing to report, see here, and note that in North Carolina, some of the companies protesting the loudest already have policies to protect LGBT "rights" and those policies are completely unaffected by the new law.)
In Georgia, the main focus was preserving religious freedoms, such as protecting pastors from having to perform same-sex "wedding" ceremonies. (Religious freedoms were certainly an issue in North Carolina, but the central focus here was on the bathroom bill.)
Yet as Ryan Anderson pointed out, the bill passed by the Georgia legislature was quite narrow in its protections, contained language that could be used against people of faith and was a significantly gutted version of a far from perfect original bill.
In other words, the current bill awaiting the governor's signature is quite tame, simply providing the barest of protections of our religious liberties, and it is still creating anuproar of protest, as "More than 30 of Hollywood's heaviest hitters sent a threatening letter to Gov. Nathan Deal, telling him in no uncertain terms that if he passes the religious-freedom bill the legislature handed him for consideration, they'll never work in Georgia again."
As I have warned for years (and repeated almost ad infinitum), the activists who came out of the closet want to put you and me in the closet, and they will not rest until that door is safely shut. It is time for us to say: That will never happen, and we will go to jail rather than compromise our convictions. Your bullying will backfire in the end.
When it comes to transgender issues, we are dealing with an unquantifiable, untestable condition which relies entirely on self-perception (and can switch by the day or the hour), as noted by Margaret A. Hagen, professor of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Boston University. Yet the mayor of Seattle recently used an executive order to allow biological males to use women's bathrooms.
What kind of social madness is this?
In the days to come, I plan to lay out some specific calls to action, including a strategy for Christian athletes in the NFL and NBA. But for now, it's time for us to get on our knees before God so we can stand tall before man, resolving in our hearts that, whatever it takes (in godly, not fleshly terms), we will do what is right. (For an excellent, strategic handbook, see here.)
For the moment, I encourage you to take a moment to send a note of appreciation toGov. Pat McCrory in North Carolina for not caving in (He will be under heavy pressure in the days ahead.) and a note strongly encouraging Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal to sign House Bill 757 into law. Will you stop and do that right now?
Billy Graham once said, "Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are often stiffened."
Let courage spread from you to others—in your home, your school, your place of business, your congregation—beginning today.
We will not bow down to the bullies!

Should Jesus Unite Mortal Enemies? - Tsvi Sadan ISRAEL TODAY

Should Jesus Unite Mortal Enemies?

Monday, February 15, 2016 |  Tsvi Sadan  ISRAEL TODAY
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is taking a toll on Messianic Jews and Arab Christians who, in principle, are supposed to follow Jesus' command to love one's enemy.
The tension between Messianic Jews and Evangelical Palestinians has grown ever deeper with the appearance of the Christ at the Checkpoint conferences that promote a brand of Replacement Theology in which "Palestine" replaces Israel.
Most Messianic Jews have boycotted these conferences for their blatant hate toward Israel, and for their aggressive theological efforts to delegitimize the existence of Israel as a Jewish state.
Some Messianic Jews, however, think that no matter what the circumstances, conflict between Messianic Jews and Evangelical Palestinians is intolerable and unacceptable.
In an effort to resolve this conflict, a group of Messianic Jews and Evangelical Palestinians, most of whom are organizers of and participants in the caustic Christ at the Checkpoint conferences, met last month in Larnaca, Cyprus.
press release published on the website of the very same people who organize, draft and propagate the "Palestine is Israel" agenda, outlines the way in which people who hold diametrically-opposed theological positions can still live up to Jesus' command to love your enemy.
The document proposes some practical steps aimed at expressing the unity that should exist between the two groups.
The document asserts that unity is possible on the basis of common ethical values: "...our unity in the Messiah must uphold ethical standards of life that are worthy of our calling." In order to live up to this standard the document calls for “a generous theological stance, which makes room for and respects the conscientious convictions of others that they sincerely derive from their reading of Scripture.”
In other words, those drafting this document believe that sincerity alone if enough to validate irreconcilable interpretations of the same sacred text. Sincerity and goodwill supersede truth.
The document goes on to state that "we recognize that we hold very different theological positions regarding the land," yet "deplore those ways of speaking and acting that are incompatible with obedience to our Lord."
Simply put, in this version of Christian righteousness, a Palestinian "brother" can maintain that "the establishment of the State of Israel as a catastrophe" and still be able to live in peace with Messianic Jews. Similarly, a Messianic Jew is expected to embrace those who are calling for his demise.
This conclusion is possible, but only if the Messianic Jews in question fail to see themselves as part of greater Israel, in which case they can tolerate the notion that Israel's rebirth was a catastrophe.
If, however, Messianic Jews do see themselves as an integral part of Israel, this document is yet further evidence of a disturbing phenomenon wherein Jews in increasing numbers are embracing the destructive narrative of their enemies. Only in this case they are doing so in the name of Jesus.

Netanyahu Calls US Jews to Unite in Support of Israel - CBNNews.com

Netanyahu Calls US Jews
to Unite in Support of Israel

JERUSALEM, Israel -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged the American Jewish community to unite in support of Israel.
Speaking at the Jewish Federations of North America General Assembly, Netanyahu reaffirmed U.S.-Israeli ties, saying "no matter what disagreements there are between Israel and the United States, Israel has no better friend than America and America has no better friend than Israel."
He called for Jewish unity in the face of his fierce opposition to the Iranian nuclear deal, which many felt drove a wedge between Jewish organizations and some of their leaders.
"No matter what disagreements there have been within the Jewish community, maintaining the unity of our people is of paramount importance," Netanyahu said. "There is only one Jewish people. There is only one Jewish state. And now, more than ever, we must work together to unite the Jewish people and secure the Jewish state."
Israel, he said, is the only nation in the region where the Christian population is growing and where gay rights are protected. It's a nation founded on egalitarianism.
"You see it in an Arab schoolboy who knows that – or school girl – they can grow up to be Knesset members or ambassadors or a Supreme Court justice," he said. "We have an Arab Supreme Court justice, in case you didn't know. And it's the only truly independent court in a very, very large radius."
Netanyahu said he's working to ensure that Orthodox, Conservative and Reform Jews can all feel at home in Israel.
"As prime minister of Israel, I will always ensure that all Jews can feel at home in Israel – Reform Jews, Conservative Jews, Orthodox Jews – all Jews," he said. "And now, for the first time, the government of Israel is joining with the Jewish Agency to invest in strengthening Reform and Conservative communities within Israel."
An "unshakeable bond" unites Jewish people, he said.
"It's a bond of hope – not the shallow hope of wishful thinking, but the deep wellspring of confidence that comes from a people who have forded history's most turbulent rivers and emerged triumphant on the other side in the Promised Land," Netanyahu said.

New "Israel Bible" Commentary Unites Jews and Christians in Common Cause - Biblical Israel

“I will gather you from the peoples and assemble you out of the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.” (Ezekiel 11:17)
By: Deborah Fineblum Schabb
With the publication of a new edition of the Hebrew Bible under his belt, Rabbi Naphtali (Tuly) Weisz is set to manifest his vision for honoring and nurturing evangelical Christian support for Jews and the Jewish homeland.
It wasn’t so long ago that Christians weren’t always viewed as a Jew’s best friend. But that’s not how things are playing out today, says Weisz, the former pulpit rabbi of Beth Jacob Congregation in Columbus, Ohio. Ordained by the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary at Yeshiva University, and also holding a law degree, Weisz made aliyah four years ago to a Jerusalem suburb where he now lives with his wife and their five children.
Before he ever dreamed of producing a Bible spotlighting the central role of Israel, Weisz founded Israel365: Your Daily Connection to the Land of Israel, a website that is jam-packed with information on Israel and deploys an email list distributing Israel-centric biblical quotes. These days, the Israel365 emails that land daily in the inboxes of some 200,000 Christians and Jews—70 percent and 30 percent, respectively—“serve as a constant reminder of the biblical commandment for Jews to make their home in the land of Israel,” Weisz, 35, says.
In recent years, the rabbi has added BreakingIsraelNews.com, a news website covering the latest happenings in Israel through a biblical lens. But fresh off its launch, Weisz sees “The Israel Bible” as the hub around which his other programming spokes revolve.
“It’s crucial to be able to see on every page of the Bible how central the land of Israel is to the holy book that both we and the Christians see as the word of God,” he tells JNS.org. Beginning with the classic 1917 Jewish Publication Society translation, the team of biblical experts added insights into each one of the multitude of biblical references to the land. The five-volume paperback set of the Bible (what the Christians call the Old Testament and the Jews call the Torah) costs $39.99 on the Israel365 website. The longer and complete Tanakh version—20 paperback volumes, including the Torah, the Prophets, Judges, Proverbs, Psalms, etc.—was recently completed and is now available on the site for $120.

“You can find all kinds of translations of the Bible out there—88 percent of Americans own at least one,” says Weisz. “But this is the first to draw our attention to the absolute centrality of the land of Israel and its eternal connection to the Jewish people.”
Staying faithful to the original wording of the text, he adds, packs a special message for those who, like religious people of both faiths, read the Bible literally as the word of God.
“The Israel Bible” is a publication whose time has come, says Rabbi Shlomo Riskin, the founding chief rabbi of the Israeli community of Efrat, who penned the foreword to the new Bible.
“In these very critical and tempestuous times it is especially important to understand the inexplicable connection between the nation of Israel and the land of Israel,” Riskin says. “And this is precisely what Rabbi Tuly Weisz has succeeded in doing in this timely translation of the Bible.”
Though it is designed for all, by far the greatest number of readers of “The Israel Bible” are expected to be evangelicals Christians.
“The Bible, the land, and the people of Israel are one, and this new Bible reminds us of this bond,” says Pastor Keith Johnson, founder of Biblical Foundations Academy International, upon visiting Israel from his Charlotte, N.C., home. “You can’t read the Bible, the word of God, without understanding the significance of Israel—past, present, and future. In 1948, the prophecy came to pass in our own time and no one can disconnect the people from their land ever again. Now that the God and people and land of Israel are back together, history is happening here.”
Jews and Christians share a biblical heritage, and the new Bible “shows even more clearly that this is the land God chose for the Jewish people,” adds Johnson.

Sondra Baras sees the value of the new edition from both the Jewish and Christian perspectives. An observant Jew, Baras heads the Israel office of Christian Friends of Israeli Communities, an initiative that helps Christians find travel and programming experiences in Israel.
“Many in the evangelical community are trying to understand what Israel is all about and how it connects with what they’re reading in their Bibles, so coming into contact with Jews in Israel brings the Bible to life for them,” she says. “They get what we’re doing here because their Bible is clear about why Jews belong in Israel.”
Weisz writes in the new Bible’s introduction, “Efforts to vilify the Jewish state seem to expand daily across the globe, as does the number of evangelicals who stand strong with the nation and the people of Israel as an expression of their commitment to God’s word.”
The rabbi has a prayer of his own to add: “May ‘The Israel Bible’ be a small contribution in bringing about the final redemption of Israel and the world.”
